15 Best Boutique Hotels in London With Turndown Tea, Lush Gardens, and Rooftop Bars | Condé Nast Traveler

"The vibe: Elite townhouse Location: South Kensington  Top amenties: TVs over the baths in the suite Best for:  Pretending you're in The Crown If you want the full old English vibe, the Adria’s for you. Ring the bell and one of the self-styled butlers will come to open it; check-in is in an armchair by the fireplace in one of the four lounges; and your key is hidden in what looks like a book out of “Harry Potter,” but is actually a specially carved box, its ‘title’ the name of your room. In fact, the 24 rooms are named for quintessential English places or events (in the elevator, you’ll hit the first letter of your room’s name instead of a floor). They’re themed, too—in Queensgate, for example, a giant pop-art-style picture of Queen Elizabeth hangs by the fireplace. While the feel is textbook 19th-century London townhouse, the owners are Qatari—which means opulent amenities, thanks to a $1.2 million renovation completed in 2022. The bathrooms are clad in marble, the beds are modern four-posters, and suites have upper crust Bamford amenities, plus TVs over the baths (as well as top notch showers). There’s no restaurant, but the hotel partners with the likes of Gordon Ramsay and Nobu nearby to provide in-room meals." - Julia Buckley

A truly wonderful stay I absolutely loved my stay at The Adria. The staff were exceptional — genuinely friendly, attentive, and always willing to help. The interior design is simply magical, combining elegance and warmth in every corner. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered to ensure maximum comfort for travelers. It’s one of those rare places where you immediately feel at home. I would gladly return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting London.

A lovely place to stay. Almost feeling like home:-) chill and relaxed. Perfect location in a nice environment. We had to work a bit in our stay an we could sit in a nice room working in quite surroundings with at cup of coffee. Short walk to the Underground and to Royal Albert Hall where we went for a nice concert. We will definitely come back.

Had a wonderful stay at The Adria. Room was quite small, but for two nights was manageable. Breakfast was quite good, and very walkable distance to tube. Would return at a good rate in a larger room.

Unfortunately this hotel has not lived up to expectations. We booked a few rooms on behalf of some clients in April. The rooms were double booked (one on Booking.com and others directly), which we were not aware of.||||The Adria never made any attempt to message us within booking.com to confirm the reservation or to ask us for any details such as check in time. Had we received these messages it would have become apparent that the rooms were booked twice. This is quite standard for any decent hotels now.||||On the day, when guests arrived, nothing was mentioned to anyone checking in. It was not until 2am when I received a call from the check in manager asking if we were coming to the hotel that we were made aware of this error. ||||I called up the hotel the following week explaining the error. While we take responsibility for the initial error, I did ask if it would be possible to have full or partial credit due to the lack of communication for which I asked the Hotel to take some responsibility for. Had they communicated better, it would have avoided this situation. They told us that because they're such a small hotel they wouldn't normally do this, but would escalate it to managers. ||||Unfortunately I have been calling up the hotel a few times a week for the last 3 weeks - no one has called me back or made any attempt to come back which is a real shame. I would really expect a much higher level of care for a high end hotel. I have had one instance similar to this in the past and I was instantly given credit from the hotel. ||||We host music artists from all over the world, but I will certainly not be advising they stay at the Adria again. Even if we were offered just a 50% partial credit it would have left a much better feeling and I would have booked the hotel again. Simply just not taking any responsibility seems very short sighted and is potentially is more costly over time. Still open to changing my position here if I get a more satisfactory response.

The hotel is situated in beautiful Queens Gate, and the interior is stunning in every way. Both the hotel rooms and the lounging areas are beautifully designed and are great for relaxing after a day about town.||The staff personnel were very polite and accommodating. However the miscommunications and sometimes poor attention to detail was somewhat surprising. As a boutique hotel the number of guests is quite limited, which would lead one to think that the guests would be easy for the staff to keep track of.||Two out of three breakfasts there was some issue (as LHW members we were informed that continental breakfast was included in our stay). Day two the hostess informed us, in front of the other guests in the restaurant, that we had no breakfast package. This was sorted out eventually but still an unpleasant disturbance when checked into a five star hotel. Especially in front of the other guests.||When we pointed this out after breakfast, we were informed that we, in fact, were entitled to any item we wanted from the menu as members of LHW, not only the continental. This fact was unfortunately left out from our welcome information. As we were leaving early the next morning we declined anything else from the menu but asked that our continental breakfast would be waiting for us after check out at 7am.||As we arrived for breakfast on the last day, the staff was completely oblivious to our request from the previous day. Luckily we hadn’t ordered anything from the menu apart from the continental breakfast which was easy to prepare.||As we checked out we asked to receive the invoice via email, but it has not yet arrived two days later and we’ve had to contact the hotel in order to try and get it sorted. As we passed by the reception on our way out we were also informed that they had made a mistake in payment and that we had to repeat the process. They also appear to have charged to much for the stay, but without the invoice it is hard to say what caused the error. Hopefully they will send it over soon.||All in all, the experience was not at all what we expected from a five star hotel. Guests pay a premium for attention to detail, unfortunately the breakfast debacles robbed us of much of the relaxing experience.

We had the most absolute perfect experience with The Adria. We were on our anniversary trip and booked one night here via LHW before returning home. They upgraded us to the most stunning suite, and left us welcoming notes and gifts. |Everything was 5-star, from the service from all the staff to the quality of the linens and everything in the room, to the pack to go breakfast they carefully prepared on time for us to take to the airport. |They also made us a great recommendation for dinner.|I just hope I can be back soon.
