10 Best Places for Live Music in Dublin | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Auld Dubliner is one of those pubs that seems too good to be true. A classic, old-school Dublin boozer with its exposed brick walls and its original walls, it’s easily spotted in the thumping heart of Temple Bar: the side of the building is festooned with a mural of a beer-bellied docker in a captain’s hat, who's amiably watching a dog lift his leg and take care of business against the wall of a pub identified as the ‘Auld Dubliner.’ Inside, there’s live music virtually all day, a mixture of traditional and contemporary. This place is a lot of fun, but be warned: it trades largely on its appeal to tourists, who are offered an ‘authentic Dublin experience’ of beer, laughter, and music. The beer is good, the laughter is genuine, and the music is (usually) top notch, so what harm that locals refer to it as the ‘Aul’ Foreigner’?" - Fionn Davenport

Google
We only intended to stop in for one beer, but even on a Wednesday, it was packed! Luckily, we found a spot at a table. There was lively live music, creating a fantastic atmosphere, and a patriotic bartender who kindly recommended a local beer over an import

Google
Fantastic place to stay in Dublin. Central in the temple bar area, rooms are clean, modern and have a fantastic shower. It's a close walk to shops on Grafton, and Mary Ln. Even the Jameson distillery isn't too far. The bar downstairs is fantastic. Service is super friendly and all the staff are welcoming. Prices are average for the Templebar area, but expected. Next time in Dublin, I am definitely booking here again. 1000% recommend, especially as a solo traveler.

Google
This is a sweet spot when staying in Dublin! You are on the edge of everywhere you want to be! Very clean, great bar with live musicians constantly changing daily. The most friendly environment with awesome staff.

Matt Brown

Google
Visited June 2025 weekday afternoon. OK, it is Temple Bar area and the prices reflect that. But they have some outdoor barrel seating on fleet street that is great for people watching. Far enough away from the tumult of Temple Bar Square, but close enough to see the action.

Google
Easy check in and great location for accessing everything! As it is on Temple Bar, it is really loud at night, however ear plugs are provided and didn't worry us too much - it goes dead quite around 2am once pubs close. Tidy place though

Richard Behrens

Google
Had a pint of Guinness and some Red Breast 18 in one of the most iconic pubs in Dublin. It was pleasantly busy, but not crowded, and there was some live music. Good times!

Jillian Jennett

Google
Came in for a drink after dinner at a nearby pub and enjoyed a great crowd and even better music - the staff were attentive and the place was crowded but never overwhelmingly so

Rachel Mercer

Google
2nd visit. Central bar. Great view of temple st area for people watching . All round bar area so better for getting served. Great music ans vibe. Staff were chatty too.

Yelp
I came here a few times. They have live music starting in the early evening. They have casamigos tequila, which is not everywhere in Ireland. It's right in the main strip in Temple Bar, it's a lot of fun.
google avatar

Yelp
Great pub live music the whole time. Food was amazing! The bangers and mash were perfect to fill up on before a day of drinking. Great friendly bartenders will go back for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
We went here on a Friday night. The bar was full when we got there around 7pm but not overly crowded. The musician was great and played some popular hits. It was raining pretty hard while we were out, which made the Temple Bar area quite empty. We found the bartenders and the other people there were very friendly. The group behind us spilled their drinks about 3 times and the last one just about got them kicked out.

Yelp
Stopped into Auld Dubliner while exploring Temple Bar in Dublin. This is a solid pub choice for locals and tourists alike, and the staff are quick to offer suggestions. The Irish Coffee was delicious, and we discovered a new way to drink Guinness here - with the addition of blackberry liquor. I've never seen/heard do that being a thing, but it was an interesting change! Enjoyed the local ambiance and friendly patrons here as well!

Yelp
Listen, I am only one for negative reviews when it is truly deserved, but I truly do not understand how this has a four star rating. Let me start by saying our service was fine - standard and nothing over the top - but also nothing negative to say here! However, the food was not ideal. None of it was inedible or gross - but every single dish was pretty flavorless and bland; all of our (6 people) had to add copious amounts of salt and pepper to everything. I would recommend for the atmosphere and live music downstairs - but maybe just grab a drink at the bar and don't stay for dinner.

Yelp
Fun place with good live music! Everyone was singing and having a great time! Bar tenders were very attentive!
google avatar

Yelp
Great tourist pub in the heart of Temple Bar. Wonderful music daily. Fair prices for the part of town you are in. They pour an adequate Guinness. Bartenders are friendly and fast.
google avatar

Gloria C.

Yelp
Fun place to hang out and have some beers and listen to live Irish music! Fun place to unwind and enjoy the fun atmosphere!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this pub. I've met some amazing people here and enjoy the fish and chips. The Guinness pour is top notch.

Yelp
On our last day in Dublin, we walked down the street to the Auld Dubliner to have a pre-dinner drink. While we couldn't go inside to the warmth of the pub interior due to the lockdown measures at the time, we did enjoy sitting outside at one of the barrel tables as we sipped on cider and whiskey, chatting with the locals. When we're back in Dublin, we will return for sure since we enjoy staying down the street from the Auld Dubliner in Temple Bar. This place was solid, and I am sure it will be better once we can sit inside and enjoy the atmosphere and the music.

Yelp
Just been to this bar for the first time on 29/12/2024 with my girlfriends family who are all white except me and the bouncer on the door not Irish but white was clearly racist as I was not drunk had 2 drinks and was refused back in. Disappointed with this as I enjoyed the Irish experience: food, drink, music & dancing. Put a downer on the whole experience. Should be noted by the bar owner and sacked in my opinion as I have seen reviews of similar nature.
google avatar

Robyn M.

Yelp
My husband and I got a few pints here and some shots. It was a blast! Live music was fabulous and had all the pub-goers dancing and singing along. Bartenders were very quick and a pleasure to talk to. We even met a few locals here. Great time!

Yelp
While exploring Temple Bar with my gal pals, this place drew us in with its wonderful live music emanating from its doors and windows. We quickly found ourselves to the restaurant upstairs for our first meal in Ireland. The menu has all the traditional Irish dishes and it even includes vegan options. I ordered the fish and chips, which did not disappoint. The service was slow but this could've been due it being mainly a bar.

Yelp
Cool little bar right across the street from a great place for food. The Boxty House. We came here for the drinks and live music. Both were appreciated. We wanted to do more of the mixed drinks and cocktails but the beer was calling us. My friend got the chicken wings and they were super tasty but nothing crazy. It was a Wednesday night and they still had a guy playing live music. He was taking requests and was really good. He even knew some more obscure american jams but he specialty was irish rock. A great place to visit just for a beer and music.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
Came in on a relatively quiet night and wanted something light. The waiter recommended cream of chicken soup, which was delicious! Rounded it off with a good gin and tonic. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Would love to see this place hopping once Covid restrictions are fully lifted, it's clearly meant to fit a crowd.
google avatar

Perry S.

Yelp
Went to dinner on a Saturday. I was looking forward to having the seafood chowder and the Irish stew but both items are no longer on the menu. It appears that a number of items have been removed from the menu that is shown in the pictures. So, I had the fish and chips. The piece of fish was huge and the chips were nice and crisp. In terms of the atmosphere it was plenty loud even in the restaurant upstairs- lots of group singing going on downstairs in the bar. The service staff were on the ball and very attentive. Would recommend but only if you don't mind the noise level.
google avatar

Esme H.

Yelp
I had a nice little time here on my last evening in Dublin they didn't have any tequila shots but we may do I thought the drinks for very expensive Only paid for my first one and then another gentleman and his friends paid for the rest of my drinks for the rest of the evening that was very nice this was a very loud crazy pub with live music I would recommend it's just very expensive A shot of vodka should not be €10
google avatar

Jess R.

Yelp
We had so much fun at the Auld Dubliner. We came in here for some Smithwick's Red Ales and had a blast listening to the amazing live music and dancing around. We even made some great friends here! Definitely stop in for a pint!
google avatar

Ally P.

Yelp
We were early for dinner and was told it there was a band downstairs but seating upstairs as well through Door 25. We got upstairs and it had nice tables around the bar and only one other couple in there at the time. The bartender served us and was super friendly and helpful! We got the black pudding and chicken curry and loved both! They even gave a side of fries with the curry that were great to dip in the curry!! The serving was perfect and couldn't even finish it and the bartender didn't rush us but definitely checked in on us to where we didn't feel we were wanting to get a hold of her!! We could hear the music but it was not distractingly loud for a nice relaxing dinner! For my first dinner in Dublin it definitely made a fantastic impression!!
google avatar

Yelp
We came into the Auld Dubliner on a whim, choosing it over another place based on Yelp reviews. We chose to sit upstairs as downstairs was much too loud thanks to the guitarist who was playing at the time. The modest beer selection had some nice options as did the menu. My wife and I chose our dishes -- she had a salmon salad and I had one of the "traditional" (touristy) meals. The food was alright, but the service was spot-on. Our food was served quickly and accurately. The piace is kind of divey, but that's okay. It works well for Dublin's Temple Bar area.

Yelp
Now if you want a true Irish pub drinking experience, then head on over to one of my personal favorites, Auld Dubliner, which is located right in the middle of Temple Bar. When the sun is up, the Auld Dubliner is a great place to get away from all of the hustle and bustle that is the city of Dublin. But once nighttime approaches, this beautifully designed pub becomes alive with the energy of locals and tourists alike. I happen to pop in here once and ordered some pints of cider with my friends. The table next to us were a group of local musicians. They picked up their instruments, started playing and broke into an Irish song or two. It really made for an excellent few hours on a gloomy Sunday afternoon. Plus this great Irish pub is a few steps away from my favorite place to down a few in Dublin...Oliver St John Gogarty.

Yelp
Met a couple of colleagues and had a bit of a pub crawl and started off here.Great spot Guinness was great as was the craic
google avatar

Gina H.

Yelp
Great drinks. Fun music. Friendly service. Recognizeable tunes! Bland vegetarian cheese pasta (idk why...)
google avatar

Alexandra M.

Yelp
By far one of the most recognizable and famous pubs in Dublin, the Auld Dubliner remains a popular choice with all ages. On the street that Temple Bar was named after, there's always good craic going on here. People are normally spilling in and out of the pub's doors and archways. A friend of mine sings and plays guitar here and there's other great musicians who perform during the week upstairs. Live music enhances the party atmosphere. There's decent food as well. The pub offers traditional hot and cold meals with my personal favourite being the Irish Lamb Stew. On a Sunday, you can go wrong with this dish. The decor is worth mentioning as well. The pub has an all wood interior with stained glass windows and interesting framed pictures. The inside reminds me of an old country pub. Very quaint and cozy!
google avatar

Jo M.

Yelp
The craic is mighty at the Auld Dubliner, and the place is often packed to the rafters with revellers from all over the world. You might find getting to the bar a seemingly impossible feat - never fear, just smile sweetly and ask one of the many bar flies to move over so you can order your Guinness. And not bad Guinness either... I'm not one to drink the stuff normally (sacrilege!), but I must say I've had a good pint or two here. If the pub is less than completely full take the time to have a look at the piccies on the wall. There are some famous peeps to be seen. I spotted Bill Bailey and Stephen Fry, and there's more where that came from! We happened to be at the Auld Dubliner last night after the first of U2's swag of concerts at Croker. Needless to say it was a U2-themed affair, which involved hundreds of fans screaming out the lyrics to Vertigo and Everlasting Love. My friend was lucky enough to be serenaded by a particularly drunk U2 fan... ah to be in her shoes!!!

Yelp
The relationship I have with the Auld Dubliner is a part of my soul. At 18, I came to Dublin with a friend on a quick holiday. Being that it was our first time in Ireland, we came to Temple Bar first. We picked the Auld Dubliner because from the street, we could hear the great live music inside, and we saw some friendly faces inside enjoying the vibes. We didn't know what to expect, but loved the music and how crowded it got (easily making friends). It was pricey, but about what we paid in Boston, so we didn't blink an eye. A year later, I returned to Dublin to work for the Seanad. I quickly became a regular at the Auld Dubliner. Upstairs, we were able to grab a quick bite before quickly heading downstairs for some great live music of all our favorite songs (and all the Irish cliche classics). My first Dublin memories were made here, and it was great to come back. Nothing had changed a bit. Fast forward to now, about 7 years later, I just made it back to my good friend the AD, and I can confidently say nothing about this place has changed (in a great way). If you are looking for a pub that has found their perfect recipe for drawing in a happy clientele, this is it. The Auld Dubliner keeps me coming back for more, and is one of the best bars in the Temple Bar area for a really fun time. You will pay tourist prices (6-7 euro a beer) and you will hear crowd pleasing songs from the live musician. You will meet a ton of other tourists, many of whom are English, Scottish, and Irish. You will definitely make some memories, and you will want to come back.

Yelp
This pub has so much Irish soul. My friend recommended this pub as the best for music and Irishman Brian Brody delivered on acoustic guitar. He is a super-nice guy and is also uber-talented. The crowd adored him and belted out both traditional Irish tunes as well as classic rock-and-roll. Fun crowd which was a mix of both young and old coming together for a fun time.
google avatar

Kim C.

Yelp
We were trying to squeeze in a quick meal of fish and chips on our last afternoon in Dublin. We were surprised with the best fish and chips of our trip! The music is great as well!
google avatar

kevin f.

Yelp
Great food; the Steak and Guiness pie was first rate. The wife loved the Fish & Chips, and the Smithicks Blonde was a perfect accompaniment. The upstairs has good seating for dining, and the music is still enjoyable from downstairs. Only knock is (surprise) the bands play what you'd expect anywhere else in the world- it is what it is. The closest to Irish Trad in a pub in Ireland these days is an old U2 tune.
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
We were in Dublin, had seen previous reviews for this being a good place to go and happened by it whilst in Temple Bar. All in all there wasn't anything special about the place. The coddle was not great and the music when we were there was mostly acoustic covers of 90's alternative. All in all I felt like I could've been in any number of "Irish" pubs in America. All in all the staff was friendly. If you are in the area pop your head in and maybe have a pint, but don't stay here for food are an evening of drinking as there appear to be many better options in the vicinity.
google avatar

Lee F.

Yelp
Great music, plenty of drinks and beer, and, one of the Temple Bar's favorite watering holes.
google avatar

Emily Y.

Yelp
We walked in and immediately grabbed a table. After sitting there for about 10 minutes without zero service, my husband walked to the bar to order 2 Guinness's and grab some menus. The bartender watched where we sat so we assumed (wrongly) that he would stop over to grab our food order. 20 minutes passed. The bar crowd died down. Still no service. We left. The only reason why I'm giving 2 stars is because the Guinness tasted fresh. Otherwise 0 stars. Horrible service... well, no service at all. Went around the corner to the Old Storehouse. Talk about a 180. Don't waste your time here.
google avatar

edel n.

Yelp
Loved this pub back in the day when Temple Bar was run down, live impromptu sessions were the norm and lock ins were de rigeur. Times have moved on and Temple Bar has been reinvented as has the Aul Dubliner. But the Guinness is still good, there's live music from 2pm and it opens late.. Nuff said. Beware, it does get packed but where doesn't in Temple Bar.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
When I had to walk past a TGI Fridays and a Hard Rock Cafe to get here, and then be ushered in by a woman with menus outside of the door, I really should have paid attention to all of the warning signs and walked right on by. But, after a long day trip and an empty belly, these red flags were less than obvious. So we had dinner. I started with a pint of Guiness and ordered the fish and chips. I think my finace got them too. Fish was mushy and tasteless, reminiscent of a frozen fish microwaved. The batter was too heavy and came off in large, disgusting chunks. Super overpriced for the quality and the Guiness was nearly 7 euros. Shit. What a shame.

Racheal W.

Yelp
This is one of the more traditional bars on Temple. The food is mediocre, typical bar food but I couldn't complain. The music is what made is such a great place for me. Around 1pm on most days, they star acoustic guitarists with incredible talent. I went to about every bar in the area for their advertisements of live music and this one had the best talent. They played everything from Johnny Cash to Journey before moving on to the traditional Irish ballads. I loved and nothing can beat the vibe!
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
My favourite pub in Dublin ! The staff is so friendly, the beer so good and singers are just fantastic ! Go upstairs for more space, and not as busy as the ground-floor...
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
If you can come to this pub any night that there is live music on as the musicians are always great, create a fab atmosphere and play infectious music! The Guinness is great here too.
google avatar

Carlos O.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the single platter I had which came with some good wings, mushrooms, and chicken fingers. After I ate I went downstairs because the restaurant is upstairs and saw live music. You get to meet a lot of Irish locals which was great.
google avatar

Ian O.

Yelp
The food and drink were fine. But if I wanted to hear live US music I would have stayed in the states. One of my least favorite bars during my visit.
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
The craic is always great at The Auld Dubliner. The place is filled wall-to-wall with people from all around the world having a good time. Most of the time, the live music is excellent. And it's a great place to have a beer and watch a football or rugby match.
google avatar

Laurie B.

Yelp
Went looking for traditional Irish music and good food for lunch. Got neither. The stars are for the decor - very old but well maintained beautiful bar! The server was sweet but busy. The musician played a few Irish folk songs but just as many American and none uplifting. The food was downright awful. I hadn't eaten in over 24 hours so a shoe would have tasted delicious to me but UGH! I ate half and left the rest. Unfortunately we wasted a full hour and 15 mins of our precious time here. Very slow food prep! Perhaps this is a fun night atmosphere but steer clear at lunch!
google avatar

Sharan S.

Yelp
Very unpleasant experience at this place, i just got demanded for change by the homeless couple while standing outside the bar, when i refused for the change the woman punched me on my face and security was standing there watching their customer getting punched When i asked them why didnt you told them to walk away, they replied we are not your private security, i mean what the fuck !! guys drinks are on outrages prices, i personally recommend not to waste your time going there and wasting your money.
google avatar

Caterina P.

Yelp
Felt like a real Dubliner.. loads of beer everywhere! And.. there's a woman in the loo who passes you the soap and the toilet paper... wat da fu..?!
google avatar

Bobby B.

Yelp
Avoid this tourist trap like the plague. Between the over-priced beers, the singer banging out Bon Jovi songs on his acoustic guitar, and the weirdly hostile bouncers, this place epitomizes everything you'd expect from a bar that expects no repeat business. Temple Bar is a tourist zone but there are numerous places nearby that know how to treat their customers with respect.
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Decent pub. This place is pretty lively and exciting. Traditional decor and live music are great.
google avatar

Christina B.

Yelp
The menu was a little disappointing. Not much variety. The food was OK. I think that there are some other places with better Irish food. As a place to grab a pint it's good, but as a restaurant, it's meh.
google avatar

Mathilde S.

Yelp
I love this pub !! I love live music specialy irish songs, this food, drinks, the very sympathic staffs, the place, the crazy atmosphere ....;-) I want to come back, a day maybe...
google avatar

Christopher D.

Yelp
Just about as classic Irish Pub as they come. A proper pint of Guinness and some hearty stew will do you well on a rainy Dublin day. Be sure to bring your favorite James Joyce reads.
google avatar

Rónán C.

Yelp
A bit less touristy than the Temple Bar across the road but more or less the same thing. It's not uncommon for revelers to carry their pints from one to the other without too much hassle. Don't expect to find many actual Dubs in here, and there are far superior pints to be had elsewhere. I would like to cite Keoghs, Anseo and Brogans in this regard, to name but a few.
