From the moment we arrived, The Almanett Hotel exceeded every expectation. The boutique charm, combined with top-notch hospitality, made our stay both relaxing and memorable. The Della room was beautifully appointed with modern amenities and stunning views — the perfect blend of comfort and elegance. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, offering personalized service with genuine Southern hospitality. One of the highlights was dining at the bistro restaurant downstairs. The food was absolutely delicious, and the sunset view over the Gulf made the experience unforgettable. Whether you’re in town for a romantic getaway, business, or just some much-needed rest, The Almanett is the perfect place. We can’t wait to return!

Was there for a surprise birthday celebration. My 1st drink was like soda water, but was fine once they changed it. According to the other guests at the table, the mixed drinks was seriously watered down. The food took a long time to come out, but once it did everything was great. The atmosphere was great.

My second stay at the hotel. However the service left a lot to be desired. We waited 15 plus minutes before someone helped us. Check in itself took over 15 minutes too as they had nothing prepared. What I loved in my first trip was the genuine warmth I felt from the host and staff. That was sorely missing. I felt like an unwelcome guest at someone’s nice house. Rooms are great, location is nice but the magic was not there.

My sister and I wanted to have brunch and wanted to try something quite and different. We heard about the Almanett Hotel & Bistro. First off we were greeted once the door open with a smile and warm welcome. The gumbo was superb. Trevor our server was amazing and tentative. The manager Shay was so passionate about the items on the menu taken her time telling us about each menu and Trevor patiently waited as we made our choice. I went with a cup of seafood gumbo in the cat fish and shrimp plate With the greens and jambalaya as my sides. The food taste just as good as it looks. We will definitely be coming back for the great service and great food.

The Almanett Hotel & Bistro is an outstanding Black-owned establishment located on Gulfport Beach. Although I did not stay at the hotel, nor visit the rooms, from the service I received in the bar restaurant. I can only imagine that it is five star thus my rating. My visit to the area was truly enjoyable. It was a fortunate coincidence that led me to discover this restaurant and hotel combination. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly greeted by the friendly staff member, Q. I was able to take advantage of their Happy Hour specials, which I found to offer some of the best cocktails — crafted with quality liquor, not inexpensive substitutes — both in taste and value. I want to emphasize the quality and affordability of their drinks. The only limitation is that Happy Hour is available only on Fridays. Fortunately, I was in town on a Friday, 😊. The event concluded with a lively DJ. Guests were on the dance floor, enjoying themselves, laughing, and having a great time. I was even reminded of Home, encountering two men in their 60s and 70s chasing every tail that they saw. And found out that it is a regular action for them as they believe that they are high commodities because they’ve left the area and came back. What an enjoyable time. It was inspiring to see a Black-owned business thriving, beautifully decorated with pictures of other blacks on the walls and a welcoming atmosphere, complemented by excellent service. I highly recommend this establishment. If I return to the area, it will certainly be a favorite stop. I also want to mention the gumbo, which was flavorful and unique. The addition of a battered fried shrimp added a rich texture and creaminess, making it even more enjoyable. I encourage all visitors—regardless of background—to check out this place. But I emphasize you visiting if you are black/ African American. I recommend visiting this establishment, which is known for its catfish, particularly catfish. The product quality is excellent. While I anticipated a slightly larger portion, overall, the experience was very enjoyable.

Google
This is a special place, definitely my favorite stay in the Gulf. Simple but welcoming rooms with a nice balcony. It is especially nice to walk downstairs in the evenings where you find yourself in an upscale bar -restaurant and wonder if your attire needs an upgrade. The food is superb, atmosphere delightful, personalities unforgettable. Nice dark cozy place to have a bourbon. Location is excellent - easy walk to beach for swimming or sailing.

I love staying at this hotel it's amazing! the staff is so nice! They are extremely sweet especially the cleaning couple and Tasha and Angel and Polky and the place is extremely clean. The beds are super comfortable your views amazing it's nice and quiet. No loud people or neighbors and you can walk to the beach if you wanted to it's not far. it is our favorite place to go on our anniversary trips. The food is amazing downstairs if you stay here you will not regret it

Yelp
This was a random lunch stop while passing through Mississippi, and they ended up having the best fried catfish I've ever tried. Our server, Forrest, was great as well.

Yelp
I have to say it's really nice to know the story about the house, really touching and I love how they make a family treasure available for visitors and also they are so nice and welcoming but in general I dont know if it's worth the price. It's a clean beautiful stay, the bathrooms are neat!thanks for that but little details like the ocean view is just a little sight between the houses in front, the continental breakfast it's actually its definition, some donuts, some fruits, juice and coffee. Try to ask the wifi password when u get there cause the guys are always around but theres not a front desk so u have to go down and find them to ask them and the reception is horrible (please put a little sign with the pass!) Also the toilet paper was almost gone (could be replaced before welcoming us)and the Kleenex box had just one..the one that was showing hehe. Some spoons for the coffee table in the room and the breakfast area as well. It's the little things what tell us paying more is worth it. I say is more a bed and breakfast than a boutique hotel. . If u are staying for long and want an area to fix or reheat food it's clear on the website :doesnt have kitchenettes..so check that out. Thanks for the hospitality

Yelp
There was nothing overwhelming about my chicken and waffles, but it was tasty! Though empty, the atmosphere was nice. I'd like to go back during a night with music. The reason for four stars: My mimosa was mostly orange juice.

Yelp
After a long drive we decided to stay at Almanett Hotel before heading to New Orleans. We're so glad we did! We were greeted with a warm welcome by Micheal who showed us around and made sure we had everything for a great stay. Our room the Lottie was large with a double sided fireplace and large bathroom. We can't wait to return and stay longer. We loved our stay.

Yelp
Do not trust this place with your stay in Gulf port. I recently tried to book thru Airbnb they had their price set at $169 for a Thursday to Sunday stay. The host took 20 hours to respond to my request then proceed to tell me that "Airbnb" didn't update their prices. Which I am sure he really means "He didn't up his prices. Cause he sure did after our communication. I asked him to honor his price, and ask why I would pay $209 when his own website says the room was $199. He then blamed it on Airbnb fees (which hello I pay). He then proceeded to tell me to book on his website. Which in Airbnb land is not ok. Lastly I missed out on 2 other listing because of his long response time to something he could of been up front and honest about 10 min after he got his notification about the request. This place needs to do better. Will not eat here when I stay or attempt to stay here again in the future.

Yelp
The Almanett Hotel contacted me on 10 January to say that, after further review, they would issue me a refund. The refund took a while, likely the credit card company's fault and not there fault. It finally came through, so I'm updating my review of them to 4 stars for giving me exactly what I asked for. I'm leaving one star off because I'm not happy it took months of fighting, a negative BBB review and negative reviews on Google and Yelp to get a simple refund, not to mention sending a dispute to my credit card company. Should have been easier. That all said, they did resolve it and I'm no longer $107.52 short.

Yelp
On entering The Almanett I could tell it was a family owned establishment, in a good way. Their hospitality made us feel at home and decor that gave me a great first impression. Just a couple of adjustments and I feel that this family could bump their business up to the next level. Simple things like putting a mini-fridge and microwave in the rooms would be great. You do not realize you are missing these things until you do not have them. While they did have wi-fi, we could not find the password nor someone to give it to us when we needed it. Their complementary breakfast was not available at the time advertised. All in all, a few simple changes could improve the experience. A decent place to stay but not worth the price until they figure out how to fix the simple things.

Yelp
Rooms were cute and clean, and the staff is lovely. The hotel is quiet and as a woman traveling alone, I felt 100 percent comfortable. The location couldn't be better, plus you get true Gulf Coast hospitality and not something generic that you'd find at a chain hotel.

Yelp
We stayed at the hotel (in Genevieve) and ate lunch at the Bistro, and both were excellent! It is such a beautiful place, and only a short walk from the beach. The room was comfortable, clean, quiet and private. We had our own little balcony with a view of the beach. Couldn't have been more happy with it. The continental breakfast was really nice, too, with great fresh fruit and pastries. They have a very nice lounge area/veranda on the second floor. The bistro is really cool too, and has a full bar. We were seated immediately, and the waitress was awesome. We got the trout and the fried shrimp basket. Both were delicious and really well priced. The drinks were tasty and strong too. We were only there for a night but I would have loved to go back for dinner or to check out their events. Basically, I am positive we will be staying and eating there again. Thank you Almanett staff!

Yelp
First time here. Was a little confused on where the entrance was, lol, but eventually found it. The interior isn't that big but it was nicely decorated. They have live music some nights and also poetry night; can't remember what nights though. The waitress and bartender were nice. I ordered the Trout with pasta bordelaise as a side. It was very good. The crab cakes were good also. My wife got the all u can eat fried fish. It was pretty good. Gotta go back to try the gumbo.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great service, great music and great food! We had the fried green tomatoes, catfish and shrimp. Also the drinks were top notch and not stingy on the alcohol. We will be back next time we are in Gulfport!

Karen W.

Yelp
My family and I ate here today and I am so glad that we did! The food was great! The service was phenomenal! We had the fried tomatoes, spinach artichoke dip, catfish and spicy wings. The atmosphere was perfect!

Yelp
I would like to preface this by saying that the hotel is beautiful and in amazing location. The reason I am giving such a place a 1 star review though is because while out to the beach I had a $60 item stolen from my room. The manager was notified and the owner responded very quickly but only to act like I was lying. I will never stay here again and suggest if you do that you get no room service during your stay.
google avatar

Yelp
BEWARE of reserving a room here. We booked a room 2/19 and changed our mind about staying here. We called 2/21 to cancel and owner refuses to refund deposit which is over $200.00! I have never had an experience like this. We booked 6 weeks in advance of our stay and only had the room held for two days before cancelling. Unscrupulous business practices would give it zero stars if able. Will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau.

Yelp
I didn't stay but I did tour. My sister is the artist who painted the lemons and limes in the dining area, if you've been there you know what I mean. Chappy is great! The services is awesome. The food is so good if I had socks they would have flew off. I am a sucker for fried green tomatoes and the ones I had here were the best I've ever had. Tart tangy with delicious crawfish tails mmmm mmm c'est si bon. Might I add I came all the way from Seattle. I also had the blackened shrimp pasta .... The noodles in the pasta were so perfectly amazing.... I mean amazing !! I cannot wait to go back and eat there again and again and again. Beautiful ambiance, great food, and service can't beat that!

Yelp
Excellent service!!! The waiter was patient and helpful with our picky tastes. Drinks were original and made with love. Food was good, but leaves something to be desired. It is definitely a gem for Gulfpot, MS!

Yelp
Could not have asked for a nicer way to end our Anniversary trip to the Coast. We stopped for lunch on our way back to Mandeville. Michael, who's family owns and operates this fine little Hotel & Bistro, seated us and took our drink orders. My wife and I were both enthralled with the unique art on the walls and Michael took us on a personal tour of the local and regional art that hangs in the building. Very impressive and tasteful. Classically hip. We learned of the history of the eclectic building, as well as the deep connection to his family's history. What a pleasant person and what an inspiring story. We even got peeks of two of the six suites. Sadly there were none available for that weekend. We returned to our table to find our Fried Green Tomatoes with crab meat Napoleon waiting. My MS Wife and I had gone all over Downtown two days before in search of Green Fried's and were surprised that even the comfort food spots in Gulfport did not have them. These were good, green, crisp and plentiful with a nice sauce and crab. Our grilled Trout Almanett arrived and we were very happy. Perfectly grilled, with well seasoned veggies and tiny, butterflied sautéed shrimp in a lemon herb sauce. Being from Louisiana, we were surprised that they got the spice right. I would eat this again and again. The Lunch portion was adequate and we did eat it again when we got home. (Actually my daughter stole it and gave me a few bites!) We also took some Cheesecake home as well. Very thick, dense, creamy with a crumbly, tasty crust. Excellence. Eat it 'naked' with no sauces needed. Each bite was two bites. Our server, Ashley, was cute, smart and attentive. She was professional, yet warm, and seemed happy to be there and aiming to please. Very refreshing. She even offered ice so our food would fresh to Louisiana. Pricing is exactly where you would want it for this quality of food and service. Don't tell Michael but they could increase that fish a little if they so desired. They were also running an AYCE Fried, Grilled or WhoDat shrimp Lunch special for some unreasonably low price. Their Lunch specials are very popular with the Professionals in Downtown. Maybe next time;.....I might break them eating Grilled Shrimp! All of this personal attention and service was provided without them even knowing it was our Anniversary. Oh, and ask about the Live Jazz night, I think on second Fridays...Thanks guys, for an awesome experience and meal.

Joe B.

Yelp
Great quite place to meet and have dinner and conduct business. I would highly recommend it

Yelp
Another great night of fine jazz and spirits. Starting next week they will begin serving a dinner menu, wed- sun!!! They have brought in a fine chef from one of the local upscale restaurants inside the Beau Rivage!!! I for one, am looking forward to the fusion of local jazz and fine dining!!!!

Yelp
Wow... Ate at Chappy's Bistro here and had an incredible meal. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
We found this place on Airbnb. Was short notice. For the price, this place is top notch. The staff is friendly, and attentive. The rooms were spacious and clean. This is a worthy destination. Minor quibble... a microwave in the room might be nice. No worries otherwise:) Will be back

Yelp
My husband and I just left The Almanett and it was a great experience! We had no idea what we had been missing out on for the last three years here in Mississippi. The atmosphere is amazing and we even got to tour the hotel and rooms, all I can say is I am looking forward to our next visit next week. The band was outstanding and the singers were superb!! Don't get me started about the good food. I cannot say enough about this place. I have a new spot for date night with my man, a place to take out of town guest or even ladies night out. I cannot wait until the 3rd Saturday of the month because they have a poetry night! I started off the new year right tonight. A good friend invited us and now he is a great friend. I had too much fun to take a photo...next I will be sure to post some.

Yelp
Just finished dinner at The Almanett Hotel and Bistro in Gulfport. Absolutely the best meal we have had in a long, long time. The steak just melted in my mouth. The lamb was scrumptious. The fried green tomatoes were perfectly crispy with the finest crab sauce I have ever eaten. Decor is beautiful. Views are amazing. 11th Hour band from New Orleans rocked the joint. My new favorite place. Definately 5 stars in my book, and my book is very difficult. Thanks to Mike, Tripp and most importantly Miss Adrian the chef.

Reggie P.

Yelp
The Almanett bed and breakfast establishment is better than ever! The rooms are very spacious. The view overlooks the gulf (ocean). The fried green tomatoes in the restaurant/lounge are fabulous!

Elam P.

Yelp
Great history here!! Loved the idea of this hotel and the owner. Made me and my wife feel at home. We enjoyed our stay and will return!!

Brian V.

Yelp
Outstanding accommodations, small quaint hotel that is very convenient to Gulfport downtown area. Very courteous and attentive staff. Restaurant was not open the day we stayed but there was a catered event being held and they graciously gave us some of the food being served. All I can say is that was the most amazing and perfectly cooked fried catfish we ever ate! Would definitely recommend and will stay there again - next time on a day when the restaurant is open!

Bruce N.

Yelp
Walked out. Do not go. They were out of fish, shrimp, oysters. We still ordered what they had but gave up after 40 min

Derrick E.

Yelp
A charming little secret that is bound to get out, the Almanett Hotel and Bistro is a superb boutique hotel that is as friendly, comfortable and modestly priced as ANY luxury lodging ANYWHERE. The restaurant has absolutely AMAZING seafood and soul cuisine, as well as a stellar wine list and wet bar. Locally and African-American owned, this largely undiscovered gem is indeed "world class" in its rich but rare coastal and Mississippi (not just "southern") atmosphere and vibe. Just ask anyone who authentically knows about shrimp, gumbo, collards or yams, etc. Bittom Line: The Almanett has become the place where I will always stay whenever I visit the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

A L S.

Yelp
This header should read The Almanett Hotel and Bistro. It is the Bistro I am reviewing. It was fabulous. Bistro is a little misleading. Linen table cloths, fireplace with a fire going (unusually cold evening), relaxed atmosphere and didn't have a "touristy" feel. We were taken care of promptly, friendly, and efficiently. I want to stress friendly. The chef even came out to talk to us. They checked on us and were consistent and not intrusive. Now the food. The food was over the top. There were 4 of us (2 of us have food issues) and we all ordered something different. So, we shared. It was plentiful and wonderful. We have family in Gulfport, they had never been. In all our years of visiting our family there, this is the best restaurant we have eaten. Don't miss this if you are visiting. And again, I want to give a hat's off to the warm, welcoming staff. We were there for an intense family situation and this restaurant took all the stress off of us for the night. The food was wonderful, plentiful, and we couldn't finish our plates.

Walter T.

Yelp
Chappy' s is Wonderful. The Trout Long Beach is Backkkkkkkk. Good service, cozy atmosphere. Deserts, well don't miss them.

Chess C.

Yelp
Chappy's is now the Almanett Hotel Bistro. I considered going to Chappy's for lunch a real treat. The food and atmosphere was wonderful at Chappy's. The waitress was wonderful. She was very helpful and nice. I had a four year old with me and she gave her crayons and a coloring book, small thing but huge when dealing with a child that needs something to do while waiting for their food. It was lunch but empty except for a large table of people and my small group. There was certainly something different and my "Ah-Ha!" moment came when I noticed the name of the restaurant on the menu. It was not Chappy's any longer. The waitress told me that Chappy was gone but everything was the same. I figured it was possible that it would be even better so i stayed. There was a limited selection of drinks since there was issues with the coke dispenser...Coke guy was supposed to come by to fix it. Then there was no cake of the day or soup of the day...the supply truck had not came by yet and there was issues that are not interesting enough to go into details about why it had not arrived the day it should have. I felt bad for the waitress because there is nothing worse than explaining problems that you have no control over. So the menu was limited. We went with the fish of the day (thinking back i wonder how fresh it was since the truck did not come by the day it should have). We ordered grilled we received blackened...i thought the heat from the dish was from the sauce but then i noticed the fish was blackened...luckily i am not opposed to spice. I did not complain because maybe the cook thought i should have had the blackened or maybe they knew something i didn't about the grilled. There were white onions in the sauce and i can not help but wish they would have sauteed them or cooked the sauce longer or anything to make the onion seem less like an after thought. ...raw onion crunch does not improve any sauce that i can think of. The fries are not the frozen nasty kind but the real hand-cut type and i loved that. Would have loved ice cream and cake but it was just not to be. In my opinion it seems that the restaurant is now poorly managed. I either did not see a manager or the manager was sitting at the large table eating lunch. If the manager was sitting at the table then i find it odd he or she could not put off their lunch since they close between lunch and dinner time. Perhaps they should have went to the grocery store to get a few items to make soup and cake...I am really bitter about the cake and ice cream apparently. Chappy would go into the dinning area and talk to the customers and personally check on people, that was a wonderful touch that was lacking during my visit. The only person that checked on me was the waitress and the hostess. I do not think i will return. The food...well I wasn't impressed...It was not memorable, at least not in a good way. The best things about the restaurant was the service, the clean restrooms, and the wall art. Although these things are great I eat out to experience my taste buds dancing and that just was not happening. I miss Chappy. There was an episode of Kitchen Nightmares with Chappy and reality tv is just..well not reality. I am a boring person but i have a strong belief that if i were to be on reality tv that the editors would make my life fabulously dramatic. Quite frankly he could have kicked baby panda bears and i would not have cared because when he was there i really enjoyed his food.
