14 Best Pubs & Restaurants To Watch Football

"The Army & Navy doesn’t serve much in the way of food—Scampi and Bacon Fries aside—but only the most experienced regulars will know that this pub and football haven between Newington Green and Dalston is more than happy for you to order in. There are Yard Sale menus on the table, Micky’s Chippy is across the road, and Mangal 1 is a hop and a skip away. It isn’t hard to find a spot with a view of a screen inside or in the massive garden if you're at the Army & Navy for the football. This is the kind of boozer with more pixels than wall space." - jake missing

Hands down THE BEST BOOZER IN LONDON. It’s got proper heart and soul and everyone who works there is a total legend. Jimmy the guvnor, to Michelle behind the bar. I have been going to the Army and Navy for many years now and it’s the best looking, most traditional pub you can get in London. I can’t speak more highly of the place. The locals are friendly, the atmosphere is always top notch. On a sunny day there’s no beer garden like it, on a cold wintry evening, the inside is perfect. Nothing beats the Army and Navy. My favourite pub in the UK.

I love this pub - I couldn't recommend it more. I had my boyfriend's 50th birthday party in their huge beer garden and it was perfect. Jimmy and his lovely staff couldn't have done more to make sure everyone had a good time - they were all so kind and thoughtful and went out out of their way to be helpful. The pub itself is genuinely brilliant. An original London boozer that hasn't changed or been gentrified, a rare thing in Hackney. They've still got all their regulars and also get a younger crowd at the weekends especially in the beer garden. It works well. If you're ever passing through Dalston definitely stop for a pint or two. It also happens to be crowned London's Best Pub by Timeout, a well deserved accolade. Thanks again Jimmy for making the big birthday a party to remember!

Accidentally gave this place two stars originally in my pocket. Shocking how easy that is to do. Place was lovely. They’ve got a younger vibe out in the beer garden and then a quieter/older one inside. Highly recommend.

Decent pint of Guinness from a pub that’s not lost any of its character!

🚇 Dalston Kingsland 🍺 £5.50 Amstel ❤️ One of the best pubs in London. . I have visited The Army & Navy a few times over the years, usually on my way to see The Arsenal. My last visit was on St Patrick’s Day back in March this year. Getting here is easy, Dalston Kingsland station is a just five minute walk away. . This pub was built in the 1930’s by AE Sewell who was Truman Breweries principal architect. The pub retains many original features, is Grade II listed and is designed in a Neo Georgian style. . The decor oozes oldschool charm and the environment is welcoming and comfortable. There is a proper pub carpet, a good size bar, velour banquette bench seating, a dart board and for good measure, throw in a few TV’s showing live sport. One of the best features of this pub is the massive beer garden. There are loads of covered booths, TV’s showing live sport and also a new addition is the outdoor bar. . The beer selection is straight up reasonably priced keg options, there are a few craft beers available and the Guinness is well celebrated. The pub has recently teamed up with pizza gurus @yardsalepizza , so now you can have pizza delivered to the pub. . The atmosphere here is always warm and friendly, the pub attracts a broad crowd from all walks of life rather than just one demographic. This is down to Jimmy the Guv’nor who has been at the helm for the past 26 years and looks after his punters one and all. Jimmy gave me a tour of the pub and was telling me about how much work had gone in to the beer garden, which looks great. . The Army & Navy is one of my favourite pubs in London as it ticks so many boxes. There is the architectural heritage, old school decor, reasonably priced beer, a superb beer garden, welcoming atmosphere and the nicest Guv’nor you’ll ever meet. If you’ve not visited yet and want to experience how a pub should be, then put The Army & Navy at the top of your must visit pub list. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 17.03.23

Yelp
This pub is very much a locals pub and they range from the unfriendly (I'm sure we were told to 'f off' at some point and as we were leaving were sent off with a 'go on then') to the friendly (the bartender and one local at the bar who greeted us and had a bit of a chat with us). I'd probably stay away to be honest, based on the 'bad eggs' especially as drinkswise there was little to interest me (went for Bulmers on draught just as I'd only had it from a bottle before). Does show live football at 3pm on a Saturday though, which very few places do. I thought Army & Navy were sweets?
