It is a very nice theatre space. I went to see a play there recently and was impressed with the production. The actors were all very talented, and the seats were very comfortable. They validate parking for the city parking structures a block away, so parking was just $1 for 4 hours. Highly recommend this theatre company!

A great addition to the Glendale community greatly lacking in a resident theatre company. The Antaeus Theatre Company moved from the heart of North Hollywood to Downtown Glendale. It is situated below an outdoor mall and near numerous restaurants. They offer a season filled with both classics and premieres in an intimate setting.

Great place for intimate theater. Fine productions and really terrific actors. They now validate parking at the structure up the street, so it's only a dollar.

Beautiful, little theater. Professional performances. Accommodating. Local parking. $1.00 (one dollar) for 4 hours of parking with theater validation.

I got an amazing deal on tickets through an app called TodayTix. In fact, it was such a good deal that I had very low expectations going in, but I saw Shakespeare's Measure for Measure and it was amazing! Shakespeare can be very challenging for a small company to do well, and they knocked it out of the park! Intimate, well kept theater, incredible cast, nice direction. Will definitely be returning in the future!

Just got back from a performance of MacBeth. Supurb! I'd never heard of this theater company before but when a friend told me she was going to see it and would I like to join her I said sure. I am very glad I did. Tiny little theater and very minimal set, props and costumes but that just left the actors free to carry the show and they most certainly did that well. If you like live theater, if you want to support fine work, you must see this company!

Great theatre with wonderful people. Staff is great. Location is terrific. The worst thing is there is a public lot across the street so plenty of parking but not on the property. The location seems to have endless possibilities

Yelp
We caught the opening night of "Measure for Measure", the first of 4 Shakespeare plays across LA we got tickets for this spring. Honestly, the others will have trouble measuring up to Antaeus Theater Company. Every actor had dug deep into their character and delivered a brilliant performance. The director obviously had a clear vision for what she wanted and delivered. The double-casting of major roles seemed a little "stunt"y at first, but the actors provided nuanced performances in each role. One actress did five different characters and each felt like a new person onstage -- and incredibly, she's cast as the demanding lead role on other nights. Beyond that, it was a great pleasure just browsing in the library before the show. These people love theater, and it shows in every way.

Yelp
Antaeus is a fabulous theatre company with amazing productions and stunning performances. I have seen three of their last four plays, Liaisons Dangereuses, Hothouse and Three Days in the Country. I have seen breath-taking performance in all three of them. Also, it is located just off Brand and Broadway, so you can easily find a nice place to have dinner before going to Antaeus.

Yelp
I had been to a fund raiser at the old theater, and was pretty excited to go see "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" at the new digs (plus one of my good friends Mike McShane was playing Big Daddy, so it was going to be double fun). Wow. Just Wow. This place is really awesome. This is a small black box theater with a huge theater feel! Super classy and well designed. Every single seat in the house is a great seat, and the production was top notch. The stage work was wonderful, great lighting, the sound was perfect, the acting was second to none. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this place. If I had to make something up, it would be the addition of a concession stand during the intermissions, and maybe streamline the credit card procedure. But that's it. Overall, it was a great theater going experience. Bottom line? I'll be back. You need to go, if you haven't already. Great place for date night.

Yelp
So glad this theater came to Glendale! I recently saw Three Days in the Country here and had a great experience. The ticket purchasing process online was super easy. And the check-in process was very organized. The seats were comfortable and I liked the updated design of the small theater. The show itself was fantastic and every seat in the house had an awesome view. The parking was convenient and I love that it's walking distance to a bunch of restaurants. I will absolutely be visiting this theater every chance I get to check out all of their shows.

Yelp
This review is about the two Shakespeare Courses I took at Antaeus. One with Elizabeth Swain and the other with Armin Shimerman. Both are excellent teachers with different approaches to the text. I took Swain's course first, as it helped me with the fundamentals like warm ups, diction, sounds, and sonnet work. Armin's class taught tons of history and literary devices, and was more performance based as we rehearsed monologues and scenes every week. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
I just saw a play at this theater over the weekend and I absolutely loved it! It was small and intimate, about 5 rows of seats. But so cute and cozy. The actors were all very talented and the show itself was great. I'm so excited to see more plays here!

Yelp
Uncle Vanya is a must-see production. Kudos to the adaptation! The direction was superb. The acting was so good and came across so natural that I felt almost like a voyeur. The musicians were integrated seamlessly and they were really good on instruments and vocals and the direction choices regarding the songs were very clever. And giving the final perfect touches were the lighting and audio which completed the all-important illusion of Place in many varied ways. However, the true star of this production is the story. Chekhov has a way of making humankind both tragic and inspiring, repulsively base yet stunningly attractive. His stories are bitter yes, but so sweet that you weep in empathy because his characters were conceived a hundred years ago and yet they are you. You will recognize you in these characters, and if you see this show you will come away knowing yourself better and truer, I guarantee this. Usually the hubby and I like to go out for a nightcap after an evening of theater because we are amped up and need to blow off steam and have lots to critique about the show we just saw, but after seeing Uncle Vanya at the Antaeus in NoHo we were stunned to the point of silence, so we quietly went directly home, satisfied to just sit and think more about the tale and characters and excellent production we had experienced. And we are still discussing it today, still thinking about the lessons of those characters. Thanks to all involved, especially Mr. Anton Chekhov.

Yelp
A fabulous experience began by checking the L.A. Weekly calendar http://bit.ly/ICkvid which highlighted The Antaeus Co. Production of David Ives script The Liar written in 2010 is a "translaption" of the frenchnplLe Menteur written by Pierre Cornielle in 1643 which itself was adapted from a Spanish play La Verdad Sospechoso by Juan Ruiz de Alarcon. The play (in its final night of performance) was sold out but I arrived at 7pm when the box office opened to put my name on the wait list and was able to secure tickets. The script and acting were well paired and directed. The small black box theater located in the Noho Arts District used an extremely simple set which allowed the vivid lies of the main character Dorante all the more room to come to life in the audiences mind. If I've intrigued you about the play here is a brief guide that gives you historical context and plot of both The Liar and its inspiration Le Menteur http://bit.ly/1b8oQms

Yelp
I recently saw another production at Antaeus--Peace in Our Time. It was in previews, but this was hard to believe--the production was that good. This is one of the best theater companies in LA. Note that Antaeus has two casts for every production. In other words, the cast alternates from one night to the next. It would be worth seeing two nights with difference casts, just to see how the different actors interpret the same roles.

Yelp
This is a new under 99 Actor Equity house. The space is perfect for small black box performances, however this is not a hole in the wall. It is a professional well put together space with professional players. The space is not for grandscale productions but excellent for well acted stories. There is not a truly bad seat in the house, at least not the way they had it set up for "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

Yelp
Broadway caliber performances and productions. Truly the hidden jewel of the Los Angeles theater scene. Their current production of The Hothouse by Harold Pinter is exemplary. Go see it. Don't miss out!

Yelp
Great little Theater with good acting ! I am glad that Theater is still around even in Los Angeles. I saw a fantastic play there called Wedding band with REAL actors and it made me realize that we have to support little places like that, the Arts and actors that give their heart and soul to the theater without sometimes getting paid.

Yelp
Amazing and reasonably-priced theatre productions. Usually classics, although sometimes some more recent stuff. Regular company is astounding good and includes Hollywood/TV types and Broadway folks. They do readings of plays over the summer for $10; we saw Arcadia there and it was amazing. Why isn't this place sold out every night? I guess because Shakespeare, etc., will always be a hard sell -- but if you love theatre and you live in LA instead of NYC, this is the place to go!

Yelp
Amazing. Situated right in the heart of the NoHo arts district this little gem of a theater put on some of the best live theater that I have ever seen. Really powerful actors and performers. Great choices of plays and they do SO much with so LITTLE space. I had the pleasure of seeing "Mrs. Warren Profession" here and I didn't know what to really expect. I was completely engrossed and blown away at the caliber of the actors and performances. Great play that I had never heard of, funny, heartwarming and sad all at the same time. Wonderful. I will definitely be back and it is a great date spot as well.

Yelp
I attended a performance of 'Oedipus Rex' and it was a fantastic experience. This performance had very high production value. I will definitely return for more shows when I'm in Los Angeles. Parking was easy too.

Yelp
I saw my first production of Antaeus and I'm already a huge fan. I saw The Crucible and was absolutely nailed to my seat from the very first few seconds. For me, it was truly astonishing. And I was literally weeping at the end - not just tears, but shoulders shaking, trying to pull myself together .... I was rocked! I thought I didn't like The Crucible but wanted to see the inimitable Phil Proctor, so I brought along some friends to soften the blow. But I realized I had never actually *seen* or *heard* this play before. The details, the complexities, the brilliance of the play .... so clear and so deep in this production. Wow. And what lovely people I met after the show! The actors I spoke with were all so kind and generous. Highly recommend Antaeus! Can't wait to see what they do next.

Yelp
I've been a fan of the Antaeus Company for over 9 years, yet they continue to surprise me with both the quality and variety of their productions. Antaeus is a small theater that does big things. It's probably one of the best theater companies in Los Angeles. It certainly has the most talented ensemble of actors, all of whom bring passion to their work and give the impression there's no place they'd rather be than on stage at Antaeus. Many words can be used to describe the company -- classy, creative, ambitious, exciting, fun, and unconventional. They're equally adept at drama and comedy and the works they chose to do are always fascinating. They often take a fresh look at classics like Shakespeare's "Macbeth" and Arthur Miller's "The Crucible". They're also good at unearthing seldom-produced gems like Noel Coward's "Peace in Our Time" and Shaw's "Mrs. Warren's Profession". Two of my favorites were a haunting production of Brecht's "Mother Courage and Her Children" and a charming musical called "American Tales" which was based on short stories of Mark Twain and Herman Melville. Antaeus is an intimate theater where audience members feel like participants in the drama. If I had one quibble with them it would be that parking spaces on Lankershim, other than in designated lots, are often hard to find. Still, it's worth enduring this minor hardship in order to see the varied and thoroughly wonderful things they do at Antaeus. Rich R.

Yelp
Going to a production at the Antaeus is a treat. My mother and I used to go downtown, or to Hollywood, to see plays. Now we can see world class productions without any commuting stress. One can not find finer actors and directors anywhere. Their production of The Crucible was riveting, as was King Lear, and everything else I've seen at the Antaeus. Having classic works brought to life in this lovely theater in the valley is one of the great things about living here. Also, the staff is very accommodating and friendly.

Morgan L.

Yelp
I have seen four productions at Antaeus and they have all been excellent. So many people don't like classical works usually because they see a poor interpretation of the play. Thank goodness for Antaeus for always presenting these works in the manner they were meant to be presented- proving that these beautiful plays are just as relevant and human as they were when first written. They keep theater alive.

B B.

Yelp
Antaeus will always provide good theatre, thought provoking, intelligent, moving ,funny and sometimes extraordinary. In my view their latest offering, 'Uncle Vanya' is a solid effort, but left me a little unsatisfied and confused. They offer up an eclectic mix of sets, music, costumes, acting styles (and experience) along with a sometimes jarring new translation that tend to defuse the production with a somewhat too casual tone. I felt in an attempt to update the play and serve the inherent comedy in this piece they lost some sense of characters who are deeply suffocated and frustrated by their own expectations, era and class. Oh well, I'm still thinking about the play so I guess they succeeded, lol. Antaeus is a gem, I'd gladly recommend to one and all.

Joe W.

Yelp
I've been to the Antaeus Co. only once, but I hope to see another production soon. This past May, the company put on a version of "The Crucible" that brought tears to my eyes. It's a very emotional piece, as well as serious political commentary. Working with a text by Arthur Miller doesn't hurt, obviously. But the acting was fantastic and the staging intriguing. At intermission, I walked down to the first row and looked all over the set at inscriptions that had been made part of the set decor. I probably spent five full minutes reading and thinking about the decor's relation to the play, and it made the second half of the production all the more satisfying. I think it's the intimacy of the environment and very high professional standards that made that show unforgettable.
