The Anvil Pub and Grill

Breakfast at the Anvil is amazing. The food not only looks beautiful it tastes amazing. We went this morning and the atmosphere was great, staff was friendly and the French toast and husbands steak and eggs were fantastic. The biscuit looked beautiful but was not good. But everything else was for sure a 10 out of 10. Felt like the pricing was really good too. I really don’t know why they aren’t filled for breakfast with how the food looks. Excellent presentation skills.

We recently completed a balloon installation and LED Marquee setup at The Anvil and it was an absolute pleasure working with their team. They were welcoming, organized, and made the setup process smooth from start to finish. The space looked fantastic once everything was installed, and their staff was great about coordinating timing and details. Highly recommend working with them—beautiful venue and wonderful people!

It was our first time here. It was my husband, myself, and my two-year-old. After our server realized we were ordering waters, he acted different towards us for the rest of our experience. I wasn’t impressed by the food either, we ordered the wings and the sauce had barely any flavor to it. We got the burger and you can tell it had been sitting in the window because the bread was super soggy. Having been a restaurant manager for eight years, I was more upset at our service. We won’t be returning.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was friendly and inviting. My wife and I enjoyed our food. We will definitely come back for dinner one day soon.

Went on 1/20/23 around 1 pm. Got the fish and chips and the Anvil Burger. The fish and chips were good. The burger was awful. The bottom bun was soaking wet like it had been sitting in water and it was quite frankly bland. But that's not the reason for the bad score. Our waiter took our order and we never saw him again until we were finished. My wife ate her entire meal without anything to drink (she finished her water before food arrived.) I guess the cook brought our food out we told him we needed water, salt and malt vinegar but we never got any of that. It was some of the worst service I've had in a while. I tipped anyway but this is part of the reason people don't tip well anymore.

We were seated on the patio immediately for lunch. The server was very friendly and efficient. The food was prepared well with high quality ingredients. Loved the house salad with grilled chicken. Also ordered some pub fries extra crispy for the table as an appetizer. They were also delicious.

The food was ok, not great. Service was good and the pub atmosphere was nice, except it smelled kinda funky - maybe from frying fish with old oil ? I will probably give it another chance and try a different entree next time. I think the prices are high. Pub fare entrees at $24/plate was a surprise. There was a steak entree for $48💥. We paid about $90 all in for two entrees (fish and chips and bangers and mash), a cocktail, and a draft beer. That's a little high in my book for a weeknight out after work. Check it out and see what you think. I will.add an update when I return. Update January 2026: Returned for some appetizers and drinks. Sat at the bar and had multiple TVs on various sports events. Bar tender, Jenny, was attentive and the service was great. Had a couple small plates to split and enjoyed them. Beer selection was good. Enjoyed it. Still found it to be a little expensive.

The food was good, not great. It came down to personal preference for me with the monk fish being a little off for me texture wise. Of course this was my first experience with this fish. Everything else we ate was good. Loved the atmosphere and the style inside.

Had a great dinner here! This is much more than a pub. I think the name doesn't do it justice. This is located in the shopping center near the movie theater. My first impression was that this was a lot fancier than I thought it would be. The dinner menu looked great. Hubby got the fish and chips. He let me try it and wow, that was some good fish and chips. It is not something I would normally order but I would get theirs. Very crispy, fish was flavorful and not dried out. I got the Thai salad with pork belly and shrimp. I was nervous about ordering this because it seems weird, right? It was fabulous!! The Thai salad had a little heart that was just right. Every bite was delicious. I would order this again and again. I had leftovers and we were going to be out for a couple of hours and I really wanted to take it home. They were super nice and gave me a bag full of ice so I could put it in my cold bag in the car and have it for lunch the next day. Service was great. Can't wait to go back and eat here again!!

I've been to the Anvil pub once for high tea last year and it was delish! They served lots of different finger sandwiches along with pastries and tea. This time I stopped by for lunch before heading to the movie theater nearby. I started with the fish dip but I can't remember what type of fish it was. It was okay, it didn't wow me enough to try it again. I also tried the burger, which was also just okay. The patty could have used some seasoning but the fries were good. I sat at the bar and service was swift and friendly. It wasn't busy so I got to take up space lol. The venue is really big and has a room on the side where you can host events. They also have outdoor seating but it was way too hot to go out there.

Sitting at the bar is our thing if it is just the two of us. Their bar is huge, wide and beautiful. The two bar tenders were very helpful and sweet. We decided to just have drink and nibble, so we ordered the cheese board. It was the perfect way to start our date night before we went somewhere else to eat. We have eaten here before and love it but we wanted to hop around town and not be full. Food here is always great. They bring a taste of London to Birmingham.

THINK OUTSIDE TEA-POT! Came here on Saturday with some friends. This pub has food that comes in very close resemblance to what you would find in European countries. I had never been here prior, but could tell I was going to love it by first stepping inside. It gives off a very European vibe from the decor and set up. I was here for one of their high tea experiences. They offer high tea once a month, and post it on their Instagram and Facebook right before RSVPs become available to the public. I highly suggest keeping an eye on their socials if you are interested in attending high tea. Tips are included in the total price when paying your tab. So it might look expensive, but that is a very common practice in other countries. This is a good sign and means that their employees do not rely on solely tips and that they are treated well. This is something we love to see especially in the food industry. I wish that other restaurants would do this. Service was a little odd, there was a young man taking care of our table, but he did not seem to notice when we needed things and we had to hunt him down several time and as for different things multiple times. The tea experience was a lot of fun and I highly suggest it. Especially if you have out of towners in town visiting or just for fun with some friends of your very own. I'll be back for sure! Would love to explore their menu or maybe sit back and watch a soccer game with a beer on the weekends.

Sundays are for brunching! My wife & I went to an old favorite for brunch today, The Anvil Pub. The Anvil is an upscale British pub that serves seasonal dishes from local farms with an international twist. You'll find everything from Korean, to Middle Eastern, to southern inspired dishes & everything in between. I had the Sunday Special which was Eggs Benedict featuring fried oysters, English muffins, truffle aioli, hollandaise & poached eggs. I can't resist enjoying my fill of oysters while they're in season (I abide by the foodie rule of only eating oysters in months which contain the letter "R"). They were cooked beautifully in the crisp, seasoned batter. Very enjoyable. Even more so with the lovely truffle aioli & hollandaise. My wife had the Fish & Chips featuring beer battered cod, chips, mint peas & tartar sauce. A dish we've ordered from here a dozen times, but there's a reason for that...it's delicious! The fish is flaky & moist with an excellent crunchy batter. Perfect with the homemade tartar sauce & a dash of malt vinegar. We brought a piece of Old Fashioned Pecan Pie home. Pecan pie is one of my absolute favorite fall desserts. The Anvil's did not disappoint. I love The Anvil's atmosphere. I'd describe it as opulent yet still relaxed & casual enough. It's a great place to watch soccer with other fans if you're into that, as they air many of the games on the big screens at the bar. If you're not, hopefully you won't mind the occasional excited cheers from those enjoying the games. Great beer, wine & cocktail selection. My French 76 was terrific. Say, our server, took really good care of us today & enhanced our experience. A very nice Sunday brunch.

I heard this was a British-style pub, so in my head, I was expecting futbol on the TV with Manchester United jerseys all around, Ted Lasso style. This is not what The Anvil is. The Anvil is more of an upscale, calm, date night, kind of bar with chill 80s music, a nice outside eating area. The British pub bit comes in with food such as the Bangers and Mash and the Scotch Egg, the international beers and the dart board.

First time to The Anvil Pub and Grill. Didn't love it and didn't hate it. Hubby and I got the hummus to start with, it was good, and then we shared The Roasted Chicken Pie. Presented beautifully but a little dry even with the gravy. Cocktails were yummy... our waiter was awesome... Great service!! We will definitely be back to give it another try even if it's just for the Cocktails!!

Love this restaurant. Have eaten here several times! Atmosphere is great and inviting. Staff is very friendly and professional. Had the fish and chips and my wife had the fish tacos. They were both incredible.

After an early movie we walked over to relax on a coolish night. Outside dining was our choice, can I say a Good choice. We ordered drinks and 2 appetizers. Tomato soup, comes with a grilled cheese sandwich. A summer time treat, let's do it again type of good. The second appetizer was new to the menu, New England fish cakes served on top of white & yellow corn, red onion, cilantro relish a remoulade or aioli that brought it all together. Another summer classic. Dion was there enough to take care of our needs. This place is getting better all the time.

We love lunch at The Anvil! Come hang out with Patrick at the bar & he will take care of your every need. The Scotch Egg was on the menu today & I honestly can't believe Bobby Flay beat this one. You have to come try it! Also, best fish & chips this side of the pond.

The anvil is absolutely fantastic. We've stopped in a couple times for meals and attended their saturday afternoon tea yesterday and loved it! Located in the Doug Baker shopping area, The Anvil is a refined British pub with a menu that includes seasonal ingredients and is influenced by different cuisines from across the globe. We've tried different things- the fish and chips is EXCELLENT, with perfectly fried, crispy fish and well seasoned chips. They have an afternoon tea one weekend a month, and the reservations book up quickly. The tea itself was just perfect. Located in a private room on the side of the pub, with white cloth covered tables, delicate china, classical music playing on one television and rolling pictures of the British countryside on the other, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Everything was delicious, but I think our favorites were the salmon and dill sandwiches, lemon tartlets, and a bowl of whipped herb butter to spread on our muffins. We each received a complimentary glass of champagne and had a variety of teas on the table to choose from. It was a wonderful experience, and I can't wait to go back!! As we left, the bar area was super crowded with soccer fans, but they seemed like a fun group

We go almost every Wednesday for wine Wednesday and we always sit at the bar so we can talk to Pat. The food is always amazing but the best part is Pat. He is what keeps us coming back.

We had dinner here this time. We chose to sit outside and experience the outdoor ambiance. There was an activity going on inside so it was very noisy. After sitting I became cold. Returned to my car and got a jacket. I noticed there were draperies attached to the patio so I asked if they could be drawn to keep some of the breeze off. She said ok and pulled the draperies. Another person came and opened the draperies, not saying anything to us about his decision. I asked about it and was told they couldn't close the draperies. I wish he had said something . We were the only diners out there. So I said I was still cold. She said she could turn the heater on but never did. Now for the good part. Charles was our attentive server. He answered our questions about the pub menu. The spinach with oysters was wonderful. Didn't realize it was big enough to really be an entree. The pork item was good was good, a little salty though. The meals were great! I enjoyed everything except eating in the cold.

Delicious food and great server, just a bit slow to get settled with service initially. Loved the outdoor patio and vibe.

Tried it a couple weeks ago, and went right back the following weekend. Great place for drinks and food for sports game or just social gathering. Great cocktails, good brunch menu items, and plenty of seating. First time around, I had the fish and chips. Honesty, it did not blow my mind and I did not have it again the following visit. However, the anvil burger... oh my, this is one delicious and perfectly cooked (medium rare) burger with melted gruyere. To die for. Totally worth the try for all comers. My friend had the breakfast sandwich with their housemade sausage, and said that it was also worth a try for all. Overall, aside from the fish and chips, I thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails, burger and service from here. Will be back again!

The anvil was fine, for a local restaurant. The food, drinks, atmosphere, and staff - all fine. But it is not a British pub by any stretch of the imagination. There are no British beers on tap, the closest is an IPA from Germany - 1! Also, no British food. The food is advertised as upscale. It's fine but there is nothing upscale about a burger. They use fabric napkins. Maybe that's what they mean by upscale. There is nothing wrong with the pub but it isn't what advertises itself to be. Color me disappointed.

Best burger in Birmingham! Sy and Patrick will make you feel right at home. Just remember they close early on Sunday.

Not a huge selection on the menu but every item I've ever had was great. We loved eating there so much that we had our wedding rehearsal dinner there. We love the bar and Steve, the bartender. Nice atmosphere.

Anvil has a wonderful patio and the staff is always friendly. Cocktails are amazing and change throughout the season as does the entree menu. I was so disappointed in the meal my server recommended. The butternut squash risotto was so bland and there were only six flavorless shrimp. The burger is amazing and always hits the spot!

Had lunch on Sunday after the lunch rush. The food was ok but the service was horrible. Approximately 13 customers at the bar top. The server behind the bar was only attentive to the guys drinking at one end who were watch the television and the 3-5 people at the other end. When you aren't even given your silverware and napkin setup and having to ask anther worker for a refill to your drink after almost 30 minutes is ridiculous. What a waste of $50 for a single person's lunch. Definitely won't patronize this business again and will definitely be sharing their incompetence with others

Cool atmosphere with excellent food. Everything is always prepared in an interesting way and just a fun place to go.

The food here is AMAZING!! I've only been here twice with family but the foot is extraordinary. Defiantly recommend!!

We showed up for a late lunch and not only were we greeted and welcomed by the most friendly staff but we had the opportunity to taste cocktails and awesome food! I totally recommend this place!

Great service, delicious food, and delightful ambiance! We had a wonderful time for our girl's lunch. Brussel sprouts were delicious, and the charcuterie boards were a big hit too!

Breakfast never disappoints here. French toast is to die for. Nice atmosphere, unless soccer is being played then it's CRAZY loud at the bar and can be heard all over the establishment. Staff always kind and attentive.

I had the fish and chips and they were as good or better than what I've eaten in London. Friendly bartender. Looking forward to going back and trying other dishes

Brought a group of 35 people there on a Tuesday night, with each ordering off the menu. The servers were prompt and courteous. The food came out of the kitchen so quickly that I was amazed. Oh, did I mention the food?! It was delicious. I had the homemade tomato soup for an appetizer. I only ordered a cup, but before I finished it I was wishing I'd ordered a bowl! Prices are very reasonable, too!

Had the tomato salad and wings this go around. The tomato salad was off the chains. You need to get the bread with it to sop up all the juices. The wings have really good flavor with the smokiness and the slightly sweet sauce. Sat at the bar and the bartender was really entertaining. Had the Anvil Burger with Stilton cheese last time and it was very good. Great little pub. Love this place

My partner and I visited this establishment on a whim and certainly didn't regret it. The patio is shaded perfectly! He did not sweat one bit. He enjoyed the cocktails as well, especially Lady in Red. I couldn't decide between the Tikka Masala or the Tamale, so I got both! Combined we enjoyed the smoked wings, Tikka Masala, and the Tamale. Coming from someone who can't have a lot of fried wings or salty food, my man loved his dish. We devoured all the plates. We were full but wanted to see if the dessert would taste just as good. The peach cobbler was fantastic! My boyfriend jokingly said an "i'm sorry" prayer for loving this rendition more. Don't walk, RUNNN to this place!

Very friendly service! Menu is small, but the food is really good. They keep their dishes on the simple side, which is really lovely for a relaxing and quiet brunch spot. They also have a dog friendly patio!

I can't believe I just found out about this place! We attended a private tasting at this event called "The Tour of Italy". It was outstanding to say the least. So much fine quality food and wine. I can't say enough good things about the food and service. I will certainly be back!

I can't say much more about this place that hasn't already been said by other reviewers. We go there most Sundays, and I have their Sunday special. It is always different and unique. My wife has the fish 'n chips. The servings are huge; the service is flawless; and the food is cooked to order. If you are into sports, always some kind of British sports on the tvs, and the bar patrons really get into the games.

Tasty and creatively prepared meals - We shared the charcuterie plate, and then had the Guinness pie and steak for dinner. Everything was ideally prepared, and complimented by specialty drinks (the Passion Pina was amazing). We were too full for dessert. Service from Kenyon was attentive and energetic. Now the asterisk For those of us who have a flat behind, the seats on the patio were the least comfortable I've ever experienced. They look cool, but it's worse than sitting on bleachers. I'd certainly return to the restaurant, but I'd likely sit inside on a hopefully more comfortable chair.

I thought it was way overpriced. Very good service and decent food though. Nice atmosphere too. Proper English pub with some authentic touches! I like the dark blue colors inside! Maybe worth it for a date to impress.

We have come to Anvil for several years and always thoroughly enjoy it. The British inspired entrees are all excellent and relatively unique to this area.

Where do I start? Brittany is the most knowledgable and energetic bartender - The food was mindfully crafted, the decor was uniquely designed, the atmosphere was fun. If you plan on a girls lunch, double date, or friends grabbing a bite, block out a minimum of 4 hours, as you will find yourself eating and drinking your way through. A hidden gem - will DEFINITELY be back!

Very tasty food, very attentive service. I had a great experience. They had a large wine menu as well as a nice cocktail menu. Beautiful patio area for you to bring your pups! I liked it a lot.

Am I dining in Birmingham, England or Birmingham, Alabama⁉We partied with the good people at @theanvilpub last week for their 2nd Birthday Celebration That's right, Anvil Pub opened in the THICK of the pandemic and is still out here serving brunch, lunch, dinner, and high tea !! This upscale British pub is soooo worth the journey over the mountain We started with one of my favorite appetizers of all, burrata with tomato chutney and grilled bread for dipping Jake ordered hanger steak and I ordered seared duck breast . The menu features all the classic British favs (fish n chips, lamb pie, tikka Masala!) and many other fancy-ish dishes - making it PERFECT for a fun unique date night! I love this place and I'm absolutely DYING to go back for "High Tea" I'm ready to channel my inner British citizen ‍‍

Food was good and service was extra! I would eat here again. Clean, nice restrooms is always a plus.

This is a great pub. Authentic British food, beer, and drinks. Great vibe. Wait staff is always kind, cordial, and willing to help in any way. Lively crowd and lots of fun.

We went around 2:30 on a Sunday. It wasn't too busy and we were greeted and seated immediately. It's a huge place and the ambiance is nice. I ordered the Girls Trip cocktail, which was meh. For food I got the fish and chips and my mom got the Burger. The portion sizes were huge. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious. The burger was great too. I am glad we stumbled upon this gem! Definitely will be back!

Ya'll what a gem! We found this pub randomly while out with my MIL! Kudos to this place opening right at the top of the pandemic and making it! First off the aesthetic is so nice - beautiful and large outdoor space, perfect for social distanced lunches. We actually came back a second time and enjoyed lunch on the patio on a sunny day. The indoor space is very nice with a long bar and spread out seating. Love the British pub menu - fish and chips hands down my fav on the menu, the fish sandwich would be right behind it! It's also a pub that shows premier league games and when they have a crowd, the energy is so fun! Can't wait to come back!

Don't bother going to this place. Bellini's is better. In fact, Applebees is better. My son and I dined here tonite, and it's just ok. Expect to pay premium prices for a very average establishment that can't decide whether it's a sports bar or a fine dining restaurant. Son had a $16 burger and I had the fish. Again, just ok. The "computers were down" so everyone was forced to wait quite a while (8:00 pm) to pay their bill. Nothing was offered in return for our trouble. In fact, I was unable to use a gift certificate that was purchased on the Anvil website because of of computer problems.". Servers, who were pretty good and polite, were embarrassed. I felt bad for them. Doubtful this place will last. Too many good places to eat in the Birmingham area.

Great spot for a dreamy charcuterie board & nice selection of wine! Can't wait to come back here to try their lunch and/or dinner!

As a L.A. girl temporarily living in Chelsea, AL, I've seriously missed finding inventive, hipster restaurants for foodies like us. Anvil Pub & Grill fills that void BEAUTIFULLY! Everything we ate was surprising and delicious. The service staff worked as a team to spoil us rotten. And that burger. OMG that burger. Best burger I've had in the south! If you love REAL food, don't miss this place!

Service and atmosphere is excellent. Food was really great but after three trips wish they varied their menu more, a couple of specials or something. I would add a ribeye to the menu. Great charcuterie board, exceptional.

I was here during the European cup. It was wild and we were all seeing football cheers together. Go here if you're a Liverpool fan I understand the owner is and Liverpool fans go here. I like the seating outside. I'm glad Lee Branch finally has its own pub. Can't say much about the food haven't had it yet! I couldn't find my favorite German beer of course but I found a rare import from Belgium.
