A cozy gem for your caffeine fix! Thayer serves rich, beautifully crafted coffee in a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere. The staff is friendly and the vibe is perfect for a casual catch-up or a solo work session.

Hip vibes coffee shop!!! House made vanilla syrup. Delish latte. Smells fabulous. Laptop friendly with plenty of seating. Huge couch downstairs. Bookshelves all around. Hugely fantastic energy. My vanilla iced latte was fab. Tons of cool drink options like “spicy mocha latte”. Will be back to try some cool combos & read a book / get stuff done. They have baked goods sourced from local spots

The person who served me was talking with friends at the counter and seemed annoyed I wanted to order. The drink was fine but $6 for tea poured from a packaged bottle.. ouch. Then I sat down downstairs for about an hour before being kicked out 5 min before there was a "reservation" for the downstairs area?? There are much better coffee shops than this one that's all I'm saying. Not coming back here.

A chill place to spend your own time. Stylish design in a cozy space. Hojicha latte was pretty normal. Balanced flavor but not too creamy.

Hip modern coffee shop in the east village. Great for pastries and all types of coffees. The best place to grab a seat is upstairs but there’s a decent couch and chairs set downstairs as well.

We had an amazing experience at Thayer Coffee Shop, our last stop, before heading to the airport. The coffee here is fantastic! After chatting with the owner, we learned that their goal is simple: to make a great cup of basic coffee – no frills, just quality. And that's exactly what we got. As fans of drip coffee, we were blown away by how good theirs is. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, which made our visit even more enjoyable. What sets this place apart is that the owner also runs a small press, offering beautifully printed books in limited quantities, which you can browse in the shop. The atmosphere is relaxed, casual, and welcoming. We highly recommend Thayer to anyone looking for a cosy spot with excellent coffee and great vibes!

This simple and modern coffee shop is a blessing on this block! It’s very cozy and feels like home. The music is chill and the staff is so friendly. There Muenster Tomato toast was light and fresh! Just what I needed to start off my day :)

Lovely spot for coffee. It's the right amount of ambient noise to sit down and enjoy your drink. There's reliable wifi and a restroom.

Yelp
I feel like I wasn't cool enough to be in this spot I ended up here because it was close to a reservation I had to wanted to work from a coffee shop nearby with WiFi. It was packed but I was able to find a single spot in the 2 story spot. The bathroom was spacious and had what looked like an iguana tank inside without something alive in it. I ended up here because of another review and got the cereal milk coffee but didn't taste what made it stand out. Also had a blueberry pastry that was solid. Staff were so friendly. Would go back when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Cool cafe to do some work in the LES. I saw this place on TikTok, but its a bit smaller than what the video made it seem. Nevertheless, there's still a decent amount of seats since you can share some of the tables with others and there is couch/bar seating. They have a downstairs too - I took a quick peak and it was a bit dark. Plenty of outlets and well-lit on the first floor. Clean and large bathroom as well! I didn't try the wifi, but I saw a bunch of laptops out so I'm sure that exists as well. The vibe is very clean and aesthetic. It's more of a quiet, "working" atmosphere rather than anyone chatting. Water (including sparkling) on tap by the front counter. I tried the honey nut Cheerio special drink ($6.5) because the name sounded cool. I don't know what I was expecting but they did a pretty spot-on job of making it taste like the cereal (read: very oat-y). It was definitely caffeinated so it got me very buzzed so might be worth the price in that sense. Would come back for a chill cafe day!w

Yelp
One star for horrible vibes and one star for horrible service. Their coffee is overpriced and their pastry offerings are meager on a good day. Would suggest going elsewhere-- C&B around the corner, Ninth Street Espresso an avenue over, Cosmic Cat/Ludlow Coffee a short walk away are more deserving of your business.

Yelp
A clean, avante garde coffee shop that is great to just come and get some work done. On tap sparkling water is HUGE. Quick tangent/life hack: When on a first date, let your date order the water and if she orders still or tap get up and leave right away. Aahahahahah I'm just yanking your 14k gold plated chain but on a serious note on tap sparkling water is elite. Been in here 5-6 times now and the staff is always welcoming and accommodating, and the coffee is tremendous. They also sell wine and beer here if you tryna get a little loose... Also love that they have wifi here. Not sure why so many coffee shops in NYC don't. Thayer is another Alphabet City W!

Yelp
My favorite matcha in NYC! I try to make my version at home but theirs is unbeatable. Chic decor & great place to work. Lovely selection of photo books. The best staff.

Yelp
Nice spot to drop in for coffee. Cool vibe with tons of people studying and some books for sale. Very reasonable prices for coffee and food. And free sparkling water!

Yelp
Cute, cozy cafe with WiFi and restrooms in the lower east side, so happy I stumbled upon Thayer. It doesn't seem too well known from what I'm seeing so far and you know what that means--We love a quiet hidden gem. Great coffee, great vibes, great atmosphere to get your mind off of the daily hustle and bustle!

Yelp
need the buzz of coffee or an adult beverage (wine or beer)? Thayer serves both plus a small selection of pastries and savory options in a charming modern space. the coffee is delicious (Irving Farm) and Thayer's vibe is as satisfying --comforting, warm, yet energetic like its brewed "java." its interior is clean to the eye without feeling cold bc the service from the staff to owner is warm and genuine, not invasive. today's world feels increasingly transactional--SO it is refreshing to have an "exchange of goods for $s" that doesn't feel like a cold transfer. Thayer is "chilled out" and the coffee is served hot and with care--THIS IS THE WAY. Thayer also doubles as a home for an independent press. another welcome addition to Avenue B

Yelp
My favorite thing about Thayer is that they know who they are. The coffee is delicious, it's a great place to post up and work from, if I want to catch up with a friend and chat, or if I want to look scarf a cinnamon toast that reminds me of my childhood. One of my favorite spots in the East Village that I always head back to.

Yelp
Really cute store, didnt have a chance to try anything when I went in but the staff was really nice and welcoming which can be uncommon. Will be in to try their food and coffee!

Yelp
I really love the idea of this place and come often as the coffee is pretty great, but it feels more like a WeWork than a coffee shop. I can literally never get a seat because the limited seating is always taken over by people who have clearly finished their coffee an hour ago and are just doing work on their laptops. A laptop free zone or time limit on seating would do wonders for this place. I can almost never enjoy my coffee here and always have to take it to go, which defeats the whole point of me taking a coffee break to relax in a coffee shop.

Rob D.

Yelp
Best new coffee spot in the city. Really set up to let you chill and work while enjoying a delicious cup. Downstairs is super vibey as well. Hidden gem (for now) as the scaffolding outside sort of hides the beauty that is inside. Idk I just like it haha.

Ella M.

Yelp
I adore Thayer and everyone who works here! The vibes are immaculate. From the variety of seating, to the cool artwork, to the music, to the people! The owner Matt is so warm and welcoming. & the coffee is fab. Definitely a must for East Village coffee spots.

Yelp
Perfect place to work (or just grab a coffee) - wifi, comfy seating with outlets, and great drinks. They also have a nice selection of made to order open faced sandwiches + pastries. The coffee is a little expensive, but nothing crazy compared to other NYC cafes. The owners are also really nice and it's clear they care about facilitating a comfortable, friendly environment. Keep it up! :)
