I love this place! What’s funny is I didn’t like this place growing up. So going back after 15 years I guess there have been some updates and changes. The bar is very nice ! I also appreciate all of the mindful merchandising for all the people who are going to skyline Drive to either hike or just drive! I was able to purchase some ciders along for the ride. The donuts are just to die for that those have not changed . You don’t have a choice you need to buy these damn donuts and you need to buy enough to bring home. Microwave them for 10 seconds and just take a bite. It’s amazing. The sandwich I had was the grilled cheese brisket! The brisket was super moist and super soft and the crust of the bread was crunchy. Throw some barbecue sauce of your choice. This sandwich was phenomenal. The cowboy salad which didn’t look appetizing, ended up being one of my favorite things there! Highly recommend it!

Google
We visited her June 21, 2025 for lunch. It was delicious food! Great Reuben and Kids BLTs. The Apple Cider Donuts were delicious. You can even watch them being made by a little machine behind the counter. They have the coolest shirts, socks, hot sauces, signs and many more amazing items. The restraunt is located in a quieter area. Definitely a must see or even worth a detour for the experience!

Google
Loved the experience here. GF brought me out to the mountains for my birthday for canoe trip down the river. We stopped here for breakfast and we came back for lunch on the way home. 10/10 recommend on your travels. Ps the donuts are 🔥

Google
Pros: - Reliable quality. - Few people. Cons: - Long lines and long wait. - Minnimal parking. My experience: Service was unnecessarily long. I waited 1 hour for an average bacon cheeseburger. I also want to point out that the donuts are overrated. They are slopped with cinnamon sugar and dry on the inside. Since there are mostly good things about them I'll get them again in case I got a bad batch. Recommendation: If you're in the area it's a nice spot to go to. Overall it's similar to a poorly executed Cracker Barrel.

Google
10/10 AMAZING! One of the best dang sandwiches I done ever had. Not to mention the apple donuts, also a 10! It was so delicious. This place not only had probably the best food I ever ate, but a cute little store with lots of natural items, and funny little toys n such. You won't regret stopping here. I'll definitely be back ❣️✨️

Google
Awesome apple donuts and blueberry loaded pancakes. Really enjoyed the gifts shopping. Keep in mind you order first, find a seat and then they'll bring your food to you. It's busy. Seating I side and out on the patio.

Google
This place rules, absolutely amazing chaos and charm. The whole place is a maze of Virginia food and gift options. The food was great specifically the BBQ pulled pork and they had a solid lineup of local craft beer and cider on tap. Service was friendly and quick. Stopping here was a recommendation from a friend and I’ll be paying it forward and doing the same with recommending it other friends.

Google
The hype is real… made the 1hr drive and it was so worth it. The Apple butter donuts are unreal!!! Their Apple Fritters taste phenomenal as well along with their breakfast, the biscuits surprised me! I was drooling the whole time

Yelp
Tried the egg breakfast sandwich today. Had a lot of different options between bread, meat and cheese. I got it with sourdough, country ham and pepper jack, and it was great.

Yelp
Came by after hiking Old Rag and this place was just what we needed. The jumbo pulled pork sandwich was really solid--tender, flavorful, and a generous portion. The sides were great too. I had the brisket sandwich as well, which was fine but definitely not the highlight. They had a nice variety of good ciders on tap, and the bartender was super chill, which made the whole experience even better. Came back the next morning for breakfast, which was actually really good--especially the sausage and pancakes. Definitely hit the spot after a long day outdoors. The vibe here is relaxed and welcoming. There's also a big gift shop with local goods, snacks, and souvenirs--worth checking out while you're there. Great spot overall. I'd come back again for sure next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Was golfing out 66 west and stopped in the Apple House. In addition to amazing Cider Donuts made fresh on site, they also have very good food. BBQ Pork Sandwiches, burgers, brisket grill cheese and steak and cheese are among the tasty options. There is also a a gift shop and a pub like area with a bar in the building. Stop by grab some fresh cider donuts and have lunch. The Apple House is right off exit 13 on 66. It's a great find if you have never been there and your taste buds will thank you.

Yelp
So I've never taken a photo her cause everyone eats the food too fast. Let's put it this way.... I live an hour and a half from the Apple house and if I am anywhere near it is a special detour stop to go to. This last trip we drove an hour out of our way to go and guess what?! It was worth it. I got the brisket grilled cheese and was a pound of brisket on delicious bread for 14 bucks ... can't beat that. Everyone is always super friendly and wonderful. The donuts we always buy at least a dozen to share with people. If you aren't going to Apple House.... What are you even doing with your life?

Yelp
We stopped here for a quick bite after having apple donut cider at a cider. The reason for this was the apple cider donuts. I had the jumbo pulled pork sandwich, hush puppies and wings. I enjoyed my meal. My wife had fish, which she didn't really like and enjoyed the coleslaw. The service was good and it's a cute country store. Nice experience.
google avatar

Mat G.

Yelp
Pretty good bbq sandwiches and banging apple cider donuts! This place has America written all over it! Their country store is really excellent too!
google avatar

Marissa W.

Yelp
I thought this place was super cool. The food was pretty solid, we got breakfast etc. Potatoes could have afforded to be cooked a bit more. But the whole shopping experience and the pub aspect in the back was really cool too. Tucked away where all areas felt different. For what it is I say five stars! We were coming from out of state so it was a welcome experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and even better donuts. Perfect stop on the way through town. I also had the burger which was also very tasty
google avatar

Caroline K.

Yelp
Such a cute stop not far off the highway!! Really delicious baked goods. We got the apple cider donuts and they were amazing. They have so much premade for you to get quick. Also have fountain drinks and coffee machines. Their Christmas market portion of the store was so adorable with lots of gifts and trinkets.

Yelp
I had to stop here on the way back to try out the famous apple donuts. The establishment has been around for a long time and it's such a cute spot. Very rustic. You order upfront and then bring the items to your table. They have vegetarian options but they are very limited. Their burgers are made from bison and I did not try it because well I wasn't feeling too adventurous. We opted for grilled cheese and fries and yes we did the chicken tenders for the kids. If you have fries with the kids meal there is an up charge on $1.99. The rest of the sides are no charge. We opted for the fries and baked apple. I purchased the famous apple Donut as well. The person taking the orders was really friendly and answered all my questions with professionalism and a smile on her face even though there was quite a line of people. The tables are rustic and they look into the road. They are filled with bottles of ketchup, barbecue , jams etc. The food- the grilled cheese on white was crispy and nice. Nothing to write home about but yes it was nice. The fries were crispy too. The chicken strips were crispy and my son enjoyed it. The baked apple was nice but I'm not sure my kids liked the texture. The donut was nice and light. It does taste very fresh and not too sweet. They do sell larger packs of donuts but one was enough for me. The restaurant has a store too and you can buy a bunch of cute gifts, snacks, spices etc. Overall a pleasant experience and I will def stop here again to possibly try something else on the menu.

Yelp
Stopped in this past weekend for their legendary apple butter donuts! The attached restaurant was not open but their early morning cafe was. We came in around 8am on a Sunday, I was surprised by how busy it already was inside. We ordered coffees which you can make yourself at their coffee bar, breakfast sandwiches, and 6 donuts. The donuts were warm, slightly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The sandwich was delicious I loved how soft and chewy the bagel was. The interior has a cabin style vibe with picnic tables by their indoor cafe. We had a great time exploring their store, they carry great items for gifting. Lots of baked goods, sweets, apparel, and cooking sets. They carry gag gift hot sauces and provide the option to taste a lot of them. I highly recommend stopping in to the apple house if you are ever in the area!

Yelp
The Apple House is a locally owned popular breakfast and sandwich restaurant for a reason. The food is delicious. Their Apple Butter donuts melt in your mouth. They are buttery, sugary, cinnamony circles of sheer delight. There are two restaurants inside. We went to the one serving breakfast and sandwiches. The other side has a more elaborate and fun menu, but we didn't learn about it until we'd ordered. You order at the counter, pick a table and they bring the food out. The place is not fancy but comfortable. The servers are friendly and work hard. My husband had an egg, hash brown browns and biscuit breakfast which was fantastic. Portions are generous and eggs cooked perfectly. The biscuits are freshly made and flaking. I had a daily special egg salad sandwich with cole slaw. The sandwich was huge served on the most delicious marble rye bread. The sandwich was so big that I only ate half. Their cole slaw is delicious. It's not a mayonnaise based slaw, but a marinated pickled slaw. My brother had a brisket sandwich which was really good. The meat is tender. The place is popular with weekend travelers and gets crowded. The parking lot is a hot mess. It's crowded, tight and poorly laid out. There is not enough parking on a busy day. There are not enough restroom facilities. There is one bathroom for men and women. I waited almost 30 minutes in line. There is a gift shop that offers some local merchandise, tee shirts and trinkets. If I returned, I would eat on the south side as the menu is more interesting. The food is delicious and worth the hassle of the parking.

Yelp
What a hidden gem just off the highway - not fancy at all but a wonderful pitstop to stretch your legs, get some grub, local brews (or wine) and dessert to go - Seriously ... you must be made of stone if you can resist the smell of those freshly baked apple cider doughnuts! I am not even a doughnut fan but man was that smell irresistible and they were absolutely delicious! The place is a maze and filled with all sorts of odds and ends to look at while you meander from the food side to the bar side. Honestly it was just a fun, unique place to explore!

Yelp
This place will always have a soft spot in my heart for having some of the best cider donuts in the DMV- it's surprisingly hard to find good ones and these are my favorites, they're always soft, fresh, and flavorful. It's about an hour out from DC and well worth the drive! The store truly has a bit of everything, but my favorite shelves to browse are the local treats- there are housemade jams, jellies, salsas, fruit butters, and syrups in a wide range of flavors, as well as other made in Virginia products like peanut assortments. There's also an impressive collection of hot sauces, some of which are available to sample. We dined here twice (once on a quiet Friday evening and once on a busy Monday afternoon), both times on the more casual side on the left side of the Apple House. The right side has a more full-service style restaurant with a bar. The food is classic and delicious comfort food that we enjoyed both times. I will say it gets pretty hectic at peak hours- on Monday afternoon, we had to wait half an hour for one grilled cheese brisket sandwich. It's really nice and cozy if you're there when it isn't too busy, but I highly recommend ordering ahead with their online ordering system if you're in a rush.

Yelp
OK. This is the place for Apple Cider Donuts. Is it a bit far from the NOVA/DC area? Yes. But, it's worth a trip to sample these. I bought a package of six to take home, but needed to sample one in the parking lot. They were moist and full of flavor. A winner! And if you are looking for more, they do have a couple of restaurants inside. One that focuses mostly on breakfast (and it's where you buy the donuts). The other spot on the other side of the establishment offers more of lunch/dinner options with a bar. And of course, in the middle is their general store where you can find all sorts of knickknacks. Definitely worth a trip!

Yelp
The Apple House Restaurant & Gift Shop is a go to stop on the way to Shenandoah National Park. Great diner style breakfast and a reasonable price. While a little too sugary for me, the apple butter cinnamon donuts are very tasty and worth a try. The gift shop is focused on Virginia products including peanuts, hams, jellies/jams, apple butter, wine, cider, craft beer, and wine. Nice selection for a small store.
google avatar

Jordan B.

Yelp
A cute place where you order at the register while watching the food being prepared. Lots of shopping and nick nacks to look at before or after you eat. We came for breakfast and we're so pleased. First the apple butter donuts!! It came hot and was amazing. We contemplated taking some to go. We had the sausage and gravy and the egg breakfast plate with pancakes. I highly recommend the pancakes too! Great little spot to get your breakfast.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Come for the fresh donuts (so good), and looking around the shop for quirky stuff. But the other hot food is just average and isn't all that cheap. Service was friendly, there are a bunch of tables inside to eat. We had a breakfast sandwich with sausage ($8), and sausage gravy with biscuits and homefries ($9). The sandwich was fine (can easily replicate at home), the biscuits were dense and chalky, the gravy was thick and lacking flavor, the home fries were essentially roasted potatoes with little texture or seasoning I'd skip breakfast and just get warm donuts
google avatar

Theresa E.

Yelp
Man this place is awesome parking lot is hopping when we pull in. Get inside and it's cramped packed and everyone is doing their best to make everyone happy. I got the bbq Mac with hush puppies and my son got it with fries. The food 10/10 recommend. The donuts are something they are known for and let me tell you there is a reason they are the softest most perfect cake donut I have ever had. A perfect end to a weekend in Virginia!
google avatar

Annie P.

Yelp
The perfect place to get breakfast. The egg sandwich is so good! And I love all the shopping in the store. Great stop to pick up some unique gifts!
google avatar

Deb W.

Yelp
When you miss breakfast but want breakfast food, go enjoy their delicious donuts. I messed up and bought two. I should have bought 10 dozen, they were just good. I love great customer service and they nailed it. Looking forward to returning for more donuts.
google avatar

Billy T.

Yelp
I came by for lunch with my friends after Luray upon a recommendation and had a good experience! I ordered the jumbo pork sandwich with green beans and apples as a side. The food came out quickly and was wonderful! It definitely wasn't the cheapest, but you do get what you pay for. The apple cider donuts are also delicious and I'd recommend trying some. One gripe I do have is that they almost make you tip even though there aren't any servers (you order at the counter). The payment interface makes it tough to not put a tip.
google avatar

Sabrina G.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped by here coming from a winery. This place has a lot of stuff inside. I got the apple donuts and my lawd they were a 5/5. My friends ordered fries and they were fresh and amazing. The service was amazing! If I lived close I would be here daily .
google avatar

Jenn K.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch around 3 and there was only one other table. We got a grilled cheese and a Mac and cheese with pulled pork. I also grabbed a half dozen apple cider donuts. We ordered at the counter and chose our table. The drink station was very well equipped! I could have made a lavender iced tea if I wanted. Very swanky. The food was rich, comfort food and the portions were sufficient to large. I enjoyed browsing the gift shop attached!

Yelp
We were driving to Shenandoah National Park, saw this restaurant as we were driving by, and after looking it up, had to stop for lunch and donuts on our drive back. We had to get the Apple Butter Cinnamon Donuts... and oh my god. These donuts are incredible. Such great flavor, fluffy, and moist. We bought a six pack, and it wasn't enough. Wish we lived closer so we could come back for more donuts. We read such good things about the pulled pork sandwich that we had to get it for lunch. Such tender pork with great flavor. A delicious sandwich. We shared it between the two of us because we weren't quite hungry, and that was pushing it. If you're hungry, definitely not a sharing sandwich. But great quality and well-worth the price. They also have DELICIOUS bottle ciders here. They had 3 pre-bottles flavors while we were there, and I bought one of each to bring with us. I believe they were like peach, blueberry, etc. I would've bought more to take with us if we didn't have a flight so soon after visiting. Only complaint about here is the wait time. They were SO behind on the orders that we waited over 40 minutes for our sandwich, and it wasn't busy when we showed up. Nearly every table was taken by people waiting for their food. So unless they've improved on their times, be prepared to wait for any prepared food. Worth the stop, just be prepared to wait.

Yelp
First time here! Quite an interesting place. Lots of items to buy before you get to the food.... funny socks, hot sauce, jellies/jams, honey, sauces, tees, and many other things. Huge amount of variety!! The guy that took my order (Kaleb R) was such a sweetie-pie. The food was better than I anticipated. The chicken overhung the bun and the potato salad was real good. Nice pit stop if you're on 66
google avatar

Sallie W.

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING!! Ordered two burgers, a cheesesteak and chicken fingers and everything was tasty. They cut their fries in a swirly shape, so fun to eat :) We did also get the apple cider donuts and those are always yummy!
google avatar

Shenise F.

Yelp
First timer here. After hearing many glowing remarks about the Apple cider donuts at this establishment, I made the 1.5 hour drive out to Linden, VA. Walking in, it reminded me of your classic general store on steroids. There was a little bit of everything from signs with cute sayings to a variety of hard ciders from across the state. There are two areas where you can order food. Head to the right where it is less crowded and sit at the bar. I went with the staff's suggestion and ordered the Grilled Cheese sandwich with Brie, bacon & apricot jam with a balsamic glaze that came with French fries. That bacon jam was so good that I ended up walking away with two jars. The apple donuts lived up to the glowing reviews and I could see why people make the drive for these treats.
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
We went here on a Saturday night, we had never been here before but heard good things and was in the area. This is a quaint store and restaurant. There's a cute little store in front. Lots of funny signs, shirts and socks. The store was fun to look at. The part of the restaurant we ate at was to the left of the store but there's another restaurant/bar part to the right and in the back. The whole place was clean. You order at the counter and they call your number. They were fairly quick. We got a pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and hush puppies. The potato salad and hush puppies were good. The pulled pork sandwich was average. It was good to try something new.
google avatar

Salma C.

Yelp
Absolutely worth the visit. Homey, inviting country store with a plethora of food options and local goodies. I came for the famous, Apple Cider Donuts. For someone who was skeptical and not a donut person, I found them to be incredible. They pair great with a tea or coffee. I additionally tried one of their sandwiches, "The Rooster." It was a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, lettuce, and a tomato. Although ranch wasn't with my sandwich, I didn't even mind. It was simple yet tasty and satisfying. The wait did take some time, but it was worth it. I also tried their bacon-potato salad side. Overall, good to stop by when in the area. Come at least for the donuts- you won't regret it.
google avatar

Teresa D.

Yelp
The apple doughnuts are so delicious!! We bought the doughnuts and cider then sat down at a table to enjoy. Lady that rang us up was nice. Real casual. Fun gift shop!

Anita A.

Yelp
Amazing barbecue sandwich with baked beans and slaw. The apple butter donuts are out of this world!!
google avatar

Jacob T.

Yelp
We stopped on a road trip to grab some apple cider donuts and they were amazing. The ambiance in the store is so awesome and the bar would be a great place to come and hang out. Pretty iconic spot in my opinion.
google avatar

Renee G.

Yelp
Friendly service, amazing donuts! I made a quick stop to grab breakfast and they didn't disappoint.
google avatar

Elaine G.

Yelp
This place definitely had a home feel to it. This little hole in the wall feels like a small town gem. After hearing so much about it, we just had to stop by on our way back. To be honest, while the donuts were good, they were not hot. Fresh donuts is not always consistent when you stop by, which was a bit disappointing. The donuts tasted soft and cakey. The pulled pork special with chips and side was decent - the pork was not overly greasy and the potato salad tasted homemade. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would come back again if we were in the area. However, the lady who rang us up at the food counter could have been more patient and approachable to anxious customers unsure of what to order and asking for recommendations.
google avatar

Louie B.

Yelp
What more could you ask for! Good food at a family place with a knick knack country store attached. What More could you want for a roadside place right off the highway on the way to Shenandoah!
google avatar

Brittany D.

Yelp
On a weekend trip to Shenandoah, this was on our list as a must-go. This place had been recommended by many I spoke with and everyone always said, "Make sure to grab a donut!" With our kiddos in tow, we stopped here on our way back to the DC area to see if it lived up to the hype. It gives off an old time, small town feel with an extensive gift shop, grab and go pies, donuts, and pastries, a bar (off to the right side of the gift shop area) and a counter service seat-yourself restaurant. I loved their selection of Virginia- owned and local items to purchase too. We ordered two donuts, a few sandwiches, and pancakes for the littlest. They were busy, but the staff was hustling and friendly and the wait wasn't long at all. We really enjoyed our food and the donuts were served warm (yum!!) and very cinnamony (new word ;) ) As my spouse put it, the food was simple. Nothing extravagant because it didn't have to be. We loved everything we had and will definitely return on our next trip to the area.

Yelp
The Apple House Restaurant opened in Linden VA in 1963. I first learned about it when my future son in law took my daughter and I there in the mid nineties. The food was so good, large portions and delicious. Fast forward to when I moved to Front Royal for 2 years in the early 2000s. Same amazing food and home town atmosphere...and cinnamon donuts that we still drive an hour to enjoy and bring back to Leesburg to enjoy. The car ride through Middleburg and the Plains is beautiful! Highly recommend
google avatar

Chandler D.

Yelp
The Apple House is known for their apple cider donuts. We stopped in here to get a drink before heading home. The service is here is good and they also serve food here but we didn't try the food this time. It's a cute little store/restaurant with souvenirs and lots of local beer and wine from the state of Virginia

John L.

Yelp
Great donuts. Apple fritters were a little stake I thought. Fun selection of merchandise in the store. BBQ was very good.
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
Such a fun place to stop when we drive out to Front Royal. There's plenty of food options to choose from, including bbq, but I always have to get the apple cider donuts! They're soft but have a nice crunch and are coated in cinnamon sugar. I love them. The store has tons of hot sauces, homemade jams and jellies, salsas, syrups, and much more to purchase. I got the four pepper jelly and it is a great balance of spicy and sweet. Might sound weird, but I enjoy it on ritz crackers with cream cheese. Parking can be a little limited if they're busy, but I think there's more in the back. An ice cream stand is located next door if you want to have lunch and a treat. Give the apple house a try during your next trip out to Front Royal! Great place to stop on the way back from a hike along skyline drive.
google avatar

Yelp
The weirdest place but with the best donuts in all the land! My partner and I were doing a day from DC to Shenandoah and found The Apple House online before hand so we stopped on our way home. We didn't know much about it, just that we wanted their apple cider donuts. Apparently this place has been family owned for multiple decades which is very cool and they had a unique selection of merchandise in this almost warehouse sized building. In the back they have a sit down dining area and we got 6 apple cider donuts to go. After buying them and looking around for a while, we realized we wanted them heated up so we went back to the dining area and asked if they could, and the employee kindly gave us 2 fresh donuts for free and let us keep our packaged half dozen! The fresh ones were incredible and everything I want in a donut. The packaged batch kept so well, too. Each morning the 3 days after, I zapped one in the microwave for 10 seconds and they turned out fresh and moist again:) Highly recommend for a pit stop!
google avatar

Nichole A.

Yelp
Great place to visit. Took my parents here for some delicious pulled pork sandwiches and of course the yummy apple cider donuts. This restaurant has a neat store to checkout to.
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
Saw this place on my way to skyline drive and had to get some apple cider donuts. To be honest, it was a tad bit confusing where everything was cause it was like Cracker Barrel. There is an odd gift shop we entered through, then a dining area. I think wish we could have had a real meal here but I found the apple cider donuts, my daughter picked out a unicorn headband, and I got myself some donut dress socks, cause I had to be in the office the following week and I wanted flashy donut socks. Donuts were highly delicious and soft and moist when we got back.
google avatar

Bobbi N.

Yelp
Food was good - pastrami sandwich and an oyster po boy - but it took 30 minutes to get the first sandwich and my friend finished her meal before mine came out. Same issue with the table next to us. Back of house just needs some more training. Staff was very friendly which definitely helped with the review.

Yelp
This is a fun store. Close to 66, it is convenient to that highway, route 55, and good ol' 340. It's certainly a tourist trap. Yet it at least kind of humors that, and they do occasionally have some fun items to purchase. I still have my Virginia coffee mug, magnets, and other items from years past. The Virginia hams are quite tasty. There's also an ice cream stand out back. Okay it's seasonal from late spring to early fall. Happy to recommend this. If you're in the area stop on in. There are some amusing and practical gifts. Sure they are slightly expensive, but it's not as bad as you might think. Plus their cinnamon donuts are delicious.

Yelp
I have been here a few times now. I get overwhelmed easily, and I got overwhelmed the first time I was here. But each time I visit, I get a better picture of the layout of the place and what the different areas are for. The left side is the casual side, as far as I can tell. They have amazing burgers and breakfast. I haven't eaten breakfast there yet, but my friend says it's really good. The middle section is about 3 rooms or so, and it's a gift shop for all things Virginia, Luray, Appalachian Trail and Shenandoah River and Shenandoah Mountains. Also, gifts about whiskey, apples and The Apple House. They have all kinds of things. T-shirts and stickers a'plenty. It's a good gift shop! The right side is the bar area and very big tables and even a nice seating area by the fireplace. The whole thing is really nice. I wonder if it's hopping on a Friday and Saturday night? I have only ever been at lunch or late lunch time; I have never been, in the evening. I have had a variety of food from both menus (the one on the right side of the building and the one on the left side of the building). Oh - the left side also sells the best apple cider donuts I have ever eaten. You're definitely going to want to take some home! I find the staff so patient and kind and helpful. They are great people. This place feels local, friendly. The food is good. The gift shop is nice & well-stocked. I definitely recommend a visit or 5 to this place!!

Yelp
Worth the visit even if it is claustrophobic and loud. My aunt took me here while I was visiting her because it is a favorite treat. I could see why because the food is great. We had a wildcat sandwich and a bison burger with sides of onion rings and fries. Dessert was The Apple House's famous apple butter donuts. The Wildcat was a grilled pastrami with swiss cheese on rye bread with deli mustard sandwich. I reheated and ate the half my aunt didn't finish there and it tasted really good. Not too greasy and very flavorful. I recommend it. The Bison burger was a leaner meat than beef at around 97% fat free and had a less dense, not overly charred taste like a regular hamburger does. It was just the right amount of filling. The onion rings and fries were a notch about typical. The onion rings edged out the fries but only by a little and I would get them as my side the next time I went. What differentiated the fries from typical ones was that they were thicker and had a better potato to fried potato ratio. Our dog approved of the thicker fries. The apple butter donuts were so good I went back and bought half a dozen to eat later! They were a lot like a typical cider donut but just a little different in a good way. Fresh, softer, and a little more apple and butter taste to them than a normal cider donut. All this along with a gift store stocked with all manner of merchandise from cooking condiments (I bought apple butter and some, "Holee Chit hot sauce for later) to soaps for dog lovers named things like "Dog saliva" and other decor made for a great reason to visit. All these things added up to four stars simply because in order to experience this place you had to park in cramped spaces, navigate a crowder gift shop that only had one entrance and one exit, then wait in line to be seated in a small, crowded, very loud echo chamber of a seat yourself dining area. It was so loud and claustrophobic that we ended up just taking the meal to the car and hanging out with our dog. This is of course depended on the time of your visit and probably just a good sign that a family business that was established in 1963 is experiencing some growing pains and can afford to expand. Perhaps into the adjacent 7-11 convenience store and gas's station!
