My honest review after being here a few times. Firstly it’s important to remember there are no bookings, so Sundays can get hectic and annoying if you want to plan a meal out then arrive and you can’t be seated for 30 mins. I think lots of the workers are lovely, specially the lady, nice service, real people and give of the vibe they love their job. Service I’ve found has been rough on Sundays, asked for extra gravy and took around 15-20 mins and to be honest I couldn’t eat without it, found my roast very dry. The food is okay, it looks lovely and you must say in general the presentation is incredible. However I find every meal I’ve had specially the breakfast is just no where the same amount of food I’d get anywhere else. I think the pub roast is okay, the meat is good, potatoes are very dry and the Yorkshire is okay.

We have been eagerly anticipating the opening of the Angel since we heard the owner of the Red Lion and Sun was taking it over. Not just because there is a shortage of good restaurants in Highgate but because the Red Lion and Sun is the best by far. We’ve been to the Angel three times already and the service has been very warm and extremely accommodating. We were served by Gary tonight who was very charming and recommended a lovely Malbec to pair with my Wagyu cheese burger. The food is honest pub grub and the cost is reasonable. The wine menu is fantastic and the vibe is quite lively without being too loud. Currently there is no way to book a table but we haven’t had an issue yet. Give the Angel a try, it’s slowly becoming our new regular and we love it.

Wow! We are almost reluctant to post this review because it's tempting to keep this place a secret. We want to come here again. Many times. There is no booking service, so we expected it could be a little wait for a table. Not so today - Sunday lunch, but it's July, that may be why. We had the roast rib of beef with all the trimmings. It was excellent. I am Coeliac, but I was able to have everything apart from the gigantic Yorkshire pudding. With roast potatoes and beef as perfect as that, I didn't mind. My partner had a good beer, and a gorgeous sticky toffee pudding but I was so happy at having a gluten free meal with real gravy that tasted non-compromised that I didn't care I couldn't have either. The service was really good too, our attentive server made me feel gluten-safe and both of us felt very welcome. Top marks all round really.

Under new management from the same people as the Red Lion. Lovely and spacious, friendly staff and very welcoming to our little one. Had beautiful roast beef and pork and a delicious stick toffee pudding. Other food also looked great. Definitely recommend!

Came to try the renewed Angel. Popped in for a quick drink, but tried the Jerk Chicken Wings on the menu, and these were probably the best wings I have ever had. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu!

I visited this pub for a Sunday roast at noon and it was fantastic! We had a mixed meat platter to share and the quality of the meat was impeccable. The plate was well-varied, and everything was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was great and the service was friendly. It’s also a dog-friendly spot where you can help yourself to treats, water, and blankets for your furry friends. Prices are very reasonable for Highgate. Highly recommend!

What used to be a nice gastropub, with new management has really gone downhill. Wooden tables have been replaced with plastic marble. Chairs have been replaced with a lime green bench. Dogs sitting on tables, children racing around. It's so loud that it's difficult to have a conversation. The food is good as is the service.

I am so happy we have the new improved Angel in Highgate village under new management. It’s brighter and more elegantly decorated. The food has been absolutely delicious every time I’ve been, as you’d expect from its provenance, but the warm welcome from the lovely female manager, and cheerful friendly service makes it a delightful experience. I keep finding reasons to come back. Bravo. 🙌🏻

Yelp
Wanting a classic pub lunch, I popped into the Angel Inn. The atmosphere was good and was very busy. The menu was quite extensive with lots of choice. We ordered salt and pepper squid, scotch egg, fish and chips and the ultimate burger with sweet potato fries. The food took quite a long time to come - probably as it was busy. There was also a whiff of dishwasher/cleaning fluid in the air as the kitchen directly opens up onto the seating area. When the food arrived I fell in love with the warm scotch egg, however, I wasn't very keen on the fish and chips. I felt like it lacked crucial flavour and crispness. The pricing isn't too bad for the heart of Highgate and I would probably go there again - I just wouldn't order the fish and chips.

Yelp
Virtually snowed in at the top of The Hill this weekend there was nothing else to do, but while away the afternoon at the pub. Out of the many great pubs to choose from in Highgate The Angel Inn is one of my favourites so we headed over. It's a lovely, cosy place, with original 1930's wood paneling and gorgeous open fires mixed with trendy couches and tasseled lampshades hanging over the bar. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, and during the day you will find anyone from 20-somethings to families with babies and dogs all enjoying a drink. The music is usually good too (think Mumford and Sons and old classics such as Portishead) creating a nice, chilled out ambience. Whilst in the evening, it becomes more bar-like and large groups reserve tables for various celebrations. For me though, the food is the main attraction, and if you like pub food you will not be disappointed. Everything here is served up in hearty and delicious portions, from "Cumberland Sausages and Mash" to "Pork Belly, Sauteed Leeks and Bacon Mash", it's all scrumptious and served promptly with a smile. What can I say, it appeals to both the Yorkshire and Greek in me. The bar men are very friendly and polite too so if you add them to the amazing food, great drinks (this is one of the only places I can find bottled raspberry beer) and a great venue, it certainly deserves the title of a fantastic local. Top Tip: The Sunday Roast is to die for.

Yelp
I cycled here. Up a hill. I almost died. It was a big hill. I ate chips. I played card games. I then rolled all the way down that hill home.... Weeeeeeeeeee This pub is awesome. In the area it's one of the only places with a decent food menu on a Sunday and a great Bloody Mary. It's not cheap but this whole area is quite expensive so it keeps up appearances and you'll hear a muddle of American and posh British accents chatting away on the average weekend. Eating here I can see why they call it a "gastropub". It's normal pub food, done properly. There is no microwave involved and lots of fresh veg with homemade sauces. It's a winner for Sunday lunch.

Yelp
After a wander around Highgate Cemetery, we stopped here for some food and drink. It had been recommended to me previously and did not disappoint. I've been to a few pubs in the Highgate area and this is by far my favorite. The beer selection really deserves a shout out! There are some standards on tap, but try one of the ones that don't sound familiar. I had a pint of lager called Bragging Rights that was absolutely delicious. The bartender offered to let me sample a couple before ordering and seemed more than happy to do so. The staff all around was great. On a Saturday afternoon, the place was absolutely bustling. We had some food which was also really delicious. While we didn't have a full breakfast, someone nearby did and that looked amazing, as well. I would definitely stop back in here next time I'm up that end of the hill.

Yelp
Okay, I'll go first, thanks. Honestly we were only here for a quick heart warmer beverage before my mates wedding down the street at the Catholic Church. quality ales and it was quite busy on a saturday for lunch time. The food looked really really good and so I would have loved to have had a nibble, but that wasn't in the cards. I loved the feeling and atmosphere in here and especially the fireplace which was throwing some decent heat into the place.

Yelp
Cozy little pub in the high street, delightful bar staff only thing missing is a nice fire. The champagne was cold and crisp.

Yelp
We went in for a traditional Sunday lunch. There was obviously a large party going on at the end of the pub and it clear straight aways that they took precedence as customers. On the menu the roast pork dinner was described lavishly so we ordered two. Problem #1 `was that the waitress didn't speak very good English and we would have been served with two 'nut roasts' had I not have spotted her error. The dinner arrived quickly, as did problem #2, which was that the portion of pork was incredibly small and there was no crackling as promised on the menu. When I queried this I was told 'we've run out of crackling'. Didn't stop them selling it to us though and shamelessly taking our money without mentioning this fact to us. Problem #3 was that my daughter ordered sausage and mash which arrived a full 20 minutes after we had finished eating our watery lunches. After sitting and watching her eat it we asked for the bill; my wife told the manager that we believed we had been short-changed with our food. It was obviously, she said, that we had been served the leftovers of the roast pork. He brazenly agreed but we struggled to get him to give us money off the bill for a really, really disappointing experience. First and last time that I will ever go here. There are far better places around in Highgate - if you want to save yourself a truly terrible experience I advise you to steer clear of this place.

Yelp
Good pub with a good selection of ales and beers. Right in the middle of Highgate Village. Interior is quite nice with some sofas and comfy chairs. For me it just lacks a bit the feel of being a traditional pub. I would give it more stars, but compared to other options (e.g. The Flask) it feels a bit like a chain pub if you know what I mean.
google avatar

Yelp
I found the Angel Inn to be a mixture of 'mehs' and 'pretty goods'. The interior, for example, is fantastic: warm, slightly ye olde, with leather chairs, wooden tables, lamps on the walls etc. A world from the tacky modern atmospheres too many new pubs can have. Ditto the beer, of which there was an impressive range, including the likes of Beaverbrook, Camden, London Fields, Meantime and too many others to list, alongside the usual Guiness etc. The service however was slow. There were plenty of punters but for most of the time, only one person behind the bar. Another person appeared, but didn't appear to be able to understand English, even when I rephrased, broke down and repeated my question three times. And then the food was a bit meh. Fairly good value, but lukewarm and bizarrely miserly with the vegetables (the cheapest bit of a Sunday roast!). Overall thus? Just about A-OK. I'd definitely return for the beer (as long as there were sufficient servers behind the bar), but not so much the food.

Yelp
Much like an Angel this place is a lifesaver. There's free WIFI, which is good if you are on business travel and you don't want be eaten alive by roaming fees. Couches by the fire place allow for a cozy experience. Peroni on tap is just simply the icing on the cake. We liked it so much we had a return trip for brunch on Saturday. Theirs is a modern take on the traditional English breakfast, complete with black pudding (which I may have reconsidered eating if I new what was in it beforehand :)

Yelp
Awesome local pub with two fireplaces! On a chilly evening few things beat sitting in a comfy leather chair next to a real fireplace sipping a pint. The staff are really cool, and the selection of both cask ales, and other brews are varied enough to please. I haven't tried the food here yet so I can't comment on that, but I will next time I go. Great little pub, highly recommended if for the ambiance alone.

Yelp
This Pub has a wonderful charm about it on a cold wintery night in North London. Friendly engaging bar staff always make for a welcoming introduction. Beer was good, location was very interesting, cool 70s music, bad bad bad bad bad burger. Sack the chef that made it. Once the spoiler is gone, this place will be a great evening haunt..

Yelp
Had a great lunch here today on our way to Highgate Cemetery. Server was Jess and he was friendly, helpful, and efficient.

Yelp
In the heart of Highgate Village this is half bar half pub. Friendly staff who make an effort to make you feel comfortable. And the best bit? Minty from Eastender's fave haunt.

Yelp
Possibly one of the worst pubs in North London. Went there for a quiet Sunday dinner and looked up some good gastropubs with fireplace in highgate. We decided on Angel Inn and it turned out to be really poor choice. Called in advance to confirm what time was the kitchen open till and if we could reserve a table. The waitress said 9.30 pm for kitchen and reserved us a table by the fireplace which was empty at that time. We turned up at 7.30 pm and of course, we didnt have a table! Anyway, the ambience was fine - the fireplaces were out of order and the staff didnt bother wasting their energy with a smile. Our starters arrived totally cold. The croquettes were basically chilled on the inside! When we went to order the mains, almost everything was unavailable. I asked if the waitress could come to the table to explain to the party of 4 what was available but she didnt take too kindly to it. Eventually after about 10 trips to and fro the bar, we managed to get some order in. Additionally, at around 8.30 while we were looking at desserts while waiting for our main, the waitresss said that if we wanted desserts we had to order them with the main - and advised that the desserts were going to come WITH the mains. I enquired that the kitchen is still supposed to be open for an hour but all she did was shrug. Eventually, the food that came was DISGUSTING! The steak tasted nothing like a steak and the flat bread was rubbery. We ordered Fish and Chips.. and when our food came - they were served with Fries instead of chips!!! Seriously.. fish and fries, folks?! We left half our food untouched and couldnt wait to get out of there. Super pricey and awful service with "disgusting" food - and I do not use that word lightly. Never stepping foot in there.

Yelp
I used to adore this place but in the last year or so it has gone down hill drastically. Nice pub with a good atmosphere but very average food. Sunday roast is bland with underdone potatoes and over done meat. Shake as its a great location but lacking in food quality

Yelp
Really nice place, chillaxed, yummy food especially the fish and chips and sticky toffe oudding. But just don't go for the house red and it is rather rough

Yelp
Great pub in Highgate. The manager was fantastic, very attendant and even brought my partner's daughter's glass of coke over to the table for us! He also told me that they do not have a minimum charge to use your card at the bar so no having to buy a load of crisps to bump your spend up to a tenner. I have only eaten the whitebait which was really tasty but the food here looks great and I will hopefully get round to popping in for dinner very soon!

Yelp
Terrible! Avoid! All of this apply: Undercooked, Not fresh, Too bland, Poor value, wasn't as described, didn't taste as expected. I had the roasted chicken on a sunday, which was awful. First there was nothing looking roasted, it was merely cooked propely, almost raw, and a terrible taste, I could feel the bad quality of the product, then I looked for the thyme (as advertised) which I couldn't find. The potatoes were undercooked, (I couldn't pitch my fork in them) , and some of them felt two days old, reheated. The celeriac undercooked and hard as rock as well. All the vegetables and sauce tasted very bad. I felt sick an hour after, despite leaving most of it untouched. My girlfriend took the halloumi starter and wasn't satified either, bad taste, undercooked etc...she left most of it. Then we asked for bread...bad idea...what we had was a piece of dry thing, obviously old and directly out of the freezer. Looking closer at it, we found...mould! It was rotten. When we flagged this, the reaction was pretty mild and nobody ever came back to apologise and bring us an other piece of real bread. Then we left. It costed us 25£. The service was terrible too, nobody checked if we were fine and I couldn't speak to a member of staff at the end as they were too busy and uninterested as I had to pay upfront. Appaling experience...

Yelp
I finished off a slushy Highgate pub crawl here today, and loved the place. We had a good range of wheat beers and ales on tap, friendly staff, a tasty pie and mash, a very comfy sofa and warm cosy relaxed atmosphere. The best way to while away a cold winter evening with friends. Definitely will be back to the Angel.

Bob W.

Yelp
Great little pub. Went to visit as I heard about the Graham Chapman plaque. Stayed for some food and had a few drinks. Really nice food and a good range of drinks. Left as it was just starting to get busy. Will be back for a night time session. Seemed like it had a friendly crowd. Good atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Qype User (Sweett…)

Yelp
Was the best pub in highgate before they got rid of oliver. Now is turning more corporate, leaning away from the traditional pub. However they have fantasic food, staff, great selection of drinks and a great quiz nite on wednesdays. Still up there with the top boozers in the area and well worth a visit.
