Great Scotland Yard London Confirms Restaurants by Robin Gill | Eater London

"A cocktail bar centred on British cocktails, intended to spotlight native spirits and inventive mixology; it forms one half of the hotel’s beverage offering and aims to be a destination for creative, spirit-forward drinks rooted in UK ingredients and techniques." - James Hansen

This place had an almost whimsical nature to it. We just need a quick bite to eat after a long day of sightseeing, and wow, there was a wonderful restaurant at our hotel, the bar food hit the spot. The drinks had a good pour, the food was good, and the service was also very good. We were so happy to not have to walk any farther from our room.

Beth was the great team member of the 40 Elephants who greeted us and served our three drinks : Bee the Queen, the Alibi and the one with diamond. The service was absolutely perfect. It was my second time visiting the 40 Elephants bar after a fantastic experience with Alberto and his team. Tonight, Beth was super attentive and dedicated to offer a service of excellence. I would definitely recommend to spend quality time at the bar itself and of course to explore the fascinating interior design & decoration around. Probably, an excellent location for gathering people if you also consider the direct access to the meeting rooms at the - 1 floor.

Came here and literally swiped £200 pounds!! The place is pretty posh but the drinks are really good! I loved their spicy margarita! I would definitely recommend this place. I wouldn't say that you need to spend £200!! LOL

Stylish interior with interesting history. The bar manager was extremely pleasant and told us the whole history of the place. Proper cocktails and not overly expensive considering the area. Not rushed and the staff made my friends birthday special for her.

Elegant bar inspired by a powerful female group. The bar payed respect to the history by allocating the first two pages of the menu to the interesting story. The interior design also followed the theme, which I appreciated. I liked the design and furniture. The service was ok. We thought we’d get some nibbles (nuts/ olives/ or something) along with the drinks but that wasn’t the case. The drinks were quite good.

Based in the beautiful Grade II listed Great Scotland Yard hotel, which was once the home to The Met Police. The hotel and bar rift off the history of it once being the home of the London Police Force. The name “40 Elephants” comes from a renowned all female gang that were known of but rarely caught by the police. The decor of the bar is cozy, well finished and has some items on display that the gang used. The signature cocktails are named after key ladies from the 40 Elephants. I had a Compassionate Healer which was described as nutty / bittersweet / rich. It hit all of those and was delicious. My partner went for The Daring Diva, described as smoky / zesty / spicy. All that hit was the spice, harsh peppercorn spices with every sip, I would say it was undrinkable. It was made up from Casamigos Blanco, Corte Vetusto Mezcal, grapefruit cordial, grapefruit soda, where is the spicy coming from? Corte Vetusto Mezcal typically has black pepper on the nose, this cocktail however smelt clean but was full of black pepper on the palate. For £20 I would expect a better finish to the cocktail, not something so overpowering. The delivery of cocktails also needs improving. Mine was close to full to the brim when poured, but some had spilled on delivery, this resulted in a sticky glass. Whilst water was offered, it wasn’t free, and didn’t come with coasters, so the glasses created condensation on the table. Here’s hoping they refine the details because the potential is all there! Would love to revisit soon
