The Best Restaurants in St. John’s, Newfoundland | Eater Montreal

"While the Adelaide Oyster House is known for shucking the best oysters from across the continent (and more recently an uptick in Newfoundland’s own bivalves), the reverence for its tacos is what made it one of the most popular eateries in St. John’s. The tuna taco and fish taco are worthy of your time, as are Kobe beef lettuce wraps with Japanese “mac” sauce, kimchi, and rice puffs (which have been on the menu since day one). Expect a trendy ambience: the lights are low, and the music is loud, while the space is laden with dark clapboard and wood tables." - Gabby Peyton

A pleasant surprise & a treat to one’s palette. Variety of Asian fusion flavours bursting in the mouth, which makes it unique from the rest of the surrounding restaurants. Great quality & selection of Oysters & the spicy tuna sticky rice, kobe beef lettuce wrap & korean fried chicken is a must to try. The afternoon non alcoholic drinks are amazing as well to relax. A fabulous team of bar tenders, waitresses always smiling, interactive & engage well. Overall a pleasant experience twice in a row will bring us back for the third time in just 7days trip. If you are around Water Street, St. Johns you must swing by & try the mouth watering delights. Cheers to “The Adelaide Oyster House Team” keep up with your unique flavours & twists with huge smiles & laughter.

One of our go to spots for drinks and oysters! We always take our friends who visit us here before a night out. Their drinks and appetizers are amazing but tend to be smaller in portion. The servers are attentive and comes by often. Their burger battle entry this year is delicious and worth a top 3 spot (they need to make it a permanent item on their menu). They also have specials on oysters every now and then.

Google
By far the best oysters I’ve had any where in the world.. nothing compares to the oysters you can find here vs the US. Small bar vibe, friendly staff, fun atmosphere. Easy to become a regular here, especially on 1/2 marg Monday. I love everything on their menu.

Google
We absolutely loved it here! We came yesterday and there was a DJ—such a great vibe, we ended up dancing and hanging out for hours. It was an amazing time! We had such a blast, we came back again today! Huge shoutout to Brandon, Paddy, and Nick—they worked so hard and made the most delicious drinks. Can’t wait to come back for another 10/10 experience. Love you guys!

Google
Not sure how this place doesn't have a 5-star rating — this was hands down the best meal we’ve had in St. John’s so far. The vibe is awesome: loud, busy, great playlist, and just buzzing with energy. The staff are young, clearly love being there, and bring this fun, laid-back energy (think Alberta hockey players with backwards caps and tattoos casually shucking oysters and making cocktails at an upscale spot — somehow it totally works). Service here was actually amazing — which, to be honest, hasn’t been the norm on this trip. Our server was super knowledgeable, friendly (but not too much), and on top of everything. You could tell everyone was hustling hard, from the front of house to the kitchen. Now, the food... wow. Everything is meant to be shared, and dishes come out as they’re ready, which kept things flowing nicely. We had the local oysters (the best I’ve ever had!) with this sweet-and-spicy berry hot sauce, pork belly dumplings, garlic noodles, tuna crispy rice, and the cod bites — each one better than the last. Honestly, it felt like food you’d see on a cooking show. Bold flavors, creative twists, and really well presented. It’s definitely on the pricier side, especially with three cocktails each and a 25% tip (they earned it), but we left feeling like it was totally worth it. There weren’t any tables on OpenTable, but we walked in around 5:30 and got seated right away. On the way out, we even got to thank the kitchen and chat with the chef at the bar, who was in having supper himself, which was such a cool touch. Bottom line: if you love great food, a fun atmosphere, and solid service — go. If you're in a rush, on a budget, or looking for a quiet night… maybe not the spot. 😂

Google
Had my very first oyster today!! Which then lead to 18 more because it was SO GOOD! The atmosphere is awesome and so are the fine folks working here. Cannot wait to come back! I recommend their Kimchi Oyster Caesar and Shuckers Special 🥰✨

Google
Came here off recommendations as a family, absolute mistake. Service was terrible, which they did not apologize or take responsibility for, rather they defended themselves as “understaffed” and “I normally work behind the bar not as a server”. From an operations standpoint, if you are understaffed, you should also limit the amount of tables served that night. At a minimum, you need to let people know so they don’t bother to wait 30 minutes for a table and then until they give up for food. Restaurants with proper etiquette will let you know before sitting down that it will take a long time for food to come out. In terms of the food itself, being from Toronto, this was the worst asian fusion I have ever tried. No complex flavours, just a single note of way too sweet or spicy with nothing else. The tacos were good, but also be prepared to wait over an hour for them to make. The oysters were shucked in a way that they managed to lose all the liquid from them. 1. Forgot to give us plates and utensils until we were done our first dish. Never refilled our waters. 2. Waited 90 minutes and the majority of our order was still MIA. By then, we decided to give up. Gave them a list of the food we didn’t get, and they still ended up not listening and billing us for missing plates. I had to ask to review the bill to find out, our server was just going right ahead and charging us for missing plates. 3. The server literally pressed 18% tip himself and then passed it over for us to confirm. Where is the character in that? Probably check with them before lining up that they’re not “understaffed” that day first.

Google
Really good oysters. The service with the oysters was fantastic. The guy came out and explained what each Choice was gave us a little background made the experience even better. Our server forgot that we ordered the brussels sprouts good thing. It wasn’t on the bill. We did really enjoy the oysters in the atmosphere.

Yelp
My absolute favourite place to go. The food never disappoints (small sharing plates) My go to favs are: - Fish Taco - Oysters (obviously) $2.50 shucks on Tuesdays - Kimchi - Garlic Ramen - Brussel Sprouts - All the cocktails

Greg E.

Yelp
What a nice vibe and pleasant atmosphere! The oysters are fresh and delicious! Had their tacos which were also delicious, a must try!! Staff was also very friendly and polite as well. I will be back for sure!

Yelp
Oysters were delicious. Service was fantastic. We tried several dishes and everything was very good. Place is small with a great vibe. One of the best espresso martinis I've had.

Yelp
Went to Adelaide Oyster House on Sunday with a friend and had THE BEST TIME. The restaurant has a great vibe and the staff are lovely. We ordered a margarita and cucumber gin cocktail (I forget the name) which were refreshing and to go with our order of oyster. The oysters were fresh and the sauces were yummy. We each ordered a taco (seared tuna and carnita) which were a good size and very flavourful. We also shared the full sesame peanut noodles which was also a big portion. It was tasty and slightly spicy with some great toppings. We ended the evening with two aperol spritzes which were very strong (in a good way!!). We forgot to order the churros that we saw at the table next to us but will be ordering those next time we find ourselves in St Johns. Highly recommend

Yelp
Food , service , ambiance ON point!!! If you're lucky enough to get a reservation..... GO!! You won't be disappointed!! While you're at it buy a round for the place and just watch how the servers light it up!!!

Yelp
Menu selection from our bartender was perfect. Individual service. Sat at the bar and had a great time. Will go back and try the oysters.

Yelp
I just had the best meal I've had in St. John's yet! This place was hopping on a Sunday night when nowhere else on Water Street was. I walked by and thought to myself, if there are so many people inside, I have to give it a try on my last night in the city. I walked in and was seated by a nice server at a table in the back of the restaurant. I was by myself but wanted a table rather than to sit at the bar where I usually do. The plates here are tapas style and all seemed to have an asian flare about them. I was given a water as soon as I sat down and ordered the "Sweater Weather Sangria." Apparently the bartenders take pride in changing up their cocktails which is so refreshing. So this sangria was for the fall/winter seasons I am assuming. It was very tasty and came with a cinnamon stick in it. Being alone, I didn't get to try as many dishes as I would have if I had come with someone else. I ordered the guacamole and chips as well as the pork belly noodles. Both dishes were delicious but the star was the pork belly noodles. I am someone who appreciates when flavors are bold and balanced and I can firmly say that this place knows what they are doing when it comes to flavorful dishes. I asked to see a dessert menu just out of curiosity but discovered that they usually have one dessert a night. If I had room for it after my incredibly tasty meal, I would have most definitely ordered it. The total bill for my cocktail and two dishes was about $50, which may seem expensive for the portions but I believe it was worth it for the quality of food. The main thing I noticed about the restaurant and it's staff is that they all seemed to be having a good time. It seemed like a family that worked together rather than a staff who were working somewhere they didn't want to be. I will definitely return to Adelaide Oyster House when I come back to St. John's!

Yelp
Excellent food and attentive service - super tasty oysters and other small plates. Nice atmosphere with good music. Very good! A+++
google avatar

William R.

Yelp
The food was pretty good but the music was so loud we had to yell just to have a conversation. And the music volume seemed geared to please the waitstaff rather than consider that guests might want to talk over their meal. In other words, this was a bar -- although it is advertised as a restaurant. And, even in fall 2022 with covid, it didn't feel right that tables where 10 cm apart from each other given the need to yell to have a conversation.

Yelp
This small spot on Water Street has affordable meals with a unique focus on funny oyster options. We were seated in the back and got the menu and meals served quickly. The menu wasn't too large but everything on it was super affordable. We were told of the oyster special, $2.50 each for some PEI oysters, and I ordered three. The sauces that came with them made them extra worth the try. I ordered a Pork Belly Noodles ($17) which was a small but filling dish. It came with two slices of pork belly with a hefty amount of moodles, some crunchy and others layered with a nice finer honey sauce. There was also a side of pickled cucumbers and mixed diced vegetables thrown into the mix. The food is affordable and tastes good. The inside is nice and the service is pretty sweet. Only recommendation maybe is a bit tastier entrees. I was happy with my meal but it didn't wow me. Strong 4/5 and would be happy to take a date here for an affordable night out.

Chris C.

Yelp
Ate there many times. Food, drinks and service is fantastic! Highly recommend the crispy fish tacos. The music is loud but it makes for a great party atmosphere.
google avatar

Maru C.

Yelp
Only came here for oysters. Had the "Shucker's Special" which was amazing! Also had a tuna taco--the best fish taco (not fried!)--and I live in Texas!! It is loud so if that's a problem for you, find another restaurant. I enjoyed it though.
google avatar

Winnie C.

Yelp
I probably sound like an idot by saying I loved this place cuz our bartender is a really hot aussie guy...On top of that, he was also really attentive - I told him that my gf was pregnant so he made her a delicious non alcoholic drink. Extra point! We got there kinda late on a Sunday night do the kitchen was already closed. So we ordered oysters on the half shell. They are not local oysters but tasted really fresh and flavorful. The price was a little steep but well worth it. I ordered a drink similar to Pina Colada which was a bomb. The ambient of the place is hip and sexy. Will def go back if I'm ever back in town again.
google avatar

Candace K.

Yelp
This place is unreal. The atmosphere, the service, the food - all of it. Standout favorite was the Kobe Beef, but thoroughly loved every single dish we had. This includes the original tuna taco, the crispy fish taco, the ceviche, brussels sprouts, sashimi, pork belly, and dessert. It was my first time there, and can't wait to go back!

Robin C.

Yelp
A great spot for cocktails and small bites. The offerings beside oysters are quite limited but executed very well.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best restaurants I've been to! The place was slammed on a Monday night and all you could hear was Awesomely bad music (think Brittany Spears, Will Smith etc). My husband had this milkshake beer and he loved it! I had the Lonely hearts club drink and it was perfectly balanced. The black pepper lingers! The oysters were fabulous and so fresh! The mignonettes were perfectly seasoned and full of vinegar flavor. The house made cocktail space was super flavorful too. My husband and I tried the Korean lettuce wraps. They have the perfect amount of heat and sweet and the Mac sauce is the bomb. The Mexican corn was so Smokey and covered in deliciousness. I wanted to lick the bowl! We also had the Tuna ceviche. That hint of Serrano lingered and was perfect with the delicate nature of the tuna. I didn't taste truffle's in the popcorn, but very tasty. One of the people in the restaurant bought everyone a round of shots! Bonus! Outstanding food and great service! You need to eat here!

Yelp
Absolutely avoid this restaurant if you want to retain your hearing - they deliberately keep their music deafeningly loud (management has a sticker in the stereo that says DO NOT TURN VOLUME DOWN). It's hard to fathom why, although our waitress yelled at us that it's "kind of their thing" to be so loud. People had to get up and leave the restaurant while we were there because the noise forced them out. Upon first sitting down we had to request new water due to chunks of something dark floating around amongst the ice. We then ordered drinks and struggled to communicate about our food orders before first asking the waitress to turn the music down to a reasonable level. She said that she would look into it, but nothing came of it. We couldn't talk as a table, so we basically sat there with our fingers in our ears until our first food dish arrived. We then asked the waitress again to turn the volume down, and she said management didn't want that to happen. At that stage we threatened to cancel our orders and leave if they didn't help us save our eardrums - at which point the staff finally turned the volume down slightly. Then the truly insulting thing happened - at this bar they do the typical "ring the bell" thing when someone buys the kitchen a round of beers - but their staff took this to a new level. They made as much noise as they possibly could for at least 30 seconds while staring at our table to try to intimidate us and drive home the point that they were actually trying to damage our hearing. It was amazing, I've never seen anything like it! And the funny part was this - we didn't actually see anyone buy the staff a round of drinks, and no kitchen staff had a drink at the time. It seems that the employees did that just to attack us, which is unbelievably disrespectful. After that spectacle the manager then turned the volume back up to its original level. We got out of there as soon as we possibly could. I've never been to a restaurant with such a desire to ruin their patrons' evening. And it's unfortunate too, because we would've ordered far more food and drinks had this place just respected our wishes and our safety. We left hungry and extremely upset. And to be clear, we were a group of young people who regularly frequent concerts and bars, and not just a group of old fogies looking for something to complain about. If you choose to go here, I suggest that you immediately request that the staff needs to make the environment safe. Maybe if everyone does this they'll get the point? That said, the way the staff acted towards us should be a lesson to everyone - do not go here.

Yelp
Best food in the city. Try the Kobe Beef lettuce wrap and oysters for sure. Great atmosphere and awesome staff.

Steve P.

Yelp
Great location, food very good, but we just found the noise level way way to high to enjoy their food..it's fine if your under 30 and love loud noise..we had to leave as soon as we had our apps..but service and food was great..

Heidi B.

Yelp
Favourite fish taco ! Adelaide has extensive offering of excellent craft cocktails and interesting small plates. Great service and fun tunes. Always a great night out !
google avatar

Cat C.

Yelp
Unreal experience sitting at the bar. Oysters being shucked in front of you, drinks being mixed, music pumping... Food was off the charts - oysters were beyond fresh; poke bowl & grilled carrots tried to equal the flavor found in the oysters. 11/10 experience. Also! But the kitchen a round of beers - only $20!
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
The service was great. The music was really loud but the atmosphere is fantastic!!!! If you like quiet though this isn't for you. The food was really good too. The calimari was WOW!!!!! The music is from when I grew up late 80s early 90s.
google avatar

Diego M.

Yelp
Great menu, excellent brews, staff is a little over the top, but friendly and very prompt. The lettuce wraps were my fave .
google avatar

Brandon C.

Yelp
Adelaide Oyster House is a bit of a misnomer. It is more of a southeast Asian- inspired hipster restaurant than an oyster house. They have oysters (4-6 types) that are shucked fresh. However, there is only one shucker, and if there are a few orders ahead of you, you will wait a very long time. 35$ gets a mixed dozen including Black Pearls (BC), Raspberry Points (PEI), Lucky Limes (PEI), etc. Be sure to order oysters as soon as you sit down if you want oysters. Beyond oysters, the food is delicious, spicy, and Asian inspired. The tuna taco, spicy wild salmon bowl, and pork skewers were all delicious. Most items work well for sharing, especially those over 10$. Prices are relatively high compared to portion sizes, yet the food quality is on point. They have a full bar with local draught beers and nice cocktails. Try the cucumber crisp (12$) for a refreshing option.

Keilah L.

Yelp
Very delicious food- had the oysters, tuna taco, Kobe beef, and brussels sprouts. All were awesome. Atmosphere was also great, modern and clearly quite popular (we waited an hour for a table for 4 on a Thursday) but it didn't feel cramped. They don't take reservations for groups less than 6 but they do take your number if they're full and call when a table becomes available. Now to explain the 3 rating. I would have given this place a 5 if they had not miscounted our oysters or had adequately addressed their mistake. We ordered 36 oysters for 100 bucks (ie 2X 18 oysters for 50 bucks) and when they served us the oysters we noticed that they were 7 short. When we mentioned this they did bring an additional plate with the remaining 7 oysters but they weren't overly apologetic (a few extras would have been a nice gesture). Not a large issue in the grand scheme of things but definitely not deserving of a 5.
google avatar

Zachary S.

Yelp
Almost everyone we met this visit included the Adelaide Oyster House as a must try for dinner. Even chefs and servers at other restaurants recommended it. It's easy to see why. It has an exuberant staff, great music, casual decor and good food and drink. It had the largest selection of oysters in town this visit--west coast and east coast. The fish tacos were delicious as were the Kung Pao cod cheeks. I recommend dining at the bar, so you can ask about the oysters being shucked. It's an oyster house, not a fine dining restaurant, but it's the most fun you'll have dining out
google avatar

Gabrielle L.

Yelp
This place is so cute! I love the vibe and all the numerous light bulbs hanging from the ceiling. To drink I started with the Oyster Stout Caesar of course. It was very good! The horseradish added a nice kick to it. The best part though was the oyster on top! I was a bit worried because the resto is very Asian influenced and I'm not usually a fan of Asian fusion but I was pleasantly surprised. Having read the reviews on yelp I knew what I had to get. I had the crispy fish taco and the original tuna taco. Both were very different and I honestly don't know which one was better because they were both delicious! I'm glad I got both. There's only one taco per plate so I definitely recommend getting both tacos . The crispy fish taco had more of a bbq favour to it. It had deep fried cod , avocado, slaw, salsa, smokey adobo, and chipotle mayo. The tuna taco also had avocado and slaw but also had picked red onion, cilantro and baja sauce. The sauce was white and creamy. Both were a bit spicy which I really liked. It was very messy to eat because they really fill up the soft shell. I still felt a bit hungry after though so I ordered a nice light local beer called Iceberg and a bowl of chips with avocado. I thought the latter was a bit expensive ($10) for its size. The guac was in a small bowl and I had like half of the chips left! I think it would be a really cute place to take a date and share a bunch of small plates or get the bigger plates. The pork belly with noodles looked so good and the tuna sashimi as well.

Yelp
We were told to come early or be prepared to wait. Opens at 5. Be here at 4:45. The atmosphere is 12/10. Super friendly (young) staff. Fantastic choice of music. The food was absolutely incredible. The oysters were shucked to perfection. Not a single stone in them. The fish tacos were so well done. Not too greasy. Super fresh. Would recommend this place 1050%. You won't regret it.
google avatar

Jacob H.

Yelp
We were told that the wait wouldn't be that long for our part of three since it was a Sunday night and they only had a half-page-long waitlist -- normally they have two or three pages we were told. After almost half an hour waiting for a table, we came back and asked about the wait again and were told they still had no idea how long it would be, though we were next in line. The lady at the door seemed annoyed that we came back to inquire about the wait a second time. Nearly fifteen minutes later we got a phone call that they were ready for us. After 45 minutes waiting we expected a table but were seated at the bar. We settled in and I ordered a double scotch but was informed that unfortunately there was only half an ounce of what I wanted in the building. We then ordered food. Appetizers were delivered in a timely manner but the three entrees trickled in at ten-minute intervals so the first person was nearly done by the time the last got their meal. Though the overall service was embarrassingly bad, the food at Adelaide was terrific and the bartender serving us was friendly and courteous. I ordered the Aoh Burger with Spicy Fries and was very impressed. Likewise the friends I was with enjoyed their food too.
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Phenomenonal place, conveniently located on Water St. Exceptional selection of oysters and Latin American inspired dishes. The amount of spicy food was surprising for the location but is refreshingly received.
google avatar

Steven N.

Yelp
One of the best hole in the wall restaurants in St John's, if you like creative amazing tasting food then this is a great spot. It's a bit loud but that's the general care free vibe in this small gem. Prices are reasonable too.

Ken M.

Yelp
All I can say is that most restaurants in the world could learn a few things from Adelaide's. They have created an ambiance that is so much fun for all customers. We sat at the bar during our visit and were so impressed by the kindness of the staff. You could tell they were all in sync with one another offering a true welcoming experience, where you felt everyone was a part of the same family! Greg (our bartender) was so exuberant in getting everyone at the bar involved at the bar dancing at their seat or singing too! Music was great, & oysters as fresh as possible! If you do visit, I would recommend buying a round of shots for everyone in the restaurant. I know it may sound more lavish than necessary but for $100 Canadian dollars, it's a not so pricey way to have everyone celebrate a special occasion! You won't regret it!

William A.

Yelp
Amazing Experience Great Food Great People Awesome Music Really Good Drink Menu! A must do when you are in St John's Be sure to order a round of beers for the kitchen. They'll give you a show in appreciation. Thanks for a great dining experience!

Yelp
I have to start off with the quality of food which is phenomenal!! Hands down my favorite place in St. John's for food and ambiance. However, the biggest problem with this place is the fact that they end the regular menu at 945 pm even on weekends and offer this halfassed "late night" menu which has very few items on it. I mean come on guys your place is busy enough and people are willing to wait around until they get in but 9:45 pm is not considered late especially on weekends!!! This is extremely disappointing considering how awesome the place is and how hard it is to get in at reasonable time (and no they dont take reservations unless you're a large group)
google avatar

Joshua W.

Yelp
BEST PLACE FOR TACOS! Also they're cocktails are BEYOND phenomenal. Go there go there go there. I recommend finding things on the menu that everyone wants to share and then splitting the bill evenly because things don't always come out together
google avatar

Myoshia B.

Yelp
Enjoyed everything we ordered: oysters (raw and baked), sweet tamarind wings, pork belly, spicy salmon bowl. We're going back for dinner tomorrow evening.
google avatar

Neil G.

Yelp
On our first night in St. John's we found Adelaide oyster house. The place has a super hip vibe to it, fun music playing and a menu full of plates to share. We started with oysters of course, east coast yummies. On to fish tacos, Brussels sprouts, fried broccoli, pickled olives, guacamole, scallop dish that was amazing and some nice wines to wash it all down with. Loved it all. Great service too!
google avatar

Karan N.

Yelp
Quickly becoming my favourite restaurant in St. John's, Adelaide never disappoints. Cocktails are amazing, best fish tacos in the city and a great overall atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable and the presentation of the food is quite impressive. If you're looking for a fun night out at a cool restaurant, Adelaide is worth checking out.

Rob B.

Yelp
There are no words to express the disappointment of trying to get into a place with your name on the list; having drinks across the street and seeing multiple tables turn while not getting a call--after calling 3 times. I had stopped trying to go as a resident but had people in town that I wanted to bring as I know it is a quality establishment but if you can't turn a 4-top in 3 hours and express no remorse for not accommodating people waiting this long just shows poor customer service. Now paying a $300 bill across the street for what I suspect is sub par. Take a reservation, seriously.

Rhéa K.

Yelp
This restaurant is delish!! We had all of the handheld taco options and they were amazing. The veggie one was a pleasant surprise in flavour but the tuna was the crowd favourite!

Jme S.

Yelp
We didn't even get to taste their food and make a fair review. But all I can say is that this was the most embarrassing moment, a very uncomfortable moment just to have the waitress come to our table to tell me how 'sassy' I was. And walk away.... Without having to listen to my point of her not following the procedure she was enforcing fist. I forgot my picture ID at home and I only had the proof of vaccination and my credit cards, which I thought it would suffice enough ... since I would be opening my phone with my face recognition feature. And show my PDF document with my vaccination and my credit cards. So, understood the point and went home to get my ID. Once back inside the restaurant, she came to check my ID.... So I questioned if she properly checked what she was looking for: matching names on both documents she was asking for. I was furious somehow... thinking why she didn't check to match all names ... did she remember even my first name?... probably not. But she came to our table to tell me she was doing her job and that there's a fine of 500 dollars for not providing the ID and then she went on telling how sassy I was. I was in shocked and furious: we tried to get the attention of the other staff and we were completely ignored. She finally came back to our table and we asked to talk to a manager. She decided to sit next to us to have some sort of conversation. My husband tried to explain to her my point. But still hoping she would bring their manager. Again I explained to her my point and asked her why she didn't follow the procedures properly by matching names on both, the vaccination proof and the picture ID... I thought at this point now that both parties had their say we would try to have a good time and enjoy the food... well, she left ... and we were back to ground zero... we are sitting there for a few long minutes and hoping someone would come to our table. No one came so my husband stood up and went straight to her and the other staff ... she supposedly was giving us some time... some time for what???... like brats misbehaving???... we were hoping that taking to a manager would bring a solution and forget about this whole situation At this point we were in a more uncomfortable situation. Were we ever gonna be served????.... We were extremely excited for our night out. We have decided to try new great places in the city. And so far we have discovered some amazing places. But tonight was the exception, it was the most terrible time. We left this establishment feeling terribly embarrassed for the whole situation. And at the same time very upset for the lack of professionalism from this waitress and management. I don't think we would ever consider coming and try their food, unfortunately....

Yelp
Incredible food, great service and super friendly atmosphere! It's a small venue and can be quite busy, so often there is a wait of 30-60 min for a table until about 8 pm when it starts thinning out slightly. I've been there twice and every food item (oysters , squid, tuna and even Brussels sprouts) were delicious.

Yelp
Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere! I love this place! Very hip, even for a fortysomething like me!

Yelp
Great food but music was always too loud. Hard to have a conversation. But if you are looking for good food, this is a pretty good spot.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service. Humming little place - loud music and small place. So be warned for those looking for a quiet conversation. Food was so good, can't recommend this place enough!

Yelp
A creative, but very limited menu. Very, very noisy!! Service was attentive and overall, outstanding. If you want a full meal, go elsewhere... but bar food was plentiful.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended to me by a few individuals on my flight to Saint John's. They all happened to know Paul, one of the owners, but not each other. I guess he's quite a celebrity. Anyways, I checked it out, and found it to be cozy, especially on a cold, snowy, winter day. There's not much for parking, some meters, and nearby paid lots and parking garages. There's seating available at the bar, and the table. Seating is limited, so reservations are recommended, especially for larger parties. The service was excellent, there were two bartenders, a hostess, and an oyster shucker (fish monger?) all taking care of me. The food was quite tasty as well. I had the pickled squid and the fish taco. I also tried the sober island cocktail oyster. I wasn't a huge fan of the pickled squid, it was the most tender preparation that I had, and creative, but I wasn't sold on the flavor. The fish taco was excellent, and the oyster was sublime. If I had a more extensive per diem, I would have happily dropped $35 on a dozen of them. I can't wait to come back here to try other creations.

Yelp
Great food. Fast service. A bit of a wait to get in on a busy night, which just points again to how good it is. The oysters were fantastic, the corn was amazing, and the big Papi and fries was holy moly amazing especially with that 'Mac' sauce in it. Would go again!

Yelp
There are no straws. Good food. Good drinks. But no straws! My wife asked the server for a straw for her cocktail. But the bar has no straws! Really?! And I had a Caesar. No straw. I don't care much, but wife doesn't feel elegant swigging out of a copper cup.
