The Best Coffee Shops in Vancouver, Washington | Eater Portland

"Thatcher’s conveniently located near the highway, offers coffee and espresso drinks made with its signature roast from Pastimes as well as Parmesan-leek croissants, cranberry-pecan thumbprint cookies, honey-roasted walnut rosemary scones, and trip-worthy housemade granola with apricots and almonds all baked every day in the small oven behind the coffee bar. On a good day, the smell of granola baking in the oven drifts through this bright cafe." - Rachel Pinsky

Sip Coffee at These Charming Cafes in Portland and Beyond

"Vancouver’s best multi-roaster coffee shop is tucked away in a small strip mall near Pearson Field. After opening its doors in 2010, Thatcher’s has only refined its vision and grown over the years. At Thatcher’s, visitors peruse a rotating selection of coffee from both local and national roasters such as Roseline,  Onyx Coffee Lab, and Methodical. These coffees can be ordered as batch brew, espresso, cold brew, or pour overs. All the pastries and syrups here are made in-house, so make sure to check out the pastry case and ask about the seasonal drinks." - Levi Rogers

Google
Such a cute coffee shop with wonderful people that work there. The seating is great with good outdoor seating options, with a very cute and calm atmosphere. Calling out the delicious gluten free pastries as well, banana bread is wonderous, almond muffin was SO good and others are great as well. All around one of the best coffee shops in Vancouver and worth a trip over the bridge as well. Close to the beautiful walk along the river as well.

Google
Thatcher’s Coffee is such a great spot to work from—plenty of space, a calm and welcoming atmosphere, and the vibes are immaculate. It strikes that perfect balance between cozy and modern. One of my favorite things about this place is how many gluten-free options they offer. It makes grabbing a snack or meal so much easier (and tastier!) without having to stress. Between the great coffee, the friendly staff, and the relaxing environment, this place has definitely become one of my go-to work cafés.

Google
Love this place! I go here a couple times a month to work in the mornings. Great coffee, excellent service. The pastries look amazing, but I don't eat that kind of thing... not enough protein. Highly recommend.

Google
I just have a hard time paying over $10 for a plain cup of coffee and a small piece of banana bread. The coffee was supposed to be a medium, but the size was closer to a child’s cup. With the kind of markup typical for café food, you’d think they’d at least serve a slightly larger portion to help offset the feeling of being ripped off.

Google
Absolutely beautiful spot, the kindest people you will ever meet work there. And let's chat about this amazing rhubarb croissant, (When I get done wiping the crumbs away...) It really doesn't get better than this. They also have the best rose almond milk tea latte, and cool cards. ❤️

Google
I really like the mocha here, and can handle it full sweet unlike many chain/drive through spots. I didnt ask but seems like it has grated real chocolate, which is a nice texture. Also tried their rosemary walnut scone which was incredible. Not sure how to describe it, and I normally like a sweet scone, but 100% will get it again next time

Secret Shopper

Google
My favorite place, I go at least twice a week. Excellent coffee, I have my Almond milk latté. professional people., very worth the price. No wonder it’s so busy. Also, the ambiance is very Nice. Looks like the owner is real expert in hiring the right people and delivering excellent product.

Google
Cozy coffee shop not too far from the Columbia River. Popular venue, great place to catch up with friends. Recommend the almond rose latte and Parmesan leek croissant, yummy!

Yelp
The drink was really good, I got the Autumn Spice latte with Oatmilk. The service was the highlight of the visit! Everyone was so kind and welcoming, they made my drink well and were all willing to answer any questions I had! The cafe has a nice fresh and open interior, it feels very wide and there are quite a few plants which I think makes the place a bit more comforting. The only downside is that there aren't any really comfy seating areas, I know most cafés usually have one or two really nice comfy seating spaces which is something this place lacks! Overall a great cafe, highly recommend!

Yelp
This has become a go-to when in town to meet family and walk the trails near Fort Vancouver. Delicious, exquisitely crafted coffee and pastries. Staff are very friendly and accommodating, and there are great cards, knick knacks and gifts as well. Some outdoor seating while indoor is clean and cozy. Location is convenient to restaurants, grocery and highway.

Yelp
Cozy café with welcoming atmosphere. They have tons of live plants which really add to the vibe. This has been my favorite coffee place in the area for many years when I lived here. After I moved to another state, I always stop here whenever I'm back in the area. The coffee, tea, and pastries are delicious and they always have creative seasonal offerings. A few items for sale, souvenirs as well as coffee related items. Background music just the right volume. Service is always friendly and knowledgeable The only thing missing is a comfy armchair.

Yelp
I ordered a turmeric latte and the first thing that hits me was how grainy the turmeric powder was, which was not I expecting, I thought it would be blended into the drink. My friends were also disappointed with their drinks as well. One of my friends ordered a latte and it was too milky so we asked for another shot and they charged us another $5. Another one of my friends got a rosemary latte expecting it to be subtle, the barista assured her it would be. She couldn't finish the drink because all she could taste was rosemary. Edit: the owner went above and beyond to address our concerns and make sure we were satisfied with our experience after a bad first experience. Jamie's was willing to work with us and provide great customer! Much appreciated

Yelp
Finally had a chance to try out this fabulous spot. I tried the golden orange turmeric latte, which was unbelievably delicious, and a raspberry scone, which had just the right amount of moistness, unlike most scones that are too dry. The setting is lovely. I came in on a wonderfully warm day, and they had the garage door open to the dining room, giving a wonderful inside/outside experience. I was about to write that the coconut milk and the almond milk are not non-GMO, because they come from Pacific foods, and they do not have the non-GMO verified seal on the box. But I went to the Pacific foods website and discovered that all of their products are non-GMO, even those that don't have the seal. Yay! I was also delighted to find out that the pastries they make use cage, free eggs, so I know they come from chickens that are treated better than average. So I am happy to confidently give this place five stars. Well done!

Yelp
$6.50 for a small almond milk latte that tasted like water. Probably won't be back. Cute interior. No soy milk sadly.

Yelp
Super cute space, looks great for working or studying (although a bit loud; but with headphones you'd be good hehe). I got the iced matcha latte with lavender cardamom and oat milk. Super creamy and the lavender flavor is so nice and herby! My dad got the caramel latte and said he'd give it 6 stars bcs the design was cute on top of the coffee ^_^. The service was also great, the lady who helped us was so sweet and even gave us directions to the waterfront since were visiting from CA. overall very nice little place!

Yelp
Can't follow simple instructions, like- decaf. If you have a sensitive stomach, avoid.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything I remember. Thatchers is an all time favorite with the smoothest of coffee, most flakey decadent pastries and relaxing, friendly vibe! Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by after a walk on the waterfront and had the honey lavender vanilla iced latte. Really good, not too sweet which was nice. My son had a blueberry raspberry muffin and a blueberry banana smoothie from the kids menu which he seemed to enjoy both! Nice setting, garage type door open for an indoor/outdoor feel and plenty of outdoor seating.

Yelp
Best crew, best customer service, best food/treats/iced matcha-oatmilk lattes, and the best ambiance! We have been going to Thatcher's for years and absolutely love it. One of our all time favorite locations in the Vancouver/Portland area. Thank you!!

Yelp
There are few things in life I like more than sweet baked goodies and coffee is definitely on that list and Thatcher's coffee has both of those items and some more - so needless to say I loved them . This place is cute and is very conveniently located with a host of other stores and restaurants , so you run your errands and get your coffee at the same time .Its a woman-owned business, and there were more than one pop-ups going on when we visited .The vibe is very cute and they had a giant wall with chalk art on it - really Insta worthy . We got the Lavender cardamom latte and the golden Orange turmeric latte along with the Pumpkin and caramelized apple hand pie and the almond flour muffin . Everything tasted good , the drinks were a little sugary even though I specifically inquired before I ordered if they were going to be too sweet .Lots of seating and very good natural light in case you intend to do some work or reading . It does get loud though so not the best place to work if noise bothers you .There is lots of parking right out front .

Yelp
Thatcher's is the type of place that makes you want to quit your job and find one that would allow you to linger over your laptop in a coffee shop all day long. Ambiance feels peaceful, the staff are lovely and the coffee offerings are just want you want. They raise the bar with house made syrups/sauces and even make most of their pastries from scratch. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I had the best scone of my life there. Do not pass up the pastries (looking at you, raspberry scone), you can thank me later. Pair with a lavender cardamom latte and you will find yourself going completely out of your way just to go there again, as soon as possible.

Yelp
The lavender oat milk latte is to die for and the service is so beyond friendly. A very amazing small coffee shops are amazing energy. And the moody weather is incredible for a place like this!

Yelp
This is the best coffee in Vancouver, period. They might not roast their own beans, but they stock some of the best coffee in Portland, if not the country by them stocking Onyx, a world renowned roaster from Arkansas. I love coming here to grab some great, interesting coffees. Their switch to Past Time also shows their commitment to quality and relationships with their roasters. I was initially skeptical, as I've loved Roseline's past roasts and Past Time is a roaster with no history, other than being the project of the former head roaster at Roseline. Holy cow though, Past Time has some delicious stuff. On top of that, it's a great place to stop by and get some work done. Cozy vibes with ample seating and charging ports and friendly staff. There's a reason why they get so much business.

Yelp
Local coffee joint. I tried a chai latte which they use from a local vendor (Tanglewood Spice). Some of the pastries were good too: I liked the lavender, honey, walnut scone.
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
This is a very cute local coffee shop. Great customer service and the barista treated me and everyone there as if we were her good neighbors. The chalk art and decoration inside are absolutely beautiful. Lots of corner seats to just tuck away and get lost in your work and coffee. Decent coffee and they carry some of the beans from my favorite roasters. When I stopped by around 11:30am, they were completely out of pastries and only had a few cookies left. That was a bummer but I'll be returning again and again for sure!

Yelp
What a perfect place, great atmosphere, food and customer service. Almost makes me want to move to the Couve. :)

Yelp
Best chai tea! Spicy with Ginger! The chai elixir can be purchased. It is one of the best I've had. I'm always looking for chai that's not powdered and all sugar. This isn't sweet. The pastries are delicious as well

Yelp
I've wanted to go here for years, so finally just took my mum and aunt last week. I got a small iced lavender cardamom latte with an extra shot, a croissant and a couple of gift shop-type items they had on display. The woman at the register was super pleasant- had my experience ended with her I would have been happy. However, the wait for our drinks was incredibly long, despite only 2 other people being in front of us (about 25 minutes) and when my drink was finally called out, they made it wrong. I politely mentioned the error and the 2 women standing behind the espresso machine immediately looked upset, started mumbling to themselves and (still without saying anything to me) took my drink back. I don't like to be a burden, but it was also an expensive drink, so as much as I'd wanted to let it go and spend time with my family instead of waiting even longer, I had to say something. Because they weren't acknowledging the mistake and taking a long time to remake the correct latte, it made me appear like I was just lingering at the counter for no reason, so I had other staff come over and ask why I was still standing there.. I don't feel I did anything wrong, but I was certainly made by these two to feel like I was really bothering them. When they set my correct drink out, they didn't say a word to me. I thanked them profusely, with a smile, and they still said nothing back. It was a deeply uncomfortable interaction that has stuck with me. Besides that, the coffee was probably one of the best I've had in Vancouver and there was lots of seating inside and outside. Parking lot was packed, though, so be prepared to search for a bit or walk a small distance.

Yelp
I haven't been back to Washington State for over 5 years, so I was so excited to revisit one of my favorite coffee shops, Thatcher's!!! This coffee house serves up some of the best quality drinks, and pastries! Everything is house made, and they only use the best of the best, ingredients, and it shows, or taste rather! They offer a huge selection of teas, including matcha lemonade, which I had, it was refreshing, and super delicious! Hubby had the cappuccino, just as amazing as we remembered! I highly recommend stopping into this cute and friendly coffee house, you won't regret it!
google avatar

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop with friendly staff! I ordered the matcha latte with oat milk and it was absolutely delicious! Each member of the staff that j interacted with was friendly and courteous. Very clean place, lots of plants, chalk art, and other goodies in there. Great vibes all around. Most definitely will return!

Nancy G.

Yelp
Truly back to absolutely smashing service and spectacular beverages and pastries. The pastries have never varied - always perfection- and honestly we've been back several times now and all is wonderful wonderful! No place makes a better cappuccino!! Love it here!!

Julia P.

Yelp
I stopped in today before hitting the road home towards Seattle. My scone was so good - one of the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop and a great place to work. I really liked their homemade caramel latte. This is a popular spot for people to work at, so it could be a little crowded.
google avatar

Jana K.

Yelp
This shop does not accept cash in any form. I intentionally went across the lot to patronize this local shop that was an unknown to me and ended up leaving without coffee because of their payment policy.

Paul P.

Yelp
Good atmosphere, quality coffee and teas. Staff is usually very friendly and efficient. Prices a bit higher than others, but not out of line. Didn't try the bakery goods, but look awfully tempting.
google avatar

Bryon C.

Yelp
Great coffee shop, lots of seating and good selection of fresh baked pastries. Staff are always very polite and they keep the place clean. Very family friendly
google avatar

Joan F.

Yelp
Wonderful local coffeehouse with a clean, inviting interior and truly delicious coffee with on point service. Just go, or visit he smaller version at the Vancouver public library. Both locations are wonderful.

Lucia K.

Yelp
Excellent pastries, can be pricey- $3.50 for one small cookie, but worth it. Scones are really good. Coffee on the other hand, not good... really weak flavor, even with 2 espresso shots

Elle K.

Yelp
The cutest local coffee shop with great customer service! There's lots of seating and the space is so warm and bright. I'll be back!

Sharon N.

Yelp
Sweet shop. Nice service. Good coffee. Didn't get a pastry but stared at the interesting selections. Sorry to hear about the issues as to why you have to go cashless. But understand wholly.

Dustin J.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop in all of the PNW. It is locally owned by a super rad lady who really cares about her staff and the local community. Thatchers' layout and interior design is modern, warm, and well thought out. I LOVE the percolator pendant lighting, community table, & giant chalkboard art that changes regularly. The baked goods are INSANELY delicious. My fav is the shortbread cookie. They offer different roaster's coffees including Onyx, Roseline, & Proud Mary. The tea blends are also impressive. They have great merch, too, oh and THE BEST greeting cards. I always pick something up when I'm there for upcoming birthdays or special occasions.
google avatar

Chad W.

Yelp
This review has nothing to do with the quality of service, or the coffee. They have great service, and great coffee. In fact they are one of my favorite coffee establishments in Vancouver. The reason that I am giving them a 3 star review is because Thatchers refuses to accept cash as payment. We live in the United States of America, and cash is legal tender for goods & services. There is absolutely no good reason a business can give me for not accepting cash as payment. I will no longer be giving my business to one of my favorite coffee establishments until they start taking cash as payment again.
google avatar

Skylar A.

Yelp
I love the aesthetics I love the employees I also love the diversity of coffees and pastries that they offer. Unfortunately I just do not like the rotating brewed coffee which is the only type of coffee I drink. I find it really hard to give them anything below a four-star because everything else is outstanding and I just have a very particular pallet for my coffee's. Still a great place though and I still pick my wife up coffee from there regularly.
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
I'm a long-time mocha aficionado and must say that Thatchers mocha is my favorite in Vancouver! The beautiful atmosphere is another favorite. It's been a nice place to read or do class work and be inspired by the cheery, creative vibe.
google avatar

R. M.

Yelp
Very cute coffee place. The coffee was great and the so were the baked goods. The Earl grey cookies were scrumptious. The Lavender latte tasted like a little bit of heaven. The only issue is that they close so early, 4pm.

Haiden C.

Yelp
This is my wife Tabby and I's favorite coffee shop in Vancouver. Everyone that works there is super friendly and we've enjoyed getting to know most of them! We love their baked goods, delicious natural ingredients and overall ambiance of the shop. It's a great place for all to enjoy and we are so happy we found them! Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Davina K.

Yelp
Great coffee, nice place to work. Some Gluten free treats which is always a plus. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Harmony N.

Yelp
I have never been to a coffee shop where they put heart swirls in your latte. It was quite a cool experience. My friend and I went for breakfast one morning. The staff was pleasant, my mocha had a heart in it, and the banana vegan bread was good (crumbly and vegan, but good). I liked the atmosphere and there were a lot of people on their computers so I'm sure they have wifi. We sat outside because it was a beautiful morning and the atmosphere was great there as well. I am a coffee snob, so I was pleasantly surprised at their blend of espresso. It was dark and perfectly brewed.
google avatar

LaSheila R.

Yelp
Thatchers is a great place to get coffee if you are looking for a place that doesn't have staff screaming your name so loud- I love that. I can enjoy coffee and conversation without feeling like I am in a WWF arena. The coffee is great. They make their own syrups so the coffee doesn't have a weird chemical taste. I've had the quiche and it is amazing- rich and flavorful. The granola is filled with nuts, not too sweet, and the oats are crispy. This is a regular spot for me.
google avatar

Katherine V.

Yelp
Since moving from Portland to Vancouver, Thatcher's has become my home-away-from-home. I really believe they have the best coffee in the 'couv and the atmosphere inside is lovely. The employees are friendly and attentive. The space is well-lit and decorated nicely with a large, rotating chalk mural. They sell Bakeshop items (read: Figgy Scone - best scone in the NW). They have delicious regular and special drinks. AND...they have a BOGO coupon in the Chinook Book. I love you, Thatcher's. Thank you for being you.
google avatar

Surya M.

Yelp
Thatchers has a very cozy environment which is what makes it a good place to do work at. The mocha is rich and chocolatey. The workers, are nice, making friendly conversation while you're ordering/getting your drink. Would recommend coming here if you have a lot to get done and want to be productive.
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
The customer service here is fantastic- while all employees were nice and welcoming my cashier provided warm welcoming service and was very personable. You could tell she is great at her job and values the guest experience. The drink quality of my soy Carmel macchiato was top notch. Prices are competitive. Wish they had a great coffee shop like this near my home.
google avatar

Marguerite K.

Yelp
It saddened me to find out their best pastry is a seasonal item. The blueberry scone is the best out of all in my humble opinion. Too bad it's not available all the time. Other than that everyone is very friendly and it's a nice place to go.

Magnus O.

Yelp
Great coffeeshop just east of Downtown Vancouver. I just moved here and I'd go for the ease of parking alone, but the atmosphere and baked goods far outweigh the parking.
google avatar

Louise G.

Yelp
Coffee: Good! Food Selection: Pastries and small bites. Wish they had more food options. Staff: Friendly! Tables for laptops: A bit high, but otherwise good. don't know if there are plugs around. Interior: Airy and Open.
google avatar

Brandon D.

Yelp
I use To really enjoy this place. Since the last couple times I've visited the place I've noticed the beautiful heart warming American flag was displayed high and proud on the left hand wall when you walk in. I decided to ask the cashier where it was and when are they gonna put it back up. She essentially replied, "it's never going to be up there because it's too political." Political? Seriously? A symbol of freedom, prosperity, justice, sacrifice, and generosity is political? I don't know who owns the place, but if you are gonna cradle to the thoughts of one or two people being offended by the flag. Then so what! You might as well get rid of the "Americano" then, because it has the word American in it and change to the "commie-cano." Old folk tale is that during World War Two is where the word americano came from because they Americans fighting for this country and sacrificing their lives, couldn't handle the strength of the European coffee. Let that sink in. The fact you can own your own coffee shop, charge the prices you do, invite all people in that you do, is because of Americans who have died for that flag and who continue to die for the flag. They are the ones who give you that freedom.

Yelp
My goodness! I'm work in the area and tried Thatchers and they're so so good! Absolutely ten out of ten recommended. The owner is so kind and I absolutely adore this shop!
