Oyster Dressing Is a Thanksgiving Dish That Says ‘Party’ | Eater

"Each November she buys freshly shucked Chesapeake oysters packed in pint jars, favoring seasonal “r”-month oysters despite the availability of farmed bivalves year-round. The oysters are prized for their freshness and briny oyster liquor, which the cook uses sparingly to moisten a buttery, herb-forward dressing made with softened celery and onions, chicken broth, thyme, sage, parsley, white pepper, and stale whole-wheat bread. The oysters are halved before being folded into the mixture and baked until the top is golden and crisp; served warm alongside turkey and traditional sides, the dish adds umami and texture that converts even skeptics of raw oysters and yields prized leftovers for sandwiches." - Jess Mayhugh

Google
Donuts are amazing , blueberry fritter was okay it was dry for me, soft pretzels are sooo delicious! Pecan caramel chocolate are good but pretty pricey. Love the dairy products , cheesecake strawberry was delicious

Google
The best flea and farmer's market. I go on Thursdays to pick vintage items to flip for profit on ebay. They have the best selections from vintage art glasses, art pottery, toys and collectibles. They have anything you can think of be it old or new. We also go there for the amish food court that serves the best beef brisket sandwich and lemonade. Don't forget the donuts that are to die for.

Marcie Suter

Google
Great bakery items and very friendly staff. It can get busy on the weekends and lines do get long but they move fairly quickly!

Donna Reynolds

Google
Incredible food of all kinds to take home or eat there! Can easily spend too much because everything looks and smells sooo good. Friendly service at every counter. You'll go back again and again!

Google
We came here for the first time today. It is a little over an hour from where we live. What a great place, it was absolutely worth the trip! We got a beautiful sirloin and some bacon, a soft pretzel that was probably the best I’ve ever had, fudge, and even chocolate covered bacon! But by far the best part? The whoopie pies and the donuts. They make the best raspberry filled donuts I’ve ever had. The whoopie pies weren’t dry and the whipped cream was wonderful. I can’t wait to return. Go now!!

Christopher Farkas

Google
First time there in years, they got rid of the wood work and brought in tons more food. Donuts were great. Huge selection of pickled items. Got some jalapeño eggs.

Heather Merrick

Google
It’s hard to not go every week for donuts. They are truly the best and the best bang for your buck! The line can get pretty long so I try to go early.

Google
A little bit of everything. The seafood market is OK but you would think the prices would be great. Honestly they are a little bit on the high side. ² large frozen lobster tails was $60. The same amount of lobster at Costco is $49 to 52. So not a value...not competitive. The outside venders seem to almost have some stuff cheap phone stuff same clothes shoes sneakers socks and toys. The inside ships are more stable and have reasonable prices but know the prices before you go here. Amish food is good not super.

Yelp
To each their own, this place isn't for everyone lol. Some people love it, some people hate it. But They have EVERYTHING YOU NEED in one spot. I've been coming here my whole life. I go for the Amish Donuts and pretzels, the fresh produce across the way and the flowers in the back. I recently bought a dress for a wedding from here too!!!

Yelp
This was a very cool spot. I didn't get to get the full experience due to visiting on Good Friday however I did get to stop by a few shops and snag some cool items for great prices. I was shocked to see some name brands for such reasonable prices, from Bath & Body works to makeup brands you love. You never know what you'll find here. They also have some great produce if you live nearby and enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables.

Yelp
Come for the farmers market - stay for the Amish goods. My friend and I made a trip down here early on a Saturday. It does get really packed, but I'd say there's always a parking unit if it's a little farther away. We came mainly for the Amish market and it did not disappoint. We live farther away, so we didn't think about bringing a cooler, but honestly, they have such great deli selections and meat selections that I would think about bringing one in the future. Their barbecue section is unreal. I ended up getting it barbecue chicken sandwich to try and it was delicious. The pickles are to die for. I got two huge containers of them and will be slowly crying as I eat the last of them. The bakery section itself is insane - they have everything from cookies to croissants to biscuits to bread to pies. It's dangerous. The showstopper here quite honestly is the pretzels. I didn't think an Amish pretzel would be the highlight of my day, but I was wrong. They have regular, but they have these stuffed pretzels that are ridiculously good. I got stuffed with ham and mozzarella cheese and it was great even the next day. Just warmed up in the microwave for a couple seconds. The quality of their food really shows especially their meat quality. It's worth making a day trip over here to come and check out the shops and hit this market. Don't forget to take a wander around their candy section. It's insane.

Yelp
I didn't get the outdoor farmers market experience because it was later in the day but some of the shops inside are pretty cool (the candy store and sports store was great, the expired grocery store was pretty gross). Definitely an experience though!

Yelp
The market was huge both indoors and outdoors and offered a variety of options for consumers. A bit outdated but for the most part a place everyone should visit. We enjoyed the Tomato Pie the most.

Yelp

Yelp
Used to come here long long time ago. I was shocked they were even still around. They have some cool stores and the typical vendors as you'd see at a flea market-like place. But have great food throughout.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best find in the area. My boyfriend and family members told me about this market (specifically the Amish market) but I didn't understand the hype until I was there. Amazingly fresh and delicious options. I've already brought my sister, best friend and goddaughters here (and I live in north jersey). I will continuously come back and go out of my way to come back! Love Columbus' market.

Lanie B.

Yelp
this place really has gone downhill. trash is everywhere all the time, selling fake products, selling expired and improperly stored food. the "vintage" vendors leave before noon and leave behind the things that aren't even worth trying to sell again in garbage cans. the produce market re-sells costco groceries and has things that need refrigerated baking in the sun, and the refrigerated items are moldy.
google avatar

Sandy W.

Yelp
Variety of specialty shops and restaurants. Great prices on produce! Variety of Amish style foods to eat there or buy in bulk to make at home. When we went there wasn't any outside vendors however inside there were enough to make it worth the trip. Hubby and I ate at a Amish restaurant, we ordered at the counter and took the food to a common eating area. We both ordered the ham/bean soup! Actually the small was enough for a meal because it was so hearty! Hubby also ate the bbq chicken sandwich which he thought was tasty! I had a piece of beef sausage which was delicious!!

Yelp
Exceptional market with great stores, nice people, and amazing food. The bakeries are exceptional and it offers many different small business which you need to check out!

Yelp
First off , if you want to rent an outside table , the older guy who collects the money at the gate is not only rude but you can always count on him making a rude or even a nasty comment, Not only that but he is also a very cocky, a bully and he thinks he is above everyone and is quick to ban you from the flea market. Unfortunately its impossible to find his superior or anyone at all for that matter, to complain to. So potential vendors beware...
google avatar

Yelp
It's always a nice sized crowd. Bayure Herbs is my destination. From Seamoss, Bladderwrack, burdock, dandelion, and soursop, if you need it, he has it. Truly nature's best. There are so many wonderful stores inside and deals on the outside. I've been going to Columbus for years, and now I take my children every weekend. Go find your hidden jewel or set up a table.

Lora Ann N.

Yelp
This is on our recent village to the Amish market. There's one girl behind the counter that has no clue what the foods are. We ordered chicken breast. We got chicken legs we ordered baby back ribs. We got regular ribs which we don't like. Came all the way home a 2 Hour Dr. with this crap threw it out. Watch what they're packing you.

Yelp
Lots of great things to see and good food to sample, biggest con is that it's outside and very cold ... bring your winter jacket and gloves!

Barry S.

Yelp
Love the Columbus flea market. Place is huge with lots of vendors and plenty of bargains. Love to walk around and spend hours there.

Yelp
[1114] 10/2020 This Market has tons of parking and is easy to find. I visited this place years ago and really enjoyed the variety of shops. There are indoor shops which get crowded fast and TONS of outside shops. Some under an awning and some out in the fresh air. We found some good deals. Plenty of friendly people. We had tasty Chinese food. I'll definitely be back. Early in the day because it can get busy.

R.S. M.

Yelp
It's nice shopping in a casual, friendly atmosphere. The Amish Market has the best food and baked goods you can find near the joint base. Some good and less costly options various ethnic cuisines and mom and pop stores for home goods, car and recreational activities.

Yelp
If for nothing else, go for Kate and Als pizza and the amish bakery. Spent only $42 and has baked goods for days. The boston cream donuts are ridiculously filled not like supermarket doughnuts. Both pizza and amish food mart are cash only.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, what a selection of all types of food, everything from Amish desserts, Butcher shops, shakes, pizza, fried chicken, potato wedges (jojo), Korean, Chinese, Smoked BBQ meats. I really think you need about 5 days just to try most of the good stuff here. In addition you can find various knick nacks as well as antique furniture. The food portions are generally large and very good value. The fried chicken and Jojos at Chicken Coop wasn't as crunchy as I hoped but its still very tasty. You can buy the chicken and sit at the Chicken Coop Cafe right next to it. Mac and cheese was very good although you need to add your own salt and pepper to taste.

Yelp
As farmers markets go, I drive a longer way to get to this one. It's worth it. Gets busy inside on the weekends. Still worth going.

Yelp
Columbus Market is huge! Organized chaos is the perfect description. So many indoor and outdoor vendors. The quality of the new products being sold in the outdoor flea market isn't exactly high end but then again that's not what a flea market is for. A lot of counterfeit brands being sold too. They defintely have whatever you can imagine - clothes, accessories, tools, toys, electronics etc. Inside there are so many types of food being sold to satisfy every palate. I love everything the Amish people make. It's so fresh. Plus there's seafood, Mexican food, soul food, candy and snacks etc... You name it. Can't forget the cbd shop inside. Overall it's a fun experience if you don't mind crowds.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Went here for the first time a few years ago and had a pretty bad experience. Vendors were overly pushy and one even moved racks around to block off the door so I couldn't leave with my baby in her stroller. Went again a few times more recently and had a much better experience.

Yelp
What? It was entertaining, sheesh. OK, wish I thought and realized ahead of time that coming on a Sunday would mean missing out on all the Amish stuff. I came early, just after 9 AM, to avoid the heat. Parking was easy, no big crowds, and I was outta there pretty fast. This is a classic flea and indoor market. Don't come here unless you are OK with seeing 5 different vendors all claiming to be selling genuine bamboo pillows at 5 different locations. Lots of junk, oh my god, so much junk and crappily made things, but half the fun is making fun of the junk. A fellow Elite told me to not miss the shish ka bobs sold in the parking lot, so I grabbed one to try. To be honest, I wasn't that impressed, but that was just me. Perhaps should've grabbed the beef instead of the pork version. The lemonade was pretty weak but hit the spot to cool off on a hot day.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite place to go when I'm stressed out and just spend $600-$700 on some stuff that's gonna make me happy. I always bring at least $1000 with me, because there are a lot of great people there. One of my favorite places in the entire world I have been there at least 100 times probably much more since I was a kid and I am in my late 40s now The last time I was there I was buying some old baseball cards off of this really nice seller. I noticed that the seller next to him that sold swords just happen to have an antique Turkish/ottoman saber. I am a history major, and I have noticed some markings on the sword that we're dating and recording which battle it was used in. So I asked the overweight, sweaty, illiterate dealer, if he knew he had an authentic museum, peace saber. He leans over to me and says, "I am very busy, I don't have time for nonsense and play!" if he knew I had $1000 on me and I was interested in this sword he would've been nice. But when he just saw I looked like I was a kid that probably didn't have any money. I am in my late 40s but I look like I'm in my 20s so people like him mistake lol me for a broke kid rather than a man, that has been buying and selling everything since I was 17 and maybe earlier. I called a dealer I know in Philadelphia and told him about the saber. He rushed over to Columbus flea market as fast as he could, and brought the saber for $17. Now usually if we find a big money item really cheap, we give the original owner 30% as long as 30% reaches $100 or more, If not, we just give them a $100 bill. This is to create a relationship with someone so if they do get something else good he will call us first. We got the saber appraised at $20,000. We sold it to a local collector for $17,550. That means that the sword dealer was to receive $3510 but he was nothing but rude. So we went together the following week and asked him if he had any more Turkish/ottoman sabers because we just sold the one we bought from him for $17,550. We even bought a video on my phone showing us handing over the sword and receiving all that money in cash! He was so angry, but we were so satisfied. That was one of my best days of Columbus flea market. Always remember manners well get you everywhere and rudeness is never acceptable especially in sales. It lost him over $3000 and every time we have been there since we just stand there and look at him until he notices us and loses his mind with anger while we laugh like we're watching an overweight, rude, ignorant man, try to sell $20 swords, to the public as decorations. He blew his one big shot by being a jerk.........

Yelp
Great farmer's market! We've found really great deals on plums, peaches, and other fruits here. They also have a fantastic Amish market with many different stations, including a pickles station. I usually will eat pickles, but I don't love them. However, I absolutely love their red hot pickles and can't wait to be back for more and to try their other pickle flavors. Their cheeses and crab dip are also delicious. We went for the first time in October on a weekend and although everyone was wearing a mask, it was still very crowded, so we haven't been back since. We do hope to return to the Amish market again at some point next year though!

Tamana A.

Yelp
Overall everything about this place is amazing expect Roman Jewelers! The most racists people I ever met. In the sign it say we sell Gold, silver and diamond. I was trying to sell something Diamond he said no we don't sell that. Then my mom ask I have some gold jewelry. The lady said NO and just ignore her and walk away. Just because she was wearing hijab (head covering) we try get the man he kept saying no we don't sell. Why not just say we don't sell or buy from MUSLIMS. The other lady kept walking and help someone else who came behind us. I never ever seen this but this place is disgusting. You definitely lost customers. They don't like Muslims or any hijab is! May God punish you all! Have to rate you but ur definitely worth -0

Yelp
Absolute must see if you're near central Jersey. The Amish market has a variety of stations from fresh baked goods (donuts, cakes, breads, prepared where you can see), a cold cuts section, a hot buffet bar section, a breakfast spot, and chocolate & candy station to name a few. People rave about their Lemonade and bakery items. This is only in the Amish section, if you continue through the warehouse there is so much more! Vendors galore! From a pet store to food vendors, to collectors stations its all great fun. NOTE: Amish market is closed on Sundays. During the summer the place triples in size with the outdoor flea market which attracts hundreds of great vendors and good finds. You will have a great time listening to music, meeting interesting people, and trying new foods.

Kennedy M.

Yelp
Trash everywhere, getting hit in the legs with garbage as we are walking through the flea market. The vendors are throwing trash on the ground and it is seen consistently through the various piles of garbage. They clearly do not care about the environment as trash flies over the fence into the surrounding area. Vendors also selling illegal items. Very dirty and sketchy market. Will not ever be going back
google avatar

Billy Z.

Yelp
I love this place so much that I don't even know where to start with the review. The mix of vendors is awesome. The food is awesome. But my favorite part is probably the overall weirdness. We saw a guy pushing a cart full of pet skunks a few weeks ago.I'll leave it at that...

Gary M.

Yelp
Many food products out of date, past expiration date & still being sold. Breaking the law & people's confidence in shopping here no longer trusted
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
Love this place for the pizza, the low prices, the good produce and the atmosphere. The people are so nice. You can literally come here to find anything you want/need. I've been coming here for as long as i can remember.
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
Nice Market, alot of stuff, ample parking, both indoor and outdoor vendors, nice way to spend a Saturday
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
A wide assortment of deli meats/cheeses, butcher area, bakery, candy etc. You'll definitely find something for yourself here! I frequent here weekly. Highly suggest the deli counter with the barrels of pickles. Half sours are the best there in my opinion (although pricey). Bakery area is to be desired. Everything kind of tastes the same with similar mushy textures. A lot of the time they're selling the frozen donuts just thawed out, no bueno! The BBQ area is always filled with an insane line, so probably safe to say it's relatively good, but have not tried that myself. They have a wood and house area with home decor and small handmade wooden furniture pieces as well. Open Thursday-Saturday
google avatar

Yelp
Exciting and huge. We tried Louis Hoagie Shop... this place could be a good mine. It's filthy and the food is really bad. We thought it would be like the Reading Terminal in Philly but it was so bad. Looking forward to going back & trying some Mexican
google avatar

Jean C.

Yelp
There's a hidden gem in Columbus, NJ and it's Delaware Valley's oldest and largest flea market called Columbus Farmers Market. Inside this market, you'll find the most incredible and talented Amish food vendors that can prepare amazing, hot food like their killer baby back ribs, veggies and mac & cheese. This is also my go-to Amish dessert place when I'm unable to head towards Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia where, I may add, is also a hot spot for Amish baked goods! You must see their freshly baked goods and the chocolate shop! There are lots of things to see both inside and outside the market. I can easily spend half the day here especially during the summer time where all the veggies and fruits are out on display!
google avatar

Tanya R.

Yelp
Outside various areas with good produce & a lot of variety of clothing & accessories. Amish section opened on weekend!
google avatar

Evelyn T.

Yelp
Love this place. We come here at least once a month. On Saturdays the Amish Market is open. They have amazing food. We never leave the place without buying something from the vendors.

Yelp
If you are a collector : THIS is a REAL FLEA MARKET with something for EVERY TASTE ! It's BIG ! Come on a nice SUNDAY with LOTS of cash and a hand truck -- you're gonna go home with a LOT of stuff !! Just DO NOT come here with NON-FLEA market people because they will NAG you to leave before you have looked at everything! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. This is FIVE STARS and ... the food choices here are also good ! Oh, and they sell POT as well here for your stoner friends.

Dawn S.

Yelp
PACKED, PACKED, PACKED! Parking is a nightmare. Don't enter at the first parking lot, travel down the road a bit for the next entrance on the right, much, much better. So many vendors, didn't even get to go inside, so much to see! Loved the roasted corn!! Signs all over state no dogs but you know the type of person... THAT RULE CERTAINLY DOESN'T APPLY TO ME! Huge place and no security anywhere outside, no one to tell these entitled individuals that there are no dogs allowed.
google avatar

Dara C.

Yelp
Columbus is always a great place to find a good deal, grab a bite to eat, and walk around. We love walking around looking at the different vendors and foods, great place to walk off all that great food. I've been coming to Columbus for most of my life and it hasn't changed. We'll definitely come back, for the great deals, good foods, and amazing people.
google avatar

Michele M.

Yelp
We went here in the September it was hot to walk around outside. If you see something you like don't buy it from the 1st table. Some other vendor might have it cheaper. They do have garden decor items cheaper then others. My grandkids loved the toys I bought them. The only thing I would buy again was the fruit outside. It went bad fast. Even the figs I guess because it was so hot. We did find a plant place when leaving the parking lot. It was reasonably. Will go back

Yelp
Updating rating since they are not dog friendly.

Yelp
I always loved this farmers market since I was a young child and still to this day. There's lot of stores with something for everyone and it's just a nice place to walk around and take it all in.

Yelp
Columbus Market is organized very well. It is extremely crowded, but that is to be expected. No chaos. If you are selling, you get two tables and are allowed one vehicle. People are insanely cheap, and scoff at you if you say you want $5.00 for an item that was originally $90.00 and is in perfect condition. It's fun to haggle with people in the beginning, but after a while it just gets so hot out you stop caring and are willing to give everything away for cheaper because you just want to get the hell out of there. If you are looking to sell items, aim for the fall because the weather is nice. Probably not the best place to sell items that you want a lot of money for, but it's great if you have a ton of dollar items you want to just get rid of. We made friends with the people at the table next to us, and that was fun. Get lemonade at Dave's (outdoors). It is great lemonade, very refreshing, and the staff is super nice even when under pressure. There are a lot of little food shops inside as well as outside. We went to Anna's Corner Cafe which we wouldn't recommend. They sell meatloaf platters next to the ice cream. The staff also wasn't friendly at all. A man was standing next to us looking at the ice cream flavors, and the staff member working grumpily said, "There's a line." The man apologized and clarified he wasn't cutting anyone in line and that he just wanted to see what the flavors were so he could decide ahead of time. The staff member ignored him and was just overall really rude. I felt bad for him. The ice cream from here wasn't very good either; it had a cheap fake taste to it.

Yelp
I love this place. I usually take the drive out here every Spring to get some plants, some produce, a slice at Pete's pizza and anything and everything from the Amish market. This place draws quite the crowd and for the most part I find the stores to be typical flea market junk but they do have good deals on some stuff. I mainly come here to eat, but it's one of the better indoor/outdoor flea markets, very much like the Englishtown Auction. Definitely worth stopping in on a nice Spring day.

Tina W.

Yelp
Great place to go for produce and their Amish Market is great too! My husband and I Love to go on Sundays tho to see all the food vendors!!!

B K.

Yelp
The Amish market and surrounding food is why you come here. If it weren't for that end of the building the rating would be a 2-star at best. The produce stand is about average, not real sure where they get there stuff, it says Jersey corn, Jersey tomatoes etc. but honestly I am not sure. The outside market is good on Sunday with the "non-professional" people out there. Saturday it is pretty much cell phone accessories and shoes. The "beauty" supply place inside has some really good bargains.
