Well I think we went through about four different hotel rooms. Maybe five. Thanks to Bella and Sam who did all they could to accommodate us. They gave us free parking, free breakfast daily and about 40k Bonvoy points. 1. The door knob fell off the closet in the first room. I took it downstairs to the front desk so when I went to get the rest of my things and Bella offered us a new room. We appreciated her and so we took the offer. 2. We got settled into the second room. I found out the heater didn't work. 3. We got settled into the third room and that was fine. The only issues we found were that the sink was leaking and there was a bug or two flying around in there. I ended up getting two bites. We stayed in this room for two nights. Unfortunately the second night the heat didn't work and we had to bring in a radiator heater. The first radiator heater we were given was also broken. Then they gave us another radiator heater. That one didn't really help. The room didn't get much warmer than about 72 to 74° what's on the normal circus? Texas would have been fine except there was a balcony to that room in a very large door that allowed some exchange of the heat and cool hair to mix. 4. We switched to a fourth room and unfortunately there was dog hair all over the floor and on the upholstery. There's no way that they could have cleaned that room. 5. Our fifth room was fine. But by then we were getting ready to leave and we didn't get into that room until about maybe 2:00 in the morning. Also, I agree with another review I saw. The breakfast wasn't that great. The people were awesomely friendly though. Very helpful. The staff gets five stars however everything else needs help.

I took my wife here the day after Christmas for two special days, got a Jacuzzi room. The Jacuzzi was amazing. I loved everything about the room; we even had robes. My wife loved them. We had a balcony overlooking the center of the place, which was really neat. The Hotel had a nice restaurant and cool-looking art. The staff was very friendly, which made us feel welcomed and appreciated, and King St. was a nice place to find anything, making it easy to enjoy our stay. I look forward to another visit. It was very costly but worth every penny, which makes me confident it's a good investment for a memorable stay.

We had a wonderful holiday return stay at The Alexandrian and truly felt right at home. Sam, the general manager, and his entire team go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. Our room was clean, well decorated and comfortable. Chef Victor prepared a wonderful platter of fruits , nuts and cheeses as well as desserts. From the front door to the front desk, the staff is exceptional. We’re already looking forward to our next visit in the spring. If you book this hotel use a parking app and save money. We were able to park in the hotel garage underneath the property. It was nice to be greeted with a welcome bag that included two bottles of water and chocolates. The elevators were small and closed very quickly. We had to rush to the doors or they would close before we got on. Hopefully the timing can be adjusted for anyone who is not standing next to the door that opens first. The room was one of the largest I’ve seen in a historic area and we appreciated the space. For the price it was not as luxurious as one might expect. They seem to be working on some maintenance needs in the lobby and one of our curtains was missing a gold button. Small details, but they add up. It was centrally located for exploring Alexandria.

Nice hotel in Alexandria with easy walk to many nearby restaurants and shops. Comfortable beds. Terrace balcony overlooking quiet courtyard. Convenient garage parking in the basement. We have stayed here several times and would return again.

The entrance being on King St. is fabulous. The front desk staff were very welcoming, quick to help and friendly. The vibe in the main lobby is ultra cozy, spacious and relaxed. The hallways upstairs were very warm and cozy (maybe due to the winter season) basically the vibe downstairs, just upstairs. The room itself was spacious, cozy and comfy. I loved the bathroom body care product line being used. The shower head could be improved, but only because I like a shower that gets to the point after a long day of driving.

I absolutely loved my stay at The Alexandria Old Town! You really can’t beat the location — it’s super close to all the best restaurants, shops, and everything else you’d want to explore in Old Town. The staff truly made the experience. Bella, Nyla, Sam, and Beza were all fantastic — they went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. Even when a couple of small issues came up, the team handled them quickly and efficiently with a smile, which made all the difference. The room itself was spotless and stylish, with thoughtful touches like the Malin & Goetz bath amenities that made it feel extra special. It’s the kind of detail that shows they really care about guest comfort. If you’re visiting Alexandria, I definitely recommend staying here. Great location, great people, and just an all-around awesome vibe!

We didn't experience any issues during our stay but I think 4+ star reviews are being misused. The rooms we a little dated and I'm pretty sure the mattress was old coil spring. The location is amazing near the water, shopping, coffee, and very tasty restaurants. Our room was comfortable but definitely worn out. Decorations were spot on for the history of Alexandria. Would definitely stay again, there just wasn't any standout or special experience here, especially for an "Autograph" series hotel.

It's rare that I can give a business a perfect review, but I can unequivocally say that The Alexandrian Hotel deserves it. Beza, Vanessa, and the wonderful staff are excellent representatives of the establishment. I also appreciated the prime location on King Street, right in the heart of Old Town. The hotel blends colonial charm with modern amenities seamlessly. I arrived during the week of my birthday, and the management surprised me with a charcuterie plate and a bottle of champagne. I can confidently say I will always stay at The Alexandrian Hotel whenever I return to DC.

We stayed 3 nights at the Marriott Autograph Collection in Old Alexandria. We expected a Marriott quality hotel and we did not get it. At check in, we did not get the room we expected (they tried to give us a lame reason like there was a wedding party). we ordered our room MONTHS before there was a wedding party booked, but regardless we accepted the room they assigned us. At checkin we were provided 2 keys and only 1 bottle of water even though there were 2 of us. I had to ask for an extra for my husband. the room was "tired". there was one extremely small window so no natural light in the room at all. there were three lightbulbs not working which I requested replacements but to no avail. there was no air venting in the bathroom, the a/c was VERY noisy and the noise from the outside street was disruptive. there was a chanting group outside the hotel at 2am (not sure what they were chanting) but were quite loud. the restaurant was only so-so. we ate there for breakfast and were disappointed in service and food quality. No amenities AT ALL. Felt very ripped off.

This place is not worth the money that they charge you. First the lounge is so extremely hot you can barely stand there and register for room. The staff literally are sweating with their his baby fan as they hand us warm water bottles. $36 to park overnight? I don't know any hotels that do this. We get to the room there are only sheets no comforter . It's 77 degrees and 2pm it's now 7pm and it's still 77 degrees and no one came to fix our room but they are still demanding all their money. The rooms are not worth what they charge. These people are so extremely lazy. I regret this all. Please pay attention to these rooms. No one has really testify to these reviews in like 2 years plus. This place is not luxury period.

The room smelled musty and moldy. They came and sprayed a deodorizer to remedy the situation. The air conditioning didn't work properly. Security mistakenly banged on our door while we were trying to dress for a wedding. Surprise resort fee. Dirty dates decor. Always empty water dispenser in the lobby along with empty beer bottles. All this and more for a very pricy room rate. Run don't walk away.

The good: -accommodating staff -clean -free evening cocktails -location -plenty of elevators -free water at check in -free loaner umbrellas -nice robes for room use -left plenty of towels and washcloths The not so good: -beds were not comfortable and squeaked with every movement -pillows were lousy

The good: - Great location since it's right near the waterfront. - Rooms were comfortable, good beds and linens. - Bathroom was clean and shower was nice The Bad: - It's right next to the Saturday farmer's market and there's a Saxophone player that starts playing at like 7 AM in the morning. It woke me up bright and early and I did not appreciate it. I really wanted to sleep in but I could not. The sound protection in the windows is really not good so I just got to hear his sax playing for a long time....plus, he only played 4 basic patriotic songs over and over again. - The blinds (see pics) were broken. One didn't go up at all.

I am a huge fan of Marriott hotels, I strive to always stay at them, and Autograph hotels...the pinnacle of excellence and character. Not so at this place. I am ASTONISHED that Marriott puts it's name on this hotel, much less the Autograph badge. When we arrived at 4 PM, one of our rooms was not ready (seriously?) so we were given an accessible room. As long as it didn't prevent someone who needed it from having it, I was fine with it. Except, unless you require accessible or you enjoy your entire bathroom floor being an ocean of shower water, insist on a regular room, y'all. Which brings me to my next huge point of contention---the cleaning crew. Clearly, they were behind the day we checked in. Except- you only get your room serviced when you request it. Excuse me??? What happened to the opposite way, expressing when you DON'T want your room cleaned? OK, fine, I don't need it every day anyway. The first time we asked for it, we came back to the room in the afternoon, the room was clean. We got a call from the front desk asking if it had been. How strange. The next time we requested our room to be cleaned, we returned that night to a room that had not been cleaned. WTF? I have to ask for it AND it doesn't get done. Unacceptable! The amenities feel non-existent here. The restaurant, while good, has the most insane and random hours you can imagine. Catching them open was a feat in itself. The room coffee was abysmal and the lobby was devoid of refreshments of any kind, despite ample space. No vending. Zero breakfast options most days. So- horrific room coffee, no hotel coffee and no lobby coffee. Don't give me the old Covid excuse, either on this. It's been long proven Covid isn't spread through touch. I paid more for this room than for upscale Bed and Breakfasts in high season in Sedona -- and those provide all the coffee and breakfast you could ask for. I'm not asking for the world here, just a decent cup of coffee, a bottle of water and a clean freaking room. Positives - nice location in bustling section of Old Town, but a bit of a longer walk to the metro. Attractive lobby (which was overscented and lacked a doorman). Fast elevators. If you enjoy quality and service below that of a Motel Six, with a high end price tag, this is the hotel for you.

Great location in Alexandria between the water front and chain stores. We walked everywhere easily and Lyfted into DC. D desk staff were very kind. Lovely lobby. Very comfortable and clean. Wonderful polite desk staff. Historic decor. Great location. Could use more power or USB plugs, especially bedside, and perhaps other modernizing touches. The housekeeping on request only wasn't super clear to me. I requested in the morning after three days but they came mid afternoon during a meeting. So be sure to request cleaning early or the day before and maybe add a time window.

Such a disappointing experience, especially for a hotel in the autograph collection. Everything looks nice on the surface with a cute vibe, fun colors and furniture, wallpaper, etc. but if you look past that, this place is filthy. The bathrooms need a thorough cleaning, to include splatters and filth on the back of the doors, toothpaste splatters all over the framing of the mirror, baseboards covered in dust and grime, collections of hair under the sink and in corners. In the bedroom itself, I found splatters on the walls and baseboards, forgotten items from other guests under the chair and desk. It's like the housekeeping crew has been trained to change sheets and towels but not actually wipe anything down, clean the room, or check for evidence of the previous guest visit. If that's the case, then this hotel needs to send in a real cleaning crew regularly to get rid of the filth. I also know that it wasn't just my room because I was with a group and of the several other rooms I saw, they were all like mine. The restaurant and bar is great... when they're actually open. Several times it was closed for private parties and then when it actually is open they close so early that you really can't enjoy a drink from the bar after 10 pm. It's pretty annoying to go out for a nice dinner and come back to your hotel and not be able to get a night cap with your group. There are plenty of other hotels in Alexandria... stay at those.

They lock out all inputs on the TVs to force you to watch nothing but the garbage hotel TV. I left for a Courtyard so I could use my Fire stick

It was right on king street and very convenient and they brought us extra blankets and it was clean and historic. However there was a sound that was keeping me tossing and turning, like some mechanical noise , like something rolling, I think it was the old elevator. I could only hear it when I was trying to sleep. Bring earplugs or drink more

I'm a little surprised by all the negative or lukewarm reviews for this place because we enjoyed an outstanding stay here. From the location to the excellent service, everything was just fine. We spent three days here recently. The start of our journey was rocky, as we made our connecting flight to National but our bags didn't. We didn't have a change of clothes or even our toothbrushes, but the front desk staff gave us oral care supplies and a full set of bathrobes, so that we could at least get out of travel clothes. Throughout our stay, the staff continued to be accommodating of our requests for things such as fresh towels or extra K-cups for the coffee machine. Every time we came through the lobby we were cheerfully greeted by name. As many others have noted, the location really can't be beat. Just a few blocks from dining and waterfront, everything is convenient. A bonus was discovering the Saturday morning farmers market just half a block away. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. What's nice about older hotels such as this is that the walls are thick and the sounds of the neighbors are barely heard. We've recently stayed at much newer Hyatt properties and were kept awake by noises next door. We didn't take advantage of any of the facilities such as the restaurant or the exercise room, so I can't comment on those. The Wi-Fi signal was strong and reliable. Water pressure in the shower was excellent and the bath amenities were nice. An excellent experience from start to finish. We'll certainly stay here again the next time we're in town.

Stayed at this hotel during the town of Alexandrias 274th birthday. Michael and Cheryl were AMAZING and made us feel at home. Can't wait to come back, highly recommend.

The mattress was like sleeping in a fox hole. Buy some new mattresses. The drapes are pulled off the hooks on the ends, so light shines through. For an autograph hotel, this one is pretty disappointing. Stay elsewhere.

I originally liked this place, but after the 2nd time staying, I had enough. The ac unit does not work properly. The biggest issue was the pet friendliness. I'm ok with them permitting animals, but there has to be rules. I had to wake up at 4:30am and my neighbor must've left their dog alone while they went out until 2am. The dog barked the whole time and I did not get any sleep.

Nice hotel, my wife and I were celebrating our 23rd anniversary. We slept very well and will stay again.

This hotel really has one stellar feature, the location. It's right on king street and offers easy access to what is still a fairly vibrant nightlife. Unfortunately that is the bulk of how it earns even 2 stars. Everything else about the hotel is marginal. The beds were not particularly comfortable. The AC unit is in the room and it was loud as was the plumbing. The bathroom is cramped with very little counter space. The single restaurant doesn't open until 5 and there aren't many quality choices for breakfast nearby. On top of all that, they gave someone else the king room we reserved and "upgraded" us to a double and tried to tell us it was an enhanced room. Overall a miss. Should have stayed at the Ritz.

We had a great experience here that needs a shout out. Angie, went above and beyond to help us out of a very frustrating experience with Expedia. I finally had given up with them until Angie stepped in and resolved the issue saving me the cost of an additional night stay plus the additional stress of the Expedia Black Hole. Thanks Angie. Overall great experience. They allow dogs which made our stay in Alexandria stress free. Rooms are updated but you can tell they are older/ smaller but that comes with any old building. We found it charming.only complaint is the bathroom smelled a bit musty, but again just old! Beautiful marble floors though. We had great service from the moment we arrived. No complaints at all. We enjoyed dinner at their restaurant it was amazing!!! The trout and pot roast.. perfect outside dinner with the pup. We will be back! Thanks Alexandrian! Always a great experience with Marriott.

Planning a wedding is stressful but planning a wedding with The Alexandrian is a new level stressful. We have been talking to this venue for a while, probably since April-May and got Chelsea Grim as a sales manager. We had a great impression of her at the beginning, she gave us a tour of the venue twice, one for us and one when family was in town. She seemed to be very nice and gave us good suggestions. By the time we got a draft of the contract, asked questions and discussed all the details, we got close to August. Then in August we asked for updated contract to sign and this is pretty much where the negative experience started and why my review for the place is so low. We have not heard back for 4 weeks from Chelsea. I called The Alexandria many times, most of the time no one picked up the phone at all. I would call Chelsea's line first, then events' team and then the hotel lobby. It is odd for a hotel not to pick up the phone at all. I left voicemails and followed up with emails but still nothing. On a few occasions I was able to get through to other employees and explained that we needed our updated contract to sign and we could not get ahold of Chelsea, they all were saying the same thing, that Chelsea would call us back but still nothing happened. After 4 weeks we finally heard from Chelsea, that she was out of office and then she was busy with the wedding season but she would review our emails and answer the same day. Today is October 25th, 2022 and we still have not heard back from her. Again, I called the venue, she is not picking up and not checking voicemails, we emails events team general email, no response, we emailed another contact we had Amanda Gulley and received probably most unhelpful response that they were busy and soon we would hear more. I reached out to their instagram account as well asking to help to get in touch with Chelsea and that also came to nothing. Overall, I got a very poor impression of the whole team at the Alexandrian Hotel. They are not taking it seriously and they don't respond in a timely manner. It is impossible to get through to them during business hours and after 5pm when I got through to them I was told Chelsea already was out of the office. At this point we have been waiting for 8 weeks for an updated contract to sign and it is unacceptable. Brides and Grooms beware!

Unfortunate decline in cleanliness and service; prior stay, several months ago, was slightly more hospitable. Would NOT recommend for restful and pleasant accommodations. The location and parking are convenient, but the noisy environment and unkempt suites/rooms made my stay regrettable.

The hotel was nice but I can't get over how rude and poor the service was at their restaurant, The King & Rye.

I really enjoyed my stay. It was a quick 1 night stay but very comfortable! I had the room with 1 queen bed. Plenty of room just for me. Everything was extremely clean and well appointed. I loved how they decorated the room.

We recently hosted our daughter's wedding at this hotel, and although the wedding and reception were awesome, little of that had to do with the hotel staff. Two things they did well: quickly flipped the wedding setup to a reception setup, and the food was spectacular. Otherwise, this hotel is a hot mess. o Front Desk personnel were indifferent at best, downright rude at worst o Each room in the room block was to receive 2 welcome boxes upon check-in, and despite 6 separate trips to the front desk for this issue alone, there were still 12 boxes there when I checked out on Sunday, so 6 rooms didn't get their boxes. o Late arriving guest had issues with WiFi, and called the front desk 3 times between 11:00 PM and midnight, letting the phone ring 15 times each time, with no answer. o Guest checked in at noon, went to room, there was no AC, and loose wires were hanging from the thermostat. Front desk said they would call guest when a new room was ready. They never called, guest checked back at 4:00 PM (check in time), room was still not ready. Room finally assigned at 5:15 PM, leaving guest little time to get ready for rehearsal dinner. o Guest booked an accessible room due to disability, was given a regular room. When she returned to the front desk, they "upgraded" her...to a loft suite, which has a flight of stairs (16 steps) to reach the bedroom and bathroom. She returned to the desk again, and had to sit in the lobby for almost an hour while an accessible room was found and assigned to her. o Bride checked into bridal suite on Thursday afternoon, and immediately notified front desk that AC was not working and that room was hot. She was told it would be taken care of, but she had to make 3 more trips to the front desk to have it resolved. The 1st and 2nd times the technician came to the suite, nothing was resolved. The 3rd time he came, he inexplicably turned on the heat, even as the bride told him the problem was with the AC. Issue was finally resolved on the 4th trip, just before rehearsal, by simply adding refrigerant. At every interaction with the front desk trying to resolve this issue, the bride was subjected to rude comments and general disrespect. o Guest called me shortly after checking out on Sunday morning and stated that she had left an item in her room. I went to front desk and asked to either have someone check the room for the bag or if they could give me a key, I would be happy to check myself. Front desk said that she would send housekeeping right up. ~45 minutes later, I went back to the front desk to retrieve the item, & was told that no one had been sent up yet. I stood there to ensure they sent some up. o A guest checked in at noon on Friday, and his TV didn't work. He called the front desk, which never answered the phone, then went downstairs to tell them about it. He was told someone would be up to take a look in 15 minutes. When I asked him about it at 6:00 PM, as we prepared to leave for the rehearsal dinner, he said that no one had been up to the room yet - 7 hours later. I told the front desk that I expected the issue to be fixed by the time returned in three hours, and it was. o Neither the computer nor the printer in the business center was operational, so I had to have the front desk print out my speech/toast for the wedding. o Guests reported bathrooms with hairdryers but no electrical outlets o Shower in the bridal suite never worked correctly; half of the water was running from the spigot and half from the shower head. o My husband and I booked a loft suite for 4 nights, Wednesday night through Sunday morning. The bedroom was so hot that we couldn't sleep in it. My husband slept downstairs on the couch, and I slept in a friend's room who had an extra bed. After telling them the first day and nothing being done, I didn't bring it up again, as I was more concerned that they take care of the bridal suite (our daughter's room). As a result, we spent nearly $1200 for a room in which we couldn't even use the bed to sleep. o In addition to the specific examples above, multiple guests told us the following: They were never able to reach the front desk by phone, regardless of time of day. AC never adequately cooled down their room. Water pressure was terrible. No hot water at all or 10-15 minutes for water to heat up. Front desk personnel were often indifferent or rude, and didn't follow up on guests' requests. Guests who checked in early for whom rooms were not yet ready were told by front desk personnel that they would receive a call when their room was ready; no such calls were made by front desk personnel to guests. In addition to problems with the hotel in general, the event manager, Amanda Gulley, needlessly added to the pre-wedding stress by not communicating, ignoring emails and phones calls when we were within 2 weeks of the wedding, and not telling us that we wouldn't have the full space for the rehearsal because she had booked a dinner.

Came here for a wedding at the venue this past weekend, decided to stay here for convenience. So glad we did. We got an upgrade to a room with a balcony overlooking the courtyard where the wedding was held. The room was chic and clean and they had a Keurig for us to use as well as a fridge. The bathroom was big and had adorable double doors. Didn't have a chance to use the pool or the gym but we walked through and it was very nice. The location was incredible, walking distance to everything in Alexandria, which is the cutest little town, and only a 15 minute Uber to the national mall. Also, the Taco Bell cantina is right across the street so, that's freakin awesome. I'd love to come back for longer than a weekend. The wedding was so quaint as well, super unique having the space in the courtyard. Loved every minute.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It is a complete dump. The room is dusty and dingy. Moreover , housekeeping completely forgot to clean the room. Walked in at 9 pm to a room that had not been serviced. Would never ever stay here again!

I recently stayed here overnight to break up an 11-hour drive. We chose this hotel because it was reasonably priced and but mostly because we were traveling with two dogs. The pet fee is only $25 per pet -- that's probably the cheapest I've seen anywhere. And the room was reasonable too, which I appreciate because parking was like $33... Overall, I enjoyed my stay. The room was spacious and clean, and the hotel in a great location for my first time exploring Alexandria.

This is a lovely hotel. I'm glad we stayed and I'm glad it was short. The on-site parking is an absolute plus. However, when I checked in I was told my rate was one price and when I got my bill it was another. Unreal. At Check jn I was also told "breakfast is completely complimentary" and I said "really? Included at no charge?" And the gentleman at the desk said "yes completely included "- well that was untrue. Not at all. Made reservations and went to eat and they wanted to charge 16$ for eggs. No thanks again. No coffee in lobby. No anything complimentary. I honestly have never seen this before. The only bonus is that the area is great but the hotel left me feeling disappointed. Most hotels have at least a table with hot water and tea in them. The coffee machine in the room was a bust and didn't work. So at this point I don't know how I feel about receiving misinformation about several things during this stay. Staff should be reminded to be clear and honest. And even h The bottled water they put in the room ne t to the ice bucket has a 4$ price tag on it.

If I could give lower score I would. After having a reservation for three weeks and traveling all day across the country for a conference I was told that this hotel decided to move me to another hotel 20 minutes away. I asked for the GM and had to talk with his assistant? Tired and hungry and need to wake up early. Reservations don't seem to matter at the Alexandrian. Will never stay here again and would highly recommend you do not stay here either.

I enjoyed my stay at the Alexandrian. It's a larger version of it's sister hotel, the Morrison House, up the street. It's centrally located on the main street in Old Town meaning you have easy access to every happy hour and restaurant in the neighborhood. Interestingly (and now hidden since the change of ownership a few years back) it is the site of the first Union casualty during the Civil War on May 24, 1861 where Col. Elmer Ephraim Ellsworth, a friend of President Lincoln, was shot and killed instantly storming investigating the raising of a Confederate flag on the top of the (now demolished) Marshall House Inn. I was upgraded to a 1.5 bath bi-loft suite on the top floor. The room was spacious and comfortable with a view of the main street. There were a few corners of the room that needed attention - the sink in the lower bathroom didn't have cold water and the I had to unplug the refrigerator because of the loud racket it was producing in the middle of the night. The included breakfast for elites at Jackson 20 was well worth it. During my week I went through the entire menu. Every menu item was professionally prepared and they really spoiled me.

This is the ceiling in our bathroom, right over the toilet. Looks to have been patched over many, many times. What I hope is Water is dripping down from the upstairs toilet out of the ceiling. I have reported this three times already. I wouldn't mind changing rooms but that wasn't offered. I was told that maintenance would take care of it. The last time was 3 hours ago and maintenance never showed up. We are having to make a towel tent every time we need to pee. Also, the first day it dropped all over the back of my sweater before I felt it. Really Gross!! My daughter was in the elevator stuck for 12 minutes before maintenance finally got it to open. On the plus side R Kelly would probably enjoy standing under the toilet juice from upstairs.

I stayed here my wedding night and was very underwhelmed. We paid for a room with a whirlpool tub, and while the bathroom was nice, the room was mediocre. Only a small window and the sink was broken. They transferred us to a new room the next night, which was MUCH nicer, but the jets in the tub were broken and the bed was half made... they also told us we would get a call when the room was ready, and we had to follow up at 8pm to finally get moved. I know that times are hard right now, but the stay was definitely not worth the price.

The Alexandrian Autograph Collection on King Street in Alexandria, Virginia, has always been a fan favorite of mine when visiting the Washington D.C. area. I've stayed there several times over the last year. Conveniently located in "Old Town Alexandria" everything from specialty shops and restaurants, the waterfront, an old fashion farmers market, coffee shops, etc. are within walking distance of The Alexandrian. My kids especially enjoyed visiting the weekend Farmers Market - apparently one of the oldest in the country. Clean and modern hotel with excellent facilities. Rooms are modern and very comfortable but do not have microwave ovens or coffee makers. Fresh coffee is available, though, in a very modern lobby. Valet parking is expensive - this is my biggest pet peeve. Friendly and polite staff - never an issue with them or an unanswered concern. When I did question the parking and valet fees, the hotel manager credited my account for the fees without complaint. Competitively priced and among the nicest of facilities in Old Town Alexandria, I wouldn't hesitate to return when visiting the area in the future. William E. Lewis Jr. Vero Beach, Florida.

I hosted an Army Strong Bonds Event at the Alexandrian for Soldiers of my Battalion. I was informed the day of the event, while enroute to the venue, that the hotel was cutting the water off until 4 P.M due to essential improvements being made to their water piping system. Had I of been adequately informed with proper advanced notice, prior to contracting this event, I would have chosen another venue for Soldiers to enjoy. Upon arriving to the hotel and checking into my room, a note was slipped under my door informing me that water would be cut off THE NEXT DAY, from 10 A.M - 4 P.M for the same reasons. Do you know how inconvenient and exasperating it is to host a group of 21 people that do not have access to water in a hotel that good money has been paid to lodge them? Let me inform you, they couldn't wash their hands. They couldn't use the bathroom. If they did, they couldn't flush their waste in the toilet. They couldn't take a swim in the pool or workout in the gym and take a quick shower prior to going out and enjoying the town. They couldn't relax in ways you'd expect you'd be able to when you plan a relaxing getaway. Instead of having freedom of plans, their plans ,in a sense, were restricted to their level of comfort with exposing themselves to unsanitary conditions. Some Soldiers shared with me that although they wanted to rest in their rooms in preparation for the evening,they felt forced to leave their rooms and go out until 4 P.M. They did this to maintain sanitary conditions in their rooms, because the majority of Soldiers had roommates. Honestly, who wants to stay in a hotel room with feces that have been marinating for six hours in urine filled toilet water? Who wants to use an unflushed toilet behind their roommate? I'd be concerned about toilet water back splash and not being able to wash my hands after I urinating or defecating. I could not blame them for leaving. My husband and I did the same. Concerns about housekeeping's ability to adequately clean rooms without water were raised. I watched House Keeping spray surfaces, wipe them down and leave. Is this all that is required to sanitize a bathroom? When I asked to speak to someone about compensating my guests for their inconveniences, I was treated like I was begging for freebies. One front desk clerk told me I knew what I was agreeing to when I checked in. I informed him that I had no choice but to check-in because a contract had been signed and I had been notified of the water issues the day of our event. Another representative told me no one else voiced any issues about the water being turned off. She also tried to reason that it had only been off from 10 A.M - 4 P.M, as if it presented no major issues or concerns. Finally, today I was informed that no compensation would be offered. I emailed the general manager ,Ahmad, whose business cards were distributed in the lobby. I never received correspondence from him. My experience of hosting the event here was frustrating because my group, my guest, deserved a better experience. I have facilitated Strong Bonds Events for 8 years. Some venues host our events and are genuinely glad to have our Soldiers as guest. Other venues host our events and simply are glad to have our money. Based on the lack of notice of the water issues, and their unwillingness to acknowledge their improper handling of the issue, it seems like this venue falls into the category of the latter. Perhaps, we chose the right venue to patronize at the wrong time. I don't know. I don't plan on hosting another group event here to test this theory.

I stayed here for one night in a room with two double beds. I think the hotel is very pretty, but needs a little upkeep and repairs. Our room was clean, but it was very hot all night. We tried lowering the temperature on the thermostat, but for some reason it would never got cooler than 73 degrees. Also, I think the bathroom needs some TLC. I pulled up on the knob to turn on the shower, and the spigot almost pulled off! I shared that with the front desk and they were planning to report it. I do have to give props to the people at the front desk. They were very attentive and nice. Also, the Jackson 20 bar/restaurant attached to the hotel was great (especially the bartenders). I guess for the price in Alexandria, it was an okay place to stay for a night, but I'd probably look elsewhere if I was staying in Old Town again. It is in a good location.

A lovely hotel but with many problems. Hot cider in the lobby but peeling paint in the elevator (lead?), shabby old carpet and construction going on on several floors, Beautiful courtyard view with the sunset beyond at the end of the day but one of the bathroom door handles broke off in my hand (!). But the reason for the one star is one of the employees injured me!!! I was trying to get into the airport shuttle at 2:15 and was told by the front desk it had already left. However, when I went out the front door it was right in front. I walked to the passenger door of the van and the concierge did not open the door for me so I opened it for myself. There was tons of space in side since there was only a woman and girl who looked to be 10 years old to me in the passenger compartment. "No!" said a voice from behind me. It was a man in the hotel's uniform who I had seen in the hotel. He had walked up behind me and was standing with a hand nearly on my right elbow, "you, you go in here!" He ushered me in to the front compartment next to the driver. I thought that was strange, even the woman in the passenger compartment said "there is plenty of room" and the girl had moved from the seat by the door to make space for me. I got in and laughed off my discomfort saying outloud, "this will make me feel as though I am driving" There is a step inside the car for help step up into the set and I stepped on it with my right foot, quickly swung my body around to put my left foot into the well in front of the seat. But, as I sat down and started to pull my right foot up and forward into the well, the hotel worker slammed the door!! ON MY FOOT!! My right foot was caught between the door and the step and folded lengthwise slightly in a painful way I hope to never experience again. I said, "Ow!" and opened the door and pulled my foot in. The driver was incredibly rude. He said nothing and, when he dropped me off the the airport, yelled at me and pointed at the gate I was to enter. I was confused, since I was on the phone when he yelled at me, so he yelled and pointed, again. I ended up opening the door, limping out and going into the airport to find someone who could direct me. My foot hurt a bit at first and then seemed fine but got worse the next day and worse the day after that. I contacted the hotel and reported this. Then went to the doctor the next day and learned it was sprained. The hotel told me they would contact me but, NOTHING. crickets!! Just silence. It has been weeks, now. I am left wondering why the hotel treated me, a paying guest so badly. It is and was shocking. And my foot still hurts. I am on Motrin every day. The pain is bad enough to restrict my training for the 5 k I had hoped to run this week and has impact my other activities. My doctor tells me it could be like this for 6 weeks or more. Hence, one star. If I could give negative stars I would.

Whoa. Came in for a drink. Ran out. Smelled weird. Used glassware all over the lobby. There was a toilet brush in a Tupperware on the bathroom counter in the restroom 2nd time I have tried to give this place some biz. They obviously don't care. Neither should we.

I was at the Alexandrian for a wedding last weekend. The hotel was in a location that was really perfect. Unfortunately the story goes down a little here, we had 2 rooms which when we booked we asked that they were close together and near an elevator. They were right across the hall from each other. When we checked in the gentleman gave us our keys.....turns out they were mixed up and only half of them worked. I walked my parents into their room and with a Queen or King bed the room seemed a little tight. My room had 2 doubles and was pretty roomy. However upon entering my room I noticed it was quite warm. I went to call the front desk because the thermostat could not be adjusted and I found out the phone did not work either. I went to my parents room to call the front desk and they said they would send someone up. Waited about a half hour and nobody came up. We went down to the desk to fix the issues with keys and I asked if I could talk to someone about problems I was encountering in my room and the same gentleman who checked us in said what are the problems? I said my phone isn't working. I have no a/c. He said you are on the list for our engineers. I asked how long? He said I have no idea. I said if you are talking an hour it's fine but if you are talking 4 hours I have to go out tonight and I need air conditioning. He said I'm going to move you but you won't be close to your parents anymore ( he didn't say it in the nicest way) when I went upstairs to move my luggage to the new room I saw this same nice hotel employee who I saw earlier. I said you aren't an engineer by any chance? He said yes! I explained my issue and he said give me 5 minutes and I will check out your issues. This engineer was named RANDY and he was EXCEPTIONAL!!! He was friendly when he passed us earlier in the hallway when struggling with our keys. He came in my room replaced battery in thermostat then proceeded to fix phone issue. We called front desk to see if I could now stay in my original room the nice lady Wendy said no problem and I returned the keys to the room they were going to move me to. Oh I forgot to mention when I got into my room the trash cans were full of trash! So now finally settled after grabbing lunch I return to the room and take a relaxing hot bath. About 45 minutes after the bath I was sitting at desk in room and a hotel employee comes busting through the door. I was shocked!! No knock, nothing. He doesn't explain anything just says sorry and goes. The next day I find that same guy and a lady from housekeeping outside my door and they ask me if I want my room serviced? Of course!! The Alexandrian is lucky to have RANDY!! He was the bright spot in an otherwise chaotic experience.

Avoid. First, they had my reservation dates wrong. After much drama and many calls, they corrected it --but not on my Marriott Rewards Account. "We can't because we are sold out," they said. Then the day of my reservation they called twice pleading with me to cancel. Really. The room was cold. No heat above 68 degrees. Finally, after two days, I figured out that if you moved the setting to "emergency heat", you might get some. Also, there are no coffee makers in the room but they will bring one up if you complain. Room was clean and quiet. Food at conference great. Fun and bargain priced happy hour. Great location with a CVS cross the street and a Starbucks 2 blocks away. But too much drama for an upscale property. I have never been more annoyed an exasperated as I was with this hotel.

Poor customer service when we checked in the valet did not wanted to park the car. When we went to the room it smelled like marijuana and two of the lights where not working plus a dirty towel was hanging from the water sprinklers in the bathroom after I brought the problem to janine asel. The manager in the front desk her answer was we're all booked you can leave the hotel if you want. A really sad and horrible experience I would never stay here no matter what. Staff is rude and unprofessional and the rooms are just horrendous.

We were booked with their sister property, Morrison House (see that review), but our reservations were moved here. We didn't choose this place because we liked the Morrison house better, but anyway... We arrived early (I think around 1:00) and attempted to check in early (check in time is at 4:00). We figured since we were Marriott members and since we were inconvenienced by the reservation change, that it wouldn't be a problem. NOPE. The front desk took our information and said that they'd call when the room was ready. So, we went out, had lunch and some drinks, etc. and came back. Not ready yet. Chilled at the hotel bar for a bit. Ready yet? Nope! Here's two drink tickets for you, try back again in a little while. Welp, it's 5:00 now. Surely the room is ready? Noooooo! But here's some points for your rewards account. Wth! It wasn't until my wife said we'd be going somewhere else that the room was ready. Ridiculous! The room was cute. At first. We realized the next morning that there were really gross stains on the comforter and sheets. The window shade wouldn't raise or lower, so it was like we were in a cave. And the BATHROOM SHOWER omg. The tile was so disgusting. It needed bleaching so, so badly. So we waited forever for a room we didn't even want in the first place, and then it was sub-par. Won't be going back there!

Brought my daughter for a treat to celebrate her grades. When we arrived the first interaction I noticed was between the clerk at the front desk and another employee. The gentleman at the desk asked the other employee if he'd helped the valet. The employee literally raised his finger at the clerk and smirked and said "I'm still busy and I'll get to it". It was the tone and body language that completely turned me off and I wasn't even a part of the interaction. Once in the room: the headboard was ripped and the bathrobe in the closet was dirty around the neck. Across the hall was the maintenance closet and I am not sure what was going on at 830pm but it sounded like they were moving furniture and yelling at one another. The noise (talking and tv and music) in next room was super loud-had to call front desk for help. It took awhile but they finally called and the room occupants did quiet down. Talking in the hallways was very loud and continuous and I know hotels have no control but it just added to my disappointment. I expected a lot more from a Marriott. I won't come back. There are more options in the area that satisfy the need.

We found this to be an excellent hotel for the value. I like the Autograph brand as they are usually vintage sites and unique. Room was clean and comfortable. Service was spectacular. Excellent staff Breakfast was overpriced but as to be expected in any metropolitan hotel and there are a host of places in walking distance to start the morning off with. Great location right on king street. Parking garage is tight and over night is a bit expensive however also to be expected in such locales.

Hotel was clean and staff was very nice. Only reason this is getting 3 stars is because of the parking. When we checked in they told us to park in the garage. We knew it was 32$ a day. No issue there. The issue was you get a ticket when you enter the garage. When you leave it says to pay for ticket. So we did that on Friday night when we left to go to a wedding. It was 32$ so didn't think anything about it. When we came back we got another ticket. When we checked out we had two nights of parking on our bill. No one told us that you press the call attendant button and don't pay the ticket they will buzz you out. So we paid an extra $32 in parking when we didn't have to and no apology or refund on that. Kind of disappointed in the staff not informing us about this during check in.

Came with my hubby for a friends wedding and requested early check in for the king standard that we booked. Room wasn't ready when we arrived for our early checkin and we were told it'd be another 2 hours. Due to the wedding rehearsal time and needing to get ready, they offered a downgrade to a queen but then charged the same as the larger King. There were no complimentary amenities, not even the Wifi or a coffeemaker in the room. The restaurant is overpriced for the quality of food. Self park was over $30 a night which is outrageous and seems to have been increased recently, based on past reviews. Our headboard was peeling and we ran out of hot water the first morning 5 minutes into my shower. I'm not too sure how they justify the room rates as the money certainly doesn't go towards their guests' experience.

I'm impressed with their customer service and for a wonderful stay! We are definitely staying here again!

I travel for work about 50% of the time and I normally stay at autograph collection hotels, I have stayed at the Alexandrian probably 7 times, I won't ever be staying here again. Yesterday I was sitting on the bed after coming in from work, as the sun shined through the room the entire room was filled with dust and skin particles to the likes I have never seen, every movement I made it got worse, it was so bad and unclean that I kept the patio door open my entire stay. I checked the vent and it had not been changed in in what looked like years. The maid didn't come by my second day and I had to go down to ask for them to please bring towels which wasn't such a big deal but the worst part of my stay is that when I went down to ask for more bottled water because the maid didn't come by and bring it, the woman working the front desk away more than rude, told me I would need an ID to put the water on my room. I had seen her no less than 10x over my stay and she all acknowledged that and laughed at me. I didn't have my wallet so I went back upstairs to get it and when I came down she was even ruder, she snatched my ID out of my hand and wrote all of my information down, she slowly handed me my ID and extended her arm as if to give it to me only to snatch it back and tel me she was going to lay my I'd down and she preferred I didn't take it from her. She asked my room number three separate times and reminded me that the water was $6.00 no less than four times during the interaction. Bottom line is of the 25 autograph collections I have stayed in this is by far the most unclean and has the rudest staff I have ever encountered at any hotel. Save your Money and go to the Morrison House up the way. Also the housekeeping showed up at 8 Am the second morning to knock profusely at the door and entered the room while I was still sleeping. This place is an absolute nightmare.

This is a very nice hotel in the heart of Alexandria. The rooms are very nice and the hotel has nice feel to it. The fitness area is small but functional. Overall a good experience and will be back. There are great bars and restaurants nearby. Can't go wrong with the location.

7/19/19 - Third time here. I'm happy in my room, relaxing from a travel day. Check-in was a breeze & I got the room requested !
