Thaijindesu (loosely translated from Japanese as 'Thai Tenderness') is a strong Asian kitchen mixing both Thai standards and Japanese sushi for your epicurean delight. Housed on a corner of William Styron Square in Newport News, it adds international flare to this attractive neighborhood.
We ordered takeout which always limits upside potential, as everything is past its prime after packaging, travel and reveal. Here, the package was tight, leading to excessive condensation of the dishes. They really need to reimagine how to preserve the essentials of their work. Aside from that and discounting for the takeout variable, we really enjoyed the meal at home.
Best was the Drunken Noodles w Chicken (5 Spicy). The noods were broad, the brown sauce rich and hot and the chicken tender. Made me sweat just enough to need an extra napkin. The Pad Thai w Shrimp was very good at level 3 spice. Thinner pasta with 6 fat shrimp, peanuts and tasty profile. The Masaman Curry was less a winner. We knew it would be soup-like, but it was light on shrimp and veggies, although the flavor was about right with the coconut milk base shining through.
Obviously, it would have been better to eat with the food right out of the kitchen, but we had our reasons for not doing so. Service was fine from the mama-san although we needed to think about the appropriateness of adding a tip to the transaction. With inflation already taking a bite to the expense, throwing another 10-20% on top caused us to pause, as the meal already ran to $100.
Food for thought.
