I tried out Thanh Son Tofu with my girlfriend today and the desserts were excellent. We got Che Thung (8/10), Che Dau Hu (7/10), Che Ba Ba (10/10), and Bahn Cam 10/10. All the desserts we ordered were VERY savory and had a perfect level of sweetness.
Experience: I would love to give this store a 5 star, but ran into some complications with the ordering. Note: The restaurant is very fast-paced, and the employees clearly try their best to serve the large crowd of customers efficiently. My girlfriend and I are not fluent in Vietnamese, so it was a little difficult for us to pronounce the names of the desserts. We tried our best and even pointed to the items on the menu to help.
The employee repeated our order back to us, and it sounded correct at the time, so we went to the counter to pay. However, we noticed that two of the items (Bánh Cam and Chè Đậu Hũ) were incorrect. We notified the cashier, and they said the employee who took our order would prepare it again. Even though we only wanted to replace the wrong items, it seemed like the employee was redoing the entire order.
Since there had been some miscommunication the first time, we took a picture of the item names and showed it to the employee. She corrected one of the items (Bánh Cam) but got the other one wrong again, and we received Chè Thưng instead. While she was roughly putting our food into a container, she told us in an annoyed tone that the item was correct. Honestly, since we are unfamiliar with the cuisine, we thought maybe we were mistaken.
We paid for our order and left the store, but just to be sure, we checked the items against the online menu. We realized that the Chè Đậu Hũ we received did not match the ingredients listed. We went back to ask the cashier, and he confirmed that it was not the correct item. However, due to the store’s policy of not accepting returns once food leaves the store (since COVID), we had to order the Chè Đậu Hũ again.
The cashier was polite and explained what the correct item looked like. He also told us to point at the item next time to avoid confusion. While I know he meant well, it left a sour taste in our mouths because we had already pointed at the items and even showed pictures during the second order, yet we still received the wrong one.
I understand the store was busy, but the employee could have treated us with a bit more patience and without the attitude.
