NYC New Restaurant Openings, February 2024 | Eater NY

"I visited The Alderman inside Times Square’s Motto Hotel and saw a menu that includes catfish, sunchokes, and a routine smash burger as part of Renwick Hospitality’s new room-service-adjacent concept." - Emma Orlow

The Alderman is absolutely beautiful and has such a great vibe! We tried several appetizers, and the standout dishes were the pickled veggies and the chicken bites - the chicken bites were hands down the best “chicken nuggets” I’ve ever had. Everything we ordered was superb, and the drinks were just as amazing. A fantastic spot for a night out in NYC! It's also within walking distance to Times Square (if that's your thing).

When I visited the city, my son, who lives in NY, chose The Alderman for dinner, and we loved it. It’s a hotel restaurant, but quite honestly, don’t get deceived by that fact. This place can hold its own against many other restaurants in the area. Our server was amazing. He recommended some dishes and dessert and was always attentive and around. We really liked everything we ordered, but the highlight definitely was the plate of warm cookies. Leave room for it.

Stopped in for a quick happy hour drink and a bite before a Broadway show. Sat at the bar and was treated to exceptional service from Gersi and Mia. The two were excellent bartenders and worked well with each other. Drinks were amazing and the food was wonderful! Will definitely be back.

Food was tiny for the price but tasted okay. Above average fries, the fried mushroom starter was underwhelming though highly recommended. The smoked duck was a treat. The real star of this place is the chubby server who worked night of May 30th and gave my friend a birthday dessert. For him five stars .

Didn’t do my research before coming here. I didn’t know it was a hotel restaurant (shame on me) but picked it because of its location. It is very close to several theaters so it is great for that. Our lunch was good. The healthy cobb was beautifully presented and very tasty but had too much dressing. The burger was good, the person who ordered it didn’t want it on a bun and they were very accommodating and suggested a lettuce bun. I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t click with this restaurant.

Food was wonderful! I had the cauliflower entree which was truly delicious. The star of the night was the watermelon salad which was unbelievable. And the chocolate pudding was top notch. Our waiter, Ethan, did a wonderful job and took amazing care of us. Will definitely be returning. Highly recommend.

Don't let the "hotel restaurant" connection discourage you: The Alderman has excellent food and stellar service, and has become one of our favorite NYC dining spots! It's conveniently located near Times Square and has a pre-theatre menu designed to accommodate Broadway showgoers, so it's perfect for when we want something a little more upscale than the usual pizza/bowl/burger before an evening out. The theatre menu is a $45 (as of my last visit) set that includes starters for the table, an appetizer, entree, and ice cream for dessert. The drink menu offers the usual selection of wines and liquors, as well as a variety of appealing cocktails (including -- especially? -- non-alcoholic ones; my personal favorite is the Jasmine Southside). All the food I've tried here has been good, though admittedly I always order off the theatre menu, so I haven't tried most of the regular dinner offerings. And I cannot say enough good things about the waitstaff! They are always engaging and attentive. I've never had bad service here. The restaurant atmosphere is nice, if a little dim at dinner time (some of my group had to use their phone flashlights to read the fine menu print). It's not exactly a quiet place, but it's not nearly as deafening as most of the pubs in the area. It's possible to have a conversation without shouting across the table. If you are a bread or garlic lover, you MUST try the fresh rolls with whole roasted garlic cloves. They're one of the included starters on the theatre menu, and my group always fights over who gets to eat the last one. :)

The service was incredible! I ordered a Breakfast Sandwich, it was delicious, the portion is perfect so you don't get too full or want more. My server Carolina was very attentive to every detail, she has extensive knowledge of the menu and made an excellent recommendation. At first I wasn't going to stay for lunch but she convinced me that it wouldn't take long and that I could enjoy my breakfast. I accompanied it with a double espresso and I loved it.
