"Few things in life compare to a fresh, warm bagel with a good schmear. The Bagel Shop on East End Road puts out some of the very best bagels in the state. Their menu is small — fresh bagels, schmears, and a couple delicious bagel sandwiches. What more does the weary traveler need in the morning? Sometimes less is more." - Kris Farmen

Google
Fantastic experience! This bagel place is incredibly cozy and inviting, with everyone smiling and making you feel welcomed from the moment you step in. The bagels are exceptionally fresh, and the coffee is perfectly strong. I had the bagel and lox, and it was done just right, even topped with some fresh dill, which is a rare treat these days. Strong 5 stars! Highly recommend this gem!

Google
I was pleasantly surprised with this place! The atmosphere was busy and inviting, but not too loud. The food and coffee were great. We opted to make our own bagels, the pork roll addition was so good. Coffee was great! Would definitely recommend overall, friendly service.

Google
Bagels are great! Fresh and tasty. Many yummy sandwich combinations. We’ve enjoyed the specials and also custom built our own. The lox is outstanding and the hot pastrami has become a favorite. Very friendly and quick service. We’re always happy to have a stop here.

Eat your heart out NY. The best bagels are in Homer, AK. And you know the lox is second to none. God bless this amazing place and the amazing people who work here. Now…….on to my last bite of awesomeness

Google
Love me some bagels and this little roadside shop has the best in Homer! I have been here twice during my visit last week! All the options are great. I even had the raw “lox” on my bagel with cream cheese, red onion and capers and it was the bomb. Run by very nice people as well ! VictorB

Google
Highly recommend this restaurant!! The staff was friendly and helpful, some of the best customer service I've received in a long while. This is by far the best breakfast or lunch you can get in Homer- the chicken salad sandwich bagel was DIVINE and the coffee was amazing as well. Lots of vegetarian/pescatarian options, and although the line was long- the bagels were worth the wait and the price. 5 stars!

Google
I’m obsessed with these bagels. Must be the best in the state! We went multiple days and then took a bakers dozen home with us. The coffee, especially the lattes, are also delicious. Staff is always so welcoming and kind. Make sure you stop here if you are visiting Homer!

Where to start? First of all, I've never cared all that much for bagels. But the Bagel Shop has made a convert of me. Walking into this shop is always a ray of sunshine. The freshest local produce and fish, the friendliest staff, groovy art, chewy bagels, strong coffee, and out of this world biscuits and gravy make this worth the drive 'out east end' every chance you get. Any "sandwich" can be a salad. The chicken Caesar (pic) is fantastic. For sandwiches, I recommend the muffaletta, the nutty goat, and anything with lox.

Yelp
One of only two places we liked so much we had to go back on our 4 day trip. So happy to have made it and gotten o check this place out. Staff was amazing all friendly and knowledgeable! The Bagels are amazing here and just what we needed. We got sandwiches because you should! Also make sure to get a cookie or 5. Mainly because you won't want to share and wow are they good!!

Yelp
We tried this place twice when we were visiting Homer from Anchorage. There are a shortage of bagels in Alaska! These are boiled NY style bagels. The first time we went was in the afternoon kind of later and they had about 4 flavors. We just wanted to try so we got the smoked salmon shmear on an onion bagel. The bagel had huge pieces of dried onion all over the top, it was good. The smoked salmon cream cheese spread was very good as well. Had capers in it which were ok. Also got a chocolate chip cookie which was delicious too. Second time we came it was around 8:30 in the morning and they had more flavors, and kept putting them out while we were standing there waiting for our order. So if they dont have the flavor you want it may be coming. This time I got the bacon egg and cheese on a salt bagel. The salt were huge chunks of salt, not finely sprinkled like I excpected. I didn't notice that their bacon is "peppered" it was wayyy way too peppered. I couldn't even eat it. Their menu is kind of scattered and hard to read too. I think I was overcharged the second time we came because I paid $30 for two bagels (11 each) and a chocolate chip cookie. Doesn't add up. I would come for the chocolate chip cookie and the schmears. Not their lunch or breakfast sandwiches :(

Yelp
The Bagel Shop is a MUST visit if you're in Homer. It has been posited that you can't get good New York Style bagels here in Alaska. Sorry, i disagree. The Bagel Shop is an unassuming, deceptively urbane looking storefront, in an industrial area of town, it's certainly not on the main drag of Homer, but that does not affect how busy it gets. Inside the entryway, you'll order your bagel, from the chalkboard with the choices of what's available. There are cold drinks in a chiller, if you desire, or get coffee or tea if that's your preference. The menu is quite extensive, from what looks to be such a tiny eatery, but don't be fooled - tables are around the back. You can get bagels, soups, salads, a variety of drinks. My first few times here, we were always getting bagels for on the road, and i didn't even know you could eat inside. I always got the Everything Bagel with the Holy Trinity Schmear (jalapeño, garlic, anchovy, blended masterfully with cream cheese) and it is superb, i tell you that right now. If you love garlic, you'll love this schmear. Anyway, so last time we were in Homer, we decided to eat inside, and i thought I'd try the "Avocado Toast" and have a nice cuppa tea (I'm British ok, don't roll your eyes at me like that!) So i got an Everything Bagel, with the avocado topping. He ordered the usual I think he got an onion bagel with Holy Trinity schmear. I was presented with such an artistic looking bagel. And i will stand here right now, and claim that 100% they cook THE best fried egg in ALaska, because they don't flip it like an over easy egg, so it's not brown on top. They either do what british people do, and flip hot grease over the top of the he egg, so the whole thing stays white, and the top of the yolk has an opaque white skin, OR they put a cover over the egg, and the steam cooks it. Either way, it cooks a perfect fried egg, because sunny side up - I've had way too many snotty, sunny side up eggs to ever trust ordering one. Ad i get an over easy egg, because i just can't get an English-style fried egg here in ALaska, except for now. THIS IS THE PERFECT FRIED EGG RIGHT HERE. The yolk is a perfectly runny sauce to drape unctuously over your bagel, the avocados are bright green and fresh. There's a seasoning on top of this egg that elevates it to magical heights. It's got sesame seeds in, and something green. No idea but let me take some home please? Micro greens on top and it's just delightful. And 2 days ago, it wasn't on the menu, my heart sank! So i asked her. She said oh sure, i can make that for you! Would you like bacon? Would i like bacon? Indeed i would like more deliciousness added onto an already stupendous meal. And it was AMAZING. It's now my go to, as I'm a creature of habit, as much as it's possible to have a go-to, in a place you only go to, once or twice a year. Superb. The best! And ALWAYS service with multiple smiles. As someone said to me about the Bagel Shop, "if you live in Anchorage, The Bagel Shop is well worth a *turn and burn*" and i wholeheartedly agree.

Claire M.

Yelp
Heavy on the lox, which is great. Quick and kind service. 3/5 stars because the bagel was pretty doughy and not toasted enough .. but better than expected for being so far up north and away from the great bagels of the east coast..

Nathan B.

Yelp
Spoiler alert (kinda): find Hokusai and read the words for a wholesome surprise and a good chuckle. =] This place is packed, but efficient! It's like everyone understands that a line is part of the experience and they're super kind about it. And since I was standing, I had time to look at the back kitchen area which was spotless and wonderfully organized. And I'm happy to report the bagel shop is every bit as good as it was a year ago. The coffee is amazing and the separate barista means the drinks are done quickly and perfectly! The Cafe Saigon was not only delicious but came in a beautiful piece of pottery. The local art on display was intriguing, unique and displayed with an attention to detail. Easy QR code payment. On display until October.

Yelp
A bit hetic on weekend mornings but well worth the wait. The best bagels in Alaska ( in my humble opinion) Get a bagel sandwich which is more than large enough for two meals. Just stop in, you won't regret it.

Greg S.

Yelp
The bomb for bagels. Sockeye salmon bagels. Neat stop for breakfast here in Homer. The taste was great. Must stop and extra for lunch left over.

Alana K.

Yelp
Don't be intimidated by the full parking lot and long line. These guys move quickly and will still manage to serve you with a smile. I ordered the breakfast sandwich (egg and cheese) on a sesame bagel with artichoke spinach feta schmear. It was a good choice that turned out to be my breakfast and my lunch. They also make great espresso. The maple cortado was lovely. Food and drinks came out quickly. A great spot.

Becky W.

Yelp
Cozy place with very welcoming staff. Mexican mocha was delicious. Bagel breakfast sandwiches - delicious. Highly recommend!

Gina G.

Yelp
The Bagel Shop is as good as the best bagel shops in NYC! Doesn't get any better than this. Cute ambience, great tunes, excellent coffee, and of course the best bagels. We'll come back tomorrow I would like to try the Lix and Bagel.

Gina C.

Yelp
You have to get into this place early! We had the salmon bagel and a delicious salad! This place is the bomb, and all the people were very welcoming and friendly.

Viola Ellen H.

Yelp
We loved this bagel shop in Homer. We rented a place in the area so we thought we would try it. The bagels and coffee were amazing and the customer service was outstanding. We plan to go to this place every day while in Homer.

Vanessa

Yelp
Delicious bagels! Perfect thing for a light morning breakfast. Coffee tastes amazing also. Will be my new go to here.

Hannah W.

Yelp
They're amazing! I tried them for the first time on a recent trip to Homer and had to stop by twice!

Kristi N.

Yelp
Got the Wasabi Lox special (just a bagel & lox but w seasame-wasabi schmear). Lox was divine. Prob one of the best bagel concoctions I've ever had. Also got the white rose coffee (white choc w steamed milk, 2 shots of espresso, and rose syrup). The rose syrup goes so well w the white chocolate. 100/10 would come back. So freaking delish

Megan S.

Yelp
5 stars for bagel quality. If you call yourself The Bagel Shop, you better get your namesake right - and they do. The location is a little strange though. It was a beautiful morning and we would've wanted to sit outside, but really the only option is a funny table in front of the main door with the view of the parking lot. The interior isn't expansive but welcoming in the cozy coffee shop kind of way. Overall, would def recommend and just like other reviewers have said, the Salt bagel is where it's at.

Tracie D.

Yelp
I had the bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel. Possibly, the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had!

Laura D.

Yelp
Incredible bagels. I'm partial to the everything bagel with the holy trinity shmear, but don't sleep on a salt with a sweet shmear either!

Rick D.

Yelp
I love seeing that they are open only by to drive up and see they are closed with no notice as to why. Nice business model with clear communication. Apparently locals support the fly by the seat of your feelings style shops like this. Too bad it use to be a good place. I guess I'll just go to the other options when I'm in Homer from now on

Tanner R.

Yelp
The bagels here were very good. Bummed they didn't have any sort of onion and chive cream cheese to go with the bagels, but the garlic smear they had was pretty good too. The bagel sandwich I got was also good. Nothing spectacular, but definitely good.

Caitlin S.

Yelp
The bagel shop has the best bagels in town! There options for smears for the bagels are beyond delicious . Easily one of the best food shops in homer, and they have some great costumer service. definitely check them out, it's worth it!!!

Tristan B.

Yelp
Wonderfully friendly staff, cute space, and reasonably priced tasty bagels. What more could you ask for? Will definitely be back next time I'm in Homer.

Michael K.

Yelp
Real bagels! Nice and chewy. Friendly staff. Line moves quickly. I'm succinct. Don't like long reviews. But min characters required.

Lisa Y.

Yelp
Yum yum yum. I'm from Los Angeles where bagels are the best - maybe second only to NY. But The Bagel Shop was amazing. So fresh and the cream cheese was delish! Only complaint was the Mexican mocha was made too spicy. I could not even drink it and edged up just leaving it behind.

Russell G.

Yelp
Best bagels in Alaska hand down. Worth a stop when I'm homer. Sandwiches are great, staff is always super nice. Love this place.

Katherine S.

Yelp
Really wanted to give it a 4/5 but have to give it a 3 because of two major things. 1) they got my order slightly wrong 2) there was a giant hair stuck to my schmear on my bagel. I ordered the spicy lox bagel but they didn't put the spicy schmear on it, which wasn't really a big deal, but is part of why I'm giving it a lower review. They put A LOT of lox on it, which was really awesome and good and I honestly thought the bagel was delicious until I got a giant hair stuck in my mouth, that wasn't mine. Which makes sense, because I noticed that they don't wear hairnets or anything, they just wear bandanas to pull their hair back. Anyway, it's affordable and good, just check your bagel for hair before you eat it.

Gena R.

Yelp
Nothing bad to say!! I got the bagel with lox and I was so satisfied. They did not skimp on anything.

Jin C.

Yelp
After just trying their smoked salmon, dill, caper and cream cheese topped bagel once, I have deemed this shop the be a mandatory stopover for every Homer itinerary. Having lived in Alaska my whole life, I had yet to experience an authentic, boiled bagel up until now. When I first found out about The Bagel Shop, I was ecstatic. My feeble mind was not prepared for just how amazing their products would be. The bagel itself was cooked perfectly with a crisp, bubbly exterior. Their smoked salmon melted in my mouth like butter. I'm extremely happy there's a place in Alaska that sells bagels of this caliber. It's a little bittersweet though in that I'd have to drive 4 hours each way in order to procure said bagels. Are they worth it? I'm leaning towards definitely.

Liz B.

Yelp
Easily my favorite food spot in Homer! Great customer service, delicious bagels & rotating vegan schmear options!

Justine D.

Yelp
We stayed in homer for 3 days total and came here twice! Get the lox bagel. Just do it. It is worth every penny. So good! Also the salt bagel by itself with plain cream cheese is to die for! Best bagel I've ever had. 2nd day I had the breakfast bagel with egg cheese and bacon outta bounds! The cafe Saigon is the most rich and flavorful cup of coffee I've ever had, highly recommended!!!!

Mike R.

Yelp
Its hard to imagine that you can find a REAL NY style bagel at the end of the road in Alaska. They have a wide selection of bagels and and prepared bagels with ______. The salmon lox and cream cheese with red onions, dill and capers was loaded and full of flavors This place is the real thing!!!.

Sandra V.

Yelp
Amazing customer service and even better bagels. Smoked Amon Schmear is to die for. Cute shop too

Phoebe C.

Yelp
This is one spot that my husband and I come to regularly. We usually just get a half dozen bagels to take home. We like to get the everything, garlic, jalapeño or cheese. Every bagel we have had is delicious. The bagels have a good amount of chew to them but aren't overly chewy. The toppings are never over powering and the cream cheeses they offer are definitely overpriced but super delicious. I will not be getting the cream cheeses regularly but I definitely would love to try one of there sandwiches.

Jordan R.

Yelp
BEST BAGEL IN ALASKA. So I say this with some back ground. I've eaten bagels across the USA. Some(few) very good, some ( many) very bad, so I feel very strongly about the bagel My history with my perfect bagel goes back to high school in boise Idaho. There was a shop in the back entrance of the YWCA on 8& Washington it was open morning till ?2pm. I think. So we would all rush over during break and lunch to Harry those ladies. Who made my experience so great, it was a, towering boiled then baked with just enough alkaline crust to keep it chewy until toasting bagel . The shmear was made in house and always fresh. The best part it was $1.50. So "The Bagel Shop" in homer is very close to this exeperience. Although it's not in the back of the Y nor is it a 1.50. It has the other important features. The taste. And the community while I sat here for two mornings it was like the local equalivant to Cheers. The wonderful bubbly woman behind the counter welcomed many of the locals by name, remembering there order and chatting about Homer things. The gentleman in the kitchen was equally responsive to the crowd. And I really enjoyed watching listening and desiring a new morning to get another bagel . Many other things on the menu. But mostly bagel centric. Coffee barista was knowledgeable and fast. And a bagel shmear with drip coffee was 5.50$. So I guess that's in line with my 1990 HS bagel Costs. I WILL be back Thank you bagel shop for renewing my trust in the bagel community that it's not all Einstein . H

Andrew M.

Yelp
Friendly people, good product! When are used to bagels from big cities You can have a bit of a snobby attitude when it comes to this niche food. The bagel shop hit it on the head. Eat 'em fresh! The Homer version of lox and bagels was different but very tasty!

Tom P.

Yelp
Great coffee, bagels, sandwiches and soup at a reasonable price. A good sign when a lot of locals frequent this place. Hungarian mushroom soup was very good. Fast service with a smile, our favorite place in Homer.

Colman W.

Yelp
The bagel shop is absolute MONEY. The bagels are excellent on their own but the sandwiches really set it off. The flavors in the sandwiches are layered and thoughtful. They often compliment savory with sweetness and they do it so well. Been coming here since they first opened it seems and I've only ever thought "wow! this is so yummy!". They also have solid coffee.

Katie R.

Yelp
Best bagels around! I love how they do not put sugar in their bagels. Perfectly crisp, not too dense, delicious smears, fresh and high quality ingredients! Best bagels in Alaska!

Karen K.

Yelp
We have been in Homer 6 days and have been there twice. The sandwiches are delicious!!!!!!! I had the vegan both times and couldn't get enough of it. I am contimaplating going back for another one before we leave.

Raymond G.

Yelp
Generally if a business doesn't support people's rights I don't like to support them. But I was with a group that was excited to have bagels so I figure I'd give it a try. First thing you see when you walk in are all the hand drawn menus that's hang around the counter and on the wall. The menu is simple to understand and pretty well descriptive. On the left side of the counter is a board describing the bagel shop and their values. They claim to makes their bagels fresh daily and use the freshest for their dishes. The service was awesome. We had an energetic lady that took our order and was very patient with us as we decided what to get. This place is pretty pricy imo which I wouldn't be to concerned about if the value of the food met with the price. I got the spicy lox and my partner got the bacon egg and cheese breakfast bagel. I love lox's and will usually pay extra to get lox's with my meal. Their sandwich didn't really have that salmon flavor I was hoping for. I got it in an everything bagel which was a bit dry for me. Having some of the bacon egg and cheese bagel which is a standard for most bagel places I felt it was off par. Finally I did get to try one of there coffee drinks which was very tasty. All in all I enjoyed my meal however the price point did not match up with my expectations. Three star experience minus one star for my first stamens.

Amber D.

Yelp
Disappointed that the hours and updating their services. Every site said they are open when they really aren't. I would suggest updating your information, and even with the "call for order" the phone number is not a working number.

Tyler W.

Yelp
if you want the best bagel you will ever eat, go to the bagel shop! they have so many options for bagels & schmear and their menu has so many wonderful and unique options (they have great vegan options as well!). the prices are very great (especially for homer) & the ingredients are always fresh and delicious. not only is the food wonderful but the staff are so friendly and enjoyable. they are always so sweet and attentive & make you feel comfortable and welcome the second you step foot in the door. the bagel shop is an essential homer restraunt essential, you haven't lived until you've tried the bagel shop! my personal favorite bagel is the breakfast (egg & cheese) w/ avocado on a sesame seed bagel...simple but exceptional.

Jamie O.

Yelp
Lots of bagels and bagel sandwiches. Laid back atmosphere. Pretty quick service. We had a couple breakfast sandwiches. I was impressed by the actual bacon in my sandwich (not the fake bacon you come to expect from some places such as this). The bagels were delicious! The sandwich was filling and a perfect breakfast. They had a coffee bar, with lots of options (although we didn't have any beverages here). We were a little off put by the sticker on the door as we walked in... "no guns." Um, this is Alaska.... Definitely wasn't comfortable with this business attempting to take away our Second Ammendment rights.

Nancy I.

Yelp
Delicious bagels. We had two bagel sandwiches, the bahn mi and the BLT. Both very satisfying and generous with the ingredients. Very fast and gracious service too. Highly recommended. Because of its location, it looks like mostly locals come. Worth the side trip from the Spit or downtown. This restaurant needs to be listed as such, not just in the bagel category.

Tracey K.

Yelp
Great variety of bagel sandwiches. The one I had was a BLT with a fried egg on a bagel with chipotle bacon schmear and was delicious. Be aware the breakfast sandwiches are not served all day. My husband had a simpler order with just a toasted bagel and spread, which was less impressive but still tasty. I don't think the bagels are as amazing if you eat them only with cream cheese but you can't go wrong with one of their sandwich combinations. The fillings (in my case, bacon and other greens) are generous and of good quality. My friend's smoked salmon and avocado also was enjoyable. Wifi is available.

Diane G.

Yelp
Our party of 5 plus a toddler all had different bagel and schmears or sandwiches and all were great! Would have gone again had we not run out of time and that says a lot when you're on vacation with lots of choices.

Adam B.

Yelp
This is the best place for bagels in the state of Alaska. I love the sandwich options and the different shmears are worth checking out. The lox is fresh, if you're into that. Definitely worth a stop.

Nathaniel H.

Yelp
Best nova bagel that I've ever had! Cool place, friendly staff. Closed on Mondays!

S C.

Yelp
The pastrami bagel sandwich (on onion bagel) was truly amazing. Caramelized onions, great flavor to the meat, not too salty. I wish I lived in Homer so I could go all the time. I've had the salmon open faced sandwich too- which was good, but no match for the pastrami. Clean shop, friendly staff.
