Quick and friendly service. Had the Banh Xeo Crepe with pho and Bun Bo, I came after a long flight and the food did not disappoint. The place is small but give an authentic small family vibe. Highly recommend.

The vegan egg rolls was amazing prob the best I’ve ever had. The beef pho could have used alil but more flavoring but was really good once dressed up.

Scrumptious food. We ordered the hot tea. It tastes like one if the generic brands so stay away from that. Also the veggie spring rolls were super delicious. I ordered the vegetable and tofu egg noodle soup and it was better than expected. Highly recommend to anyone feeling under the weather. Hubby ordered the garlic butter noodles with added bbq beef. He said it was super yummy. Meat was nice and tender and noodles were really garlicky and buttery but not overpowering with garlic flavor. Could actually use more garlic. Will be back to try different dishes next time.

Great experience! Would definitely recommend. Prices are affordable for the big portion sizes. Meats had a great taste and texture. Vegetables taste fresh. Sauces have the right amount of spice. Our server was excellent. Dishes arrived quickly after we ordered. The place isn't fancy but was very cozy and clean.

Thanh Tam is one of my favorite spots in the city - a no frills place with simple decor, quick service, and great comfort food, nestled among much higher flying places on a bustling Valencia street. The lemongrass tofu is one of the best tofu dishes I’ve had, with a great tofu texture and highly flavorful lemongrass-based sauce The hot and spicy vegan noodle soup is among the best vegetarian phos I’ve had, with tons of depth to the broth, a solid mix of veggies, two types of tofu (including the rare tofu skin preparation), and tons of noodles (I modify the noodles to egg noodles to get what I think a better, less slippery texture). Top everything off with Harry’s quick, attentive, and familiar service, and Thanh Tam will always be one of our favorite go-to spots

Crispy rolls were awesome and the pho was incredible flavorful, with lots of spice notes and beefy flavors. The bun bo hue was surprisingly less exciting but still good nonetheless.

We stumbled upon this place while walking by the mission and it is delicious! It’s a quaint little spot and the service was very fast! We got the vietnamese crepe, banh mi, and chicken vermicelli noodles. I loved the noodles. I would come back!

Came here with no line on a Tuesday dinner. Good: - Pho bowl came out so quickly! We ordered and five minutes later it was ready to go - I liked the chicken pho here a ton it was different than I expected and had a lot of flavor - Good portion sizes and prices, really good value Bad: - Service was minimal and the place was small Overall I enjoyed coming! Would come again

My vegan lemongrass tofu with rice was delicious. It was very flavorful and a large portion (almost 2 meals for me). We grabbed food from here and walked to Dolores Park. It was a blast! Highly recommend this humble spot.

I came in with two friends after spending the morning at Dolores nearby! We were given a seat quickly after walking in. At first glance, it seems like a typical no-frills restaurant. The prices are pretty reasonable, although it seems like they were raised recently (the online menu prices even from a few months ago are a dollar or two less). I had a Pork Banh Mi, and my friends both got a rice plate with grilled chicken and spring rolls. My banh mi had decent amount of pork and red onion with a small mix of cucumber, jalapeño, shredded carrot, and cilantro. Overall a a good value and a convenient location for a quick meal.

Overall, my time at Thanh Tam II was alright. I got the hot & spicy beef soup, it was pretty solid. Not that spicy though! I definitely had to add a lot of sriracha to notice the heat. Overall, the soup wasn't very flavorful even with the accoutrements. My friend got the grilled beef and shrimp noodle dish and enjoyed it. Inside, we got seated immediately, although it was a bit busy at 7pm on a Tuesday. Our server was friendly and helpful. My biggest complaint is that throughout the meal one of the employees was sorting/drying dishes in the middle of the eating area and it was really loud and distracting. I actually laughed a couple times because I thought it was some weird "bit." Additionally, in the middle of our meal, the rolled out the compost bin through the center of the restaurant and it was so filled with food scraps that the lid was propped open and I could smell it. The deeper I get into this review the more I wonder why I didn't rate it two stars, but I think the saving grace here is the "hole-in-the-wall" charm and no-BS vibe overall.

Overall, pretty solid Viet food in the heart of the Mission. My friend and I both ordered the beef pho, which was solid. While the spot on the outside looks a bit hole in the wall, the prices are definitely not...$18 for pho is crazy but I guess that's the going rate these days. Service was friendly and prompt. I've walked by this place a million times and never really gave it a second glance but I was pleasantly surprised. I may or may not be back since $18 for pho hurts my soul

I LOVE Vietnamese food, and had been really excited to try Thanh Tam II but was pretty disappointed by the experience. We ordered pho and the friend pompano to share; the pho was not super flavorful, meat was chewy, and noodles overcooked. The pompano was actually just raw in the middle and still cold (I assume it's frozen before), so we pointed it out to the server and he took it back in. When he brought it out again, I thought it was a new fish, but turns out they just refried it and flipped it over to make it look like it was different. Honestly I wasn't too mad cause it was kinda funny, but the fish itself didn't have much meat and was overcooked after the second fry.

Huge, delicious portions, fast service and no frills interior got this spot added to our faves. We ordered the banh xeo to share and it honestly got us 2/3rd full before our main entree came. The pancake was half a foot long and came with a lot of fresh veggies, so good! Next, we got lemon grass pork vermicelli bowl & combination pho noodle soup. Only finished one of the two and took the second home. For $60 with tax and tip , taking an untouched entree back home, this is great value. Will be coming back to try the other items!

This is my go to spot in my neighborhood when I need some Vietnamese food. This place is pretty tiny so I wouldn't say it's good for groups. Service is very fast here and it can get busy during lunch hour. Something I notice is they don't tend to be very guest oriented. I've never experienced this, but I've seen them move parties of 2 sitting at a 4 top, to a smaller table after they're already seated to make room for bigger parties at a 4 top. I also observed them asking a single person to move 2 times to make room for bigger parties. My guess is they don't want a wait to start. Although this wasn't my experience, seeing them do this was concerning for me because I know I wouldn't be okay with being asked to move so many times.

Service was pleasant here, friendly and timely. Walking into the shop you know it's definitely not a frills restaurant, you aren't paying for the decor and internals so the taste better be good. And it damn well is! Ordered the egg rolls. They were a good size, honestly kinda full off eating one to start. The pho was massive and filled the rest of me up. Could no way finish the broth. I opted for a chicken broth base to make it a bit lighter and the taste was very homely. Nothing to be wowed about but a solid hearty meal. Will be back because their egg and meat on rice looked frickin amazin

The bbq is something I will absolutely come back for. We ordered the pork and shrimp bbq dish and I wish we ordered another. The meat was so tender and flavorful! Only con was that they only gave us 3 shrimp:/ The steak and flank noodle was so tasty and satisfying on a windy evening and the flavor was incredible. High on my favorite pho places in the city. The place looks tiny from the outside but is actually quite spacious and we were sat immediately on a weekday at 7:30pm. Service was fast and very accommodating:)

Ordered the hot and spicy vegan bowl and it was great. Perfect for a rainy SF day. It was not as spicy as I'd hoped - actually it was not spicy at all but the chili oil sauce solved that problem. The portion size was really big! It was fairly busy for a Friday afternoon but not over crowded. The service was quick.

Ordered take out from here. Pick up was simple, service was quick. They have a lot of tables for dine in but most people were there for takeout. Ambiance is more old school than the other spots around. I ordered the grilled beef and shrimp vermicelli noodle. Meat was flavorful leaning towards sweet but the beef was tougher than I expected. The ratio of noodles to everything else was off. Lots of noodles compared to the vegetables and meat portions.

This is the Best hidden gem in San Francisco. The best Vietnamese food EVER... simply AMAZING!

I wanna just say I only order the Canh Chua here so my review is solely based on that lol. I ordered it to go and for pick up and it was some of the best I've ever had. They give you a hearty serving with all the right vegetables and if I had some rice it could've lasted me 2 days. There's a good amount of catfish in there also, which tasted perfect to me. I was craving a home cooked meal and this is the closest thing I've had in SF. Everyone in the kitchen is also very Vietnamese which was nostalgic and comforting to hear in the city!!

My friend and I were looking for a place to eat nearby and happened to stumble upon Thanh Tam II which looked like a little hole in the wall from the outside so we knew it had to be good. We were seated super quickly and the staff was very friendly. We started off by splitting some egg rolls as an appetizer and it was hands down the best egg roll I've ever had. It was so crispy and bursting with flavor. I also ordered the grilled beef and shrimp over rice and it exceeded my expectations. The beef was so tender and flavorful I didn't want my meal to end. I would definitely come back here in the future.

This is a small, unpretentious Vietnamese restaurant with good quality food. If you order the smaller size of the combination beef pho, you'll get an unpretentious bowl with a reasonable quantity of meat, the tendon attached to the fatty brisket, no tripe, not an overwhelming quantity of noodles, tasty broth. A good bowl, a decent bowl. Another time I tried a bbq meat/shrimp/rice plate. Vietnamese bbq is very plain, and that's what I got here: thin slices of meat, very nicely grilled, textured and not dull; same with the shrimp; on steamed rice. Simple and satisfactory.

You wouldn't think much of it walking by, but if you're looking for some comfort food of the South East Asian traditions, look no further. These folks serve authentic Vietnamese cuisine with a full menu ranging from Banh Mi sandwiches (tofu, chicken, steak or pork), BBQ plates to Spring rolls and Pho. They also have chow mein or chow fun, wonton soups and fried rice options on the menu. The best things about this place? Family owned. The service is on point and the food is appropriately priced. Not one of them fancy new age Asian fusion food spots. There are no games being played, no performances, no gimmicks. All the way legit. Vegetarians: order the spicy lemongrass tofu Everyone else: try the deep fried quail. A delicacy! Oh, yeah. I recommend you Bring cash. They take card but don't accept Apple Pay. No big deal but still...you should know ahead of time.

hole in the wall. very much a stop after a long day of work. I'd definitely recommend people looking for Vietnamese comfort food. The servers are pretty nice and they ask you not to tip (i'd still ask just in case)

This is a cute, cozy spot that I've frequented for many years! The imperial rolls are consistent and there's an option for vegetarian rolls. I always get an entire tray of imperial rolls as my meal. Husband loves their tea and overall such a delight to have this spot!

We came on a rainy weekend and the place was packed. This feels like a legit Vietnamese hole in the wall spot in the Mission. The pho looked popular here, but I got the chicken and shrimp vermicelli dish, which I enjoyed. My only issue is that the door does close tightly and the wind kept blowing at us while we were eating. Sometimes the service can be slow since it is a one man show. I recommend this spot if you're looking for authentic Vietnamese in the Mission.

We ordered Vegan sweet & spicy pho and their vegetables curry. Excellent comfort food was brought to us promptly. The restaurant is very clean, and service was high quality as well.

I love this place! This is my favorite restaurant in the city! Excellent food it is very clean, it's family owns, when I'm going there I feel at home, the service is very good and the food is so good wow, and is coming fast which I love it lol. If I could give 100 stars I will give it Enjoy :)

Everything here was just okay. * Deep fried prawns in rice paper wrap: good, but nothing special. * Shrimp and pork roll (cold): pork was a little smelly, I thought it could be fresher. * Side of beef broth: not good. Very sweet and bland.

in SF PHO REAL @midwestmunching First stop to celebrate this szn is PHO. We came to San Francisco to celebrate one of my high school/Google Hong Kong friend's wedding We extended our stay for a few days so that we could enjoy some bomb food of course stayed around the mission district area and bumped into this bad boy This is the 2nd restaurant that Thanh Tam had. Which means that it was so good that they were able to expand in SF! If any of you have been to sf , the rent is so high that if your restaurant is not good , you'll close down pretty quickly :) Wouldn't say it's over the top or the best pho I've had around the world. At the very least, I'd say that this place is legit and you get really authentic viet food made by viets. There's a large menu full of the classic stuff eg Banh mi, and of course pho If you order the special combo, you get raw, flank steak, tripe, and beef balls. The noodles are nice and chewy and soup is towards the sweeter side. The basil, bean sprouts, and chilli are all surprisingly fresh, which makes your $14 medium sized (yes.. this pho is only medium sized) even BETTER but.. MVP most of all is this spring roll . Nice and crispy + filled up with the best ingredients pork, vermicelli, mushroom, carrot. Tightly packed to a T and deep fried till a golden brown. They give you noodles, lettuce, cilantro, and cucumber to pair the rolls with .

sooooo good, not overpriced, fair portions, more no frills style place run by friendly people. the inside is kind of musty vibe but the food was totally worth it. my friend and i got the normal beef pho, he got a large and i got the regular size, but they seemed about the same once they came out.

I cannot say enough good things about my DoorDash order! Packed to perfection, super yummy white meat chicken, the BEST crispy pot stickers, these guys know what's UP. Oh yeah proper Thai tea too! I am so picky and these guys crushed it! Chicken noodle soup, potstickers, Thai tea!!!! YUMMMMMM!!!

One of the better viet food place in the mission. The Bo tai chanh (beef carpaccio) is amazing but needs an extra fish sauce for that kick. The bun Bo xao (lemongrass beef vermicelli) contains weird ingredients and bell peppers. Seem a bit Americanized. The bun Bo xao should have bigger viermicelli and have more viet herbs and veggies. Despite all that, definitely delicious and worth trying.

I thought the service and the food were good... Until I got so sick from food poisoning, I ended up in the ER the next day and almost died from severe dehydration and pooping straight-up blood with no stool all day long. I was diagnosed with bacterial Gastroenteritis. I've been in pain for 5 days and am on antibiotics (azithromycin) to clear up this infection. I had chicken fried rice at this restaurant. Whatever I got from this place was no joking matter. It almost killed me, I repeat, ALMOST KILLED ME! This is my 5th day and I'm doing better and I am writing this review to warn others.

Your local mom and pop pho shop! It's hard to find good pho in the city and this place is good enough for my taste buds!! I got the rare steak and beef ball pho. The broth felt clean and was still flavorful. The location is convenient and the service is nice and quick. I'll be sure to take some photos next time!

Passed by here a million time and I finally decided to get takeout. I wanted pho after being sick so I can feel better, and this place does the trick. The portion is huge for large size. The soup did the job, but it was on the lighter side. The bun bowl looks better, so I might give that a try next time. Their summer roll looks legit and good size as well. I will come back.

My wife and I have been coming here for a few years; it's just one of our comfort food spots. The folks who run it are very nice. Casual ambiance that is slightly small but I have always had plenty of space.

I stepped into this Vietnamese spot on a whim after seeing pictures of their banh mis outside that looked delicious. Going with the flow, no Yelp-ing beforehand, I just went in and bought a grilled chicken banh mi. It's been a while since I've had a good banh mi and this one really hit the spot. I enjoyed eating it and would probably get it again. I really want to go back and try their lemongrass tofu and imperial rolls as well! The only reason I'm going 4 instead of 5 is that there were 2-3 bites where I got an intense fishy taste that made me almost sick :( I think for someone who eats fish it wouldn't be a big deal but I wasn't prepared for it and it was really unappetizing. Overall, I think you should definitely drop in and give this place a try!

One of the best chicken noodle soup I ever had. Great taste and generous cuts of chicken. The rice noodles and broth was delicious . This one dish is what I had and it's a 5 star for me. Good place to grab some good Vietnamese soup on a rainy day. Hit the spot.

I'll go back. We stopped in for lunch and was pleasant surprised. The Wonton Soup had a rich broth and the wontons were perfectly plump and plentiful. The owner was attentive and nice, and the outside seats and table were clean. Not at all bad and I'd defiantly go back.

Greta pho spot! Little hole in the wall to get your pho fix. The broth wasn't overly flavorful but want the worst I've had. The chicken was decent, standard sliced chicken breast. The portion size was generous. We also got the fried egg rolls. Those were really flavorful and had a nice crunch to them. The restaurant was clean for the location and size. Definitely a place to grab a quick bite to take out. Pretty standard for what you're looking for in a quick crunch.

Really like the Banh Mi sandwiches wish they would allow to add egg into it. Automatically can tell this is a hole in the wall most definitely coming back

This is our go-to Vietnamese place in the neighborhood. We usually get pho, pork over rice, fried spring rolls, and/or fresh spring rolls, and everything is good. Quick service either when you call in for pickup or dine-in. I've been going here for over 10 years, and it's definitely on rotation in our household for takeout.

Great food and quick service. One guy waiting all the tables - he was great and so helpful. Had the pork banh mi and it was great. Cheap, filling and flavorful, would definitely recommend!

I wanted to like this place more!!! Small shop, a server that got the job done but wasn't too nice, what could feel more authentic for a Vietnamese restaurant? I got the shaken beef salad with a side of rice. The beef was nicely tender but the sauce was pretty watery. My bf got the pho and they didn't include all the meats that we ordered, plus it tasted like broth made from powder. Overall I would come here if I really wanted Vietnamese food but it doesn't tasted like home.

Waitstaff ignored us for a while. Food at a reasonable price. Worst Bahn Mi I've had in a long time. Bad pork in there. No flavors.

One of my favorite pho spots in the City, definitely top 5. Great food at a solid price. The service is quick & simple, no frills. You go in, order & enjoy a delicious, heart warming bowl of soup. I go for the combination beef soup as a staple but the chicken soup is delicious as well. Good space to bring some hungry friends but don't stay too long so you can make space for other hungry folks. It can get packed in there!

Went today with a guest for lunch. Only two other tables seated. I requested the window seat but the waiter gave me attitude because it was a 4 top and there were only two of us. So we went across the street for sushi. I've eaten here three times and got take out twice. Food is good. First time for had service.

Just ordered for the first time, and it was delicious! I had the pork chop and shredded pork over rice. Great spice and tender pork. Everything was prepared perfectly. Will definitely order from them again and happy to patronize a Family business.

Thanh Tam II is an unsuspecting hidden gem! The restaurant is super small and we almost missed it while walking by, but this cozy Vietnamese spot is a real treat. We came here for lunch on a weekend and we were seated immediately. The interior is rugged feeling but definitely indicative of that homey mom-and-pop shop kind of feel. We ordered the combination beef pho (pho dac biet) and rare steak pho (pho tai) and I kid you not, the food came out 5 mins after they took our orders. My friend also had some more specific requests (no onions, no cilantro, etc) and they happily accommodated. This bowl of pho was one of the better ones I've had in SF as the broth was rich and full of beef flavor. There was not a ton of noodles (I ordered medium size) but enough to fill me up for lunch and there is an option to add extra noodles for $2 more. They also advertise free delivery but I would highly recommend going in person for the ~vibes~ and fresh pho.

one of my "go to" places when I have that crave for pho (the other being golden lotus) I usually get the large and most pho places serve up a nice large portioned soup. good location in the mission and actually a good place for people watching since this place is very popular and many types enjoy the food here

Prices are inaccurate online, especially on mobile (which has a different menu than the web). The staff in the restaurant was pretty hostile about this when I pointed out my bill was 50% higher than expected for a pickup order. They said the website wasn't theirs and someone else runs it, not the restaurant... shoved me a menu and then ignored me. Maybe they just don't know how to update their own website and are really frustrated when people mention something about it? Food was pretty decent. The attitude was about the worst.

I now go to Sunflower--valencia entrance btw---lovely woman and VERY ATTENTIVE SERVICE-----But about this place, Why does it say "closure" march 9 (on the yelp listing) when it is clearly open. I have came in 3 times in the last couple months. I connect eyes with a worker and they point to sit down. What happens each time: i sit there. At least one worker a bald man is YELLING at another person in the back. I sit there. Bald guy passes by to deliver a check to someone. Passes back by does not acknowledge me and heads to a table to clean it off. I sit there. I look around to see if someone is about to take my order. No one does. It is around 5 pm so not about to close. I say "nevermind" and get up and leave. I guess they dont serve white women. Never again.

I think the food is decent, but the service is so bad. One of the guys just has a hot temper from PTSD or something. Patrons want to come here, eat and have a good time. Not to throw down.

This spot on Valencia can be overlooked quite easy. It is not the super fancy or hip spot you expect in this neighborhood. But their prices are cheap for SF and this era in particular. I had the Bahn Mi with Tofu for 6,50$ which was very good. The tofu was tasty ands well prepared the bun was warm and crispy also the size was just about right. The service is attentive and quick, I will be back to try the other dishes as they have quite a good selection of vegetarian ones.
