The Best Bars in the Florida Keys | Eater Miami

"Hidden behind an unmarked back door in Key Largo, The Armory Speakeasy channels the clandestine charm of Prohibition-era bars. Open Wednesday through Sunday, this military-themed lounge requires a password for entry, adding to its allure — there’s nothing like it in the Keys. Once guests step inside they’re met with vintage decor, dim lighting, and of course, expertly made cocktails. While you can’t go wrong with classics like an Old Fashioned or Paper Plane, the must-try drink is the Key Lime Pie Martini — topped with torched meringue for a sweet and smoky finish. The Armory doesn’t take reservations, so show up as you are, ready for an intimate, unforgettable experience." - Amber Love Bond

One of our favorite spots in the keys! We loved the experience here! It doesn’t look like much from the front, you have to go to the back of the building and give them a password to get in. Once inside you truly feel like you’re in a bunker in WWII. The drinks are incredible, highly recommend the key lime martini and the espresso martini, as well as the love note. We didn’t order food but the cheese plate looked amazing. The bartender, David, was so friendly, and fun and makes some incredible drinks. We didn’t stay too late but he said they get some awesome late night entertainment - jazz singers and such. Definitely worth the stop!

This place is awesome. It’s an old VFW and still has lots of cool military stuff inside, but also has a cool speakeasy vibe. The service is amazing and the drinks are on point. I didn’t get food. We will be going back.

After stalking their Instagram account for months, I finally had the chance to visit this unique bar. It did not disappoint! Our party of four could not wipe the smiles off our faces for the entire visit. The atmosphere was magical. From the decor, to the music and even the clothing worn by staff, they really do take you back in time. Simon made us the most delicious cocktails...truly works of art. And, fun to watch him make them as well! We did not have food on this visit but plan to do so the next time we visit. Looking very much forward to doing so!

Google
Very cool place. You need a password at the door giving the place a speakeasy vibe. The password can be gotten from their IG account it does change. The food was amazing and the drinks were great. They have a back room where we sat since we had a larger party. Alli our server was amazing! She gave the best recommendations was sweet, funny, and attentive. The service, food, and vibes are great. Highly recommend.

We had a blast here! I enjoy speakeasies. This one has you give them the password at the walkie-talkie before you are allowed to enter. The password can be found on their IG. The ambiance is Roaring 20s and the Prohibition era. The crowd was anywhere from ages 21 to 60. Everyone was having a great time here. Drinking and dancing and laughing. Speakeasies were often concealed behind unmarked doors, in basements, or disguised as other businesses to avoid detection by law enforcement. Alcohol was illegal during the Prohibition era 1920-1933. The Armory does a great job of recreating a speakeasy. We both ordered their house soecial, the Old Fashioneds to stay on trend. They were well made. We loved the bartender. He puts on a great show at the bar! You need to come here! I can't wait to go back! You can also order food there. We had already had dinner, so we only ordered a drink. But I heard that the food was really good here. Parking is on the street, and there is also a parking lot in the back. There are no stairs to climb.

Google
What a cool place. Yes this is IN Key Largo! Close your eyes and you’re in a WWII dark glamorous nightclub you only see in movies. From the out the back parking lot you walk up to a Checkpoint Charlie style facade that leads to a bunker tunnel- but wait... you have to radio to the ‘generals’ inside that you want to gain entrance. Instructions are on the wall. The walker talkie is in the box. How fun! Then the lights flicker and a hole in the door opens up and a man asks “what’s the password?” Seriously?! I said, “Please?” He said, it’s on their Instagram intro. I look and pinned my hopes on the magic word: “Secure” (I think it changes) and the door opened. It had a slight smell of a winter campfire. 40’s music piped in. Nice crowd. Kudos to the interior designer. The apps were terrific; Olives and Hummus. Full bar. Hand crafted cocktails! Cool bartenders. Can’t wait to go back for more. Heavy apps. A few dinner options but don’t think of it as a dinner place. Note: this used to be the old Arthur’s Jamaica/Carribean Restaurant next to the hardware store that shared the space with the VFW Post. Just south of The Fish House.

Google
What an incredible evening! From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. A special thank you to the young gentleman at the front door (we didn’t catch his name) who greeted us with the unforgettable Armory chains and took care of us right away. To Huber, Maddie, Marlin, and the entire team—your VIP service and warm hospitality made our 17th anniversary celebration truly memorable. We’re so grateful for the experience! Most definitely coming back with family and friends. 🥰

Visited on a Friday night for my wife’s birthday evening at The Armory Speakeasy at the Post. It was wonderful we had reservations at 8 and left at 11:30 with a variety of cocktails and almost everything on the menu! Fantastic staff and ambience was amazing! 5 Star to the Armory! Make sure to visit them on social media for the passcode to get in and definitely make a reservation if you are going with. Party of 4 or more

Yelp
The food is amazing! Service and ambience is top notch!! Highly recommend!! It's fun to have the code to gain access to the building.

Yelp
You need a passcode! It's on insta. The very best key like pie martini in the world. Like a meringue on top that is toasted? Yum! The music is very loud. Very loud! It's a dark nightclub. Couches and fancy chandeliers. Latin dancing. French fries were awesome. But we were never given napkins or silverware and we were forgotten after awhile. Waited a long time to get our check. The bartender finally came over and checked on us. Fun place! Just slow!

Yelp
I visited the Armory last week for the first time after my cousins were raving about it. It's a speakeasy located in Key Largo, where you need a password to enter. The idea behind it is super cool, but my experience there was not my favorite. We went on a busy night and had to wait about an hour to be let it, which is totally fine and to be expected on a holiday weekend. However, folks kept going in before us even though we had put our names on the list well before them. Folks waiting outside with us agreed the logistics of entering were a bit confusing. Once inside it was packed. We snagged a table and our server was nice and explained the concept to us well. Their kitchen is open until 10, so we ordered the two desserts on the menu - donuts and creme brulee. Both were just ok. I enjoyed my dirty martini and my cousins enjoyed their cocktails. What I didn't love about the experience was that it was incredibly loud - the music was so loud that it was hard to talk, which is not the vibe I expected for a cool speakeasy. I'll have to give it another try perhaps not on such a busy weekend as the menu looks interesting and the cocktails were solid.

Yelp
Im a 15 year vet in Florida F&B and simply put ...... YOU MUST EAT & DRINK HERE!!! They hit all the checkboxes including vibe music lighting price quality and consistency...Get HUBER in VIP lounge.

Yelp
They have turned the VFW into a really unique spot. You don't see it from the front facing US1. Park in the back and enter the "bunker" surrounded by sandbags. You wave to call on the walkie talkie and give the password (found daily on IG). They guide you inside. The inside is really low light. Menus are back lit. They are easy to read. The food offerings are tapas style: sliders, hummus, cheese plate, carpaccio. They have wines, beer and well drinks. The well drinks are made with a flair. I watched an old fashioned be smoked inside a glass called by a skull device and the smoke came out the eyes and nose. Service was superb at the bar. The bartenders chatted it up with us. Be prepared that this unique spot is not inexpensive.

Yelp
Best drinks. Espresso martini, key lime pie martini, old fashioned and a amaretto disarono whiskey sour were the best we've ever had. The live music was on point and the service was top notch.

Yelp
This speakeasy is exactly what I look for. Hidden entry with password great drinks amazing service and good food. The ambiance was also perfect. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Loved this place! I really liked having to say the password from the walkie talkie and then having a wonderful bartender, Samuel, and lovely server, Maddie. I had the black ops espresso martini, which had vanilla bean sticks in the liquor. It was such a lovely drink and the speakeasy overall amazing. They played great jazz music and the ambiance was perfect. I am over an hour away and cannot wait to go again!

Yelp
Food needs finesse ... delicious ribeye croquettes... but the lamb was tough and the crème brûlée was not brûlée... missing the torch effect... however the cocktails were a hit!!

Yelp
A great restaurant honoring veterans. A secret. Speakeasy where you have to check online for the password to enter. Once you give the password you are granted access. It is a small dark room with a nice size bar. Service was great and friendly. Humus and wings were amazing. Try the freedom fries.. so good!! The Speciality cocktails rocked. This restaurant is a must if in key largo!

Yelp
What a great place !! The memorabilia in this place is phenomenal, a little war history, and great decor set the stage for a fun time. Glowing menus with snappy military themed names and delicious food! I came here for a surprise anniversary date with my partner and we were not disappointed! All of our drinks were exceptional, made by our bartender David. David is amazing, if you can score a seat at the bar not only does he make an excepting but gives you some drink history. Our service was on point! We had Bunker bites and truffle fries. Both were delish!!! Neither dish was over dressed meaning not over the top seasoning all was just right! We will be back, make sure you know the password.

Yelp
Highly recommend!! For starters these workers were busy for hours straight and KEPT IT MOVING. 2nd the manager is ON TOP of this game and deserves a raise. 3rd great drinks, amazing atmosphere and tasteful food. My partner agrees that this place runs smoothly and everyone communicates well in order to keep the night flowing. We truly enjoyed this night (away from Orlando) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! We will be back!

Yelp
We had an amazing experience at The Armory. Tbe place reminds me of an old but hip New York speak easy. Our bartender Chris was super professional and extremely cool. Everything he recommended frpm the menu was excellent. His misdemeanor is polite and cool at the same time. And his espresso martinis are the best I've ever had. You know, the foam on those espresso martinis that are so elusive, Chris' have it and the foam last and last forever. It was an absolute pleasure to have Chris help us. The armory is my new favorite place. Period!!!

Jeanie S.

Yelp
Wow! Just Wow! A Must attend! Very cool venu, atmosphere, and the server Berto was excellent. His knowledge & explanations of menu choices, suggestions & total service were above & beyond. We had the smoked Old Fashion which was fabulous! Our meal: one if a kind EVERYTHING! Elegently presented ( total eye candy) and the flavors...unbelievably delicious. Just GO THERE! WE'll be back, bring friends & recommend it to ALL of our friends. Oh...also there is a 15% $ discount for residents & Military . PS...must have the "password" to get in!

Yelp
What a gem! Creative cocktails, great bar bites in a unique setting and amazing service. Definite highlights were the cheese board, fries, and the key lime martini. Looking forward to a return visit. Arrive early, it gets full quickly.

Yelp
We Walked in New Year's Day 2025. After my wife was studying there social pages we found out the passcode for todays entry . After she spoke in to the microphone and gave the correct code we were greeted at the door by the staff. As we walked in we were immediately taken back by the speak easy vibes yet surrounded by military mementos and images of local veterans . What really got me was the table that was roped off and awaiting the return of the missing comrades of missing or fallen soldiers . It really hit hard. Staff was pleasant to talk and share stories about their speak easy. Custom drinks and custom made food was simply amazing . The smoked old fashioned was just what I wanted and I wasn't disappointed. When you need a break from the everyday keys life scene of fried dolphin sandwiches and conch fritters come here and unwind. I promise no matter what ya got going on, this place will remind you there's always a place to have a drink cause someone has always and will always fight for your freedom. Live laugh and thank a veteran .

Yelp
Key largo needed this now it's our go to spot for an amazing time Great drinks and music

Yelp
My husband and I were excited to check out this speakeasy, as the upper keys have limited nightlife options. We ordered two cocktails off the menu - both were fine. My husband's cocktail was a take on a rum runner and it tasted syrupy like something we would find at a hotel pool bar. For a higher end cocktail bar, I would expect fresh juices and more of an effort. We went off menu for our next two cocktails - old fashion and Manhattan. Two classic simple drinks. As soon as the waiter brought my Manhattan over, I knew it was made incorrectly. It looked and tasted like watered down whiskey with maybe a dash of sweet vermouth. The ambiance, theme and atmosphere is wonderful, but the service was very slow and the $17 cocktails were disappointing. At that price point, I would expect a three ingredient classic cocktail to be the least of their issues...

Yelp
Best new restaurant in Key Largo. The decor is beautiful. The best and first speak easy in Key Largo. We celebrated my mother's 80th birthday there and they made here feel amazing. The food is beyond delicious. The drinks are great and very reasonably priced! Elisa is the best waitress there! She goes out of her way explaining everything. This restaurant will be very successful!!

Yelp
What a charming place this is. It reminds me of some places I frequented in the Washington, DC area. It is classy, fun, with a dash of spookiness (coming from a former CIA spook). The bartender was fantastic and fascinating - definitely a professional. I didn't get to eat here this time- but the carpaccio is on my mind; maybe next time. It's like a little bit of Washington, DC charm (they DO have nice restaurants and bars), relocated to the Florida Keys. Pretty cool.

Gwen P.

Yelp
What an amazing concept! The place is very popular and busy. You wait in line before being escorted into a night of entertainment, drinks and fun. We had dinner as we lounged on the sofa with other guests. Enjoyed the food and lived the cocktail. Worth the wait!

Scott M.

Yelp
What an incredibly cool spot in Key Largo. The experience was outstanding. We enjoyed everything from the code word to get in, service, and incredibly comfortable seating. The smoked old fashioned was one of the best I ever had. We were also very surprised by the caliber of food. The sliders, short rib, and empanadas were excellent. We will definitely be regulars.

Julia F.

Yelp
The tunnel to get in is hot and they make you wait 20-45 minutes. They allow people to skip the line if they "know someone" inside.

Yelp
my new fav bar!! came here on a whim after watching a tik-tok about it, & was not disappointed! loved the speakeasy vibe! all the servers were so awesome & make you feel right at home! ordered an espresso martini with tequila for the first time (recommended by our server) & it was soooooo good. 10/10 will be coming back more often!

Yelp
Phenomenal!!!! Worth the wait in line!!! Great food. Jose is a sweetheart and Iza from Ibiza was great!!!! Great food. My filet mignon was delicious. The ambience is unique. Yelp
The food, ambiance, staff are terrific. The martinis are the best in the Keys! The short ribs are so delicious.. Such a special place to eat and drink, you have to experience it!!

Yelp
I went to this place last Saturday with two of my friends. We were granted access after giving the password. The door guy was very nice and eventually got us seats at the bar. The bartender Emily was very busy but had a GREAT attitude. She was quick with our drinks despite being slammed with orders from the servIce bar. I had the Smokey old fashioned and my friends both had expresso martinis, which were amazing. All three of us shared 2 orders of steak sliders, delicious! I would recommend this place this place to anyone visiting the keys.

Michelle W.

Yelp
Our server Elise was awesome!!! food was outrageous!!! drinks were extraordinary!!! We will definitely be back - so creative - love the vibe!!!

Kim B.

Yelp
atmosphere, food, drinks and service were all amazing! I will be visiting every time Im in the Keys!

Priscilla S.

Yelp
Horrible Experience! Worse service and rude stafff they came out screaming and disrespecting us . Will never go there again food is terrible and over priced. Not worth going. Will never go again and make sure to tell every local the same thing.

Rudy C.

Yelp
Food, Service and Ambiance are great. The bar bartenders are the best in the island.

Eric G.

Yelp
Let's start from saying great concept something different ambiance is good Service was good the waitress was pleasent and attentive Drinks were fine the Empanadas are excellent creme brulee tasty my only Complaint I ordered the filet Mignon with goat cheese mashed Potatoes at Market Price which I don't care about the price but a dusting of mashed potatoes and 6 slices of Steak did not impress give me a whole Steak and. A side mashed potatoes. Asparagus and charge accordingly .

Pinto P.

Yelp
Terrible .. waited 45 min and nothing .. the door person was rude ! So we left .... How can they be rude with people that waiting patiently to get to their place . I don't get it ! They will not see my money or anyone that I know that have houses here for vacation. ! To sad ! And the block me on their social media for my comment! Great job

Mack E.

Yelp
Great vibe. Enjoyed the food and the service was awesome! Would definitely recommend going there.

Katelyn R.

Yelp
Im going to start off by saying I know this is a new business! but this is the second time I've tried it in 2 months, the first experience was bad! 17$ drinks not being made correctly old fashioned claiming to be smoked that were not smoked at all and dirty martinis tasted like lemon, with a party of 8 and having all the same complaint throughout the party. honestly this restaurant doesn't have the greatest service this was the first night we had visited 2 months ago. tonight My husband came in with bagged and completely wrapped food with logo and sealed asking to get our car keys from me ( his wife ) to put it away in the car I normally understand that's not okay but this restaurant doesn't have the greatest cell phone reception so I was not Receiving text messages from him. I also never received a message from the hostess or quote on quote body guard so he had to wait 30 minutes outside of the restaurant before I was notified that he was there waiting to Get in. tonight I received an order of ceviche that was served with chip crumbs we asked if we could receive actual whole chips and they told us they smashed them up purposely to fit in a bowl that they prefer to serve them in so we started eating and we found a hair in our food. We did not ask for free food or anything to be complementary. But the manager came over, sat down with us and insisted that we were lying and there was never any hair on the plate of food. Honestly both me and the people we were sitting at the table work in the restaurant business so we did not expect anything for free we were letting them know as a courtesy. There's something wrong there's hair being served in the food we paid and left, but this being the second time that we've given this place a try, we will never be back.

Lisa F.

Yelp
Unfortunately I've tried the armory twice now and both experiences have been disappointing.

Alex A.

Yelp
Cool speakeasy in the Florida Keys. We were excited to try it. We went by for one round of cocktails. The Manhattan was good. Glass of Cabernet was well priced. Great ambiance. True speakeasy feel and vibe. We will be back to try some food and more cocktails.

Chris V.

Yelp
An enchanting speakeasy bar. Every detail is impeccable from the appetizers to the Bordeaux wine we tried. Great mixed drinks. Definitely will go again. Great ambiance with fantastic jazz. Our waitress was excellent. We really enjoyed it. Worth a drive from Miami!

Lois H.

Yelp
Visiting the area and decided to try a new experience. You need to go on Instagram to get the "password" of the day. The young man at the door was nice enough to get us in since I had the previous day's password. It's a Speakeasy so I get that it's really dark. I mean really dark, this is why their menu's light up. You can not see what you are eating (we ordered olives, a cheese board, bunker bites & empanadas along with a few drinks). I pulled a piece of hair off the cheese board in front of our waitress. I never said anything as I knew she watched me remove it and neither did she! We were seated on a small table for two in the back room. The "crooner" although not a great singer was extremely loud making it difficult to carry on a conversation and forcing other patrons to talk louder than necessary, thus making you hear their conversation even though you don't want to. Small menu, overpriced for what you get. Here is my biggest complaint- maybe this is noted and I didn't see it but THEY TIP THEMSELVES on your bill. AGAIN since it is so dark you can't see its added in to the bill. At the very least, the waitstaff should inform you there is a tip already added to your bill but you can add additional tips if you choose. I feel it's an underhanded business practice. I can't recommend a business who promotes this kind of practice.
