A Guide to Denver’s Irish Pubs

"Over in Park Hill, The Abbey Tavern will welcome any Liverpool FC fan in for a pint. The restaurant reps its team’s gear on the walls and often airs its games on on one of its many televisions. Drinkers will find a small selection of Irish and local beers alongside a smaller selection of whiskey and scotch, as well as decent takes on fish and chips and Scotch eggs. A rotating selection of a beer and liquor of the month is on special daily for $4." - Camila Navarrette

The stroganoff was absolutely delicious, among the best I've ever had & reminiscent of the best Bologneses I've had. Worth the trip across the metro area & the price. Although I was uncertain initially, it turned out to be the perfect portion size. The jus was so good, I tried drinking it (but that was kind of too rich & obviously ill-advised regardless of my attempt). The staff & atmosphere were pleasant & relaxing. Very happy with my decision to come here.

Google
Great destination if you want to drink beer and watch football (soccer). If your going just for food, no so much. Friend and I went for a St Paddy's meal and were not impressed. Corned beef was dry, cabbage flavorless, and they put coleslaw on the Reuben instead of sauerkraut. French fries and O'Brien taters were good.

Google
Wonderful Irish session on Sunday afternoons. Everything on the menu is top-notch - way better than what I’ve come to expect as pub food. The staff is the best in town!

Google
We stopped by after the Pride 5K with some friends after their recommendation. We had the brunch menu and it was all really good. My daughter loved the kids menu and the atmosphere was typical for a pub type place. Would come back during the evening for some drinks and more food!

Google
You're reading this review, which means you are thinking about going here. Yes, you do. Rachel is an amazing bartender, the Guinness pours were proper, and the Irish breakfast with the black & white pudding is spot on. Shout out to Jody, and her baby mini Guinness!

Spouse went in to order takeout. The batter on the fish and chips was completely raw and undercooked making it inedible. We tried to call to rectify but no one would answer the phone. We will not be back.

Google
Fun tavern for an Irish jam session on a Sunday afternoon! Good drink selection and satisfying food. The corned beef reuben with fries was fresh, filling, and delicious. The flavors of the meat and dressing were particularly nice. Servers were friendly and cheerful and did a great job taking care of us as well as the musicians. Loved the jaunty and convivial vibes, looking forward to coming back.

Google
Fantastic bar - even better if you enjoy watching Liverpool beat the scum (Man U) 7-0 on a Sunday morning! Beers are fresh on tap, the food is simple but really well done and the wait staff are the best. Thoroughly enjoy every visit I have to The Abbey!

Yelp
Went here for Sunday brunch, awesome food and great service. Highly recommend the spinach and artichoke dip.

Yelp
This review took me a while to compose due to my experience at The Abbey Tavern. The food was really good. Always has been. I had ordered take-away meals before with never a complaint. On this night I was flying solo and had some extra time so I bellied up to the bar and ordered a couple of old fashions with my meal. Food and drinks were GREAT (one star for food, another for drinks). Things went a little sideways when a couple guys were ordering drinks beside me and one ordered a drink that was pink in the glass. For the rest of my night (another 15-20 minutes) I had to listen to the bartender making jokes about this guy drinking a "gay drink". The other patron kept shrugging it off and didn't seem bothered by it, just annoyed by the juvenile bartender. For me, this is enough to say I cannot go back. Sadly, as I do enjoy the place, the food and drinks, the proximity to home, having Nugs next door, the early opening for Premier League Soccer, all of it. But this does not feel like a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and as such I cannot support them.

Yelp
My sister and I came in to visit Denver and our tiny AirBnB is around the corner from The Abbey Tavern. While staying we visited the tavern a couple of times for drinks and another for food and drinks. We were not disappointed with the food, service, or any of the selections. The food menu here is diverse and is not serving your typical bar fare here. You will find things like meatloaf and short ribs with all the fixin's too. I was happy with the hefty burger I got and the generous amount of french fries too. Check out if they have their shepard's pie too. I read a lot about it but was too set on having a burger when we came in. They seem to have an array of events that go on during the week here too. When we were there they had a trivia game going on that you could play directly from their phone and at their table. I also want to point out the different areas of seating here that includes hightops/bar level seatings and booths. Parking would have been easy if we drove but the walkability to this tavern was too hard to dismiss.

Yelp
Very enjoyable atmosphere, and a fantastic server. We all enjoyed the appetizers especially the scotch eggs, our meals fast and delicious

Yelp
Great food. Cool atmosphere. Off-street parking. This place has surprisingly great food. My expectations are usually low at Irish Pubs. But, the short rib stroganoff was stellar and the shepherd's pie was fantastic as well. We heard from around the table that folks had never been disappointed by a dish, here. Check out the event calendar or call to find out what The Abby has going on before you head over. They have events like an Irish Music open jam night, which is super cool, but may not be the best night to go planning to have a conversation at your table. The Abbey has a small, off-street parking lot. This is unique for Colfax and a really nice option, since street parking can be hard to come by. If you are a soccer fan, this is a Liverpool bar. So, choose your soccer watching jersey carefully ;)

Yelp
I absolutely love this neighborhood bar. I've been coming here for over ten years to play trivia every Wednesday. The trivia game is the best I've played with a host that is filled with verve and personality. I truly think the trivia game, every Wednesday, 52 weeks a year is such an amazing perk for an already wonderful pub. SLAINTE! PS. The staff is the best part of my time spent here.

Yelp
This was such a great find in the Park Hill area! My friend and I stumbled across this place in search of true hearty brunch options. We were seated immediately, right after they opened and the restaurant was fairly empty, making social distancing easy. I ordered a mimosa (not bottomless, but the next best thing at $3 each!) and corned beef hash with potatoes extra crisped up and eggs over medium. The food and drinks were on point. The service was also fast. Prices were reasonable. A hidden gem tucked away on Colfax, I can't wait to try something new here.

Yelp
The Abbey is The Place.......to watch the World Cup.......delectable menu.... Enthusiastic patrons.....wide screens .... Come and give a yell !!!

Yelp
We went recently on our way to the airport as I was looking to watch the Liverpool game and found out this place is a Liverpool pub. Great atmosphere and we enjoyed being there. The food however, was just okay. I was quite disappointed with the fries as they seemed pretty pale, could've been cooked longer. My burger was not bad. My husband got the shepherd's pie which was okay too. We got the corned beef egg rolls which I didn't really like. Honestly the food is nothing to ride home about. If I'm in the area I might go back for a game but not so much for the food.

Yelp
Great spot and ample parking. Fun little place with great $5.00 drink specials. Food was delicious and the service was fantastic. Will definitely make my way back! LOTS of TVs so if u wanna watch a game, this is a great spot to be!

Yelp
Went on a slow rainy night. Sat at the bar and watched hockey Stanley cup finals. Bartender was very friendly and attentive. She recommended the steak sandwich and it was fantastic. Thick cuts of steak and the baguette was tasty with the garnish. Tiny bump of blue cheese at the end of the bite. Fries were pretty good. My only critique would be the steak could have been trimmed a tiny bit more. Had some inedible bites on the edges but that can be expected with that much steak. I'm headed back tonight for the chicken sandwich.

Traci T.

Yelp
Love it here! Amazing food for brunch, lunch, and dinner! Added perk is that it's next to an amazing ice cream shop for dessert.

Darrell D.

Yelp
Went here for dinner on a Saturday night because the wife was out of town and the beef sandwich looked really good. It was so good that when I picked the hungry wife up from the train station on Sunday night, I suggested we go here for dinner. She got what she called the best fish and chips she's had in Denver and I had a really good Shepard's pie. Excited to come back again and try more things!
google avatar

Malori H.

Yelp
The abbey tavern is a perfect low key bar with delicious food. We ordered the chicken wrap which was huge and flavorful, and a cup of the green chili which was so spicy and amazing. My husband had the fish and chips which was also really good. Will usually always notice a regular in there and it's for a reason!

Audio T.

Yelp
In town from San Francisco and decided to stop in to watch the Liverpool game with some fellow scouters. had a grilled chicken sandwich. It was really good.

Yelp
Came here with a friend, and it was nice to see the place feeling a little bit more like the pre-pandemic days. We were seated immediately, but it did take a little while for us to get our orders in as it seemed to have been pretty busy. It was fine cause my friend and I were able to just continue chatting - but at some point, you just want to start ordering your food. Eventually, I ordered an appetizer of the blackened fish tacos to go along with a mushroom swiss burger and a side of fries. The tacos were pretty tasty and had a bit of a kick. The burger was okay, as it wasn't particularly special for a burger. All in all, I wouldn't mind coming here again, but something I might not be seeking out intentionally. It's nice that it's right next to Nuggs in case you want to come to the Abbey Tavern for a decent dinner and drinks before dessert.
google avatar

Kyle Z.

Yelp
Had the fish and chips and I couldn't even finish it. (Which was a first, I love fried fish.) It was chewy, flavorless, and the batter slipped off the fish at the first touch. Filled up on fries and coleslaw which were at least edible, if not great, then noped out. Nobody asked how the food was. Maybe their other items are better - they were super busy - but I'm in no rush to find out. Maybe I'll grab another beer there again someday and leave it at that.

Yelp
Great Irish breakfast and musicians play Irish trad sessions on Sunday afternoons. Felt authentic on multiple levels and nice bartender.
google avatar

Frantsy R.

Yelp
Awful. Now I know it's a tavern what do you expect but I was really hoping to find unusually good burger and fish and chips here. The place is super dark and dingy got the BBQ burger and Fish and chips both were overcooked and awful. Also they serve tartar from a packet which the pics did not indicate. If I knew that I wouldn't have gotten like at least make your own tartar. Drinks were watered down and service sub par. Won't venture here again.

Yelp
Great place with a fun lively atmosphere. Great food as well. They had a great little drop in band night the night we were there, it was so fun!
google avatar

Tim W.

Yelp
Service was great. Food was okay! Went for the first time ever excited to get in and sample some good Irish eats and boom...COVID/pandemic menu! I believe I saw 1-3 items at best that represented Irish culture. I do love me a good delicious Irish breakfast but at 7:00pm on a Thursday...doesn't sound too appetizing. That being one of the very few actual authentic dishes on their new or temporary menu. My biggest advice...call and make sure a different menu is being used here and at all establishments before going. Man oh man was I craving a few items off their menu ALL day before arriving and being that it was our first time...to say we left disappointed would be an understatement.

Yelp
EDIT- Response for the owner: If your three best customers are transcending sports and crossing into xenophobia, then that says more about you and your "pub" than anyone else. On Carlsberg: ironically, what prompted this reply to my review, is drinking a Carlsberg in my local Liverpool chapter bar. Does "unavailable in North America" translate to a lack of organization on your end? I'd say it's less of me "complaining about" anything, and more recognizing that 60% of your taps are out of service. Maybe work on that and take criticism? Doesn't seem likely though honestly. "Maybe Liverpool and fun just isn't for you" You're right. I was only born and raised in Liverpool, and have traveled all over the world to watch the team and enjoy the local support....by the way, have you ever been? CIAO!
google avatar

Karin H.

Yelp
I love the location, great for a drink and a scotch egg. Good service, I found the food, tried Fish and Chips and Rueben to be meh. It was expensive fir average food.
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
I went there after going to the Denver Museum of Science. I got the stroganoff which was very tasty. There was a group of musicians playing music on the patio. The staff was fun and attentive. I took my bread pudding home and really enjoyed that too!

Jake B.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast. Forget all we ordered, as we were fairly hungover, but I think it was an Irish breakfast and Irish poached eggs. Everything was outstanding... except for their "breakfast potatoes" which seemed like bulk frozen taters dunked in a deep frier... this place would be PERFECT if they got rid of those and instead just made homefries from scratch on the griddle... but alas, nobody here in Denver seems to know howta cook taters. Drinks were excellent and service was some of the best we've had anywhere. Now that Annie's has closed I think we'll be regulars here. We love this place.
google avatar

Nile P.

Yelp
Get the Scotch egg I dare you! You will be hooked for life. This was the first pub I tried out after moving to park hill and it remains my favorite. The staff is awesome the food is great! The chef makes the food taste like home cooked meals and I'm here for it!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to chill and grab something to eat. Plenty of televisions to watch the games of the day.
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
Yesterday was my first time coming to this spot. I ordered the grilled steak sandwich with side of pork green chili and a couple drinks. The bartender was very friendly and took great care of all the customers while I was there. The steak sandwich was super tasty although the meat was a bit chewy. And the pork green chili was just the right amount of spicy to warm me up as it was snowing yesterday. I will definitely be back next time I'm on that side of town!
google avatar

Yelp
Irish I could eat some more fish & chips!!! This Irish pub has some darn good fried fish & chips- I recommend trying it for less than $14! The fish itself was great (2 pieces) & it sat on a huge bed of French fries. It comes with some cole slaw that was just ok. I also tried: 1. BBQ pork sliders: Pulled pork topped with coleslaw on a warm brioche bun - for under $10 2. Cuban panini: Thinly sliced ham, pulled pork, swiss cheese, pickles and spicy mustard served on a ciabatta bread roll- $11 The panini was my least favorite because it was too carb-y. I was really full off of it after eating just 1/2. The fish & chips was my favorite dish. I think it is their most popular dish. There were 2 piecs of fish on a giant bed of French fries. The sliders were juicy & had some nice acidity & crunch from the pickles. This tavern has an indoor & outdoor dining area and is decorated to look like a real tavern/cave. It is dark inside with a lot of stone and sports decor. There are several TVs inside for sports. They have

Yelp
Nice little neighborhood joint, perfect for meeting up with friends. The atmosphere is open and inviting and the patio is a definite bonus. Abbey Tavern has a very decent drink selection whether you are looking for whiskey, beer or wine. The service was excellent and the food was yummy. I had the Abbey Roll, which was delicious. I would most certainly go back to Abbey Tavern to try out their HH when the weather gets a bit warmer.
google avatar

CJ C.

Yelp
Love, love love the Abbey Tavern! Great hangout spot with awesome food! Just moved to Denver and this is one of our new favorite joints! Great food, great whiskey selection, friendly staff and awesome Irish food! I'll keep adding photos as we try new things! Oh, and home to the Liverpool FC of Denver! And Tuesday night is our staple with $1 tacos! Y'all they are tasty! Who'da thunk an Irish pub could nail such great tacos?! Holy smokes Batman! TRY THE GREEN CHILI FRIES! We (2 people) devoured them they were so good. The perfect heat level! The flavor is amazing! 7/26/18 Tonight, we tried the Carolina ribs (and being BBQ snobs from Texas) they were pleasantly surpringly good! All that is missing is some good Mac and cheese to go with them! 7/28/18 Also, Geeks who Drink on Wednesday nights at 7:30 is awesome!
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
What a nice pub. The scotch eggs were the best I've had. Good job on the lightly battered and well seasoned fish and the fries were probably the best that I have had. The coleslaw could use some work though. Good people, nice bar environment and very good beer selection.
google avatar

Paolo S.

Yelp
I came in for Geeks who Trivia on Tuesdays at 7:30 pm. I came in with quite the appetite so I ordered what the bartender said was one of the most filling items on the menu: The Fried Chicken Sandwhich. I love me some fried chicken sandwiches and this one did not disappoint. The breading was on point not too crispy, the chicken itself was juicy. The brioche bun complimented I'm perfectly and the coleslaw/pickles were the perfect addition to the Sandwhich. It also came with a side of delicious green Chile. Based on this limited sample I was a fan and cannot wait to try their Sheppard's pie and fishxamd chips!
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
I have been tempted to pop by for a while and finally did. We were able to snag a spot on the patio, which was perfect. We were immediately greeted (good sign) and we even got a little lee-way for happy hour. Can't think of a better way to start a dining experience. I heard the food was good. The photos on Yelp looked good. So it was time to be put it to the test. I can't normally resist the idea of an Irish breakfast and this was no exception. When it was all said and done, it past the test. It was really good and it makes me want to try some of the other items on their menu. I also thought they poured a really good Guinness, which you don't always see. That's not to mention they have a decent beer selection including a number from the UK.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
I came here for dinner while staying out in Stapleton. First, they have trivia on Wednesday nights. The host is funny, the questions are amazing....I highly recommend it. They have indoor and outdoor seating, I sat along a window sill overlooking the bar. They had several drink specials one of which was a Pimms cup. It's a refreshing drink that is cucumber based but it's blended with Pimms which is a bit bitter so it all balances out. Perfect on a hot day. I ordered two appetizers, the scotch egg and the corned beef egg rolls. Both were absolutely amazing! The egg was soft boiled and the bright yellow English mustard was perfect! The corned beef egg rolls....imagine a Reuben sandwich without the rye, and the Swiss. That's these rolls. There were amazing. I was so full after my apps, I just enjoyed my night, tried one of their Moscow mules (awesome), and the trivia! I cannot wait to come back and go to town on their Shepard's pie.
google avatar

Jess B.

Yelp
First time here, absolutely amazing service and food! Build your own Bloody Mary bar on Sundays! We will be coming back!
google avatar

Lauren J.

Yelp
This is a solid pub. They always have nice staff and Stella on tap. The pretzel bites are the business, though they are cheap with the cheese. The chicken tenders were a hard pass as they were in fish n chips batter and very greasy. The avocado chicken and cuban panini are awesome. I also love the layout as there is fresh air from the arched windows, so there isn't a bad seat in the place!
google avatar

Alaura H.

Yelp
Delicious! The staff are attentive and friendly but not in your face. Perfect waitstaff. The food is always very good and the bar is clean and comfy. They always have seasonal specials that are delicious. Shepherds Pie was really good as was the salad that came with it. Good size portions. Have been here a few times and will come back!

Yelp
I've been to the Abbey tavern a few times. My last experience there was much better than my first. The first time I went there, I ordered an appetizer (can't remember what it was) but it came with a dip. I only remember the dip because there was a sharp piece of plastic in it. Server was very polite about it and removed the app from the bill. The last time I visited the tavern, I went with some friends and had a great time. Patio seating is lovely on a warm afternoon or in the evening. Great service as always. I opted for a healthier option and ordered the Beet Root Caprese salad. It was plated nicely and the beets were sliced large, tomato, topped with a large slice of mozzarella cheese, a bed of arugula, and pickled onions. You have the option to add protein too. It was a light, healthy, tasty and filling meal. I also ordered the Pimm's cup which is a must try, perfect summer drink with freshly sliced cucumber and lemon to complement any meal.

Yelp
As usual it was a long week. Hubs needed something closer to home, some protein that he might like and to The Abbey Tavern we went. Right after we enter this establishment, we sat ourselves at one of the Booth Seating near to the Bar on the Left Wing of this establishment. That evening was on Thursday evening, April 24th 2014. Time was about 20:30hrs ish. We waited for abit, until our lovely server came to our table to give us the Menu that evening. That evening, our server her name is Katy. Table 2/1. We ordered the following items : * BBQ Chicken Wings ($10.95) * Corn Beef Rueben, sandwiches & fries ($10.95) * Irish Nachos ($8.95) * Coffee and Fountain Coke Cola for Hubs 5 minutes later after ordering, Hubs received his Coffee and Fountain Coke Cola order. As for me, I opt to have water as my beverages. About 15 minutes later, our order arrived. Hubs got his Reuben. We definitely LIKE the Irish Nachos. Even when I am writing this review, I kept on thinking about the Irish Nachos. Man, I wonder what they put on those Nachos, though I cannot deny, the "Potato Chips" that are thinly sliced and FRIED are a little on a "cold" side, to my liking. Throughout the whole evening, Hubs kept on comparing this Irish Nachos with McCoys. Sorry McCoys, coz the Irish Nachos from The Abbey Tavern is WAY BETTER tasting than McCoys. From the Rueben, to the Chicken Wings and the Irish Nachos, Hubs rated everything 3.5 stars 2 stars for the Chicken Wings personally for me, coz its too sweet for my liking. *SAD FACE* Our server periodically come and refill Hubs coffee and make sure we have what we need that evening. All in all decent establishment which is like 20 minutes away from where we live. We also enjoyed ourselves thoroughly that evening, watching the AVS game on the several TV Screens that they are showing. 3.5 stars at best for OVERALL Experience, dining in, and having our late evening Dinner here. We don't mind returning to this establishment coz I am eyeing for another dish for the next visit from the Menu. The Abbey Tavern 5151 E. Yelp
Came here during my visit to Denver and sat at the bar. The three bartenders that were there - Sharon, Diane and Cooper - all made sure I was well attended! Never let my drink finish completely before asking if I wanted another, which I always appreciate. I had the chicken tenders and fries as an appetizer and then the fried chicken sandwich and mashed potatoes as an entree. Both were delicious but the entree was particularly great. Fries + mashed potatoes were well seasoned and cooked. If you want a chill spot to drink, eat good food, and hang out, definitely come here!

Yelp
This place is pretty great. Recently ventured here for lunch and was not disappointed. The service was phenomenal and the food was delectable! They have an awesome specials and happy hour menu and are open for every Liverpool game...even the 530am games. Super stellar. We had the tacos as a lunch special, bbq wings and a cheeseburger. The food came out piping hot and was absolutely delicious. They have a beer of the month that is heavily discounted as well. If you haven't hit this spot, you gotta check it out

Yelp
The Guinness is cold and the Shrimp Boxty Quesadilla is my new favorite thing ever! Definitely coming back my next time in town!...

Yelp
Ice cold beer and the best bartenders! Raina is fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and helped me select several beers which I enjoyed.

Yelp
I'm such a fan of this place. Where else can you roll in the door at 6:25am and grab a coffee, and have your pint of guinness handed to you at exactly 7:00am on the dot, as you're ready to order the Irish Breakfast and watch Liverpool battle whomever they're up against. (Go Reds!) The food is solid, though I've only ever had the brunch personally. I've had friends (good ones, the ones who'd bail you out of jail at 4am) tell me lunch and dinner are spot on as well, but I can't comment specifically myself. I love the atmosphere. Great English pub feel (you know, for us Yanks) with TVs scattered about, and a great patio area that opens up into the dining room so you can see the TVs on match day. Now, for my two favorite things about this place. First, they open to show *every* Liverpool game, regardless of time. They are THE Liverpool bar in Denver, so if you're an LFC fan, this is your place. The Abbey Tavern has been instrumental in my progression to the type that loves "proper football". Hockey will always be my first love, and you'll always find me on the golf course on the weekends, but there's something about getting up groggy and hungover and disheveled at 6am on a Saturday to venture across town to The Abbey for a 'Pool game. It's a great community and camaraderie, and The Abbey is a great place for it. Second, the staff. I've had a few soccer-related experiences here, and they range from "There were literally 6 people in the entire bar, including the bartender and the cook" to "I'm glad we got here 45 minutes before the match because we actually, somehow, got the last seats inside the damn building". I've received the same level of quick & super-friendly service in both scenarios. Everyone is friendly and happy and fast as can be. I've rarely gone more than 5-6 minutes without a beer in my hand, even when the place is packed to the gills and and everyone is ordering celebratory pints after 'Pool sunk a tying goal vs. Man City. I think my only gripe is that the TVs are pretty small. Space and aesthetics over the bar are certainly a consideration, though I think that it would be beneficial to increase the sizes a bit for a better viewing experience. Even sitting right at the bar they feel a little undersized. Say, when do The Reds play again? I need an Irish breakfast.

Yelp
I love this bar! Best Guinness in Denver, hands down. Raina is an excellent bartender. If you want some good food and good beer check this place out!

Yelp
I've been to this place several times. The food has always been very good. (I can recommend the Shepard's pie) The interior is dark and the seating is not very comfortable but the service was good. The beer is beer. It's a respectable local dive if you like that kind of place.

Yelp
I can only judge this place on atmosphere, service, beer and an app. We had a dinner date down the street but after trying the app & smelling the kitchen we wished we were eating here. The service was great and we loved the vibe of the place although it was a little dark inside. The server loaned us a flashlight to read the menu which needed a new battery, it was very funny. We had pretzel bites which came with a beer cheese sauce and a mustard sauce. It was delicious! The two sauces mixed together is the key. We were early enough for the end of happy hour so the beers were $4 each and the app about $7. One of the things we liked most about the place was that although it was an Irish pub, you can actually hear each other speak!!
