On the Grid : Thai Curry Simple

"Thai Curry Simple is hands down our favorite lunch spot for something good and fast. Don't let the run-down exterior deter you, this place is busy for a reason. Get the Pad See Ew, it's amazing. If you order the daily curry, it will be ready in about 30 seconds." - Shore

Thai Recipe is a hidden gem in Seattle. The food is excellent — rich in flavor, well-balanced, and freshly made. Service is quick and efficient, making it a great option for both dine-in and takeout. Prices are very reasonable, offering great value for the quality you get. One of the best perks: free parking, which is a rare and welcome bonus in the city. Definitely worth a visit for anyone craving authentic Thai cuisine without the hassle.

My son and I enjoyed our picks off the menu. We look forward to returning and trying more.

Google
Fantastic food! Cute little spot. Service was good. Tom Yum with chicken medium spice was delicious. Lots of chicken! Truly enjoyed!

Friendly service. Take out can take 20-30 minutes. Very good Mango sticky rice. Good sized portions. Pad Thai tasted very sweet, like it had ketchup in it. Overall, decent Thai for being close by in the neighborhood.

I’m writing this review the following day and lets just say that two star spicy is more like 4 star! Amazing pad see ew that I’ll go back for again and again but next time: one star spicy!

Was very disappointed. I've been there many times and loved the food...but this last time ...it was not so good. Maybe new cooks!?? Everything was really dry! Will nit be going back ☹️

Google
Really delicious and reasonably priced. Tom Yum soup with shrimp was especially good (esp with a Singha beer). The shrimp were good and it had lots of mushrooms to complement the tasty/authentic broth

First off my friend always gets the red curry here and swears by it. He was talking to me on the phone a couple months back and says "Uhhhhhh yeah I just ordered red curry..." I was surprised because of the anger and frustration in his voice so I said "I thought you loved their red curry?" And he said "Yeah but I got a wife and kids so everytime I want red curry, I've gotta order food for the whole family. My red curry ends up costing like 80 bucks" But he still orders it He's also a good father I think I didn't get the red curry even though I'm pretty sure I'll try it next go around I get sloppy for that Panang curry at every thai restaurant I can't help it Bit of context I've been having like a very rough month and a half And my body and digestion ain't been great And my heart hurts a lot too Which... I mean Ends up with me ordering unhealthy food and perhaps drinking a little too much Which I know I know Is not helping at all and feeding the cycle Bear with me Hippocrates (is said to have) said: "Let food by thy medicine and medicine be thy food" And also sometimes I believe that When your body is demanding something Maybe you need it And my body had been thumping it's spear on the floor rhythmically shouting CURRY CURRY CURRY But because of tummy troubles I had been afraid Because spicy hadn't been making me feel good But finally the shouts from within had become too overwhelming so I gave in Got a Panang curry And a Thai iced coffee to be a baaaaaad Took it home and put the rice into a bowl Poured the contents out of a familiar plastic container First thing I noticed about the rice was the consistency I'm a white boy from the suburbs I'll make no claims to know what I'm talking about Just anecdotally it felt right for Thai food And I also liked When I poured the curry on How it wasn't watery and didn't immediately seep into the rice (The ride absorbing the curry is undoubtedly pleasant but it was nice that the process happened over time) So I had some lovely pools of curry on top of my rice as well as saturation I took a bite Recall how I said my heart felt hurt? I don't care if you believe me this is true: I felt warmth in my heart first Before my tummy I ordered two stars out of four Because like I said I'd been sensitive There was still a kick I got a little tiny smidgen runny nose (Always a good sign to me) But the flavor was full force it was there It didn't rely on spicy to be good it was just Flavorful, full, welcoming, embracing It was exactly what I needed On a biological level It made my tummy feel good too It felt healthy and hearty and tasty The Spartan with a spear inside my guts demanding curry Was satisfied but forget him I was satisfied very much It helped me get through that day in a big way More importantly very very tasty Very very good I think you should eat here too Next time gonna get that red curry

Yelp
Oof this is.... Not good. I've lived next to this resturant for about six months now and decided to finally try it. I went later at night, around 6 or 7 on a weekday. The inside is dated but clean, and while the atmosphere didn't exactly invoke quality, it always quaint. It felt like a longstanding family resturant that's slipped over the years, with some things like water stains and scratches and mars turning into a blind spot for the owners who've seen them for so long. The menus were old, but clean, and everything just had an air of "well used". We decided to order an order of potstickers, a wide noodle vegetable and chicken dish, and an order of Pad Thai. The potstickers came out first, very quickly, but unfortunately they were still frozen on the inside. I'm pretty sure they were the ones from Us Foods Chef Store down the street because... well I'm pretty sure I have the same ones in my freezer at home. We sent them back, and about ten minutes later our meals came out. Both dishes were large portions and modestly plated. My husband said the Pad Thai was okay which as someone who is deeply uncritical of food means that it was probably mediocre at best. My dish, the wide noodle dish I can't recall the name of, was very, very bad. The noodles were very overcooked and mostly formed a giant pile of goop, as overcooked rice noodles are prone to do. The sauce was okay, but nothing to write home about. The chicken was actually quite nice and very tender and juicy, not overcooked or stringy at all. This was the part I actually ate. The potstickers came out near the end of our meal, and this time they were cooked. Very cooked, having worked in kitchens with grumpy line cooks before, I might even say, vengefully cooked. The outsides of the potstickers were extremely dark and borderline burnt on the edges. Beyond the underwhelming food, the service was also subpar. I saw our waitress twice, once to take our drinks and once to give us the bill. Another person delivered our food, and we had to stare someone down to return the potstickers because it was evident that a check-in wasn't happening. So... yeah. This place isn't on my list to return to anytime soon. It wasn't a *horrible* experience that I would never ever go back to, but it wasn't something I want to repeat anytime soon either. With no shortage of restaurants in the area, I doubt I'll be coming back here - but never say never?

Yelp
Their pineapple curry is SO yummy! Can't get enough of it. Larb gai is also quite tasty.

Yelp
I got the green curry here for takeout and I was able to order in the restaurant and wait for it to carry out. It took probably 10 or so minutes so it was a quick turnaround. The green curry was a large portion and I added chicken to it. It had large chunks of potato as well as onion. It was very tasty and I asked for medium spice which was perfect! I'll definitely keep this restaurant in the rotation for tasty Thai food! Looking forward to trying the noodles next time.

Abhinav S.

Yelp
One of the best Thai fried rice that I've had so far. Go for max spice if you want, it's not really that spice. Place is pretty small, but did not see a whole bunch of people, probably because it's in a non peak area of Seattle.

Yelp
I remember coming here before the pandemic and the food was tasting better. I came back to try the lunch combo and was left feeling disappointed. The meal looked more appetizing than it actually was. The flavor was just lacking. The Pad Thai came out sort of mushy and I could taste a lot of ketchup in the sauce. The curry didn't taste like anything special. Maybe it was too diluted with coconut milk. They are open for dine-in but we were automatically charged 20% for tip. Not sure if that is an new policy but they didn't even notify us. Maybe I came on an off day but I'm hoping I will have a better experience next time since this is one of the only Thai restaurants on Rainier.

Yelp
Comparable to Thai food in Los Angeles. Service was friendly. We dined in...they add a 15% gratuity. They do a lot of take out. No pictures because we all started eating immediately. They rate the heat from 1 - 4 stars. We all chose 2. Perfectly spicy. Pad Thai with chicken, Thai Chicken, Fried rice with Crispy tofu, Larbi, Yello curry tofu...all wonderful. Enough for Leftovers. Definitely a good choice.

Yelp
Horrible service. I have eaten here several times and been very satisfied with my food but ordered late last night and got overcooked noodles, extremely oily peanut sauce. When I called to let them know the phone was given to three people one of whom said I would be refunded, or I could get a food credit. Then the owner came on the phone and said I would not get credit and would need to return the food. When I tried to explain that the food was from the night before and had been shared with other people she began to talk over me and was very rude. Not a thoughtful way to treat a loyal customer. I won't be back.

Yelp
I really want to give this place 0 stars but I can't. The service here is terrible. Do not come in if you can help it. Staff at the counter are not helpful. No one serves you even when there's no one in the restaurant. The restaurant hasn't been renovated since 1987. Don't expect small talk or someone to chat with you about your day. Don't expect to pay reasonable prices. Why 5 stars then? They nailed the flavor and serve delicious Thai food. I love the tofu and vegetarian dishes they have here. They ladna noodles are delicious. The tom yum soup will make your mouth sing with flavor. The food is so good and it's the only show in this part of town. I wish there were another Thai place nearby but I haven't found one yet and even if I did, I doubt they'll get the taste right. I'm willing to put up with crappy service and pay $20 a dish for this food. I'd say the compromise would be get the food to go like everyone else does!

Yelp
This has been our favorite Thai restaurant for years and it's still ur favorite! After a year or more we finally ran into out friend, Sam who owns this restaurant. Business is good since 70% of his business is take out anyway. People are still afraid to go in. But not us! Tonight is Easter so we ordered the crab delight appetizer. Then our regular Panang curry with vegetables & tofu. Also, Pad Thai with prawns and brown rice. So delicious! We'll be back! We always come back for great food!

Yelp
Our go to Thai spot. Panang. Phad Thai. Larb. Tom yum. Pad see ew. Chicken satay. Mango sticky rice. So many good things here.

zane b.

Yelp
A great neighborhood Thai place for takeout. Our go to order is Panang curry with tofu, pud see ew with chicken and phad prik khing with chicken
google avatar

Yelp
The crispy garlic chicken was a ground chicken meatball. The pad ke mao was fine but after seeing the chicken and tossing it, I really have to question this restaurant's judgement.

Yelp
My husband and I love Thai food. I'd like to give Thai Recipe an excellent rating. Their food is absolutely delicious and the appetizers are the bomb. I also love their staff. They are always very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!!

Pha C.

Yelp
I used to go to school nearby and would often come for the food. Food is really good to me but sometimes the staffs can be really rude. I only have a problem with the way they handle the gratuity tips that they never seem to inform you ahead about. It doesn't matter how big the party is, you're forced to tip them anyways, which is so weird to me. Because I have never heard of anything like that. I don't come here as much often anymore. Don't wanna be charged 25% tips on a $30 order.

Yelp
We were recommended this spot by a colleague so we thought we'd give it a try. We ordered the pad see ew, crispy chicken, and fried tofu appetizer. All the dishes were just OK. The pad see ew was a little too soy saucey for my liking - it wasn't a matter of too much salt but more so the soy sauce flavor came through a bit too much for me. The crispy chicken had good flavor but the chicken itself needed more of a crunch. Lastly, the fried tofu was just that...nothing crazy. I did notice the sauce they serve alongside the tofu was basically watered down sweet and sour sauce you could get from a bottle. I will highlight that the service was spot on! We were seated quickly and had our waters filled several times. At prime Friday night dinner time, the restaurant was pretty full with lots of people coming in and out to pick up their to go order. Overall, I think we'll stick to our favorites for Thai food. However, I'm glad I gave this restaurant a try

Yelp
this has been my families go-to thai restaurant since i was young. 1: appetizers Crab Delight: crunchy, savory, creamy filling, perfectly paired with sweet-and-sour sauce. Fried Tofu: pretty basic and i use my own mae ploy sweet chili sauce. 2: entrée Yellow Curry: so delicious!! i order chicken and level 1 spice, which is mild but not bland. large chunks of potato and onions are a good variety in textures. Crispy Chicken: crispy, almost sweet and deliciously fried. Yellow Curry Fried Rice: i LOVE the pineapples!! it doesn't taste like the yellow curry, but it's delicious in its own way with a mix of eggs, onions, pineapple, etc. Pad See Ew: soft noodles, egg, etc. classic! and the Thai Iced Tea, of course, is amazing.

Yelp
This place was great! My wife had the Pad Thai w/ Fried Prawns, and the prawns were cooked perfectly - crisp and not greasy - and served with a sweet and spicy chili sauce. The Pad Thai was wonderful as well. I had a beef Panang curry. The meat and bell peppers were good, but the star was the curry itself - soak it into some rice and it's little spicy bites of heaven. The only thing I wish was that I'd gotten my curry a bit hotter. Will definitely ask for that next visit. Portions were quite large for the price - both my wife and I got two full meals (if I just cook some more rice at home, no biggie).

Yelp
Really great Thai good, I've come here many times and am never disappointed. Both the noodle dishes and curry dishes are cooked well, with fresh ingredients. I wish the take out sizes for the curries were consistently the larger size. Sometimes I get a full height (~24oz) container and the other times I get a half height (~12oz) container. The larger size is the standard size take out container so it's been disappointing to get the small size on occasion, although the food is just as delicious.

Yelp
Really just the platonic ideal of pad kee mao

Sallie D.

Yelp
Great service and food. I recommend the cashew chicken, Pad see yew, and the chicken over spinach dish with peanut sauce. Yum!

Osceola C.

Yelp
Great food and service. I have been eating here for years and the food is consistent, fresh, and good

Yelp
We ordered lunch out for 7 people. Very fast prep, friend staff and they were safe. The meal consisted of various Pad Thai dishes, Special Noodle, Yellow Curry Fried Rice and Pad See Ewe.. extremely tasty and nice and spicy. Not at all boring.

Yelp
Visiting from CA and found this Thai place on Yelp. Called in our order since they were 30 minutes from closing time. The person who answered the phone was very abrupt and impatient about my unfamiliarity of their menu. I grew up with Thai friends around Thai food so I'm no rookie. Anyway, we arrived 15 minutes later and the food was ready. All good. Fast forward the next day. We are renting an AirB&B place nearby so it was convenient to order from them. They were 45 minutes from closing so I tried calling several times but no answer. I decided to walk down the hill to order in person. They were 35 minutes from closing at this time. From the get go, the person at the counter was not happy to take. Regardless, I politely ordered pad see ew; which is traditionally sweet, same dish i ordered the day before. She asked me how spicy? Knowing that this tends to be a sweet dish, I repeated my order. She rudely said "i know! Removing her mask and starts fanning her face repeatedly saying, how spicy...spicy... spicy? THESE RESTAURANT IS RUDE AND DOES NOT APPRECIATE BUSINESS THAT IS BEING GIVEN TO THEM. SHAME ON YOU!
google avatar

Cristina G.

Yelp
I love the food here. It is really affordably priced and it has big portions as well. Tastes amazingly fresh. Food tends to run a little on the spicy side. I left my phone in here once and they returned it and refused a tip for returning it. These people are really nice. Favorites include thai ice tea, pad see ewe and chicken/pork pad thai. I also love their vegetable soup they sometimes serve as an appetizer but isn't on the menu.
google avatar

Sharon H.

Yelp
We got take out from here and the Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Drunken Noodle were all PERFECT ! Noodles were cooked just right , moist, well flavored and dangerously addictive. Chicken and Tofu were both good. The Green Curry had a good amount of Eggplant which I love.

James A.

Yelp
Solid Thai food in the neighborhood. Staff is nice and the food is good. We usually get take out, but sometimes sit in the dining area and admire the elephant paintings.
google avatar

Carolyn P.

Yelp
I've noticed dichotomy in the Thai restaurant options of Seattle. Either you're paying way too much for small portions of ok-ish food, or you spend not-so-much on large portions that satisfy your need for Wednesday pad khee mao when it's dumping rain and you don't want to cook. For $12 an entree that overflows on your plate, sometimes I'll jump on board for 'value' and have leftovers for a week. Hey, every restaurant serves a function...
google avatar

Lizz S.

Yelp
Super good pad thai and although it wasn't on the menu, they accommodated a vegan version for my boyfriend
google avatar

Krista Rene N.

Yelp
Love this little spot, we've stopped here on our way to Seward Park a few times. The curries are great, the pad see ew is delicious, and so is the pad Thai. My favorite dish is the "Special Noodles" which is a peanut sauce and wide noodle dish. I also really appreciate they actually add spice to the food when you ask for it. The service is also really great!
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
I love the food, great flavor! Spice level 4 wasn't that spicy and I would know because I cannot handle spiciness lol, nonetheless it was still great! They also have extra spice you can add to your dish, so if you love spicy then that's an option! The service was nice and quick, and it's a nice intimate place to go on a date or go with friends. I ordered the pad thai and it was bomb. The portions are pretty large so you will probably be able to bring leftovers. I also tried some of the pad see ew and it was also really good! I recommend both dishes for sure! I definitely want to go back and try some of their other dishes. When leaving, they also give you complimentary mints so that's cool. The bathroom aesthetic is nice too lol.

Yelp
BUGS!!!! Ordered take out and after the kids finished their food we were eating pies, only to find this nasty bug in there!!! So grossed out. We eat here ALL THE TIME but never again after tonight. We try not to let the poor service ever bother us, but this is disgusting. Literally sick to my stomach. We ordered beef PadSeeEw, chicken PadThai, chicken fried rice, brown rice and seafood Thai basil to go tonight, 11/23/20. The more reviews I read the more I realize this is a dirty and disgusting place. Do yourselves a favor and pay the same price for even better food elsewhere.

Yelp
my absolute favorite thai restaurant in the seattle area. great prices on lunch specials with full-flavored dishes. i've tried many items off this menu from fried rice to their curry, pad thai & pad see euw!! they never fail to fulfill my thai craving!! & personally i believe they have the best pad thai in the city. i've come here multiple times over the summer but i'm just now updating my review. thank you to the owners & cooks who have never let me down :)

Yelp
I think if it wasn't for my cousin that goes her often, I would've just kept driving pass it. This place is really good. It's tucked on the side of the street in a small parking lot where the auto store is. This place is my cousin's go to spots for dinns to feed her family. It's located in the CD/Mt.Baker/Rainier Valley are. The food is bomb and consistent. Tonight we ordered the Showering Rama tofu, Shrimp Pad Thai, and the tofu Panang Curry. I appreciated the peanut sauce separate from the dish to prevent the spinach from wilting. The peanut sauce is bomb, rub it all over yo body status! One thing I was hoping for was mixed veggies with it. I wish it wasn't an option, it should be just included in the dish. If the Pad Thai is bomb, you know the rest of the food is. The crispy basil chicken is bomb too here that I get with my cousin as well as the spring rolls. I will keep this on my rotation too. This is a must!
google avatar

Charlotte W.

Yelp
I Went and got lunch here for the first time after reading all the reviews and I was very impressed with the green curry and brown rice! I also had there pad thai, which was very good. So much flavor and very nice customer service. If your ever in the area and want some good food, they got you covered!

Yelp
My favorite Thai in Seattle right now, and I've been a customer since 2017. I've only ever had takeout, so I don't mind that their interior space is limited and somewhat oddly decorated. The portions are big, the prices are cheap, and the quality is high. I've liked everything I've had over the years. Phad kee mao, yellow curry rice, red curry, phad thai; app are great. The latter is especially better than the rest of the field, a huge portion of thin rice noodles that are more tangy than you find elsewhere. They take special orders in stride (no veggies, no fish sauce, etc.) and never get your order wrong. There's a reason they're my go to.
google avatar

Malalay S.

Yelp
We just moved to Seattle from SF and Thai Recipe makes the best Thai food, it HAS THE BEST GREEN CURRY we have ever tasted. Absolutely amazing Tom Yum!! Perfect for the drizzly days of Seattle. A big fan of their Pad Kee Mao as well. They're customers service is fast and never messes up our order. !!!! 5 stars !!!!

Cherry L.

Yelp
It's definitely gone downhill in the past year... as the prices have gone up, the quality has also gone down. I usually order the tofu pad thai 3 stars, and I think about a year ago it was really good but tonight it was mushy, flavorless, and not good at all. It will probably be my last time here.
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the cute ambiance, which you can't tell from the outdoors. It is one of my favorite thai restaurants in the neighborhood. We tried the basics- pad see ew and a curry and i thought they were great. My one complaint is that service is a little slow, but I am happy to try again to see if that was a one time thing.
google avatar

Kristin T.

Yelp
Good thai food in a nice convenient location.I had the pad see ew with 2 star spice, which was very very good. If I had to nit-pick I would have appreciated a more of the veggies, because mine only came with maybe 4 pieces of broccoli. My boyfriend had the Emerald Garlic chicken which he enjoyed, and thought was a nice change of pace because we haven't seen this offered before at a thai restaurant. Although he enjoyed it, I am a bit skeptical about the chinese-inspired dishes and I'd prefer to stick to the traditional thai options because that is definitely their specialty. The service was standard for a small, relatively busy spot. She came around to check on us every once in a while and promptly brought our food when it was ready. No complains here. Prices were standard and very fair for the large portion size. I would definitely recommend and return!

Paige R.

Yelp
I have been ordering for a bit and think the food is fantastic. Pad Thai is a little different but everything is amazing, great salad rolls and apps! Would recommend to friends, and i have!
google avatar

Danielle W.

Yelp
I love Thai Recipe! They are super fast with take out orders - just call in and they will hook you up quickly. Faves are the red or green curry, pad see ew and pad Thai. This is not sticky or dry pad Thai - and not too sweet. Big portions and 3 stars definitely gives a good kick. Support this business during this stay at home order, especially if you're tired of your own cooking!

Yelp
This place is kinda tucked behind O'Reilly's in the corner. Average price for Thai food. The server is pretty funny and was cracking jokes with us when we were ordering. Nice vibes. We got our usual order - pad kee mao, a curry (opted for Panang), and crab wontons as appetizers. The portion size was HUGE. They are superrr generous on the pad kee mao. I had plenty left over for lunch the next day. The food came out pretty quick. They accidentally gave us pad see yew instead of pad kee mao but that was quickly switched. We got 2 stars (out of 4) on both and it was a little too spicy for me but still bearable. Crab wontons were nice and meaty. Pad kee mao's texture is a little different than what I've had. The noodles were cut much smaller, making the whole dish a little mooshier (because of all the sauce absorption). The color was quite dark so I was afraid it would be very saucy and salty, but it had a nice flavor. The curry had nice flavors and was pretty standard. We also got Thai iced tea and it was perfect. I would definitely come back! Lots of dishes to try that's different from your standard Thai restaurant, too. Nice service. I'd be happy to give them my business!

Yelp
I was so disappointed with my first takeout from Thai Recipe this week! I called and placed the order and it was ready to pick up on time, which was great. We had the pad Thai, pad see ew, Tom yum soup, and the Thai basil. The pad Thai was good, but way too spicy for 2 stars. The pad see ew came with a note on top that said "no soy" which was a surprise because I didn't ask for that and the dish's sauce is soy-based. So, it was t that good and was also very greasy. The soup had good flavor but had lots of inedible accompaniments like large pieces of ginger and lemongrass. The most surprising was that the Thai basil dish didn't come with rice. We called as we thought this was a mistake but we're told that they only give rice with the lunch orders. It all seemed so strange and the food we did get was average at best.
google avatar

Jenny C.

Yelp
This place is best for takeout rather than a dine in experience. When were were there there was a crazy lady who was loudly talking to herself and trying to talk to another table of people she didn't know. The yellow was average and a bit too thin for my liking. Essentially it was kinda watered down. The pineapple curry fried rice was our favorite of the 3 entrees. It had a good curry flavor to it. The pad kee mao tasted off to me. It wasn't the classic flavor I was looking for. The noodles were soggy and had too much sauce to them. I don't think we'll be back. My search for the best Thai food in Seattle continues.
google avatar

Lillian S.

Yelp
I came back and the service was much much better. The food was still excellent and overall I had a better experience.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for Tom Ka soup & Curry Fried rice! Their lunch specials are a amazing deal for the amount of grub you get. Beware they get busy so prepared to call a couple times for to-go orders. This place is a neighborhood gem! #nomnom

KathleenB B.

Yelp
This is a great neighborhood Thai place. My favorite in the area. The food is consistently great. The people are always friendly. We've eaten in. We've done take out. All delicious and done perfectly. Try it out!
google avatar

Hoang V.

Yelp
I don't usually write reviews, but FYI beware when you order here because I was overcharged! I ordered a CK pad thai, beef panang curry, and a rice which didn't come w/ the curry :l. She ended up charging me $30 while they are 11.5 +12.5+1.75 = $25.75 before tax. I asked her and she told me as if I was wrong! BTW, I thought it's just ~ $2, so I didn't want to argue more as she had charged me already. For food, the curry is overwhelmed with coconut cream. Ck pad thai contains mainly noodles and the ck is tough and dry. Won't go back! There are better options around.

Yelp
We love Thai Recipe - our go to favorites are Pad Thai, Thai Fried Rice, and Yellow Curry. They're doing great following COVID protocol and are always on time with food.
