17 of the Best Breweries in Richmond, Virginia | Eater DC

"The Answer’s 56 taps pour a mix of inventive sours, super fruity quads, and smooth stouts. Thanks to the influence of sister Vietnamese restaurant, Mekong, the brewpub has one of the best bar menus in town, with options like rocket shrimp, crispy spring rolls, and pan-fried pork dumplings. In 2018, the James Beard Foundation named founder An Bui a semifinalist for Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Producer." - Stephanie Ganz

fantastic brewery with amazing food and a cool vibe. I forgot to take a picture of the banh mi because I ate it too fast, but high quality. fried dumplings were crispy and savory. wake n shrimp rice bowl hit the spot. I'm a stout head and they did not disappoint. took 2 visits to try it all. they have guest taps from Perennial and Prarie, 2 of my favorite breweries, but their own stouts managed to even top those. I had never heard of this place before this weekend but they belong on a short list of the best breweries in the US. if this place was near my home I would be here at least weekly.

First time visiting The Answer after several years and the beer was still great, the service was good but the food was not at all what I remember. I ordered the pork dumplings and they were really under seasoned and lacking flavor. I also got the pork belly banh mi and while the pork belly was crispy, the whole thing was really under seasoned and lacking salt. Maybe it was just an off day but I was disappointed.

Amazing beer and great food. Servers were clearly upset for some reason. It was a slow Sunday but there was something going on with them. They still provided decent service. Answer is a legend for the beer and it’s been going for so long. I had the bahn mi sandwich and it was great. Draft and food prices are reasonable. If I lived in the area, I’d be coming here a couple times a week.

UPDATED We have to update our review from last visit to our great experience today. We went to the video game swap again. We sat at the bar, enjoyed our flight and received our mushrooms this time. The bartenders were exceptional. We got a chance to talk with our bartenders. Hardworking individuals with smiles. Thanks and we look forward to more fun, drinks and food. ******************************************* Wife and I went to the video game swap etc. We have been here before and the selection of beer is amazing. I would love to to try the food but every time we go we just can't seem to get the service. We got there at noon. Ordered a variety of beer, which were amazing and then asked for mushrooms. Our first waitress was a waste of space. We advised her we had ordered and she stated because the restaurant was busy. After 45 min people around us that came later received their food. It really looks amazing. 1 hr later after we had received the bill the mushrooms came out. We tried to tell the runner that we had canceled but he seemed to run off as to not want to hear our experience. All the bartenders looked as if they didn't want to be there. A real shame. The young hostess was the only one bussing tables and seating people with a smile. God Bless here. She needs a freaking raise. Asset to this business but would be an asset to any company that recognizes the hard work she was doing. We stayed around for the swap and ordered from another waitress, just beer and it was quickly served. We then tried to order more beer but the 1st waitress was there and we decided not to order because of the 1st experience with her. This waitress doesn't know she could have had a great tip. I am not sure if I would recommend and restaurant that seems so chaotic.

Google
Wonderful brewery in Richmond, and probably the best we had in our east coast trip! You can find so many different flavours of beers here, they are all good and not artificial. We also had daily special noodles here, the portion is just absolutely huge and tasty!

We love collaborating with The Answer Brewpub! Their staff is always welcoming, friendly and helpful. They have an amazing menu of both brews and food and often run great specials and fun events! We love bringing our flowers and classes to this awesome local brewery. Highly recommend!

Google
The Answer Brewpub, located on W Broad Street in Richmond, Virginia, is a great spot for a drink + a solid meal in the neighborhood. My boyfriend & I recently popped-by for dinner while road-tripping through this part of VA, and I'm so glad we found this place!! The atmosphere inside of this brewery is cozy + comfortable, and the environment is very relaxed. The staff are very kind and helpful - they took great care of us during our stay!! For food, I highly recommend their Beyond Smash Burger (I love that they feature so many meat alternatives throughout their menu). This is a great spot!!

Google
Great bar with a truly massive beer list but make sure to try one of their “joose” drinks theres nothing quite like them out there. Solid bar food too particularly the Mongolian fries and Korean chicken.

The Answer Brew is always fun for a beer and quick meal. We have not been in ages, still great! Wednesday they have $5 Wake N Bacon!!!!!! Lots of tables and bar seating, 2 different outdoor seating areas They have a room of games too! Rice and noodle dishes, Banh Mi, smash burgers and an assortment of apps. BiG beer menu too!  Always great service, fresh food, fun atmksphere though it is pretty loud! What I ate: Crispy spring rolls Wake N Bacon  The Answer Luquillo Mojito My rating rationale  +1 Service +1 Food~Taste/flavor/quality +1 Presentation +1 Atmosphere/vibe +1 Value

Yelp
My favorite brewery in RVA! I've been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. The beer is top-notch, and they have some of the most interesting flavors/combinations the market. I'm a huge fan of fruited and sour beers and they have a great selection to choose from! They also recently updated their food menu. The owners are the same as Mekong, so you KNOW the food is amazing. Their food has always been fantastic, but they recently added a few additions, such as the fried shishito peppers. SO good!! Service is always great and the atmosphere is very family friendly as well. Would highly recommend!!

Yelp
Sometimes I really wish Yelp allowed for half stars. The fact that there are fantastic beers here is what will push me to give it 4 stars though. We love breweries and The Answer is definitely one that is known to be a destination brewery. We came into town on a Monday and arrived not realizing it was trivia night so the place was packed. They said we could order at the bar though and grab a seat outside. Just standing in line at the bar there were two young children under foot and one who even made their way behind the bar as the "responsible" adult was too busy going through the beer menu. Unfortunately these kids continued to run around unchecked while we tried to relax with our drinks. I realize this is a hard position for the brewery and I don't fault them. I will say the menu is extensive and it's probably a good idea to look online and get an idea what you would like. We knew what we wanted right away as far as food, which was the tofu Banh mi. Unfortunately, they were out of it. The bartender suggested the wake 'n tofu (fried rice) and we ordered that and a side of dumplings. The dumplings had too much dough with not enough filling and were bland. The rice was very bland, even when adding the leftover dipping sauce to it. We ate, as we were hungry but it was disappointing. They offer flights and just give you a sheet of paper and a pencil and you can fill it out yourself. We sat outside where it was quieter to figure out what we wanted and chose a flight of sours. They are known for heavily fruited sours and they did not disappoint. They had a very wide variety with some unique fruit combinations. After we each picked out a stout (though one we wanted had kicked) and the stouts were thick and flavorful. When leaving we grabbed one of their adult capri suns, which is a pouch with mead that comes frozen. I picked the PB&J Cheesecake flavor and it was the perfect treat. You could always find something here on the menu to please your taste buds. We made a return visit as they had a few new stouts on draft and we were hoping the get the Banh mi this time. It comes with fries and we added a side of beer cheese. The fries were hot and crispy and the beer cheese was good. The Banh mi was flavorful and packed to the brim. Next time ordering it there was way less in the sandwich and it came with fewer fries. That kind of inconsistency should not happen in a restaurant and I still don't know which way it should actually come. The service overall was pretty good, especially since they were busy. However, I do think they needed some better communication and organization. The one visit had a sign that said 1 1/2 hour wait but we were told we could order and sit outside. The next had the same sign but she said we could only order beer as no food orders would be accepted. However, seats opened up at the bar and the bartender said it was no problem to sit down and order food. Also the to go cooler is not self serve and the employees must get it for you. The one downside is not being able to look at dates. You should drink crowlers relatively fresh and we were unaware we were buying a crowler which was already a few weeks old at that point. Overall, I would definitely return. If nothing else all the beers we had were really good and some were outstanding. I would definitely check the website for events going on and try to hit at not peak hours. They do update the online draft list frequently which makes it easy to see what is available and have an idea what to order.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting The Answer Pub. The location is interesting. Kind of tucked away behind a building. Not a problem. In my experience some of the best places look the most obscure. The decor and vibe was a little off. There are some Asian decor and an Asian food menu, yet the whole place has a very American feel. Not sure what the intention is there. Maybe they have sacrificed environment and decor to focus more on their beers (which are amazing). The food was mediocre. I had the Pork Belly Banh Mi which had a couple of thin strips of pork belly. My partner had the shrimp Banh Mi which was slightly better. Food is not this places forte. The beer was amazing! The selection, incredible. I'm not a stout or porter fan but I just couldn't pass up some of the ones they had on tap here. The Blanton's German Chocolate was my favorite! The service was also incredible! They were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. If you're looking for a great beer experience, I urge you to check out The Answer Pub.

Yelp
What can I say, this place rocks. What's not to like? With more beer on tap than your local grocery store has in its cooler, you can taste to your hearts content. Let's go over the food here. Just wow. I got the pork belly Greeknamese pita bread sandwich. It was phenomenal. The flavor of each ingredient just meshed perfectly. As a picky eater, I anticipated removing the carrots or wiping the sauce on a napkin. To my surprise, I was wowed. My wife ordered a bowl of one type or another and she absolutely loved it. The food and drink is great. Our server was fantastic and kept our water full. The inside is pretty cool. There is an area for music which wasn't playing and a large bar with seating. Off to one side is a game room where I took a panoramic photo. Such a cool place and definitely worth your time and money. I could go on about all the beer choices but it would take forever. Give it a shot.

Yelp
From the street, this place doesn't look like much and if it wasn't for word of mouth, I would have never stopped here. Once inside, it had a great atmosphere. Lots of seating on the deck and inside. There were too many beer creations on tap that they produce to try in one visit. I had two flights so I could try out 8 beers. I tried lagers, farmhouse, stouts, IPA's, and Sours. Every one of them was great. The servers were all young kids and not 100% helpful. They didn't seem to have any knowledge of their product except for what they liked. But, overall they were friendly and served up the brews quickly. I was told by locals that you can order food from Mekong but they no longer do that. They have their own menus now. No big deal, I walked around the corner to Mekong and had an amazing Vietnamese Basil Chicken dinner which was amazing. Next time I'm in Richmond I will definitely come again and bring some people with me.

Yelp
I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times where a well-reviewed restaurant on Yelp has turned out to be a bust. Sadly, this was one of those times. I came here with two friends from out of town recently to give it a shot. One of my friends is Vietnamese and the other loves burgers, so I felt this would be a slam dunk choice. The lackluster service when we arrived (and throughout) was my first clue that this was not the "match made in heaven" I was hoping for. Our server was absent most of the time and clearly disinterested when present, did not ask if we wanted more to drink, did not check in with how the food was, or make any other appearances. I've been treated better at fast food spots, to be honest. To an extent, it was probably a good thing that the server didn't make any inquiries about how things were going, because we would not have had much positive to report: the sandwiches and fries were largely flavorless (despite my "An"imal Burger being covered in sauce, it was just a heap of nothingness), the ambience was non-existent (I felt like I was a package at an Amazon sorting center with the way the dining area was designed), and this was all despite the prices being relatively high. Usually in life, you want fast, good, and affordable, and you have to pick your top two. Here we got none. I reserve one star reviews for places with no redeeming qualities, and The Answer does have two great qualities to save it from that fate: 1) the beer menu is fantastic, and I am now a convert to Jackie O's Dark Apparition, which is probably one of the top three stouts I have ever had. I do not want to come back here but if someone wanted me to take them to a bar with a good stout, I might make an exception just for this beer, 2) They have a ton of parking in the back of the store, which is a welcome change of pace for Richmond where parking spots are becoming increasingly rare and expensive. If you're looking for an elegant selection of craft beers and don't care about ambience, you could give this place a shot. If you're looking for food, fun, or fantastic service, keep on looking. Overall: 2.0 stars ---- Pros: - Outstanding beer menu, and I highly recommend Jackie O's Dark Apparition stout. - Plenty of parking in the back of the store makes this an easy visit. Cons: - Some of the worst service I have received in years, which is impressive considering how low the bar has fallen in the restaurant industry since turnover skyrocketed. - The food is bland and flavorless and I apologize to my tastebuds for even deigning to finish it. - Prices are high, despite the low value provided. - No ambience to speak of. We sat at a table instead of the bar, so maybe the bar is nicer, though I would never consider bringing a date here regardless.

Yelp
The selection of beers and other spirits is awesome. I'm a big cider gal and my bf is a beer guy so there was something for both of us. Love that they have an arcade area for the kids and the food is great! So happy to have found this place as we moved from the Hampton roads and miss our local breweries there. This place is such a gem

Yelp
If you are in the area, The Answer is a must stop. They brew a wide variety of beer. Everything from IPAs to Joose beer. I had the Cosmic Gumbo. A very good hazy IPA with a citrus and floral aroma. It has a great tropical fruit flavor. I sat at the bar and had great service. The bartender was full of recommendations and allowed me to sample multiple beers before trying. The "AN"imal burger (named after the owner) was very good, but very messy. It turned into a knife and fork burger, which is fine by me. One thing that would typically be a negative didn't matter this time. Dogs are not allowed on their outdoor patio. I typically travel with the pups but didn't have them this time. Keep that in mind if you have the doggo with you.

Yelp
The Answer Brewpub is an outstanding space with delicious beer and cider choices and fantastic food! They have fantastic appetizers, I got edamame's and some friends got egg rolls and shrimp chips which are to die for!! I had gotten a cider called A Little Iniquity and it was from NH! They also have fantastic Beyond burgers that even come with Vegan Cheese! I can't have dairy so it was exciting that they had that as an option! They have fantastic hours!

Yelp
A legendary institution among beer geeks and one of my favorite spots on earth. But what really sets The Answer apart from 99% of other brewpubs (other than their truly exceptional brews) is that it's so inviting to everybody. Even if you don't like beer or might be intimidated by the huge tap selection, no problem! They have something for anyone's palate and ALWAYS a friendly, helpful and well trained staff ready to assist. Cozy and inviting atmosphere, absolutely no beer snobbery happening here. Maybe not new and modern but it is clean and comfortable. Interesting and tasty menu with plenty of shareable options or multiple individual items to choose from as well. The beers and meads range in styles from A-Z and come from all over the world to a good % brewed right there. I'm a huge fan of their fruited Sours (Joose) and Stouts because they are loaded with intense flavor but still balanced and very drinkable. Their Lagers (other traditional styles as well), IPA's and Seltzers are also exceptional.

Yelp
Awesome place with a great selection of brews and food. The food we had was great! I will say the server was straight forward and honest and said sometimes the pork they have is dried out and not as good, thankfully the day we were there it wasn't. The bread was amazing it was fresh and extremely tasty. They had a bunch of old school arcade games that appeared to be off unless I'm crazy. Nice crowd for a Saturday night. Wasn't super busy but also wasn't dead, just makes the energy feel alive when there's more people! Can't complain overall. Service was on the slower side but not terrible. Solid choice, can't go wrong here.

Yelp
This place rates extremely high on UnTappd as being one of the best breweries in the country so I decided to check it out yesterday. The parking and entrance are in the back so make sure you drive around the back where there is plenty of parking. There is an indoor and outdoor area and the service here is great. I really enjoyed doing a 4 beer flight. You can get beer brewed here as well as some offerings from other breweries such as Trillium and Monkish. Overall, I enjoyed the experience. They have a Vietnamese style food menu with a lot of offerings and a good amount of Sours if you're into them. I enjoyed the beer other than the Sours as I'm not into Sours at all. It has a cool little vibe to it and I can see why its such a popular place.

Yelp
Happy Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month! I am a huge fan of both The Answer and his Vietnamese restaurant Mekong next door. While Mekong is more of a nice, sit-down, calm type environment, The Answer is a bar with more of a bar vibe, but still with great... Vietnamese/Pub Fusion food. Not a fusion you normally see, but it works. Obviously, they have beer and lots of it, but I am a sucker for their $5 Wednesday Wake N Bacon, I really like the Rocket Shrimp, but their Banh Mi... I LOVE their Banh Mi. I will preface this by saying that Vietnamese is one of my top 3 favorite types of foods. I have eaten a LOT of Banh Mi sandwiches in my life. The cilantro jalapeno creme makes the biggest difference imaginable and elevates a sandwich that is generally pretty standard fare. Lots of them just use slices of fresh jalapeno in the sandwich, so you get bites of sandwich, and then every other bite has an overwhelming heat as you eat a raw jalapeno... This one kind of levels out the heat throughout the sandwich, and balances it with the cooling creamy base and the fresh and tangy cilantro. It seems weird that I have written a short story about a sandwich now, but I do feel very strongly about sandwiches. Especially this one. Stop by on a warm summer night when it is too hot to cook, and have an ice cold beer and a fantastic sandwich. I have never once regretted it and hope you won't either.

Yelp
What can I say about The Answer Brewpub other than it's the greatest brewery in Richmond, VA!! The food to the brews are absolutely rocks, the brews the male are just awesome, even if you aren't a beer drinker I would bet there would be a brew you would like. As for the food, let's just say you need to order the bacon fried rice as your first meal and you are welcome but seriously you can't go wrong with any food item on the menu. Now for the staff, they are great group and are helpful with answering g questions and making sure you are having a good time and enjoying yourself. The brewery is fun and inviting and has an arcade area towards the back that has some awesome throwbacks to my childhood and teenage years, they definitely want to make you feel comfortable and make sure you have a good time with the games.

Yelp
Lots of choices on draft and a pretty lively evening for a Monday (Trivia Night). We tasted severy hoppy IPAs and settled on the Heh Heh Heh Hrr Rrr Heh Heh Heh Heh Huh Rakau! Ha Hrr. It is a great beer. Reminded me of Ghost in the Machine from Parish Brewing. The Kimichi Burger looks amazing in pictures, but it was very underwhelming (good curly fries though), and I think it was because the bread was hard/dry. A better bun with some butter on it might have made it actually tasty. Nothing special about the atmosphere unless you like video games. So I'm lukewarm on the food, but definitely worth a visit for the beer.

Yelp
While the Answer may not serve the absolute best beer in Richmond, no other brewery beats it for selection. The taproom boasts over 50 choices hitting most of the major beer styles. There truly exists something for everyone, from hazy IPAs for the hop enthusiast to draft hard seltzers for the beer averse. Most of the libations are brewed by the Answer itself, though the brewery also offers a healthy selection of guest taps from across the country. The options can feel overwhelming, but fortunately the bar staff generally are helpful with ordering and allow for ample samples. Furthermore, the Answer is one of the few area breweries that serves flights. $14 gets you four 5oz pours of beer, which feels like a good value given that some area breweries serve 10 oz beers for $10. In terms of the beers themselves, my wife and I have enjoyed the pale ales and sours we have tried over multiple visits. While the individual beers may not match up to the absolute best in the city, the quality is generally surprisingly good given the number of beers on offer. The vibe of the tasting room feels a little divey (in a good way) with simple chairs/tables and old school arcade games. The brewery also boasts a small covered patio which is great when it's warm outside. Even during peak times, we have never had issues getting a table. Parking is plentiful. The Answer represents a low key option for a huge selection of well priced, solid beers. It's one of me and my wife's favorite places to get a beer in the city and makes for a worthy stop on the Richmond craft beer circuit.

Yelp
WOW! This place has incredible drinks! My boyfriend and I are big gamers (board games, video games, you name it). We came here on a date to play games and have some beers. Unlike breweries we're used to, there seemed to be a sit down section where you had full table service for food and beer. We were seated there first, but the speakers were blasting in his ear, so we chose to sit in the section where we had to get up and order beer on our own. The decor was cute. I appreciated the Mario themed wall. They also had one of those fun multiplayer Pac-Man tables. I'm not the biggest beer person. I tend to gravitate towards ciders or sours. There is another brewery I enjoy that does smoothie style sours and for the longest time I thought they were the only ones who did it in Richmond. That other place only has one or two of those smoothie style sours at a time...this one had OVER 10!! They were under the "JOOSE" section of the menu (which is just my kind of humor). I'm definitely coming back to try more. Here is what we tried: The Answer The Vibes (Passion Fruit Mai Tai) Sour - Fruited Gose / 4% ABV SOOOO DELICIOUS! This rich, sweet drink made me feel like a Greek Goddess sucking the nectar from the finest passion fruit. Yes, sounds ridiculous, but I don't know any other way to describe how much I loved the flavors in this drink. Thick, but not sickeningly heavy. Sweet, but just enough. The Answer Rum Lychee Painkiller Fruit Beer / 8.81% ABV These fruit beers are made for a tropical island. I went in the middle of snow and still felt like I could be in Bora Bora. The rum mixes well with the lychee. Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Wheat Beer - Hefeweozem / 5.4% ABV My partner enjoyed this a lot. He told me it was reminiscent of his all time favorite beer. The Answer does offer other beers that aren't made by them!

Yelp
Um food horrible and people serving scared me lol. Beer awesome: so if you want good beer go but people that don't scare you no. One girl literally rolled her eyes when we asked for change for the games that by the way took our money and didn't work. We left quickly and will NOT return. Again good beer, people serving NOT nice and food well terrible except fries. My pad Thai we think didn't even have the sauce added but at that point we just wanted to leave.

David C.

Yelp
Love the bahn mi's however I like the French bread they had before. Still very good but was excellent in the past.

Yelp
The food was just OK. The beer was awful. I have been to many breweries, and their stouts were the worst stouts I have ever had.
google avatar

Yelp
A nice setting hidden away, whereas the entrance is in the rear. I have passed by it many times wondering why did I only see the tanks. Today I had time to investigate. I sat at the bar and was serviced immediately. Nothing like drinking Richmond beer and relaxing.
google avatar

Yelp
These folks not only know craft brew they are one of the godfathers of craft. They were serving and creating craft brews before it became the coolest thing around. The selection at any given time are going to exceed your expectations and delight the tongue.

Yelp
Great service, food and drinks. We sat inside, but there was a nice outdoor area as well. We had the Mongolian beef fries, battered mushrooms, spring rolls and and steamed dumplings as snacks and I would recommend all four of them!

A lot of fun Great beer quantity and quality Delicious food Like other viewers noted, the food came out at different times which was a bummer but very little complaints here

Yelp
When I first pulled up I was unsure of whether or not there was a front entrance. Plenty of parking and entrance is in the back. There is indoor and outdoor seating. I got a flight of four: Blueberry mango triple swirsicle Morning phase passion fruit lemonade Quad mother is strawberry guava swirsicle Quad berries btone. Loved their drinks! I truly enjoy sours and fruit beers so this was right up my alley. I ordered steamed pork dumplings to share with the table which were delicious. My friends shared the animal fries and spring rolls. Spring rolls were a bit too greasy for my taste. The animal fries were good and loaded with toppings. I was honestly not impressed with my burger. The party was falling apart and it was a bit undercooked. Thankfully I like a more rare burger, but I could see how this would be off putting to some. It was not very flavorful, but the "special sauce" (mayo based sauce) made it more palatable. I asked for some of the kimchi on the side which kicked it up a notch. Servers were kind and helpful, but the whole process of ordering and getting our checks did feel a bit unorganized. Items got jumbled amongst the group and some orders came out 30 minutes after everyone else got their food. I must note that the restaurant comped these food items without us asking which was much appreciated. Overall I would definitely go back for drinks, but I would probably not order food again other than the steamed dumplings.

Yelp
It's been just over four years since my first visit and review. During that trip, I was spending a weekend away from my home state and checking out Richmond for the first time. I had no idea I'd move here several months later. As of yesterday's visit, I've now ticked 201 beers at The Answer, making it my top venue on Untappd. I've also consumed countless wake n bacons, because that dish is culinary genius. I'm so glad it made the cut when they transitioned their menu last year. The burgers and fries are also delicious! The Answer's response to the pandemic has been great. Tables inside are considerably spaced out, and their newish deck area is awesome. I spent hours out there with a few friends this weekend, and the servers did great jobs and were so friendly despite the higher volume of guest traffic! I've had countless good times at The Answer in the years since moving to Virginia, and I look forward to many more.

Yelp
Hidden gem, from the road it looks like you are turning into a warehouse. Ample parking around the back, walk in the back next to the deck to be greeted by a hostess. Big space with indoor and outdoor seating. Appetizers and burgers/sandwiches with a Vietnamese flare are available. Jolly, pleasant staff, music and over 35 beers on draft. Their plethora of sours was my initial draw. Thick joose, these sours are like smoothies. I had pork spring rolls (2) and pork dumplings (5-6) to eat. Both authentic, served with dipping sauces and arrived warm and crispy. Stop in, take a minute and enjoy some adult Joose. Will be back!

We come here anytime we are going through Richmond but today was even better. We had the Valentine's dinner special and wow! Great deal and it was delicious. Then best though was our amazing server, Grant. He was a rockstar. On top of everything and a very nice guy. A thanks to Grant and the other staff that was so friendly.

Yelp
Quick Review. Baseball tournament in the area and we only had two hours for dinner. Informed our server and he said he would inform the kitchen. I told him to fire apps and meals together. Beverages were ordered and came in about 20 minutes. Orders went in and after another 45 minutes, a member of the kitchen staff came to say they 86'd two items, could we order something else. At this point, we're about and hour and a half in. We modify orders to "something quick". Food comes, we shovel it down and get out in about 2.5 hours. They discounted the check. Beers were great. Food Good. Only wish service we could've got what we ordered and in a reasonable time.

Yelp
The flights are super fun and so is the food. They have something for everyone and you'll enjoy the playfulness of this pub.

Yelp
Stumbled upon TAB several years ago on a road trip to Va and recalled you could only purchase crowlers on limited days a week, so unfortunately I had never been back. On a recent road trip back to Va I decided to call to see if they offered crowlers to go on that particular day. Great news they offer them everyday now! I was able to find one of the old beers I fell in love with. I brought a few back to share with others who now love the brews and plan to travel to get their own stash! Worth the stop!

Yelp
Fantastic food! They always have a fantastic beer selection too. Servers are always nice and helpful. Loud and fun space, the type of spot where you can't really chat very easily without yelling so that might be something to consider.

Yelp
Not worth the hype. Food was cold and the beer was mid. Disappointed and I won't be coming back. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Yelp
Decent Beer.... Helpful staff. I went to order a flight & the girls behind the bar were very helpful when choosing the right beers for me. However, sitting at the bar & listening to the employees complain about big tables coming in during a Saturday lunch, was a bit annoying.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! If anyone needs somewhere to host an event or birthday reach out to the GM, Brandon! Him and his team were great! Planning a surprise event was super easy and Brandon made sure everything was ready leading up to the day. Great beer and food selection!! Always one of our favorite spots to go to in Richmond!

Yelp
Stumbled onto this gem. Probably drive past 100 times but never thought it would be this cool inside with open spaces housing arcade themes and eccletic poster n stickers, and cool outside with a patio lit with globe lights. They have beers from other breweries but their own creations are AMAZING. We ordered two flights to share: every stout was extra smooth and creamy, the jooze were like buzzed sweet fruit smoothies, and the passion fruit gose was perfectly tart and puckery. The food was also super satisfying and filling. The Asian-flare food choices are great - I wouldve loved more kimchi on the burger or even on the side but the burger itself was very nicely cooked with just a hint of pink inside. Shrimp chips were awesome and fries are nicely seasoned too if you aren't adventurous for the heavenly crunch of the chips. We're already planning the next outing here. DEFINITELY worth checking this place out!!!

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this location for a while and finally had the opportunity. When you first pull up, you think there is no parking. But the entrance is around back and there is plenty of parking! The place opens at 4 pm and we got there 15 min early. There were already 5+ cars of people waiting in the lot for it to open. Popular place on a Friday! There is indoor and outdoor seating. The inside area was very open and fairly large. The menu of beer is only on a QR code.. The vast majority of the beer menu is IPAs, sours and fruit beers. Unfortunately, I am not an IPA drinker at all. We tried some of the sours and they were ok. Too sweet for me overall, but the Mai Tai one was pretty good. I was hoping that there were be some selection of lagers, pilsners or ambers but there were none at all. Before coming back, i will check the beer list to see if the beers change some with different seasons. Pretty cool place and the waitress we had was very nice!

Yelp
Busy brewpub with a vast selection. Went in and filled out the form to get some flights of beer. On the flights tried out fruit and IPA selections. Everything was good. Staff was polite and ready to help. Food is came out quickly and made to order. Plenty of parking out in the back indoor and outdoor seating. Nice place with a good atmosphere.

Yelp
Food and service are always great, (eat at Mekong whilst you're here!) the beer selection is second to none. The restaurant is rundown, dingy, and outdated, but those are sometimes the best places to find phenomenal food and beverages

Yelp
I love the beer here! The staff is super friendly and very conveniently located. Definitely plan on visiting them again when I need a good brew.

Yelp
Lots of Taps - And A Lot of Fruity Beers We stopped in for dinner and to try the beer. Friendly service, large portions on the food. They have a lot of fruity beers, sours, stouts and IPAs. Fewer lagers and no Trappist style beers, so not as many that happen to appeal to me. Their fish and chips was a nice portion and fresh. The calamari was very light and fresh and served with a Vietnamese style sweet sauce. The place looks like it really hops without COVID. The parking and entrance is in the back.

Yelp
Beers are very interesting, had a couple of their smoothie (thick beers) one was a froot and the other the rum barrel job, which I wasn't expecting to be "thick"- they were both pretty tasty! Service was lacking, took a while at the bar to get waited on at 3:30 and then they didn't put an order in for food...we didn't know until 45 min later when we went to get the bill- when pointed out the server acted surprised even though they were the one who took the order (with an appetizer that was delivered). Would recommend with the caveat that servers seem pretty aloof.

Yelp
Wow! Never would've imagined an Asian Fusion Brewery mixed with a Vietnamese restaurant! I was definitely impressed with the concept. Loved the atmosphere. I enjoyed how they had arcade games and game boards while waiting or to play while waiting. I was impressed with the beers as they tasted delicious! I thought it was pretty clever how to order your flight of beers. You write them down and they bring back to you on a clipboard placed in numbers so u know which is what. The food was amazing! I had the Brussels sprouts with egg noodles. The sauce made the dish not taSte bitter and was perfect. Can't wait to return and wish they had something like this in the 757 area.

Yelp
Ate at Answer brewpub for Friday nite dinner. Very surprised how rough the service was. We waited more than 15 min before anyone approached us about drinks and another long wait before they arrived. Aftering ordering food ...same issues. Our 5 dinner items trickled out of the kitchen I hate spending half my time at dinner turned around in my chair trying to flag down the waitress. To be fair the food was good. Smash burgers, hangover banh mi and a shrimp pita sandwich. Im hopeful the next time will surprise me in a good way

Yelp
We LOVE The Answer and make sure to come here on every trip to Richmond. I am reducing by 1 star because they have changed out their food menu. The owner's brother (I think) retired and so their awesome Vietnamese menu is no longer. Tried a few items but was overall unimpressed. But the beer??? Incredible. Take a lyft or taxi so you can sample everything!!!

Yelp
Stopped in on a Tuesday night and it wasn't too busy, which was nice. I believe it was Happy Hour all day Tuesday, so beers(flight) were half off! I got a paper in a clipboard and got to write four beers that I would like to try out. I chose Pineberry, BlackBerry, Imperial 3 Scoops, and Triple 3 Scoops. Those were the fruitier beers that I have ordered. As for the food, I ordered Bun Chicken Noodle Bowl also known as vermicelli. The drinks came out first and then the food came out. Everything was going great until I found a plastic wrapper in my eggrolls. The waitress was apologetic and nice enough to not charge me for the meal. She told me that if I wanted additional drinks it would be on her. I was already full, but thanked her for her kind gesture. They only make beer at The Answer. The food comes from Mekong. They're two separate buildings and businesses. It's pretty good, and they get food from the shop next door. The food is so tasty. Most breweries don't have kitchens because of health code and ABC reasons. They just work together. Their juice-like sweet and sour beers are dangerous. They are very good at what they do. It's hard to rank breweries when there are so many niches to carve out. It was good, most of their Gose are on the sweeter side, which is refreshing for a sour beer. They are the best beers for people who aren't really beer people.

Yelp
The variety of drinks here are amazing. As one of the first breweries I've been too in Richmond, I can definitely say I'll be coming back on my visits to the city. The sours/fruit beers here are delicious and they have a big selection to choose from. I ended up bringing home a few 4-packs home as well! If it's your first time here, I'd recommend getting a flight to get started. I had a few beers from "The Joose", and they were all amazing. My favorite was Quad Mother of Mango Swirlsicle: Pink Guava. I heard stouts here are worth trying too, I'm just more of a sour person. As for COVID, seating was spread out and all of the employees were following good safety practices. I'd highly recommend giving this place a try if you're ever in Scott's.
