Where To Eat and Drink in Summit County, Colorado

"Après — and its solid list of craft cocktails and craft beer — is just the place to begin or end the evening. Grab a table and a board game, order a perfectly made Vieux Carré or beer flight, and settle in for a serious game of Scrabble or Apples To Apples. The only drawback is that aside from popcorn, there’s no food on site. Remedy that situation by bringing in your own." - Amanda Faison

Google
The Absinthe Bar was better than we could have expected. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable with the featured cocktails and very friendly, made us feel right at home. She gave some great recommendations and offered great banter. Cocktails were fantastic--maybe I am an absinthe fan now?! The vide was speakeasy-esc with low lighting and good music. Definitely worth checking out!

Google
Drinks were awesome and Lisa was a phenomenal bartender. They had a dartboard, best cocktails we had in Breck and a delicious espresso martini. Absinthe was a really fun experience. They also had a cool selection of board games!

Cameron Baseley

Google
The absinthe cocktails were delicious! However, the service was far from. We only saw our server once the entire night and had to go up to the bar for most of it. The crowd can get rowdy as it gets later, so if you just want a drink or so I’d recommend between 5-7!

This place was a pleasant surprise at the end of a meal, actually. The first time amy of us had absinthe in a way absinthe was supposed to be experienced. They were pretty bare for being just before ski season starts, but is slowly filled in the later the night moved on. They got a nice selection of a few cocktails as well, for those not brave enough to try it straight... I was not brave enough to try it straight. There is a strong licorice flavored note to absinthe. So, if that's not your jam, you may not enjoy the bar. Otherwise, very intimate little shindig. Props to Grace for helping us through that whole night.

Google
Absinthe from all over the world ready to enjoy. The care into presentation of the drinks really made it a whole experience not just a drink.

Google
We enjoyed our evening at Swiss Haven and the Absinthe bar. Hans ( or Hanz) was excellent! He sat with us, explained how to mix the absinthe and which to try how much water and sugar to use.. And even made sure we tried it in its natural form right out of the bottle. Not a fan of black licorice but once mixed it was drinkable. My husband and I shared one pour (about a shot and a half worth) and that was more than enough for the both of us! The cheese fondue was amazing we scrapped the pot clean! Thank you for your great service! We highly recommend!

Google
Drinks here are expensive and not that amazing, to be honest. They're just generic "absinthe" drinks that feel taken out from an all inclusive resort from México. The only thing that made us stay here was the long wait to another restaurant and the cold weather. 2/5

Google
Pretty interesting spot. Never had absinthe the proper way. They serve beer, wine, cocktail, and food as well so don't let the name fool you. It is overpriced and it is a tourist trap, but there are a few locals as well. There is a dart board as well. Use cautiously 😉

Yelp
Definitely had this on my radar way before arriving. The Absinthe drink though at $28 was a bit pricey, but you pay for the show which in theory is a bartender melting a sugar cube. Still i enjoyed the drink and the bartender knowledge. If you have two, the green fairy will get you too.

Yelp
I'm not a big bar person these days but this was a pretty cool bar. In fact, my group liked it so much for our bachelorette party that we returned for a second visit in the same night after deciding we liked it more than the other spots we checked out. At this point in the night, I was done drinking but my friends seemed to enjoy their drinks quite a bit here. I liked that it was actually quiet enough to have a conversation without screaming. We also enjoyed drawing on the chalkboard walls.

Yelp
I stumbled into this place after seeing a cute little sign for an absinthe bar in the basement of a restaurant. It should have been opened earlier but the owner of the restaurant said the manager got caught in weather and would be a little late to open. However, he was happy to accommodate us in the restaurant and serve any of the absinthe bar menu. The drinks were pricey but its about the show. After a bit of help picking out what to order I ended up with a peppermint drink and my husband had a classic anise flavored one. If you've never had an absinthe drink its about the process. You have a water tap that drinks ice water directly into your drink. Then a sugar cube is lit on fire on a slotted spoon type utensil and causes the sugar to carnalized and fall into your drink. Then you can add as much water as needed to dilute your drink to taste. Would recommend the experience!

Yelp
Super cool bar in Breckenridge with many options for absinthe they also have a full bar if you don't like it. Service was decently quick considering there was only one bartender. Wasn't too crowded but there were a decent amount of people. Cool vibes as well.
google avatar

Savanna R.

Yelp
This bar isn't it. There were multiple random people behind the bar pouring their own drinks? (They were not staff and made that clear) Heavy EDM music - if you don't like EDM you will not like the vibes

Yelp
I really enjoy this spot! I stumbled upon it years ago when I saw a sign in the window of the swiss restaurant above. Go around the corner and down the stairs and you'll enter the dimly lit, moody feeling, Absinthe Bar. While it's not a speak-easy, it does have that type of vibe. Don't worry, if absinthe isn't your thing, they serve awesome cocktails made with various spirits. Although, I highly recommend perusing the absinthe menu and trying it out. The staff were super knowledgeable about the different kinds of absinthe and were able to help me choose one to my liking. They set up the entire absinthe dripper ("brouilleur") set. which allows ice-cold water to slowly drop over a sugar cube to dilute the drink to it's cloudy state. This is the traditional way to consume absinthe! One time I came in, the staff at the bar were playing the Labyrinth movie, which made the whole experience fun and a bit trippy after a few drinks!

Yelp
Best cocktails in Breckenridge! Have a great selection of Absinth too. Bartender duo are on the top of their game!

Yelp
This was our first time entering and Absinthe Bar - when you enter you will go down a dark wooden stairwell. The bar has a casual - low key - moody vibe. The drink master was very helpful and helped us a pick a drink that was amazing! I had the Herbsainte and the anise flavor was forward and wonderful.

Yelp
Let me preface I spend most my time going out of my way to write good reviews for spots I visit and never the bad. That being said, I just cannot express enough while I normally do not think twice about spending 40$ on whatever catches my eye, the two drinks I bought here were the my worst spent 40 dollars in a long time. I've been to absinthe bars in Europe, primarily my visits to Prague, and I always love the experience and unique concoctions you get and was looking forward to trying this place out when I saw the sign. I kept my expectations metered since this is an absinthe bar in a small mountain town in Colorado but I have to agree with a lot of the other negative comments I have since read. Agreeing with the other reviews, the inside is run down and sparsely decorated. What they do have looks like they got from free offerings on the side of the road. The staff almost seemed bothered to turn away from their friends to serve other customers so it took an extended time to get attention to get a drink order in, not to mention the making of the drinks took forever. When our drinks were finally brought to us the bartender was nice, but mentioned they didn't have some Ingredients that were needed for the drink so he winged it. (Not something you should hear when you're spending 20$ on a specific drink). Overall, this is quite literally the last place in Breck I will return to. I think they have a niche brand they could do a lot with, but unfortunately they have really missed the bar.

Yelp
If you're looking for a cool place to grab a drink, I would definitely recommend this bar. The prices are not expensive. The ambience is absolutely kick ass and the service is top notch in this downstairs speakeasy style bar. It is next to the fondue place that is upstairs , you'll see the signs pointing how to get to the bar , it's not rocket science . There's a few chairs, a bar of course , and some hightop tables, the server was great! I think she had hurt her ankle or something but she was a trooper and busted her butt serving everybody and handing out smiles along with the drinks. It's a very laid-back place. You don't have to get dressed up or anything. I'll be back for sure. No snobbery or pretentiousness in this place and that's what makes me glad I grabbed a drink here. Everything was aces !

Yelp
Google says they're open until 2am every day. Yelp says they're open until 2am every day. THEIR DOOR'S SIGNAGE says they're open until 2am every day. We walk in at 10pm on a Thursday night "Hey guys we're closed." No explanation, no tact. Cool.

Yelp
This place has such potential and it was really sad to walk in to an otherwise beautiful place to see crass things written all over the walls, chalk drawings of genitalia, and Mickey Mouse giving people the finger. The service was trash. The kid working behind the bar was hanging out with his friends and bragging about how people don't come in for hours at a time so he sleeps on the couches there. We had to approach the bar after making eye contact several times to pay as he couldn't pull himself from his conversation. Also the drink was watered down because the person working the bar didn't know how to serve absinthe. The location is fantastic for an absinthe bar and with some love this place I'm sure could thrive. But a classy absinthe bar, this is not. For 25$ a drink, I wouldn't recommend it.
google avatar

Yelp
Staff friendly and nice. Love the ambience. Absinthe was tripppyyyy and I feel good.
google avatar

Jill S.

Yelp
This is a *great* place. Service is awesome, ambiance is great with good lighting and tons of space, presentation of the absinthe is really cool, and they have lots of other drinks on the menu if absinthe isn't your thing. Can't wait to go back!

Randy D.

Yelp
Wish I could leave a big fat zero. Rudest bartenders ever and really poor drinks. Place constantly blasts awful music and they are too cheap to pay for Spotify so as you sit there you also get blasted with commercials at full volume. What a joke. This place is complete amateur hour. 100% skip this dump.

Yelp
Damn good absinthe bar in the basement under Swiss Haven. Good variety of absinthes (mostly US brands - so don't expect high thujone levels). Great variety of absinthe mixed drinks, and they also made several credible Green Beasts (after I gave them the recipe)! Best of all; the Chronic Shots - with absinthe and vodka and who knows what else! These were so fantastic that my tee-totaller wife enjoyed more than one! We're going back again tonight, if that tells you anything!
google avatar

Kimberly Y.

Yelp
Our bartender was super helpful in letting us know about absinthe. It was our first time trying real absinthe so we were grateful for the info. Luckily, we shared one order and it was a great experience. From start to finish, we had fantastic service and great absinthe. Really cool and unique place in Breckenridge to visit, highly recommended for adventurous drinkers!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Service was VERY slow. For the whole bar there is one server who is also the bartender for 5 socially distanced tables which in a normal bar capacity would be fine but the drinks for what they should be with the description and price are not worth it. We got three "martinis" which were served in rocks glasses on ice. When we ordered and 4th cocktail the server/bartender had "never heard of" and it took substantially longer and arrived 10+min later than the three "martinis"

Tassiana S.

Yelp
Walked in @10pm and the server said they were closed, door sign says open until 2am everyday. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Yelp
If you like Absinthe, this is the place. You can get domestic, Swiss, Czech or French styles. French Jade 1901 and the Swiss Kubler (creamy) were my favorites. They bar service was phenomenal. It's a bit divey. For me this only added to the experience. It's clean. If you're wondering where it iS....you have to go into the Swiss Fondue restaurant and go doWnstairs. Loved this place! Will definitely retUrn.
google avatar

Mr. Creosote X.

Yelp
Kinda divey in a good way, in the basement of the Swiss restaurant. Outstanding collection of absinthes from all over, properly serviced. Typical spirits and beers available too.

lauren w.

Yelp
Nice dive bar feel. Toni put on a great presentation and walked us through all the ways to drink absinthe. Only drawback it was quite expensive for just 6 drinks.

Caitlin M.

Yelp
The service was good but their absinthe cocktails are watered down absinthe without the mixers they advertise. There was no brut champagne in my cocktail but instead sour mix?? No carbonation was present and it was a $25 drink. The "absinthe shots" they serve were also either not actually absinthe or cut with water and I'm overall underwhelmed and disappointed with my drinks there. It seemed like if you ordered a regular absinthe service they did it correctly but be warned you are paying the bottle price per drink.
google avatar

Nat B.

Yelp
We stopped in here to get away from the crowds of other bars but found a quaint little place with a great Belgian beer selection served up proper. I'll be coming back here again for sure. Bartenders were friendly and kept us for another round because we just enjoyed their company. My fave place on this trip.

Yelp
HADLEY is the cornerstone of Breckinridge, and she needs a raise. Her knowledge of absinthe and amazing service while working with a broken foot absolutely astonished us. We will be back even we don't really like absinthe.

Kimberly H.

Yelp
Hadley was great! She had good recommendations, was fun, and accommodating. Definitely check this place out!

Yelp
Amazing experience! First time in Breckenridge so I felt it a must to stop in here. Anita is very knowledgeable, nice fun and polite and made our experience top notch. I tried the cinnamon absinthe - I believe and it was superb. The only thing is Anita fair warmed us on the potency of the absinthe that I only had 1. It definitely gave me a body high to the point that our walk in -8 degree weather bearable. However, I could have had more than one because it wasn't very strong to me. I know she was just being pre-cautious but she's loosing out on money haha. We had a great time and we will come back next Breckenridge trip!
google avatar

Christy U.

Yelp
Smaller than I thought but still had a great time. Fantastic absinthe experience! Knowledgeable bar staff!
google avatar

Keana U.

Yelp
Walked into this place thinking we would get some good deals since their menu states HH prices all night. Our drinks were $12 each! We ordered the onion soup and the Mac and cheese and it was such a disappointment. I did like the soup but the portion for to go was less than desirable. The Mac and cheese was not creamy or very cheesy at all. We only got two drink, onion soup and Mac and cheese and it set us over $60 with too which I noticed was at 18% and up. Sorry to say but never going back.
google avatar

Yelp
Totally cool experience. Lovin' the green fairy Vieux carre is very good Meadow of love nice - a fav Tennyson interesting but high gin jade, 1901 incredible! Knowledgable staff, alfonzo the owner super groovy. Good bites, novelty experience. Wide selection. Very enjoyable way to pass a mellow night with good friends sit at bar and don't look behind ya;)
google avatar

April R.

Yelp
This place was really cool! We were visiting Breck on our year long trip around the US, and found Absinthe on Yelp. When we walked in, we weren't sure where to sit, and a friendly voice yelled over from the bar that we could sit anywhere we wanted. She (sorry, I forgot her name!), came over, sat down and explained everything we needed to know about the experience and absinthe. She gave us some time to decide on what we wanted, and then brought over the whole set up. She sat with us and explained the whole process, and then left us to enjoy! Though I'm not a huge fan of the fennel flavor, I really enjoyed the absinthe flavor and experience! If you want to follow our travels, feel free to check out my blog at www.tandaintheusofa.com!

Yelp
Super experience at the Absinthe Bar on Main. If you are into spirits check This place out. Very knowledgeable and the history and background of the drink is well explained. We sampled versions from 3 regions. The presentation is excellent as they dilute the pours slowly with drips of water over a sugar cube to bring out the final flavors. Enjoy

Yelp
While enjoying a night out on the town we randomly saw a sign for an absinthe bar and having never been to one, we decided to venture on in. They are in a basement type hole-in-the-wall under Swiss Haven right off Main Street. They offer a ton of variety of different absinthe cocktails as well as beer choices. So many options that it can be intimidating so don't be afraid to ask for someone to help you navigate through the menu. The bartender was very knowledgeable when giving us some background on absinthe especially with it being our first time. And my best advice, be careful on the absinthe shots. The bouncer gave us the heads up that one shot is equivalent to 6 mini beers but it was well worth the experience. Unfortunately, there was only one bartender working on a Saturday night which is the reason behind the three stars. The security/bouncer was more attentive to us more than the bartender, unfortunately. He helped clear off the previous guests empty beer bottles that were left behind and wiped down the table for us as well helping to make sure we enjoyed our first absinthe experience. Nonetheless, i am very excited to take more friends here in the future knowing a place like this exists.

Yelp
I am not a absinth expert or anything close to it but I really enjoyed this place. One you don't normally see absinth type bars advertised and operating in the states, so this place is a rare gem especially as it is in a smaller town. Two the times I've had absinth before it is only good when made properly which of course in me and my buddy's case, fit the bill. Third the bartenders were both chill while serving the drinks and offered up expert opinions on what type of drink may best fit your fancy. The time before when I had absinth in Berlin I had experienced a rather similar method of operations. The absinth is lit for a bit to caramelize, the cube is dipped in the absinth and again lit to allow the sugary complex to caramelize. Lastly iced water drips over the cubes to slowly dissolve this wonderful mixture. There may be an additional step but eh.. remember I am no expert. Either way your left with this aqua colored licorice flavored and highly intoxicating (not to mention the altitude or that it is flammable) beverage. This place represents the absinth world and should be visited that's if your bold enough to try something new!

Yelp
My friend and I have been wanting to try this place for a long time - so glad we finally got to! What an eclectic little gem hidden right in the middle of the Breckenridge Main Street. We walked in to find a cozy, comfortable, hole-in-the-wall type place with slight speakeasy vibes (exactly what you want in an absinthe bar). We then seated ourselves and looked at the menu and wow - they have so many options! And I mean SO many. Innumerable different types of absinthe listed by country of origin all with approachable little descriptions. I wasn't expecting to be so impressed, but this place is the real McCoy. Very focused on their specialty and a great place to enjoy absinthe, no matter what your tastes are. They also are committed to preparing it the old fashioned way with sugar and silver spoons and the water-dripping-contraptions (no idea what they're called, but it definitely adds some authenticity and theatrics to the experience!). Additionally, it's worth mentioning that while absinthe is clearly their focus, they also have non-absinthe options like you'd find at regular bars and some food, so don't be scared away if you're not a fan of the green fairy! Would recommend and am very excited to take more friends here in the future!

Yelp
We saw an ad for Absinthe Bar in a magazine at our hotel and were super excited to try it out! We got there around 10 on Saturday night and the place was dark and dead, but we decided to stay. We ordered two Koruna drinks (20$ each) and did not like them, however the presentation was nice. I also did not like that the people next to us were talking negatively of my boyfriend and I to the bartender. They also made a comment about our *assumed* age - "what are they 21?" (we are 24 and 25) I'm sorry, last time I checked 21 year olds are allowed in bars! We had such a great dinner beforehand and this totally killed our vibe. It was an uncomfortable experience all around. We didn't even finish our drinks before we asked for the bill and left!
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! The staff is so friendly and knowledgable - We sat and talked about Absinthe with the bartender for a good 30 minutes. My husband and I had such a good experience here, we can't wait to drive up from Denver again so we can try the restaurant upstairs. Definitely a must if you're in the Breckenridge area, and in our case, even if you're not!!
google avatar

Christen M.

Yelp
Loud party music and inattentive bartenders. My SO is a true Cajun and his favorite cocktail is a sazerac--they do a poor job of them here. Ratio of rye was off and it was served with a lemon wedge instead of lemon peel. If you're looking for craft cocktails--don't come here.
google avatar

Lily M.

Yelp
It's been a few years since I've been to Absinthe Bar, but it is definitely a unique bar being that they serve absinthe. It's not only fun to watch the bartenders make the drinks, but the atmosphere is very laid back and chill. We sat at the small bar when we came here and had a nice night ordering drinks and receiving good service from the workers. If you're ever in the mood for a little something different, this is the spot.
google avatar

Morgan J.

Yelp
This is such a cool place but they have some major issues. Service was super slow. When hubby finally got his rum & coke it had zero alcohol. Next he asked for a double and it was still pretty weak- so we fear they are watering down the liquor. Another in our group ordered an Absinthe and she didn't like it. When she explained this to server he said "yeah I don't like that one either" and wandered off - not a great resolution.

Joshua P.

Yelp
Fantastic staff and great drink selection that is very unique to Colorado. This is only the second time I've have Absinthe in my life but this was a far better experience. Ian was extremely knowledgeable and had everything in a neat and orderly place at the bar. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Sydni S.

Yelp
This place is a gem tucked away on Main St. It isn't completely crowded like many of the other bars here in Breck, and of course, the reason to visit is their huge selection of absinthe. They also have a some craft beers on draft if you're not a fan of the absinthe. Personally, this was my first time trying the stuff. Naturally, being new to absinthe, I had a lot of questions. Thankfully, the bartender had a lot of information to give. She was very knowledgable on all types of absinthe and even gave us a great history lesson on the stuff. Overall, it was a great experience with great service. Not to mention I left feeling great! God Bless the Green Fairy!
google avatar

Kris S.

Yelp
Much love for this place. The Absinthe selection was phenomenal and their regular drinks were great, too. Recommend the sazerac. Swiss Haven, the restaurant directly above, supplies the food. It was terrific!! I needed gluten free options and the owner went out of his way to accommodate me. And the food was fantastic! I highly recommend Swiss Haven. The jungfrau sausage was very flavorful with a bright finish. The vegetable medley was perfectly done with the right amount of white wine, garlic and olive oil.
google avatar

Bill N.

Yelp
Short review but the place is very cool. Matt was very knowledgeable and attentive. Absinthe was interesting to try out; they have plenty of other stuff too so I highly recommend!
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
What a great place. I had always wondered about the myths and stories about absinthe. This came as a recommendation from a bartender while driving up to Breck from Denver. We were greeted by Dustin, a laid back looking, very polite guy. He answered all of our questions and was very patient. He made several recommendations which were greatly appreciated. The drinks were amazing, despite the fact that they were pricey. We would return if in the area.
google avatar

Alejandro C.

Yelp
Wish I could do no stars...Mediocre at best. A group of 10 and I decided to hit this spot for something different and fun. We sure got different...Bar only had one customer which seamed like the bartenders boyfriend. Bartender was extremly rude and it looked like we crashed her bar date. Again...the bar was empty. I used to be in the industry and I would be more than trilled to have customer walk in to my empty bar. Very uncomfortable experience, we left our drinks almost full that's how uncomfortable we felt.
google avatar

Cate L.

Yelp
My first time trying Absinthe was a total success due to Jill's knowledge and service skills. She explained each variety in depth and helped us make the best choice! Thanks Jill! The bar was great!
google avatar

Nancy R.

Yelp
I want to go back so badly! I tried Absinthe many years ago and the bartender helped me find that exact kind; which is really appreciate. I only had a shot of something green refreshing and delicious and it got me into a really chill mood. Don't expect anything fancy, in fact it's more like a dive bar with no lights, but it's worth the whole experiencez
