The Arbor - Review - Mount Pleasant - Vancouver - The Infatuation

"The Arbor is a vegetarian restaurant on Main Street often overshadowed by its more popular sister restaurant, The Acorn, a few doors down. If they were actual sisters, The Arbor would be more laid-back and probably live in a country town, while The Acorn would be more serious and own a greyhound and a large wine glass collection. And while we are big fans of The Acorn for its unique, fancy vegan food, we keep coming back to The Arbor. You can get things like sandwiches, pizza, and salads there, and you can usually walk-in without a wait. Their artichoke sandwich is phenomenal, as is their broccoli popcorn, which you should eat on their patio out the back that’s open in the summer, surrounded by vines, and feels like a secret garden." - Shelley Mason

Comedian Gabe Liedman’s Grub Street Diet

"The Arbor is associated with the author's favorite Vancouver restaurant, the Acorn. The author had a winter salad and lemon iced tea there." - Alan Sytsma

The Arbor is a beautiful Vegetarian Restaurant. I say beautiful because everything about the restaurant is nice and sweet.... Like home. Pretty small indoor space with minimal art and fixtures. But the best part is the backyard Patio. You have to see this to feel the 'at home' backyard. On a sunny day or a dry day, this is a very good spot for food. We ordered Fried Oysters for appetizers. It was really good. Went well with the Rice Beer. Similar to Onion Rings but whole lot more delicious. Then we ordered the 'Southern Fried Artichoke Sandwich'. This is the best. Fried Artichokes in a sandwich. Very flavorful main. Arbor is a must go place for a Vegetarian or a vegan. And do not forget to visit their sister restaurant, The Acorn. Food - 9 Service - 8 Ambience - 9 Experience - 9 Expensive - $$

Beautiful outdoor garden. Very quiet and cozy :) First Vegetarian Restaurant I have been to and will definitely be back. I will admit I am a bit of a picky eater and I like my meat, but the options they have here quench me. We ordered off the Happy hour menu and although the portions are small, it is filling. Cashew Cheese dip with the bread was my favorite, very creamy with the added sweetness from tomato jam. The Chxkn Karaage was new to me, I have never had mushrooms that way and it was very yummy and a little spicy. Olives weren't salty one bit and quite enjoyable. The Strawberry tart was heavenly, although the tart pastry itself was a little hard.

Great place! The food was amazing and everyone loved their meals. We had vegans in our group and they were able to accommodate their meals to their needs. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The “secret garden” was a great outdoor space that we enjoyed eating at. Would recommend if you are looking for fresh, yummy food!

It was our first visit here, my birthday so my choice. My husband hadn’t wanted to come here but now we’re both big fans! The food was amazing, although the portions didn’t look so big, I was absolutely stuffed after a starter and a main and couldn’t actually manage desert. We caught the end of happy hour so the fried chixn and cashew dip were 1/2 price, making the bill very low. The Aperol Spritz cocktails are very good as is the BC wine. Both the servers were brilliant too, very friendly and fun.

I came here with my friends for the first time. Loved this restaurant and the service. The patio seating is wonderful. We ordered fried oysters, corn ribs, poutine and southern fried artichoke sandwich. Loved their food it is delicious, especially poutine and fried oysters. Would definitely come again and try their other dishes.

Being vegetarian, I was quite excited to try out the food here with my family, but was slightly disappointed by the evening. Service was rather slow. It was a Saturday night however so we understood. But that being said, there were practically only 2 servers. We were told we also had an out time and didn’t really felt taken care of during the experience. That being said, they were very kind and accommodative. The food was sub-par. Nothing that stood out too much, but still tasted alright enough to eat and take home. Might not come back for sake of price as well as we did not think it was worth what we paid for. But, I would still recommend giving this place a try and seeing it for yourself as I think this place comes down to personal preferences. The fact that you could tell the food was fresh also was very nice to see. I see why this place has good reviews and I think this was just a one-off for us that we personally just did not feel amazed by it. The main dining room was also rather hot, squishy, and the bass levels of the music was way too high.

It’s a sister restaurant of Acorn so you know you’re getting quality vegetarian dishes! We started off with fried oyster mushrooms which were fantastic - crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The main course was fried artichoke sandwich which I must say was better than most meat-based sandwiches! We ordered a side of fries as well and I think the ketchup was home-made because it definitely wasn’t store bought. The waiter was also very friendly and the patio has a very nice vibe. We will definitely be visiting again and I highly recommend that if you’re ever in the neighborhood, you give them a chance :D

Nice eatery. Ordered takeout for lunch at the restaurant, and from our limited interaction, the staff were friendly! I think the biggest issue for us was the cost. Even with my Plant Curious coupons, my bill came to $60 for 2 sandwiches, 1 pasta, a small chocolate mousse, and fries. The portion size for the Pesto Alfredo at $22 was not great. It's advertised to come with seasonal vegetables & slow roasted heirloom tomatoes. The seasonal vegetable was singular (just the broccolini) and I think I counted like 5 small tomatoes. The saving grace was the pumpkin seed pesto alfredo, which was delicious. I had to eat a lot of my group's fries to be substantially filled. The sandwiches were the better option ($21.75 each + additional charges for GF/vegan substitutes). We had the Southern Fried Artichoke and Fig + Brie Tofu. The tofu was the favourite, it came with a very hearty piece and the fig jam was the perfect amount of sweet. We found one piece of the battered artichokes in the sandwich was quite stringy and therefore, inedible. I will say I was disappointed as you seem to really be short changed by doing take out. I've seen photos of the food I ordered taken by dine-in patrons. The pasta had more ingredients (extra arugula and healthier dose of cashew parmesan; although with the parm, I think they just mixed it into the sauce, it was hard to tell). When taken out, our chocolate mousse contained no anglaise nor seasonal fruit. The sandwiches come with fries and fresh greens when you dine in, but only fries at take out. I wasn't exactly sure why that was the case, as we were told you can purchase a caesar salad to go. I've taken out from many places before that do provide greens (possibly with dressing on the side) and still provide fruit in a dessert. Would come here again if in the area, but only for dine in.
