NYC New Restaurant Openings, February 2024 | Eater NY
"I visited The Alderman inside Times Square’s Motto Hotel and saw a menu that includes catfish, sunchokes, and a routine smash burger as part of Renwick Hospitality’s new room-service-adjacent concept." - Emma Orlow
Upcoming Pilsen Restaurant to Feature a Bar With a Speakeasy Vibe | Eater Chicago
"A speakeasy-style cocktail bar housed within Pilsen Yards, the Alderman is separated from the main dining room by built walls, seats about 16 people, and is designed to be intimate — serving intricately prepared cocktails that take longer to mix and that are exclusive to the space (not available to go). Beverage director Lance Bowman, who also worked at Monnie Burke’s, created an 18-cocktail menu that blends classic drinks with seven tea cocktails, including “the Conundrum” (brown butter Woodford Reserve, chai vermouth, Barolo Chinato, amaro vecchio del capo, and bitters). The Alderman aims for a vibe more like Billy Sunday than the Aviary, and music will be a big component, with DJs spinning vinyl on weekends and local musicians performing; the bar is slated to open later in November." - Ashok Selvam
Ok ,so my husband got us reservation for our anniversary. The food was great but the server /waiter we had not do much..first my husband had put in a special request for when we're seated to bring out the drinks he pre - order to surprise me with ,they dropped the ball on that..if they would have read the reversation summary he would have known to bring the drink out for me .plus I asked for ice and lemons .it nevercane ,water was warm .sever was inattentive , the place wasn't even packed for him to forget a simple request like that, third my glass was freaking dirty ,lined with grit inside the glass .omg the only thing that saved my nights was another server he was very nice he went over a beyond …dont know if I will be back

I stay at Motto Times Sq frequently because they have The Alderman and it continues to be outstanding every time. The team consistently makes it feel welcoming and seamless, with particular thanks to Gabriel, Armando and Francis, who always go above and beyond.
The food menu never disappoints — reliably excellent quality and variety — and the cocktails are a real highlight. Gabriel’s mixes in particular are not to be missed; genuinely some of the best you’ll find - he can even cater for custom cocktails (see my pic)!
A consistently high-quality stay with great service, great food, and a team that clearly cares. Highly recommended!!

Love my brunch order. Great salad and potato and steak cuts. And I’m just even more thankful that this is part of Motto. Out of the pane I also got their freshly pressed grapefruit juice at $7 or $9? Either way, loved it!

My parents and I visited The Alderman for the first time on Thanksgiving day. The restaurant offers a set course offering that day, which features traditional American classics such as Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry jelly/sauce, etc.
Our server Ross was very friendly, helpful, and hospitable. We enjoyed our time and experience at this restaurant, and would be down to come back sometime in the future.

Ethan the waiter was amazing! He was attentive to every whim. Food is spectacular and I'm a hard to please New Yorker. Only tiny revision could be the oysters were tiny. But admittedly delish. And half off a bottle of wine on Winesday!!! What a treat!

The Alderman is absolutely beautiful and has such a great vibe! We tried several appetizers, and the standout dishes were the pickled veggies and the chicken bites - the chicken bites were hands down the best “chicken nuggets” I’ve ever had. Everything we ordered was superb, and the drinks were just as amazing. A fantastic spot for a night out in NYC! It's also within walking distance to Times Square (if that's your thing).

I must say we had the loveliest evening. From the moment we walked in, everything felt so warm and welcoming. The manager, Keno, was such a sweet young man. He checked in on us with such sincerity and was just genuinely kind. You can tell he truly cares.
Julio, our server, was an absolute delight. So attentive and polite. He made sure we had everything we needed without us having to ask. And the food was simply delicious beautifully prepared and full of flavor. We enjoyed every bite.

When I visited the city, my son, who lives in NY, chose The Alderman for dinner, and we loved it. It’s a hotel restaurant, but quite honestly, don’t get deceived by that fact. This place can hold its own against many other restaurants in the area.
Our server was amazing. He recommended some dishes and dessert and was always attentive and around. We really liked everything we ordered, but the highlight definitely was the plate of warm cookies. Leave room for it.

Yelp
This is the restaurant located within Motto by Hilton New York Times Square hotel. I've dined here for breakfast twice during two separate stays at the Motto this year. The space is comfortable with a good ambiance. Service is good. Food is excellent. The price is pretty reasonable considering that it's inside a hotel in Manhattan. Only odd thing about them is that the stairs down to the hotel's gym is located inside the restaurant, so there's frequently people in gym cloth walking in and out.

Yelp
"Hidden Oddity"
Not sure I recommend this quirky restaurant that is quite large hidden inside a small door off Times Square and then hidden inside a reception area. Could be a great speakeasy but totally not intentional. I have some mixed feelings about this place and certainly only would consider it in the context of being a red herring in a swamp of ugly ducklings.
What's to Cheer
- cheap happy hour including $50 bottles of wine
- 3-7 pm happy hour
- $1.50 oysters
- $12 cocktails which were decent
- French fries were thin and crispy
- good service
What's to jeer
- overpriced bread that was average $9, HH
- oysters were over peppered and not great
- most dishes too salty
- small portions for most mains
- bad creamed spinach
- dark and empty large room which was odd on a busy Sunday night in Times Square

Yelp
The restaurant is very dark (too dark) and the music with the pounding bass was too loud. I asked if it could be lowered and our waiter said he'd try but the music was controlled by the hotel the restaurant's inside of. The music level was never lowered and because of that, our meal was the opposite of relaxing.
I had the smash burger but it wasn't really a smash burger; it was just a thinner-than-average burger. I couldn't taste any caramelization.
On the positive side -- our waiter was very good.
Noisy, dark, and unimpressive meal. I won't be going back.

Yelp
We were very excited to visit The Alderman, as recommended by a friend. Upon entering, the ambiance was perfect. The server quickly took our order for beverages but the experience went downhill after that. Of particular disappointment were the mains. Service was very choppy and the food mediocre at best. Our beverages were not topped up until after we completed our meal. Dirty plates from starters were not picked up until we asked for them to be picked up. Some of us were missing cutlery and had to wait until our meals were cold to receive them. Water seemed to be a premium. Our server was very aloof and seemed annoyed with us throughout most
of the meal, when she came to our table at all.
Very poor service and mediocre food sums up our experience.

Yelp
These are the best oysters I've ever had! The service was excellent! Alexis, Hersy, & Francis were all amazing bartenders! I would travel from Atlanta to come back and visit anyday!

Yelp
The Alderman is the perfect spot to go to when you are looking for a good meal especially if you have Broadway show to goto right after. Just let the server know in advance. The atmosphere is cosy - it's not a huge restaurant since it's located in the back of a hotel but the tables are spaced out nicely and they can definitely accommodate parties of 7 and more people. If you do have a large party, it would be wise to make a reservation in advance. My friend and I kicked off our meal with the Everything Flatbread and Italian pickles. Just a note - the Flatbread was more like large everything crackers and the Italian pickles are not actual pickles. They are pickled veggies - carrots, peppers etc. Both apps were super tasty. For my main - I got the Crispy Chicken Sando, which was amazing! The chicken was lightly battered and had a nice crispiness - Nothing too overwhelming or oily. My friend got the Branzino and it was delicious. Just a warning, the Branzino is deboned but is served with the head - so for those who are not in the mood to see a fish's head - let the server know when ordering. We also shared the fries which were good and great for sharing since it served in a big bowl. In addition to this yummy meal, our server - Kara / Cara (not sure of the spelling) was an absolute delight. I really enjoyed our experience and will be back again!

Yelp
Slowest service you will ever experience in a dead restaurant. Two mornings in a row since I'm staying at the neighboring hotel (Motto). Most of breakfast included in the room rate and I still wouldn't recommend eating here. Terrible on every level.
