This is the oldest theater in Wilmington built in the 1800s. They have weekly shows which are very affordable and lots that are family friendly. Its located in downtown Wilmington so theres plenty of parking and places to eat before or after a show. Prices for a family of 3 was around $40/pp and they have snacks and wine, beer, sodas for sale. You feel like you're stepping back in time in this beautiful theater.

A grand old theatre! I recently sat rear orchestra under the mezzanine overhang which, in other theaters, is the worst place for sound. Not here, and I don't have the best hearing. The seats were also comfortable for someone like me who has a bad back, aggravated by sitting long periods of time.

We had so much fun watching the dog comedy and talent show! I was called onstage to help juggle and it was fun! I couldn't see the small hacky sack due to the stage lighting but did great juggling the full size bean bag!

Absolutely amazing venue to see shows!! The architecture is gorgeous. The seats are comfy and roomy. Everyone who works and volunteers there are super friendly and helpful. We went for the first time to a concert cinema of short films by George Mèliés. It was fantastic. I can't wait to go to as many shows and plays as possible now! They also have the original hand painted show curtain, oldest known in the country, on display in the lobby. Super cool!

Wonderful little old theater! I can not recommend this theater enough. I saw Mary Poppins and the production and acting were fantastic.

Went to a showing of The Boy in the Woods as part of the Jewish Film Festival. Good seats...so much more leg room now compared to years ago. Concessions not overly priced which was nice. Coke and popcorn 8$. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the renovation of the old city council meeting area. I'm sure it will be spectacular.

Google
Wonderful old theater that is very reminiscent of european design and unusually roomy, comfortable seating. Small lobby with small consession stand. Only serves soft drinks, popcorn and a few candies and, limited premixed ( pod ) alcohol beverages and a few wines.

Beautiful theater. I had the pleasure of an attending a film festival. They have the usual concessions of yummy popcorn, sodas and candy. As well as some alcoholic bevvies.

Yelp
Very much enjoyed seeing "9 to 5" recently at Thalian Hall. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the experience could not have been easier. Ordered tickets for the show online and opted to pick them up at the box office (you also have the option to get digital tickets or print-at-home versions). The physical tickets were lovely and will make a special keepsake from the show. The theater, which shares a building with City Hall, is laced in historic charm. There is so much beautiful architectural detail, especially within the actual theater and around the stage. You can tell that the space is well loved and cared for. The production was one of the better regional/local productions that I've seen recently with everyone involved putting on a beautiful show from start to finish. There are concessions available and you're allowed to take drinks (and maybe food, too?) into the theater itself. Really nice to be able to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the performance. Parking was super easy on Sunday, as there was plenty of free street parking around the theater. There are also a few parking lots nearby which can be utilized. The team working in the front of house were all so warm and welcoming. Just a lovely little experience from start to finish.

Yelp
Thalian Hall shares a building with City Hall. The historic building was built in 1858 and on the National Register of Historic Places. The outside of the building has been updated but the theatre retains its historic charm with the architectural details. I've only attended shows in the larger theatre and the views of the stage have been great as has the sound. I saw Little Shop of Horrors on my last visit to Thalian Hall. It was a fun show with great sets and a talented cast. The theatre is close to many restaurants if you want to dine before or after a performance.

Yelp
Had tickets for David Brighton's Space Oddity last week , with great seats. I had forgotten about how intimate this theater is. Love the history behind it and the ambiance. It was fun to read the history plaques on the walls and check out the art work while we waited for the doors to open. Inside the theater is ornate , but not gaudy , with a huge chandelier named Alice that rises to the ceiling when the shop is about to start. It's a lovely theater to see a show or hear a concert .

Yelp
Friends and I went to Thalian Hall Center to see a movie. It was my first time there. Beautiful stage with an ornate 'trim'. Lots of gold and red colors. We sat on the upper balcony and had good views of the screen. I hope to see some live performances there.

Yelp
When in town, do what the locals do..I went to see an amazing theater production, "What the River Knows", in this beautiful theater. The attendants and ushers were an added treat to my evening of culture and history. The theater is intimate and beautiful! Unfortunately the "dropping" chandelier was not provided for this production. I was looking forward to seeing that feature. Definitely will return!

Yelp
I have such a love for this place, I couldn't even put it into words if I tried. Thalian Hall has truly allowed me to experience the best part of myself and has helped create long lasting friendships and memories. Though it may be just a stage, I call it home. 5/5

Yelp
I just saw the play "Love, Marilyn" by Erin Sullivan! Ms. Sullivan not only wrote the script, but she also was the actress in the production on April 2, 2022. I go theater productions often and have seen most of the musicals and plays on Broadway because I go to NYC every year so I have a lot to compare this to. This play was FABULOUS! I grew up being a fan of Marilyn Monroe. Ms. Sullivan gets to the heart of who she was on the inside by subtly showing her insecurities and with songs that spoke way more than words. I loved the set and music. Ms. Sullivan's expressions, poses and mannerisms were spot on to depict Marilyn. I highly recommend seeing this play during it's short run in Wilmington. Well done, Ms. Sullivan!

Yelp
Thailan Hall is a masterpiece. It a very historic, beautiful staple of Wilmington history. I have seen many different shows here ranging from pianists to laser shows to magicians. Every seat in the house is a great seat. They have a beautiful theater and ability to have refreshments and different levels for viewing. You can even feel a bit of haunted history there. The volunteers who work there are so sweet and they have a wide variety of shows. The only thing I would improve upon is parking. Sometimes it is hard to find a place and in the rain it can be a buzzkill. I recommend anyone to try this place to see a true historic theater.

Yelp
This was our 3rd show at Thalian. Each time we go we promise ourselves that we are going to go more often. This evening was no exception. It was the opening night of Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We arrived with only a few minutes before curtain so we didn't get any wine, but we have in the past and selection is always decent with very fair prices. Since it was opening night the crowd was really into the performance and the cast and orchestra didn't disappoint. The singing was great and everybody had a great time. We sat front row balcony, row AA. If you can get seats there you'll have a spectacular view. Like I said above, we fully intend on going back more often!

Yelp
Last night I saw my second show at Thalian Hall, 'With Love, Marilyn.' The show itself was amazing and the venue is equally spectacular. My recommendation before going would be to get a seat that is unobstructed. There are a few that sit behind columns that support the balcony seating area. Our view was perfect and coumd hear everything.

Yelp
This place is a great, local theatre. Very old and beautiful and in great condition. From the outside of the building, you'd never guess how exquisite the furnishings in the theatre would be. Mondays through Wednesdays they show indie films instead of plays. You can grab a beer, wine or soda in the concession stand and happily enjoy the film. No watching 5 million trailers before the film starts either. They start the film immediately when it says they will. I will definitely be returning for more films and hopefully a few plays!

Yelp
Our daughter was asked to play for one of their many performances throughout the year (professional flutist) so a great excuse to head down to Wilmington. This was our first time at Thalian. This beautiful little theatre has been open for quite some time offering a variety of performances. It is one of the oldest theatres still in operation in the U.S. While it can't accommodate the biggest acts that come to town it can support regional and small nat'l touring theatre, smaller ballet troupes, musicians, etc., and pack the house! It has an intimacy that the larger venues can't match while still offering the same feel that only live theatre offers. We were completely amazed by the talent we saw from the acting, the magnificent voices and spot on dancing! The creativity of the set designers and choreography tied it all together beautifully. Of course the orchaestra was great too! especially the flutist..:) If you get a chance, head down to Wilmington and take in a show...any show at Thalian..but be sure to reserve your tickets, since they do sell out most shows! The prices are lower, for this high quality, than what we might pay in our area (Cary/Raleigh) and you get a bonus...after the show you can head to one of the many great eateries along the water just a moment drive away and enjoy the view!

Yelp
We've been to Thalian Hall several times for theatre productions (hit and miss), but being fairly new to the area this was our first time spending New Year's Eve there, and I have to say they did a superb job. Everything was so well done, from the nicely spaced tables throughout for dining, to the production itself (Mamma Mia) and later even karaoke and a DJ in separate rooms. We have seen Mamma Mia on Broadway and while this production was no where near as professional as that one, in all fairness, neither were the ticket prices! We had a lovely time and would recommend this venue to anyone who appreciates historic and beautiful architecture and wants a fun night out without spending a small fortune.

Yelp
What a beautiful piece of history! This theatre has been preserved in all its glory. They feature plays, musicals, and Cinemetique, which features movies. You can purchase a generously poured glass of wine for $6.00 or a beer or soda if that is your preference. They have snacks as well. We are fortunate to have this gorgeous masterpiece in our town!

Yelp
I've been here several times and have seen some good shows. My only problem is being a tall person, there is no leg room in front of the seats. I know they have to get as many seats in as possible as this is a small theater but my legs were so cramped it keeps me from going as often as I would.

Yelp
Having been an actor in Thalian Hall as a young person, 40 years ago, it is quite amazing to see it today. The renovations and updates of the Theatre itself have brought it from near ruins and 19th Century tech to the 21st Century, without losing any of its' Neo-Classical style. Any visitor to Wilmington should attend a Show, Play, Concert or Film here, and take the time to view the exhibits and artifacts around the lobby and concession area. It truly is one of the great remaining 19th Century Theatres in America, with a fascinating history. A thousand thanks to Tony Rivenbark for his unceasing efforts crossing five decades to restore Thalian Hall, and to support the Arts here in Wilmington.

Yelp
I absolutely love Thalian and all it provides the community as well as being supportive to the community theater performers with TACT. In addition and not least is the history you feel when you walk into the theater. Always a beautiful experience and joy to have this wonderful place to come to throughout the year.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places in Wilmington. You know you're in the middle of history when you enter the building. I've see some great shows and movies there and try to go as often as I can. Yesterday, I went to the annual Thunder Roll show. Only, theatre left in the USA that still has one. The original theatre cloth has been restored and is hanging in the rear ante room of the theatre. Always, a good night when I can get to Thalian.

Yelp
Thalian Hall is a beautiful venue to see a movie, play, musical or any other production! It is an important piece of history to Wilmington and has been restored in such a grand way. The architecture inside is quite detailed and adds so much to your experience while there. Haven't seen many old theaters that have a third balcony as well. The people that work there are justifiably proud of the Hall and are very nice and concise in explaining all the details that make it so special. Don't forget to take a look at the original drop curtain that they have on display in the lobby, at 158 years old they say it could be the oldest painted stage curtain in the entire U.S.!

Yelp
Honestly, the theatre is gorgeous! We wanted to get tickets to Legally Blonde Jr., but two 15.00 tickets suddenly becomes almost 50.00 tickets because of all their add on fees! You make it very hard for the single moms in this town to take their kids to the theatre! Come on Thalian!!! Can't you get those extra funds from all your fundraising and parties???
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
This is a beautiful theatre inside. I've only been for the Cinematique film series - they show independent and foreign films Mon through Wed nights most weeks. Sometimes the picture and sound are a bit off but it's still a good experience and something nice to do downtown besides drink.

Yelp
This is such a beautiful theater with great acoustics and ambiance. Make sure to take the time to walk around and look at the historical artifacts on display. Fun Fact: This is the sister of Fords Theater. The staff is ALWAYS friendly and the seats are comfortable. A WIN all around.

Yelp
Love this theatre! The architecture and history of the building are fascinating. Last night @cinematique, Thalian Hall was showing "Miles Above". Don Cheadle plays Miles Davis. He was very good! Thalian serves wine and beer in the evening along with popcorn and candy. You can take your food and bev into the theatre unlike CFCC fine arts center. If you're in the smaller theatre be sure to get there 15-20 minutes early if you want to pick your seat. If you arrive on time your seat will pick you.

Yelp
Excellent performance of Red tonight. I will definitely return for other performances.

Jason V.

Yelp
Do NOT get tickets on the top balcony. I am not exaggerating when I say that you will not be able to see the stage from almost any seat up top. At the very best top seats, you'll be able to see like 25% of stage. The giant solid wood banister blocks everything. We went for a comedy show, and couldn't even see the comedians. Absolutely disappointed and wasted money. They should be ashamed to sell those seats to anyone.

Yelp
Great old theater. Performances are as good as Broadway. A must see if in the Wilmington area
