On the Grid : The Art of Demolition

"Piles on piles of randomness fill the Art of Demolition. Visiting this shop will definitely leave you at moments chuckling as you rummage through the shelves. The shop has an abundance of retro vintage products that will feed your hunger for the obscure. In addition to carrying antique goodies, the shop also makes custom furniture." - Simone Ferkul

There is a vibe here. Its not just stuff, its a feeling. Uncomplicated, curated, fairly priced and staff who really love the story in the stuff.

I found this cool little antique shop while exploring the city and was pleased to discover they make custom furniture too! Their items are made to order, very custom and extremely well priced! I ordered a bookshelf and am now designing matching end tables with their help.  A great place in the city for unique and affordable pieces for your home!

My favorite vintage store in the city. Has many more esoteric and odd items then your conventional antique store. The prices are also better or at par to most. 10/10wouldbuyagain

Yelp
Wow. This place is so overpriced. The owners should realize that the people who enter their store are often collectors, and might know the market rate for items that they are collecting. Walking in here with a group of friends during a Junction holiday market weekend, we were greeted by a woman (clearly one of the owners) who was very friendly, at first. The longer we stayed, the more we noticed the random, salvage-y condition of the items throughout, and this owner walking around defending the unexpectedly high prices to anyone who seemed confused. We saw an excited customer flipping through a box of stereoscope cards on the "$10 or less table", grabbing a handful while noting aloud to her friend that they might be $1-2 each in their condition (keep in mind that they were all bent, eaten away at or stained). This owner barked at her "they are NOT $1 each! They are $10 each! They are over 100 years old!". The customer immediately shrunk away and put back everything she was buying. She said meekly "I know how old they are. Um, I collect stereo cards." Just because something is old doesn't mean it is in good resale condition. This is the problem with the direction that thrift/vintage is going in these days. It used to be that still-usable items in good condition would go for a reasonable price. Now, it's ANYTHING old, even if you need a tetanus shot just to hold it. Best of luck to this store. Hopefully they make nice with rich people who don't mind paying hundreds of dollars for rust couture. Try Williams or Door Number 2 in the same vicinity if you want reasonably priced antiques.

Yelp
Art of Demolition is a funky little shop in the Junction. It is on Keele a half-block north of the Dundas and Keele intersection on the west side of the street near the pay parking lot. While a sign warning you that you are on camera serves as your only greeting ( the person at the counter in the back either "does not speak" or "leaves you alone to let you shop" depending on how you look at it.) Art of Demolition has a nice range of old eclectic stuff similar to what you would see at a flea market. Old license plates, records, and posters, as well as larger items such as chest coca cola coolers (they had a fairly nice one for 700$) are here as well. Recently, they did some spring cleaning/reorganizing so it is much easier to navigate the small space. If you like old odds and ends, The Art of Demolition may have that special something you were looking for.

Yelp
The Art of Demolition is a cute little shop in the junction. They are very nice and say hello when I come in. The shop is nice and warm so it's nice to chat with the girls for awhile, you can tell they're very passionate about what they do and they always have something interesting to say. I've never been to a store like them, it's tidy unlike older antique stores and their stuff is always changing. It ranges from antique to curios to custom furniture. Bonus! There's a friendly cat in the store named Doughnut.
