I recently visited this place and was seriously impressed! The burger was amazing, you could smell and taste the real wild meat, which gave it a unique and authentic flavor you don't find everywhere. It was juicy, perfectly cooked, and full of character. The pizza was also delicious, with a great balance of toppings and a crust that was just right. Everything tasted fresh and well-made. Overall, it’s definitely a spot I’d love to visit again. Great food and a memorable experience!

Had the famous burger here, which was great. The Bag is an old-school apres ski bar. It was jam-packed today, and we all had a fantastic experience. You can't get much better than this place after a long day of skiing!

After a day of skiing and cold air, this was a great atmosphere to come and eat. The drinks were good, excellent service, and hot pizza! Drinks were never emptied. Service was on point

It is a bar/restaurant with good food. Their burgers, pizza are good after a good day of skiing. It is sometimes busy but they have always been very friendly.

We have been going here for over 20 years. However, the last two visits have determined we will never be back. Looking past the rude hostesses (always). We come to our visit yesterday. My wife and I were told if we could find two stools at the bar we could sit down. We found two stools at the bar and sat down. Little did we know we were sitting at a “server station”. There was no sign and there were stools in front of it. As we were sitting there, enjoying our drinks, and waiting for our food, we quickly learned as one by one, servers began to put things in front of us and push them very close to us. We were left with no space. Instead of just telling us we were in a “server station”, an overweight female server (visibly in a bad mood) came and plopped a tray of flatware down and began to roll it in napkins. She was unapologetic and acted like we were in her way. As soon as we had the opportunity, we shifted to avoid her. We will never be back. It’s a shame because I heard many others talking about the rude nature of their service.

I went two days in a row…. Burgers are my favorite food and this is a top 3 burger IMO. The dijoneise, the meat, the bun, are all top notch. It has a diner style taste, but you can tell they have mastered this burger and put a lot of care into the cooking and ingredient choice.

Stopped in for a early dinner after the lifts stopped running. We were completely satisfied and will return in the future. Atmosphere is great,Food was amazing and our waitress was awesome.

Awesome gluten-free pizza probably the best we've had Waitstaff was awesome. Drinks were a little pricey atmosphere was very country. Wait times were minimum. The smell coming from the kitchen was awesome. There she is here she comes

The Bag is an iconic part of Sugarloaf! It's got the best Après Ski vibe, and it's a fun place to meet up with friends and grab a beer and watch the skiers. The food is delish, whether a Bag Burger or their Bag Monster pizza, you won't be disappointed. Michele makes the desserts and greets you as you enter! The bar service is always the best, Lisa watched our kids grow up there! It's like Cheers, where everybody knows your name!

The Bag and Kettle has been serving hungry Sugarloafers since 1969. Stopped in for lunch on a beautiful fall afternoon in Carrabassett Valley. Peak foliage time! Busy lunchtime, with a lively no frills atmosphere. The menu was streamlined. Typical pub fare, wings, burgers, pizzas and salads. Full bar available with a good selection of draught beer. I ordered the Dior Burger, an 8oz. beef patty cooked a perfect medium, slathered with garlic herb cheese, and fresh fries. The burger was hot, tender, fresh and flavorful on a toasted brioche bun. Yum! There is nothing so incredibly satisfying as a well executed burger! Great low key eatery with really good food! Highly recommend.

The breadsticks with pesto were sooo good! It was almost like a pizza. I got the seafood chowder because I didn't want to eat too much/too heavy since I knew we were going back out to ski but it was pretty disappointing. There was a lot of potato and it was kind of watery. My friends said the burgers were really good though. The chips were nice and crispy. It's also pretty pricey, but I think that's what you get for being in the middle of nowhere next to a ski mountain. I don't like that you have to go downstairs to go to the bathroom - way too difficult. But the decor is nice and the service was good!

They have been at the base lodge since 1969. Today was the last day of their "summer season". This did not affect the food that they sent out of the kitchen. I ordered the Dior burger ( garlic spread) lettuce, tomato and onion cooked medium. The burger and fries came out perfectly. The fries were double fried so had a crispy coat and soft center. The meal was served with a fantastic pickle which cut through the richness of the Boursin cheese and fries. We also splurged and shared a dessert. We ordered the peanut butter/chocolate pie. This pie was fantastic. It came with a chocolate crust and delicious peanut butter and chocolate mousse. The service was efficient. The restaurant is a bit dated but had a nice vibe and good music. The Bag and Kettle will reopen in November so don't forget to head there this winter.

This is classic Sugarloaf. It is an iconic spot with famous burgers and a perfect location at the base of the lift. You must go there if you are at Sugarloaf.

Great chili! $10 for a bowl. Baguette on side is $3 more. No free soda refills is super lame. Good place to warm up mid ski day if thats your thing. Cheese fries were nasty looking but were pretty good. Fries were crunchy but looked soggy. Pepper jack cheese?!

Pretty much only place to eat in this area during summer. I ordered some burgers and was surprisingly good. Located right next to Sugarloaf ski resort which located middle of nowhere. Nice to find a place like this in this deep inside of mountain. Service was good and no problems. One down side is that they don't offer much. No onion rings :( I will definitely come back next year.

Post-skiing the Loaf there is no other place you should be than the Bag. There is then no other item you should order than the Bag Burger with extra bag sauce. I don't understand why it is so amazingly delicious, maybe it's because I'm cold, tired, and hungry, but there is nothing more satisfying than a beer and burger after a long day on the slopes. The burger is massive and extremely filling. The curly fries were crispy and warm. They do have other designer burgers that looked fantastic, plus a full menu ranging from soups and salads to sandwiches, but I can really only vouch for the burger. In light of covid-19, they have taken all ketchup bottles off of the table and will bring you a small plastic container if you need some. The ambiance is a little dark and dingy, very much in line with and Old English Pub and the booth tables are extremely small, even for three people. The restaurant was about 1/3 full and we had pretty decent service. Not speedy, but she definitely didn't forget about us for long periods of time like other aprés-ski establishments often do.

Perfect stop to fuel up on great food and drinks after a full day on the mountain. Every app and main dish was devoured. The vibe was very chill and service was great even on a busy Saturday.

Wow. This place is great...so good in fact, that we ate here for lunch twice and dinner once during our four day stay at Sugarloaf. I ordered several different types of soups (delicious!!) and we got a Greek pizza, which was unique and very filling. My husband ordered two different sandwiches; his favorite being the Garden (pepperoni). The drinks were reasonable and the service was super friendly. Definitely worth the visit if you're on the mountain.

I don't know what happened but Very disappointing. We went here because of the menu specials which was showing calamari, ahí tuna. They did not have these specials. We ordered the garlic baguette: it was good and freshly made. The Maine seafood chowder sounded so good after a full day of skiing but it was very basic and lacked flavors. We ordered the pepperoni pizza, we thought it was going to be the best pizza ever because of the signs about being freshly mande in house. The presentation was good and a good size but also lacked flavor.

Good food and local beer close to the mountain. The friendly staff hustles to get your order so that you can get back to the slopes.

A much needed meal after a long day on the slopes. Looking for tavern comfort food? This is the place. Located right next to the base lodge and eager to please the bag and kettle serves up tasty food with excellent service. Kim was a sweetheart after she kindly reminded us no outside beverages allowed in the restaurant. Our mistake but be warned those are the rules so chug em if you got em. I got the children's chicken fingers, and they were scrumptious, don't be fooled they don't come with Curley fries ( haven't been in the menu for 3 years ) they are straight cut but still yummy, and LOCAL! Some of my cohorts ordered the soup of the day obviously with a baguette and butter, the burger and the Rueben all tasty all hit the spot. Ps. The White Russians will get you where you are going. 5 stars go out to the bag and fact they have been around since 1969, what a year what a time. Love ya ~ and we mean it.

Worst restaurant experience I can remember in a very long time. Rude waitress, forgotten drinks, wrong food received. When a burger had the wrong toppings the waitress took her bare hands and pulled off the toppings infront of the whole table. One of the people in our party never received their food and as we continued to ask about it we kept being lied to about it coming out. 45 minutes after we were all done eating, the burger came out as we watched 7 other burgers go to other tables long before. At this point we asked the burger to be boxed to go and taken off the bill. Shocked that this wasn't offered and we had to ask. Then we received our checks and every single one was incorrect. 0/5 Don't recommend.

Wow, let me tell you how great my experience was at the BAG! Atmosphere as always is great. The music not to loud and the pub vibe is very class. Food took 20 minutes and my BAG burger was delicious. The crispy steak fries a little disappointing and would have loved to have their old curly fries. My shirley temple was promiscuous and the total came out to 22 dollars. All in all great experience and great food. I rate it a 8/10

There is no better burger than the Bag Burger. The garlic mayo is AWESOME!! Add curly fries and a cold draft, and you're talking nirvana. It's a must. You gotta go!!

The Burger was mediocre at best and took a long time arrive. It was not a great experience and I would not recommend.

Well priced, locally made beer and the best burger around, hands down. Make sure to get extra bag sauce. If you get anything other than the burger you may be a little disappointed. Hands down the best apres spot at Sugarloaf. Gucci burger for life! Go see Sue-Bo at the bar, she is an angel. I don't think there is bike parking but there is definitely ski parking. Just remember ski boots are hard to walk in drunk.

really good food! I ordered the "quad lift" sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the "ruben" great after snowboarding on sugarloaf. also they let us sit where we wanted, right by the window!

Was at Sugarloaf for a ski weekend and this spot was perfect. Right at the base of the mountain, it was super convenient. We went for lunch for a break while snowboarding and the soup was awesome served with fresh bread. We went as a big group for dinner one night and the waitress was awesome! We ordered a mix of burgers and pizza and all were great. The bag sauce was really taste. The only downside was that it took a while for things to come out and they forgot to bring us boxes to go. It's understandable with how busy it was though. Overall a great spot with great food for a ski mountain whether stopping during skiing for a meal or going for a casual dinner. I'd recommend!

The Bag is a small, welcoming restaurant lying on Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine. It is a fantastic place to eat after skiing, or even if you're not skiing and are just trying to grab a bite to eat. Every time I walk into the Bag I feel welcomed, and treated with the utmost respect. The tables are great if you're not trying to sit at the bar. The Bag has multiple booths which makes the experience ten times more comfortable. When I'm not sitting down at my booth or table enjoying my well-cooked food, you can find me in the arcade. The arcade provides so many entertaining games such as car racing and claw machines. If the arcade isn't satisfying your entertainment needs, there's multiple T.V.'s scattered throughout the pub. The Bag offers a variety of options to much down on. Whenever I go to the Bag the food is top-notch; the food always seems to be better than the last time. My favorite meal they serve is the Bag Burger. The Bag Burger is spectacular and always satisfies my appetite. The Bag Burger comes with warm buns, a burger patty cooked however you like it, lettuce, and a juicy slice of tomato. The Bag Burger also comes with tons of fries, and the best sauce in the world! I always put fries in my Bag Burger, it seems to add a nice crunch to it. The Bag Burger also comes with a nice pickle on the side. I always end up having to eat my families pickles for them. As for drinks, I always end up getting a Shirley Temple or root beer. In my opinion, the Shirley Temple is always the way to go. The Bag is a great sit down restaurant. You can always rely on the waitresses to treat you well, and the cooks to serve you delicious food. The Bag is a great place to treat the kids and an even better place to grab a quick drink. However; the Bag isn't the place for quiet, romantic dining. If you happen to be searching for somewhere to eat and study or relax; the Bag is not the right option. The atmosphere in the Bag is loud and anxious. Overall, the Bag gets 5 stars in my book.

I have been dining at the Bag & Kettle for 21 years (since I was 3 years old). I have spent many an afternoon there with my family and friends and I don't think there is another restaurant on Earth that holds such an esteemed place in my heart. The food is just wonderful. The menu is extensive with a variety of hearty pub fare which is a perfect warm-up after a chilly morning on the slopes. When I was younger, I was a huge fan of their chicken burger. Now I'm a sucker for the classic Bag Burger. Their buns are baked daily and their curly fries are wonderful. They even have a delightful secret sauce. On Wednesdays and Sundays they feature Cheeseburger Soup which I am completely crazy about it (a superbowl and baguette will fill you right up). It's such creamy goodness and I am salivating just thinking about it. Their pizzas are great too. They also are a microbrewery and they offer a variety of tasty beers, but I usually go for a nice bottle of Ballentine Ale which features riddles on the caps. On busy weekends it's best to head in around 11 to avoid the lunch rush. It's also a nice apres ski place for dinner or a few drinks at the bar. Enjoy!

Fantastic burgers and pizza served slopside at sugarloaf. Our waiter was super easy going and the food came out lightning quick. I did not have a chance to try the beers since I forgot my ID in the car but the rest of my group said they were great.

We've been coming here for over 10 years and love this place! The Bag Burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had. I usually take the other half home. Their pizza is very good too! The atmosphere and staff are very accommodating. We're there every Saturday during ski season.

There are only a handful of places to eat and drink at for apres ski, and The Bag & Kettle is probably your best choice. It's a small cozy establishment, with the dining room on the left consisting of about 15-20 tables, and a small bar area on the right with several LCD TV's playing sports games. When you walk in, don't wait for a hostess to seat you as this is a seat yourself establishment. During happy hour (around 3-4 PM), they serve you slightly less than a pint of microbrew draft beers for $2.50. The beers are not the best, somewhat muddled but will get the job done, plus you will get to taste some of Maine's brews. I tried the Bag Brown Ale, one of the favorites, a traditional English style ale that is slightly malty and lightly hopped. And I mean lightly! For starters, our party of 4 ordered the Super Nachos. I believe it is normally $10.95 but was charged $9.99, possibly because it was during happy hour. This dish was tiny in size, averaging about 20 round tortilla chips topped with spicy chili and red kidney beans. Complimented on the side were a container each of salsa, sour cream, and pickled jalapenos. We each only got to eat a few chips, before we realized it was gone. It could easily be eaten by 1 person or shared by 2 people. If you're a nachos fan, don't expect much, as it was a bit drab and boring without much going on. They didn't even top it with nacho cheese, which I consider a must for nachos. While looking through the menu, I saw that a lot of dishes had crispy pepperoni, so I figured that was one of their specialties that I had to try. For my entree, I ordered the Gucci ($11.25) which is a cheeseburger with strips of crispy spicy pepperoni on both sides of the bun!!! Served on the side was lettuce, a slice of fresh tomato, raw onions, and a bed of curly fries. This burger was delicious, well-marinaded and full of flavor. The bacon took it over the top, crispy and salty with a subtle spice. Mmmmm, it is definitely a burger worth getting and all of us agreed that it was quite juicy and tasty. The bed of curly fries were crispy and slightly potatoey inside, but they screamed for salt as they were unseasoned and bland alone. Table service was somewhat kind of lackluster. When we had asked about the drinks, not all of us were able to hear the waitress, so we had to ask her to repeat it twice. She responded uncaringly and as if we were a bit slow and brutish. But overall, The Bag & Kettle definitely serves some delicious burgers and cheap drinks. The quality of their appetizers and fries were subpar and could use improvement though. I found this place to be a good go-to stop for apres skiing. It's cozy and relaxing, but I wouldn't expect much beyond that.

The fries were too crunchy(suggesting they haven't changed the Fryolator oil often enough. Burger was good, service was fine, waitress was very rude practically kicked us out the door, gave our halfway through our meals, the last time I ate here it was fantastic! But this time not so much...

This place is the real deal. Right at the heart of the mountain, in the middle of everything but independently owned. The Bag is not your cookie cutter resort ski bar. Filled with character and the heart and soul of Sugarloaf. All nights at the Loaf start here. The locals brought us right into the fold and were super generous with their hospitality! If you ever have the pleasure of meeting the D's, you will understand. Shout out to Johnny and Alexis working the bar. They can make a mean Martini!

We are regular weekend warriors, driving 8 hours round trip every weekend from 617 to #theloaf . Every Saturday is Bag day. Bag burger or delicious pepperoni pizza with crispy strips of spicy pepperoni and loss of melted mozzarella goodness. Craft beer brewed on site are a plus. Would give 5 stars, but the hostesses this year haven't a clue as to how to manage a crowd. They are nice but need some training

I'm guilty of taking TheBag for granted. While The Rack gets more publicity and has the better live entertainment, the Bag delivers great burgers and pizza in a comfortable atmosphere. Their home brews are good for the most part, Trout Brook my favorite. The blueberry ale is not very good, however. Can't taste the blueberries and has an after taste. While they are a little late to the craft beer party in selling their beers, they actually were one of the first ones in Maine. They just didn't know it! Great happy hour prices and many of the bar staff have been there forever. If you ever want to get a flavor for "old days" at Sugarloaf, look for the picture of Uncle Al. Available on T- shirts too at one time. In any event, The Bag is a Loaf institution. Caution to people from away: get there before 1130 during Saturday ski season or not until after 115. Madness.

Probably the best ski pub I've ever been in... ever. I had a vegetarian veggie melt (it's the muffaletta minus the meat) and it completely rocked my world. I think the bread is probably cooked in the same oven as the pizza as it was so. incredibly. delicious. My girlfriend had the portabella sandwich, and reported that it was only meh. I saw chili (had great reviews) and pepperoni pizza (also had great reviews) at my table. The service was wonderful, and my waitress brought over a pitcher of water which is *so important* when a person is skiing. PROTIP: Get there before 11:30 or you'll be waiting for a table.

My parents own a house on the mountain and without fail every time I visit we always go to The Bag. We will either for apres skiing or lunch time. The burgers are amazing and I love how they brew there own beers. Everyone at the bar is super friendly. One time I had damaged my knee (brought down my ski patrol) and immediately went to The Bag by myself after First Aid (against their suggestion). Made some great friends and never felt by myself. Such a friendly and sociable crowd. I have never had a bad experience here. Great service, food and beer!

Stopped in here after a day of skiing for a beer and nachos. The beer was cold and reasonably priced for a ski resort. The service was friendly and we had our choice of tables. The atmosphere is bar like. The nachos are the reason for two stars. Cheap chips with a layer of squeeze cheese poured over the top, some salsa and sour cream also poured over top with a handful of jalapeños to top it off. I'd only go back here for beer.

It is the pub enthusiast (and everything that comes with it) in me that gives The Bag & Kettle five stars. This is a great pub. What makes a great pub, you may ask? I'll tell you... A great pub makes you feel like a local no matter where you come from because it is THE gathering spot. The Bag & Kettle is the local watering hole, and you can tell from the moment you sit down. People know each other here and aren't afraid to say hello. You feel comfortable enough to jump into the conversation or just sit back and enjoy your beer while you people-watch. The owner mingles, the waitstaff lingers to chat and the cook comes out to see how you like your sandwich. A great pub has equally great beer... on draft... preferably their own or local brew. The Bag & Kettle has a spread of eight "Mountain Brewed Ales from the Bag & Kettle Brewing Company," and there are brew tanks on site. I tried the Bag Brown Ale -- to complement my Bag Burger as the menu suggests -- and it really was the perfect pub brew with my meal. Strong enough to stand up to the heartiest food, but light enough to leave some room for that food in your stomach. A great pub has great food to even out all that drinking you're going to do. The Bag Burger was in Skiing magazine's top five worldwide grilled meat sandwiches in 2006, and don't think that accolade has expired. I always say that when a restaurant serves a burger with the minimal, classic toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion and maybe cheese), it is a good indicator that the burger is something great. You have to have a great burger if you're not putting anything on it to hide it. And that is the Bag Burger: juicy, flavorful, perfectly grilled, and served with the bare necessities. We had ordered the Southwest Chipotle/Pesto Dip prior to our meal and had a little left over, so I smeared some on my burger bun, and it was amazing. The dip is the perfect blend of pesto and smoky chipotle with a little bite. The housemade chips are the perfect vehicle to get that dip into your mouth. A great pub has a comfortable atmosphere where you can cozy up to a conversation about whatever piques your interest or relax to watch the game. The Bag & Kettle has your expected all-wood interior of a ski resort locale, but the booths and chairs are comfy enough to stay for a while. The flow is good, and you don't have to be subjected to a television if you don't want to be, which is a good option to have. If you're at Sugarloaf, get yourself to The Bag for lunch or dinner. Try the Bag Burger with the Bag Brown Ale (if that's your thing). You won't regret it.

To start, the Bag Burger is legendary...and with good reason. It is consistently great, juicy, has two pieces of cheese on it, great meat...and even the gluten free roll is really good. Their regular pizza is also great, with the pepperoni pizza awesome, and they have a Chicken Pizza that is also great though their GF pizza option is NOT very good. (Go to the Rack if you want GF pizza at Sugarloaf) Even their salads are good, particularly the Bag Monster...but remember this is Pub food...not the salad you would get in a high end restaurant, but it is good! Their apps are ok to good, and their drinks are reasonably priced. Service is usually good, especially if you get a seat at the bar...but can suffer at the tables. The main knock against the bag is that it is old and tired. People come because the food is good, but the place seriously needs a 100% renovation, more than the relatively minor painting and other recent updates. It is extremely old, tired and often does not smell great. A renovation that changes the layout, gets the bar so it faces the mountain and has some views and has better flow, but in general an appearance that makes it seem nothing has been replaced since 1969 is solely needed. The place is an institution, but one sorely in need of an overhaul. One star is lost due to tiredness, but the food is a 5 and service a 4.5. You have to eat here if you are at Sugarloaf!

We were traveling from Canada to Bar Harbor and this place shows up on my yelp search. So we said let's give it a try! To start with this place is located in a ski resort (off season). We ordered hamburgers and fries; however the burgers were not cooked. Their medium means rare. Thank goodness the fries tasted ok. The service was mediocre....especially if you are not a local. The best part was we sat outside and the weather was beautiful!

The Bag is what I would consider your typical pub food. They're in my list of 'ehhhh it's alright....'. I wouldn't wait in line for The Bag. But if Gepetto's is overflowing and my friends are already there for a few beers, then yeh I may grab a seat and order a burger. But all in all, The Bag is one of those places you can either take it or leave it. BTW - if you're thinking about Cheeseburger soup here, don't. It's just not the same as you know where....

Love this place. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Feels like a locals bar rt on the mountain.... not commercialized. The best brick oven pizza, and good cheeseburger soup. They brew their own beer. I enjoy pick pole and my husband likes brown bag. They sometimes have live music.

Best apres ski option at Sugarloaf. It is very cozy inside with plenty of room to relax with ski boots on. They brew their own beer which I loved. The wood fire oven turns out some yummy pizza. The burgers, soups, chili are all great options as well. Overall a great place to grab a beer after a long day on the slopes.

This place is amazing! Best burger, best Dixie chicken sandwich, and whatever the white sauce is that they give you with your meal is out-of-this-world. Long wait to eat because it's always so busy, but super friendly staff and delicious food make this a must-visit every time we go to sugarloaf.

I will say. Crowded. If you can get past that-better chill spot than gipettos. If not hit gipettos. Beers flow like wine. Après nation population you.

Where is the server? Where is the bar tender? Why do I have to ask for water 4 times? I hope the food is good because the service need soooo much work. Understaffed? Busy for a Wed night? Can I just get my burger???? Please???

Another good meal at the bag. We split up the pizzas and get a few different kids. Very laid back atmosphere. Beer is pretty good and so is the service.

Bag Burgers are a part of Sugarloaf legend that all meat-eaters must experience. They are one of the few remaining restaurants that actually cooks a burger the way your order it, rather than charring everything. Perfectly marinated, juicy, and flavorful. I also strongly recommend using the house sauce, you won't regret it. I only get a Bag Burger maybe once or twice a year, but I spend the other 363 days dreaming about them.

The Bag is the standard against which all other ski pubs are measured for me. I've been having lunches and light dinners here for over 30 years and have loved every one. I had the great pleasure of eating here twice last weekend and it was fantastic. Some things in this world should stay just the way they are, and The Bag & Kettle has. The menu covers most tastes ranging from excellent soups and sandwiches, to salads, to pizza, to heartier entrees, and the best burgers I have ever eaten anywhere. My personal favorite is the Gucci Burger which includes great beef cooked to order, cheese, and pepperoni (sliced length-wise), served on a soft sourdough roll. It comes with curly fries. Absolutely fantastic. They also serve their own beer selections which pair really well with the food. If you're at Sugarloaf you owe it to yourself to eat at The Bag. In my opinion, no other place compares for lunch while skiing.
