The Arcade

Google
Beautiful architecture but the spaces are not well spent. Guess the rent to have a store there had to be astronomical. But is a perfect spot for pictures.

Built in 1890, this is one of the special pieces of architecture to visit in the United States. The views inside of the Arcade are incredible. Hyatt did a great job of converting this property into a hotel. The first 2 floors have shops then the top 3 floors are hotel rooms. I'll add that the city of Cleveland should really put incentives out there for more shops to open within the Arcade. It's a shame to see empty store fronts in such a special retail space.

Google
As a wedding photographer (Eighty Eight Photo) I can easily recommend the Arcade to anyone looking for elegance and an aesthetic that will wow anyone. It's easily one of the best locations in Cleveland to take photos and their staff is a well oiled machine making every event we have had the opportunity to work with them absolutely flawless. If you are looking for an amazing blend of historic charm and breathtaking architecture for your wedding you are in the right place!

Carlin T.

Google
Beautiful architecture and hotel in downtown Cleveland. I enjoyed visiting here and walking around to take photos. It was very peaceful and not very crowded in the morning. Would make for a great wedding venue or a pleasant hotel stay.

Google
Stunning place! I'm happy that you stopped by to see it while in Cleveland. Got to learn a bit more about the story of the building and the scenes from the Superman movie that were filmed there.

kendra G.

Google
I’ve have heard of this place and seen pictures, it would have been a great place “back in the day “, wish there were shops. It truly a treasure. Clean, quiet, a few restaurants, some with tables on the walk way

Florentino G.

Google
Beautiful architecture to say the least. This place has many businesses within and surrounding it. Great area for walking, shopping, or just sitting at the local sports bar watching The Browns game.

Ana D.

Google
Beautiful architecture! The place was surprisingly empty..stores were close but is the building what you want to see. Beautiful!
google avatar

May W.

Yelp
Beautiful inside! Filming location for the latest Superman film and now I understand why. Unfortunately on a Sunday evening, only a few things in the arcade were open, including a pizza place, an ice cream place, and the Hyatt hotel lobby connects directly with the arcade. Wish more restaurants or shops that were open.
google avatar

Yelp
Old world cool interior structure. The arched windows are all frosted. 4 floors of the store concourse and hotels too. The lobby is on the second floor. There is a conference room downstairs. We grabbed some coffee from the rising star and had a two hour conference downstairs. Had some fruit and small croissants, chocolate muffins, cheese and nut pastry, they were pretty good. The croissant was flaky and surprisingly good. It's rather sad to see all of the empty store fronts on the first and second floor, shows the downfall much of retail shops of late?
google avatar

Meredith P.

Yelp
Go, just go and walk around! Grab a coffee at rising star and walk and enjoy the beautiful architecture.

Yelp
The Arcade... more like no fun-cade. I mean, where are all the video games? There's nothing interactive about this place at all. I mean what a snooze fest. There's nothing remotely arcade-like at all. If I wanted boredom, I could've just stayed home. Maybe that's why a hotel is in here because it's exactly that.
google avatar

Brenda G.

Yelp
The service from the Archade was pretty much the security staff and the hotel staff. They were all welcoming. There were a lot of empty spaces and although it was a beautiful venue, it was dead most of the time. There were a few events that I attended during my week stay and were beautiful. I was disappointed because they had a very basic selection of services but they closed early or didn't open consistently through the week. This is a historic building with a beautiful view, I would recommend an event here but it won't be completely private. The photos would also be amazing.
google avatar

Les R.

Yelp
The inside is beautiful. We had checked it out during on two separate occupations. Not much I saw here but the Hyatt Regency and a post office but we did look around in the evening both times. Also, if you are looking for a restroom, the Hyatt Bar (across from the Hyatt front desk) has a restroom to the back left if you are looking for one in the area. Learn more at www.theclevelandarcade.com and the website lists the below shops: Marengo Luxury Spa Prosperity Glass Next Level Barbershop Daydreams & Tea - Through the Looking Glass Brian Krause - State Farm Bob Wittbrot - Erie Insurance Essential Wellness Cuyahoga County Soldiers & Sailors Designer Suites United States Post Office Innovative Graphics & Marketing The Arcade Chiropractic The Arcade Art Gallery

Yelp
The Arcade Cleveland opened in May of 1890 as the first indoor shopping center in America. It quickly became one of downtown Cleveland's most popular landmarks, and was nicknamed Cleveland's Crystal Palace. It was modeled after the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, Italy! Stunning walking amongst the floors and also seeing where Thomas Edison had his own store. Today the Hyatt Regency has a hotel on the 3rd floor where they turned each shop into a hotel room! It's a must see icon if you visit Cleveland!
google avatar

JiHae L.

Yelp
One of the landmark places to visit while you're in Cleveland. The first day I went no one was allowed inside because of a wedding inside. So, they said to come back the next day and get full access. I did go back and it was beautiful inside. Even though the people that occupy it are the ones that are staying in the hotel. I can't believe this place used to be the first indoor mall back in the 1890s. They had a picture of how it looked back in the days so no imagination needed. I hope they restore the vacant store lots and fill it up.
google avatar

Karyn M.

Yelp
Stop in to marvel at the beautiful architecture of The Arcade, the first indoor shopping center in America (built in 1890). It's patterned after the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, Italy (which I have visited), although as a shopping destination this falls flat. This is Cleveland's first building on the National Register of Historic Places but there is little to do here other than snap a photo. When I visited there were people sitting at tables but I did not see any retail or restaurants. This is part of the Hyatt Regency.
google avatar

Luke M.

Yelp
This was a good experience. There's lots of stores in food places. Big hotel, beautiful and calming. Very good for a wedding and beautiful architecture
google avatar

Tonya J.

Yelp
What a visually amazing building with timeless architecture very well preserved! There were a few shops, restaurants establishments and a hotel here. We parked on the street. Looks like a great event venue or a place for stunning photo opportunities. I know you can really capture some amazing pictures inside the arcade. Cool spot.
google avatar

Mariah M.

Yelp
As a non-Clevelander (lol), I'm not sure if this was supposed to be a mall, a double level pop up building or what.. a lot of the rooms/shops were vacant aside from a handful of businesses.. but it's AMAZING layout for pictures! I actually stumbled across this gem scrolling on TikTok and learned of a woman getting married here as well! So come visit, maybe shop, maybe get married, and DEFINITELY take pictures!

Paul D.

Yelp
There really are no stores. Most storefronts have drapes closed. Impressive for the architecture, but that's it!
google avatar

Parker W.

Yelp
One of the most beautiful buildings in Cleveland. This was the first mall in America. If America went back to indoor commerce the country would be better off. Everyone now is more closed off than ever, isolated in their homes and purchasing items on Amazon. A mall used to be a place a person could go, shop, browse, meet people or just walk and get steps in for health reasons. Now there are companies like Stark Enterprises that build outdoor mixed use faux communities in far flung suburbs. Cracker Park is nice for about half of the year. I won't be walking around the Polar Vortex at Cracker Park.
google avatar

Lane C.

Yelp
Closed the entire place on a Sunday afternoon for a wedding but they still charged for parking to stop in and find out.
google avatar

Howard L.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place. I personally didn't care that this place wasn't fully occupied, it felt like what a mall in the 1800s would be like that's fully rehabbed (which I guess it truthfully is). This place has beautiful music playing throughout the place. A few practices and coffee places, it's so peaceful and ambient with so few people here and you're also in the heart of the city. This place is such an escape. Really recommend coming here.
google avatar

Roseann C.

Yelp
Got bumped from our top floor room with a view, which I had electronically checked into earlier in the day without a problem. Given room key and found the door latched when we tried to enter. Staff gave us another room which was much larger than original room but looked out on brick wall. What is the point of reservations if the hotel can ignore them, presumably to give a more important customer a better room? Shout out to Kristen in security, Australia at the front desk, and especially Ron from the front desk for making a terrible experience a little less so. No reason to come back here.

Malcolm E.

Yelp
Beautiful massive space, worth seeing. Really good coffee downstairs. Not a lot of shops.
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
I'm rating this 4 stars as a photographer, and not as a hotel guest. The building is simply stunning inside, definitely worth a stop. Unfortunately almost all the stores are closed and other than the hotel and restaurant, its an empty shell. With that said, it's worth a stop for a 10 minute walk or a half hour of photography. The lighting is great, plenty of nice architectural interest and everything is clean and well cared for.
google avatar

Cynthia K.

Yelp
This is a very beautiful place! To preface, I came for an event so it was definitely more private and well-decorated. We had a ball here and the venue is absolutely gorgeous. The aesthetic almost reminds me of something straight out of the Great Gatsby, with the gold and glamour. It's very large, multiple floors. It looks like there's a hotel inside, as well as different stores, restaurants, and even an ice cream shop. I did pass by sometime on a random Sunday and everything was shut down and quiet. It's hard to tell which stores are open and which are not, which is why I knocked off one star. I also saw a wedding getting setup here one time and it looked gorgeous. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area or if you're looking to host a large event, but maybe not worth a trip on its own.
google avatar

Justina T.

Yelp
The pictures don't lie! This arcade is as stunning as it looks. The only downside is that so many shops have closed up, but even still, I hope this place persists for another century or two! The coffee shop on the first floor is really nice ith great beverages (the cardamom bomb is delicious!). There's also a post office, if you're needing to send off mail. Lastly, the Hyatt hotel and restaurant are also located in this arcade on the upper floors.

Yelp
One of the most impressive pieces of architecture you will ever be privileged enough to observe. If you are in Cleveland, get yourself a little nosh on 4th Street, then take a stroll through this marvel.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
Even though it's almost empty it's still a cool old building. It used to be a popular mall. The Arcade Cleveland is worth seeing even if you aren't shopping. Come here expecting not to buy anything. You probably won't find any open stores any time. From the outside it looks like a large building. Inside you are walking into the large lobby. There's a whole ring of shops around it, and there's another one upstairs. Of course most of these spaces are empty. The one reason to check this out is not to go shopping. Actually it's to just look at the architecture. The place is such a classic, and it's interesting just to walk around in. It would be nice to have more places to go into and look around. There's nowhere good to eat either so it's pretty just a place to take a few pictures and get out. It turns out there's hotel rooms on the upper level. It's off limits to anyone but guests, so this blocks off a major area to retail. There's a lack of tenants in the rest of the mall already, so they don't need the extra space.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I visited the Cleveland Arcade, on 29 May 2023. This Victorian-era building was constructed in 1890 at a cost of $867,000 and opened on Memorial Day of that year as one of the earliest indoor shopping arcades in the United States. The building is currently part of the Hyatt Regency Hotel with hotel rooms on the second and third floors, but not much on the main level or lower level. Unbeknownst to us, we happened to visit on its 133rd birthday.
google avatar

Teemaree ..

Yelp
Lovely architecture, beautiful sight to see. There was a private party in the lower floor of the property when we went and the shops were closed but we still enjoyed strolling the arcade because it was that rare and beautiful.
google avatar

Andrea U.

Yelp
The shops and salons were very quiet or closed. This was once known as Cleveland's crystal palace it was a forerunner to indoor shopping malls in America. It's five stories and the interior features ornate balconies, huge roof trusses and a dramatic mix of glass iron and oak.
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Only a popcorn shop, TShirt shop and an expensive women's clothing store were open. Seems like it was a fun place at one time but shops have left or have extremely limited hours. Not worth visiting.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a beautiful building that attracts plenty of visitors every year. This building is actually a hotel (The Hyatt Regency) but the lobby has some shops and a food court. Don't confuse this place with the 5th street Arcade building down the street. ARCHITECTURE -- The Arcade is modeled after the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping mall in Milan, Italy. It is called the arcade because it is designed with a series or succession of arches supported by pillars. It's very beautiful inside with a unique architecture style. The grandeur of the Arcade is definitely one to see. You'll see what I mean when you visit. Be sure to look up at the ceiling which brings out alot of natural light. SHOPS -- I wish there were more businesses in here because this building has a ton of potential. I visited on a Saturday and the main floor was quiet. Many of the shops were either closed on weekends or have limited hours. The U.S. post office is closed on Saturdays, the yoga studio in there was closed, the food court was closed too, etc. All the other floors are hotel rooms. I did see a hair salon that was open. There are tables and chairs on the main floor for you to sit and eat if you get food from the food court. FUN FACT -- It was built in 1890 for $875,000. It was the 1st building in Cleveland and the 9th in the U.S. to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Overall, I would recommend visiting the Arcade to admire the architecture. It is truly a wonderful site to see but additional shops and extended hours would be nice. It's sad how dead this place is because there is a ton of business potential. If you visit, come during the weekday because you will more likely be able to find shops that are open. P.S. By the way, I have never been to that shopping mall in Italy. I wish...haha. *** - 58 total reviews in 2019 - 267 total Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 13 April 2019

Yelp
Beautiful and old architecture. Would definitely recommend going inside and taking some pictures.

Yelp
We originally had plans to go to California for a huge music festival, but he started a new job and was unable to get the time off work to go all the way to California. So we decided to stay closer to home. We started off in Toledo so he could leave the hotel and go to work from there. He ended up getting a couple of days off anyway so that wasn't really necessary, but it was fine because we wanted to do the Ohio tagabrew trail anyway. We ended up deciding on Cleveland. I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought Cleveland would be disappointing, especially since the plan was California, and that canceled only the week before. But we had gorgeous weather and such a magnificent time! When researching hotels, I noticed that this location was in walking distance to just about anything and everything. So, we chose to stay here. The hotel is a repurposed mall! In fact, it's the first indoor mall in America! They did a great job renovating and still keeping the charm of the old building. There were weddings going on both nights that we were there so that was fun! They have several bars and several eating establishments there as well. Let's just say that this trip was a great success. No complaints whatsoever on my end. I don't think he has any either! It wasn't Cali but it still was super fun! Definitely would definitely come back!

Yelp
Beautiful building to come and see, and a great spot for pictures. Overall it was a little underwhelming. I expected cute little stores, which was not the case. It looked like they were setting up for a wedding, this would be a lovely venue.

Yelp
If you like architecture, this one is a must see when in Cleveland. We ended up here Thanksgiving day as it was one of a few spots that had its doors open but more so that part of the structure is a hotel. While we would've loved to see it while the stores were open, I have to say that being completely empty Thanksgiving day made it quite the spot for a photoshoot. As we had seen this spot on TV, it's definitely got quite the history behind it being one of the first shopping malls and is even more stunning to see in person. I think I'll leave it at that, but definitely a must see when in Cleveland. Not much else I got on this one. So... 'Til next time, cheers! 324/365

Yelp
MAGNIFICENT & ELEGANT are the words stuck in my mind to describe this place. You'll fall in love with the place the moment you enter . Located in downtown and quite close to Soldiers Monument . Looks pretty simple and similar to lot old buildings from outside but once you step in you'll be amazed at the grandeur. Woke up early n reached around 8.50 am and luckily got street parking close by and it was free being Sunday. My Idea was to just check the architecture hence reached early and none of the stores were open but there are some pretty good stores and cafe's . Pros: ------- Amazing Architecture Good Stores Great for Photoshoots In Downtown "Pour Coffee House" With in 2 mins by walk Lot of food options in the area Cons: -------- None IF YOU WANT GOOD SOLO SHOTS, REACH BEFORE 9AM.

afronia m.

Yelp
Nothing much to do inside. It is very pretty though so taking pictures is a must. When we went it was closed for a wedding and no update was provided online regarding that so we were not able to walk inside that's why I rate it a 4/5.
google avatar

Lexy M.

Yelp
I nerd over stuff like this! It's beautiful! The stairs and elegance just make me smile. I enjoy staying at the hotel and shopping here. It is within walking distance of some cool places like the house of blues and some great food :) if you are a history nerd like me you need to check it out :)

Vivienne F.

Yelp
Do all of their employees, and I do mean ALL, have to pass a kindness exam? Do they offer advanced courses in professionalism and courtesy? They treated us like royalty as we celebrated my mom's 100th birthday. Wow, just WOW
google avatar

Meg L.

Yelp
I'm not sure that there's a lot going on in here- other than coffee shops, bars, and a hotel, but I always see a photo shoot here! It's so photogenic that people choose to rent the entire first floor as their wedding venue. I would recommend coming here in the winter because there is isn't Christmas tree and beautiful lights hanging from the ceiling. It's honestly so beautiful that it almost captures the beauty in film. Stop by to take a new profile pic!

Yelp
This is a gorgeous hotel in a prime spot in downtown Cleveland. Just outside the doors are dozens of excellent places to eat and you are within a short walk to the Rock and Roll HOF, Browns stadium and Cavaliers arena. The inside lobby is something out of 1920. Rates are very reasonable. Highly recommend.

Yelp
After looking over several other reviews for this place, I am in agreeance with what has been said before. This is a beautiful piece of architecture, but direly underused. It's got that vibe to pull you into it, but doesn't really have anything to keep you there. While staying at the Hyatt I had my fair chance to roam about the lower, non-hotel portion of this building. As I did this on a daily basis I wondered if that might be a contributing factor as to why this bottom portion was so dead. Is the fact that the upper portions contain hotel rooms the reason as to why there is a lack of businesses. Do you think that noise could be a factor for the people staying upstairs? Or is there something else to it? For this to be labelled a mall, it really is not. There are very little storefronts in use in here, it is just weird. The busiest place that I noted was the Post Office, so yeah. It is so odd, because this place has so much potential. This seems to be a major thoroughfare for foot traffic. Imagine if there were actual shops in here. They would make a killing.
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
This is a multi attraction place. I come here to stay at the hotel, I go once a month to get my hair and nails, facials and massages done at Marengo spa, I go to the hotel bar while I wait for my appointments or dinner, and enjoy the pizza place and Chocolate Bar for dinners. This location is beautiful inside and I have seen many weddings take place here. There is also a post office, a barber shop and a few gift shops inside.
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
Nothing to really shop for here, but a cool landmark to checkout. They were shooting a film while we were here so that was fun to see.
google avatar

Kara B.

Yelp
There's nothing really to do here, but the building is so beautiful. You should definitely take a few minutes to walk through and observe the beautiful architecture. The Arcade was built in the 1800s as one of the first indoor shopping malls in America. There was a wedding going on when I was there, so I didn't get to see the downstairs. What an amazing venue this is to host a wedding! If you're in Cleveland, definitely walk through and admire the beauty.
google avatar

Valerie C.

Yelp
This place is certainly worth visiting to see the neat architecture, but there are not many places to shop. Don't anticipate spending a ton of time here.
google avatar

Hwal L.

Yelp
Went here on our last night in Cleveland, and it was THE highlight of our first visit to the beautiful city, alongside West Side Market. Apparently level two and up are Hyatt Regency boutique apartments, and the lower two levels are pretty much all retail, occupied by such businesses as a fine dining restaurant, a cafe that fronts the other side of the building, spa room, and many more. It was late at night when we stopped here, and the inside of the building was simply stunning with all the lights lit up but not blinding, so the whole place, especially when viewed from a few levels up, looked more like the interior of a giant cruise ship. It made me wonder what Titanic must have been like before the tragedy. So much details in the most unexpected places throughout, so it makes total sense in declaring this place a hidden gem that needs revival of sort. It was kind of sad walking past all those vacant rooms on level one. Beautiful and quiet, it was perfect!
google avatar

Nefeterri W.

Yelp
The arcade is such a beautiful space that sometimes goes forgotten. If you do nothing else, but walk thru to enjoy its splendor it is worth it. It is still full of shops and restaurants that are all worth it. These are locally owned businesses doing their part to make Cleveland great. A timeless beauty of a building; especially during the holidays.
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
I do agree with the other yelpers on this being such an under-utilized space. I hope with Cleveland's revitalization and more citizens living in the downtown core, you will see the Arcade shine. I was floored by how beautiful but yet how empty it was! What a gem you have here!
google avatar

Melanie C.

Yelp
This is a must see when visiting Downtown Cleveland! It's free to walk in and doesn't take that long to look at. Really transports you back in time to a look at the one of the first indoor shopping malls in the old days of bustling Cleveland.
google avatar

Cindy G.

Yelp
Agree with Cara - "How do you rate a beautiful piece of Cleveland history and architecture when you know damn well it's not living up to its potential?" 5 stars for beauty. 3 stars for not pushing the envelope. The Arcade in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, is a Victorian-era structure of two nine-story buildings, joined by a five-story arcade with a glass skylight spanning over 300 feet along the four balconies. Erected in 1890, at a cost of $867,000, the Arcade opened on Memorial Day (May 30, 1890), and is identified as one of the earliest indoor shopping malls in the United States. Today is sits in an almost faded glory. You can imagine what it could be, but it's not there. You see the glass display cases with nothing in them. And if there is a biz utilizing the space the case is filled with odd knick knacks. I could see this being revitalized into something grand. For instance if the organizers of the Cleveland Flea or another organization took over filled the spaces with things that people actually wanted instead of outdated baby doll clothes and dusty soaps this place could be incredible. As of now, there is nothing I wanted to to buy here and it made me so so sad to see the spaces sit empty or like I said filled with items from people's personal collections. There aren't really bars or restaurants bringing in customers for shopping purposes either. There is one hotel bar and that's about it. Someone needs to take this gem over and bring people back into the city! It's worth a walk in to admire the beauty of such a rare and historic gem - but that's about where the fun stops.
google avatar

Yelp
The Arcade is a Cleveland gem. Its a historic building with beautiful features that's worth stopping into visit. With vintage architecture, sweeping ceilings and open, tall ceilings, its a total gem. It is especially gorgeous during the holiday season when its adorned with wreaths, lights and seeping natural light. Is it underused? Yes. My favorite spa, Marengo, is located inside The Arcade, but there is a serious underutilization of the open store fronts. I would LOVE for the building owners to more actively recruit, retain and do more to accommodate small businesses moving in and calling it home. I sense all the potential for this once vibrant spot to be buzzing again. The Arcade Cleveland opened in May of 1890 as the first indoor shopping center in America. It quickly became one of downtown Cleveland's most popular landmarks, and was nicknamed Cleveland's Crystal Palace. Should you find yourself in Downtown, make a point to at least stop in and appreciate the history!
