We lived at The Alcove for 2 years, so this is my honest review after moving into our new place. Most of my star rating is for the maintenance staff. They’re quick to respond and go above and beyond for requests. Philip and Hillmon are my go-to people.
The apartments in itself are in dire need of an upgrade. While living in the unit, normal wear and tear isn’t addressed (e.g. toilet seat, towel rack, sink cabinet etc.). If you live in a unit that’s in a wooded area, expect a lot of nests, webs, and bugs on the patio area, which became unusable for us. They are working on the aesthetic of the outside, but the real work needs to be done in the apartments. Two words here: popcorn ceilings.
They falsely advertise having an onsite safety officer. Of the two years living here, I have never seen, or been able to get in touch with a safety officer. If someone can prove otherwise, I’d be happy to remove this portion of my review. We had a neighbor in BLDG 26 that would go on drug binges and blast music starting at 1am, and sometimes go until 6 or 7am on a weekday. After multiple complaints to the office, we were just advised to call the police, but no action was ever taken with the tenant, even though they constantly violated leasing terms of quiet hours and continuously disturbed the peace of residents.
Constant turnaround in the office also makes it hard to get consistent information on renewals, transfers, etc. so we just opted to move out. If possible, ask around about pricing, because when we moved in, our rent was $1600/month, while our neighbor were paying $1200 for the same exact layout and sq footage across the hall. The price just couldn’t be justified for me, especially with how “basic” and rundown the apartments are. Ms Merry however, is the “momma” of the complex and makes sure you are heard, and gets your concerns addressed.
I give Alcove 3 out of 5 starts as it’s “just a place to live,” but there isn’t anything spectacular or long-term stay worthy.
