Blending history with outdoor adventure, the Rock Island Rail Trail repurposes a former railroad corridor into one of Amarillo’s most popular multi-use trails, as highlighted by the Amarillo Convention & Visitor Council and Texas Monthly. Stretching through several neighborhoods, the trail provides an immersive way to experience the city’s evolving landscape, public art, and community spirit—whether you’re walking, running, or cycling.
Very nice area for trail cycling.
Entrance is odd, you either pull over curb off of 9th street (just west of medi park entrance and on north side of 9th)
Or pull into parking lot at:

Pull to far east end of parking lot and drive off into dirt and follow tire tracks over to trail head.
Lots of trails for hiking, jogging and cycling.

thought I could have somewhat of a “nature” experience but not necessarily nice for just walking though. Smells like skunks, the “river” is full trash

It’s called Hobo Hills. The trails have been there for decades, built and maintained by different people in the area. Now, some elitists have taken it over and claim it as their own. Last time I checked, the City of Amarillo owns the land, not SPO. It’s open 24/7. Rain, wind, sleet, snow, or hail. ENJOY THE TRAILS!!

For trails being right outside our backyard, they are worthy. If you can’t make it down to the canyon this is the place to go. Trails have expanded and new features have been added, you will definitely enjoy the trails.

For a free trail to run, not bad. If you work in the area it’s a nice quiet place to escape to for a quick lunch run.

Could have easily spent an entire day here. It was hard to find but once you park and start walking, there is trails upon trails upon trails. Awesome. Free.
