Incredible gastronomic experience! The maître d'hôtel was very attentive and he really knew about the food that was being served. We ate a la carte and each and every dish was delicous! It is not so expensive considering the quality you get. We definitely recommend it and we will try to repeat soon!

We had the tasting menu and enjoyed every single dish. Elly was kind enough to let us swap the duck liver course for scallop. Our favourite dish was the sea bass, with the lamb loin a close second. The service was friendly and attentive. They do a lunch deal which looks like excellent value. Lovely location, and if you get a window seat you can see all the activity going on in the harbour. If you call ahead you may be able to get a private parking spot for £10, if not, it’s worth allowing a bit of extra time to find one- there are spots where you can get 2 hours for free, but if you are having the tasting menu you may want more time. The espresso was excellent quality as were the petit fours.

Many thanks to Ellie and her team for the delicious birthday lunch! The new menu du jour option was a bargain we couldn’t pass up. Everything was delicious as well as beautiful. The starter Gougères were “to die for"; we just wish there had been four per couple; it’s difficult to share three. The English sparkling rosé was particularly good. We look forward to coming again!

The food here was incredible and the service was impeccable! We had the a la carte menu, everything we had was amazing but the scallops to start were a show stopper. Very nice and reasonably priced drinks were recommended by the staff who were very knowledgeable.

I haven’t been to the Angel since Joyce Molyeneux died and have to admit that I was a little disappointed with the experience last night. Not that I didn’t have a great meal... Elly Wentworth can definitely cook, that is not up for discussion. However, the overall experience is not where it needs to be to charge the money they’re charging...the service is most definitely not there. They’re not lacking enthusiasm...they’re lacking a firm hand front-of-house to train the people they have to operate at Michelin levels. I ate the following night at RockFish and, the food was less satisfying in most ways, the price was 60% less and the service was honest and straightforward...exactly what you’d expect at RockFish (and the food, while primarily firmed, was all executed incredibly well. We didn’t go for the tasting menu...we went with a starter & main instead. We both end the scallops to start and this was probably the highlight of the meal...just a fabulous mix of flavors from the perfectly cooked scallops to the pickled hazelnuts. Very nearly the perfect creation. However, neither of us had quite the same high opinion of our fish main courses, although my halibut was quite enjoyable. The pre-dessert was pretty average, 3 of the 5 cheeses (which we chose for the dessert course) were excellent but the other 2 disappointing and the coffee was fine (but does anyone judge the quality of a restaurant from the coffee?). If I could grade it out of 10, I’d give my dinner last night a 7/10...I just can’t give it a 4/5, as that is what I am giving RockFish. I expect more of a restaurant like the Angel...the food has to be consistently the best and it has to be complemented with the best service and ambience. The Angel is not quite there today.

Top-quality food in a pleasant setting, using the best of local ingredients. We ordered from the a la carte menu, three-course is great value with a good selection for each course. The wine menu is extensive and covers a wide range of tastes and prices. Our server was Jordan, also the front of house manager, his passion for his job shone through. Despite the ‘COVID secure’ measures in place, this restaurant has lost none of its ambience or standards.

One of our holiday highlights has to be our meal at The Angel Taste of Devon. From the first taste of the crab arancini, to the final mouthful of the beautiful raspberry millefeuille - was incredible flavour and texture combinations you just wanted to savour. Plus the location is great for people watching and the service was great- especially when Elly Wentworth came over for a chat at the end of our meal (major fan girl moment after watching her amazing dishes on Great British Menu). Such a fab meal!

One of the top dining experiences we had in the Devon area over the past 12 months - we went with the Vegan tasting menu, it knocked the ball out of the park with every new course, terrific attention to detail & ingredient creativity. Decor pretty casual.

A charmingly refined place to eat. You could be in a top London restaurant. I've wanted to eat at the New Angel for a long time and I was not disappointed. We had dinner (make sure you book) but they do lunch as well. The French maître d' made sure he made everyone feel welcome and had clearly spent time in high profile restaurants - a nice touch. Food was classic French. You could tell the chef has spent a lot of time selecting his produce, every mouthful of every course was tasty and cooked to the highest standard. My Main course of pan fried foie gras sitting on lamb was exquisite with just the right delicate flavours going on. I would have to say that the foie gras tasted better than I've had in France! Wine selection was very extensive - we had the house Red - perfect. For desert i had Crème brûlée which was as it should be, chilled in the middle with the sugar cripsy on top and not burnt. I have not had better anywhere else. If you are holidaying down in the southwest and you like really good food - this is a gem of a place to stop. Oh and by the way they have a Michelin star so a la carte can be expensive.

I have been to the New Angel three or four times and to the Carved Angel which was here before many times. It's a lovely spot right by the Dart Estuary in picturesque Dartmouth. The kitchen is visible from the dining room which has the feeling of a large chef's table as a result. John Burton-Race was cooking when we went there for lunch this week. Whereas most Michelin-starred chefs seem to spend more time on television than in the kitchen, it's really good to see him actually doing the business instead of talking about it. The food was excellent - good ingredients, well cooked. I had a crab tortellini and my wife had chicken liver pate to start and we both had turbot for the main course. For pudding I had a souffle and my wife had a parfait. With two glasses of champagne, some water and a tip, the total came to just over £120. Which sort of serves us right for ordering off the a la carte menu. We should have stuck with the better value prix fixe lunch menu. Last time I was here for lunch, it was pretty busy but this week there were only three tables occupied. I suspect that in season (not in April), for dinner and on weekends bookings are necessary. So, good food, good location and a reasonable price if you don't leave the prix fixe menu. So what's not to like. Frankly, it's the service. The whole thing was very professional but utterly charmless, cold, distant and verging on the rude. For example, when we arrived the maitre d' actually stood in the inner doorway blocking our entrance until we had, awkwardly, explained that we were coming for lunch and had reservations. It just didn't feel very hospitable and the only time the froideur lightened was when we were paying up. The food and location deserve five stars. But for the money and to live up to its reputation, The New Angel really needs to relax a bit and welcome its guests with more than ruthless efficiency and a grimace.

I took my wife to The New Angel for our first anniversary and won some serious brownie points in the process. I'd never (knowingly) been to a Michelen Star Restaurant before but I now see what the hype is all about, it was seriously some of the best food I've ever eaten. On arrival we were seated on the ground floor where the kitchen is in full visibility, John Burton Race the head-chef wasn't in that evening but you still got to see the other chefs in full flow. On being seated we were offered drinks, the waiter recommended a really nice and not extortionate Red Wine to me and on seeing my wife was pregnant suggested a non-alcoholic cocktail which was a nice touch. My starter of scallops was beautifully done, however my main of lamb with a creamed potato was incredible. The lamb was served very rare but was perfect, maybe not to everyone's taste but worth trying, let the chefs serve as they intend as it's well worth it. Stunning desserts that you have to leave room for, and a final drink in the cocktail lounge overlooking the Dart estuary. Brilliant evening out and surprisngly affordable, I've certainly paid a lot more for far inferior food in the past.

the food and service is exceptional. tasty food expertly cooked and presented. Also best desert i have ever had was here. white chocolate and apple tart! probably a bit over priced for what it is but good nonetheless.
