Where to Find Great Bagels in Boston and Beyond

"Located at the Street in Chestnut Hill, the Bagel Table features OMG! Bagels, a local company that was the first pop-up at the Street. The Bagel Table serves OMG’s New York-style bagels with various spreads. It also offers a few “best of Rosie’s” treats, such as rugelach and thumbprint cookies, an homage to Rosie’s Bakery, which was the longtime occupant of the space before the Bagel Table opened." - Valerie Li Stack, Dana Hatic

Google
Decent bagel shop in Chestnut Hill. The bagels were fresh and not overly heavy. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese on a poppy bagel and it was pretty good. This is in the Chestnut Hill plaza area so there is a ton of parking.

Jonathan Cohen

Google
Place was in need of a Reno. I found it weird that their bagels came out of a plastic retail bag. I got a bacon egg and cheese on a toasted jalapeno bagel. It was decent. Coffee was watery.

Google
Nice breakfast place great prices especially for chestnut hill there’s also parking and an entrance in the back bacon egg and cheese n onion bagel was great

I have had the pleasure of buying breakfast coffee etc for the past three days at The. Bagel Table. They are very friendly and have great coffee and teas and other beverages incluing Dr. Browns sodas andyummy bagels and bakery. You will love them plus its not Starbucks! Give them a try you won't be dissapointed. I had a special request for a side sasugae patty and they handled it expertly.

Google
The only thing I would’ve changed was when listing avocado on their TABL, they should’ve noted it was more like guac, not fresh avocado. Totally bummed me out. And very small few pieces of bacon. Too expensive for what it was. Great staff though and good bagels. Wouldn’t get this particular sandwich again.

Best bagel I've ever had! Most places give you the bagel and a tiny Philadelphia cream cheese packet that you have to sparingly put on. Here, they put the cream cheese on for you thickly and it is so creamy. The bagel is the perfect temperature, soft on the inside, and toasted on the outside. Loved the taste of the jalepeno. There is a cupcake place near the grocery store across the street and these are better. I got the red velvet and it was so soft and moist. The chocolate croissant puts Starbucks and Au Bon Pain to shame. It was fresh right out of the oven. The croissant was soft and the chocolate was just right. Not to creamy and not dark. The coffee tasted like Starbucks coffee. I got the House and added cream and sugar. The atmosphere was relaxing and felt like a French cafe. I would have preferred soft chairs and maybe comfy seats like they have at most Starbucks. I liked the jazzy music. The plants tied the place together. But I could imagine it would be noisy when the place is full. No one was there at 7:00 am, so I had the place to myself. The prices are high, but you are getting a premium product, so I think it is worth at its price point. Open internet would be nice. They have a secured one. Maybe offer the password or something. Free internet is standard at Starbucks, so it would be a great improvement. The bakers were so sweet and accommoding. Checkout is an electronic device that was easy to use and would send a receipt to your phone. Do note that there is a tip offered at checkout when you pay. That should really be an option when you finish like Starbucks has. Overall, I fell in love with this place. I will definitely return when I'm here.

Google
Excellent bagels and cream cheese. Bought some at the Farmer’s market at Newton North. 👍. Will visit your store over in the “Rosie’s” plaza in Chestnut Hill. Will take a picture BEFORE I eat it next time. Good for turkey sandwiches as well.

Charlie Talisse

Google
We used to be big fans of this location. Unfortunately it seems like they made the decision to switch from real eggs to the fake frozen egg “patties” on their sandwiches. A very disappointing choice which I think plummets the overall experience and taste of the sandwich. The bagels themselves are still good! L

Yelp
Good, reliable spot for a bagel. The bagels were good- tasted relatively fresh. Exactly what I would expect from a normal bagel place. The cream cheese was thick and yummy. Four stars just because it wasn't... great? It was really average. Good location, though.
google avatar

Yelp
I love bagels and this place didn't dissapoint! The price is on the pricier side for what it was, but for a quick bite that is keeps you full for a bit I think it was solid. They gave a good amount of smoked salmon and the ratio was pretty good for cream cheese. The bread itself I wish it was a bit more chewy/warm. The employees are friendly and quick in making the food! The place itself is also very cute for a quick bite during work hours if you're nearby. There are a couple of window seats, outdoor seats, and tables inside! I would come again to try other things on the menu.

Yelp
Talk about spreading disappointment, not cream cheese. My wife came in to pick up some quick breakfast, but unfortunately she experienced terrible customer service. The person taking her order was on her phone and clearly not interested in being there. While my wife was placing her order, she decided to make a change and for some reason the employee got annoyed. After my wife paid, the employee said they could do a different order instead even though that wasn't what my wife asked and paid for. I understand you may hate your job, but there's no need to pass that along to everyone else in the store. TL;DR rude service and there are much better options around so don't waste your time and money here

Yelp
The Bagel Table works hard to appear like a small local bakery that specializes in, well, bagels. I would compare it to a restaurant at an airport. Overpriced, low quality and uninventive. I was surprised to be handed pre-bagged bagels ($9 for 6) when I asked for half a dozen and later realized that they do not make their own bagels. You will get better quality buying coffee and bagels next door at Star Market.

Robbie S.

Yelp
Best bagels in Boston, and a down to earth, fun staff! I've already been back multiple times.
google avatar

Adam F.

Yelp
Nothing terribly special. Breakfast sandwiches do not have customization for eggs. Some seating available, but not a ton. Good in a pinch
google avatar

Willie R.

Yelp
I popped in here to grab a bite after swinging through The Container Store nearby. The young woman at the register was friendly, even when she informed me that they were out of ciabatta (sad). So I got the chicken salad sandwich on multigrain bread. The chicken salad was perfectly fine. It was fairly standard--no grapes or anything in it. What I actually liked most was the crunchy multigrain bread, which had the perfect consistency. This was a chill stop for a Saturday afternoon.

Yelp
It's good enough if you're in a pinch but that's about it. You would think a place called "The Bagel Table" would you know make bagels... they don't. Take a peak behind the counter and you will notice a significant bags of pre purchased bagels. They don't even make their own mediocre bagels, they buy them from some other business that's putting who knows what into it. Such a shame, bagels are pretty low on the baking difficulty scale. Coffee is crap, beans are over extracted and bitter. If you want halfway decent coffee go down a few doors to the coffee shop chain. Service is mediocre, total hit or miss and never outstanding or memorable. Its usually cold and lacks any smiles or chipper. The prices are also pretty high, like we'll high enough to expect a fresh baked bagel made there and not bought and resold to you from some central bakery who knows where. Really can't get over that.

Scott V.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot for bagels. They are always fresh and delicious. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Generally, we love the bagel table! However, we have only been to the one in Natick until today. We took a chance and went to the Chestnut Hill location. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed not only was this election poor, the restaurant was filthy. Beware the ceiling is disgusting and you have a perfect view of it from your table, did you choose to dine in.
google avatar

Janet F.

Yelp
Nope. I thought the price for two bagels with cream cheese and two coffees was high at over $16 but everything has gone up lately so I didn't think about it much and added a tip taking me to $20. Sure enough realized the woman was making two lattes. I said I'm sorry but I wanted two coffees. She said no you didn't, you said latte. I said I don't drink lattes so you misunderstood me. And I said so I was also overcharged then. She just looked at me with an attitude, gave me the two coffees, and says here you can keep one latte? You mean the one I paid for that I didn't want and won't drink? Thanks? I gave it to a stranger. After all that, bagel wasn't even that good--gummy with very little cream cheese. I hate to smear (no pun) a small business but don't waste your time. Ruder than rude.
google avatar

Yelp
Decent bagels but not special. They're a little sweet for my family's taste. They're nice and doughy and not overly toasted. The cream cheese is good but only a couple of options. The egg and cheese sandwich options seem like decent prices but have only thin egg and very thin bacon slices. The online/app ordering interface is lacking. A lot of folks call in or you can wait in line a fairly long time to get a smear. It's a decent bagel but not enough time differentiate itself from the middle of the pack.
google avatar

Enid R.

Yelp
So very disappointed. If your business name has the name of the item that you are selling, then it better be outstanding. Instead I got a hard as a rock (tasted like day old bagel). I don't get my bagels toasted if they are fresh and especially if it is a bagel joint. If you don't know what a good fresh bagel tastes like then you probably won't be disappointed. I would have been better off at Dunkin's.

Matthew D.

Yelp
Unfortunately, their "double" bacon BLT has 3 slices of somewhat anemic bacon. Bagel was tasty.

Yelp
This restaurant is super cute and great for a quick grab and go, or a few small seating areas for a small party of 2-3 people. A large selection of bagels and sandwiches to choose from. Prices are a little on the pricey side, especially for the quality. I was in the store ordering bagels and they were refilling the bagels from brown bags they were bringing from the back. Then as I glanced over at the bakery section the ladies were unwrapping store bought cookies and neatly placing them in the clear glass. Not a problem, but if you are going to do this be discreet. They had fooled me, that this was an actual bakery/bagel shop until I saw the behind the scenes in front of me, really lost my interest here, bummer. The bagels are just okay, not bad or the best you have ever had, just down the middle.

Erika G.

Yelp
I was really hoping to like this place because I saw on their website they advertise that their bagels are crunchy on the outside and doughy on the inside (like Rosenfelds' always are.) But they weren't. Maybe when they were first baked they were, but I'm pretty sure all their bagels that they sell are day-old. Whereas at Rosenfeld's, you get them right out of the oven, hot. I got an egg and cheese and the egg was very thin. I hate giving small businesses, bad reviews, but maybe they could read this (and other reviews) and start realizing that they should make their bagels fresh before selling them.

Yelp
Went to the new location on Needham Street next to TJ Maxx in Newton. I was happy to see a new business someplace that's sat empty for a long time even before covid and wanted to support this new establishment. I ordered bagels to go yesterday to take home to my family for breakfast today. When I opened the bag this morning, the bagels weren't even in a plastic bag and were already stale unfortunately. I won't be a returning customer.

Cricket L.

Yelp
What kind of bagel shop doesn't make their own bagels? This one! I saw them taking them out of plastic bags and putting them into the bagel bins. Bagels are decent but not fresh
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
I go to The Bagel Table pretty frequently. The service is always friendly, the coffee is always hot. The bagels and cream cheeses seem to go together well, always good. I've never had any of their more elaborate sandwiches, so I can only assume they are good too.

Yelp
I live close-by and finally checked this place out last weekend because my preference--Bruegger's--is too far and always has 90 people in line. My sausage/egg/cheese bagel-wich was pretty good. So, this morning, I risked being late to because hey...when you need a bagel, ya need a bagel. The ine was super long and it took a long time because unfortunately, only two people were working. I didn't include service in the rating thought because it's not their fault that they were understaffed. But the bagel????? UGH. It literally tasted like a (not-so-fresh) Thomas's Bagel that you buy at any grocery store. It was supposed to be sesame bagel but there was not a hint of sesame flavor to be found. The processed egg was lukewarm, as was the sausage, and the bland bagel definitely was not toasted as requested. I didn't expect a top notch latte but, just like the bagel, the espresso tasted old...like someone took some already-made espresso and warmed it up in the microwave. Apparently their other sweets are good but the display case only had 3 things in it this morning so that wasn't an option really. It was definitely a waste of my hard-earned $10.06
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
This was a pretty good place to stop for a late breakfast before heading to do some shopping, or after an appointment in the area. I've had a sausage, egg, and cheese on a sesame bagel and a cinnamon raisin bagel with plain cream cheese. It wasn't the best ever, but it fit the need. It's a small space but there are a few chairs by the window, which is nice. I was a little disappointed to learn they don't have decaf coffee but that's okay. (visited 7/3/21 and 6/28/22)

Yelp
This place is so cute, I love love love the decor! I'm sure pre covid this would be a cute little spot to hang out and sip some coffee :) I got an Asiago bagel with sausage egg and cheese. Such an amazing bagel, so soft and fluffy, and it was gone before I got a chance to take a pic of it haha. Such a great place to stop by on my drive home from the city in the am
google avatar

Yelp
I came here because my usual place was closed for the holidays. I should have know better once I walked into a boutique looking place. I said to myself it's Chestnut Hill very demanding crowd for a good bagel, can't be bad. Dollar fifty a bagel? not bad considering location and decor. After a weird interaction with the cashier where he dropped a "You're pushing it" and a "God Damn" over his mediocre morning and faulty register I headed home. I got a bad vibe while walking to my car when I squeezed the bag and didn't get that soft warm fresh bagel feel. Here we go! I get home cut my bagel and tell my wife this bagel is old. maybe not old, but definitely was not made this morning frozen perhaps? crumbly and somewhat stiff breaking apart at the slightest pull. I toasted it put some of their cream cheese and ate it with no mmm mmm satisfaction. I really wanted to like this product since my good friend recommended it but sadly was not impressed.
google avatar

Robo T.

Yelp
Very good cinnamon raisin bagel - got one toasted with a shmear. If you like crunchy toast, you may want to have them toast it twice. If you prefer a slight crunch with a warm bread vibe like I do, this is perfect.
google avatar

Carrie B.

Yelp
Bagels from a plastic bag and a rude staff with no sense of urgency. You can do better anywhere else.
google avatar

dan w.

Yelp
They pulled my bagel out of a plastic bag. I asked the girl where the bagels are made and she said "some factory near here, but comes in fresh every day." Bagel was NOT a New York bagel. Is it so hard to do? Maybe it is. Needs to be CHEWY on the inside. They were out of my favorite bagel so I took second choice. Not a bad bagel and fresh, but hardly a bagel "experience". (They should at least not show the plastic bag. That was a turn off.)
google avatar

John Y.

Yelp
Over price frozen bagel and pre made eggs. I'd rather go the dunkin donuts for the same crap. And better coffee
google avatar

Thomas A.

Yelp
Came here to meet my girlfriend for lunch. Place is small and mainly a take out place but it does have some tables in the front. Pastrami lunch sandwich is yummy but messy. They just cut up the meat and put it in between 2 pieces of bread and sliced it but didn't really clean it up to maintain its structure. It fell apart and i had to eat it with a fork. My gf's lox bagel sandwich was yummy. The bagels here are decent. Not the worst nor the best.
google avatar

Abby B.

Yelp
Love their bagels, but they don't make them. They are supplied by OMG! Bagels in Framingham. I was ecstatic when they opened a new location in Newton Upper Falls. Walked in at noon on Saturday and they were sold out. The last customer was just in front of me. The store closes at 1:30pm. Running out of your inventory 1.5 hours before you close (on the weekend no less) was disappointing. Regardless, I got up early the next day to make sure that I would have my pick. I arrived at 7:15am (according to google the stores open at 7am). Of course when I got there, the location states that it opens at 8am. This is completely unacceptable. What reputable bagel/breakfast place opens this late? Most breakfast places are open by 6/6:30am. I ended up going a little further down highland avenue to cafe fresh in Needham. They know how to make a good bagel, maintain their inventory, and were open. The line was almost out the door! It's no wonder that they have been in business for years. Their bagels were delicious and I ended up buying a dozen!
google avatar

Mb L.

Yelp
While their Chelsea bagel is delicious, I ordered an iced decaf coffee with cream and two pumps of syrup. The girl that took the order asked me three times. She delivered it with no cream and based on the fact that I'm still awake (I ordered it at 10:15 AM), I'd say I didn't get decaf!! It is now 2:09 AM... not sleeping! this does NOT make me all warm and fuzzy!
google avatar

Jacob G.

Yelp
The bagels are weirdly sweet? Like I know people sometimes say American breads are sweeter than in other countries but these are like noticeably sweet no matter what type of bagel you get (savory ones included)- every couple months I think "oh they're close by I'll just get a breakfast sandwich" and end up eating an egg and cheese on what tastes like desert bread and remember why I stopped going there. Also, I've twice gotten ice tea there that tasted moldy sooooo yeah
google avatar

Adam P.

Yelp
We stopped into the Bagle Table by chance as we were about to take a long drive, and wanted something quick for breakfast. The waitstaff was very kind, but there was no sense of urgency whatsoever here. It was early morning, and there were only one or two other customers-we still waited about 10 minutes for our order due to one person preparing food. That being said, their case filled with countless kinds of bagels and pastries is definitely eye catching, and sure to get you hungry. I got the bacon, egg, and cheese on a honey grain bagel. I asked for the bagel to be toasted well done, and it unfortunately was not, but the sandwich was delicious nonetheless. I like my bagels on the chewier side, and their bagels are definitely more bread-like than your typical NY bagel. My biggest peeve here was the portion size of what was inside the sandwich. The egg and meat was very thin, and I so wish I had doubled it because it left us a bit hungry! If I ever get back in the doors, that'll be the key.

Bernard S.

Yelp
We went in to get fresh bagels, but they were stale and probably a day old. Recommend you go somewhere else.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Also they never answer the phone. Sometimes when I'm desperate enough to get a bagel here I'll try to call ahead so I can pick up before work, but I usually have to call twice if they pick up at all. I get it when it's busy, but I stood in the store and watched them just ignore it when there were no other customers.
google avatar

Jack F.

Yelp
I've had mixed opinions on this place for a bit now. I find myself returning here because it is in a very convenient location for me, but I've never fell in love with their food. It's pretty clear most of the food is not made in house, which can be fine, but the bagels aren't much better than those you get at the grocery store. It's definitely on the higher price end, considering it's location, but I don't think the quality makes up for the cost. I'd stop here if you were in the area, and wanted a quick breakfast sandwich and coffee.
google avatar

Rain B.

Yelp
CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE! I ordered and paid for a bagel with cream cheese and bacon this morning and got a bagel with just cream cheese once I got to work and opened my order (yuck). Kind of disappointing considering this was my first time ordering from this place. will I be reimbursed? probably not not, but maybe I can go there and communicate this miss in-person when I'm not working.
google avatar

Masha S.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this place. Never tried the other locations but the one on Boylston Street was solid. We made a video about our experience :) https://youtu.be/p7Ea7gUV0ok
google avatar

P H.

Yelp
The bagels are just ok. Not NY style. They also don't offer a nondairy milk for coffee.
google avatar

Dahlia I.

Yelp
I stopped by this morning and it was good, not great. They have whole wheat everything, which is a win in my book. I was happy to see decaf iced coffee but it was insanely bitter and not smooth at all, I threw it away. However, the bagel was really good, except the seeds were primarily only on one side of the bagel. The scallion cream cheese was delicious. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back but if i'm in Chestnut Hill and craving a bagel, I'd pop back in. Service but friendly and fast, exactly how it should be in the morning!

Anon L.

Yelp
If you're craving a nice breakfast sandwich, I don't recommend making the trip to The Bagel Table in Chestnut Hill. Ordered a simple bacon egg and cheese and it was the most dry thing I've ever had. Not only that, the sandwich itself was so thin! Barely any bacon or egg on it :(

Paul J.

Yelp
The place was packed with a very slow moving line, which may be a good sign of high demand, but it was really just that they were understaffed. While I was waiting in line I noticed that the only heat they are using in the assembly of the bacon egg and cheese is a microwave... microwaved bacon and eggs slapped onto the bagel. Explains why it was so mediocre. Will not be returning.
google avatar

Toi P.

Yelp
The breakfast club at work chose this as one of their weekly carry out selections. I ordered a bagel sandwich on marble. My first choice was Black Russian. This was a great alternative. My sandwich could have used more bacon and eggs but overall the flavor was really balanced. I'd definitely dine here again
google avatar

Sincere J.

Yelp
Lox bagel with cappers is yummy, next time I'll request easy on the cream cheese. Turkey croissant sandwich was yummy. Strawberry lemonade was yummy. Friendly staff, great for a quick breakfast.
google avatar

Kim F.

Yelp
Too many bagel places in the area to waste your time going to this one. This is the second time I visited this bagel shop and they got my order wrong again today. They tried to correct my order and when I got home it was still incorrect. I do want to note it was a simple order of toasted bagels with cream cheese. I won't be back.
google avatar

Faye A.

Yelp
The bagels are fine and the prices seem right. It's never particularly crowded on the weekends, even though it's a small place. The waitstaff is usually quite friendly and you don't have to wait particularly long for your order to be ready. Definitely not the best bagels I've ever had, but not bad!

Marissa M.

Yelp
Awful customer service, people who work there are so rude with customers. They messed up my order, (for which I waited for over 10 min), didn't apologize, and didn't offer to cover it or fix it. I've stopped going there because how awful the staff is. My mood went down every time I visited this place. When they go out of business, it will be due to their terrible customer service and rude employees. Don't go there! Better off going to Starbucks.
google avatar

Buggy B.

Yelp
Went in there this morning the place had a great decor and it was very clean. That is about the only good things this place has to offer. The bagels were as good as a frozen bagel, they put no butter on your bagel and got half our order wrong. Go anywhere else if you want a decent bagel. They also decided to only cut half of my bagels in half.

Nikita S.

Yelp
yummy yummy very good bagel, prices super cheap, good location, Snapple yummy. I like Snapple
google avatar

Hari K.

Yelp
ordered a sesame bagel with chive cream cheese and it was amazing but the show stopper is their crumb cake. it's 5 inches high and 3 of the inches is the crumb! it's unbelievably delicious
