"Before there was Call Your Mother or Bullfrog, this humble strip mall spot in Silver Spring was dishing out quality New York style bagels. The Bagelry has ordering apps for iPhone or Android for that offer contactless pickup." - Tim Ebner

Google
Absolutely stellar experience at The Bagelry in Silver Springs, thanks to the owner, Steven! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by Steven himself. The bagels are truly exceptional—fresh, flavorful, and baked to perfection. The wide variety of toppings and spreads made it hard to choose just one! Service was prompt and friendly, thanks in large part to Steven's attention to detail and passion for his craft. Five stars without a doubt, I'll definitely be back for more, thanks to Steven and his wonderful team!

Google
Best Bagels. I have been to every bagel store on the north side of DC and can confidently say these are the best. You might be able to get a better bagel in New York City....

Google
Update 2023: still the best place to get a bagel in the silver spring area. Best to get here early on Sunday or the line could be a bit long. The selection is quite generous on the bagels and sandwiches and the prices are reasonable. Big selection of fresh tasty bagels. The Nova on the run is a little pricy but very good. I must try if you like lox. The chocolate chip bagels and the cinnamon bagels are the kids favorite.

Google
So hard to find authentic chewy bagels, this is amazing. My favorite is chicken salad on a toasted bagel. Lettuce and tomato are as fresh as the bagels..yumm. The one making the sandwiches is always so wonderful and polite. The one at the register tends to make you feel like she's annoyed to be there, but it's eh, whatever, not really bothering me.

Google
Bagels were great, lots of unique flavors and I loved the salami as a meat option. Bagels were small though and lox cream cheese was light on lox. However- you cannot have tables for customers to stand and eat at and not have a bathroom for your customers. They have a bathroom for staff only- really put a bad mark on my experience

Google
1 cheese and 3 everything bagels: $8.84 with a 10% tip. Lots of melted cheese and lots of toppings on the everythings. The store is clean. Neat to watch the bagels being made. There is no seating in the restaurant. There were bags of six day old bagels available on Friday at 8am.

Google
I’m not a *complete* bagel snob, but I am certainly “snobbish” and the bagels here are delicious. Lots of spreads (even green olive, my favorite!) and coffee that, while not the most delicious, is always hot and full of caffeine. Good options for breakfast stuff and lunch stuff on bagels. So happy to live nearby!

I was craving a delicious bagel for dayssss finally found this spot and it did not disappoint. Extremely fluffy egg with a fresh toasted bagel. Bacon, Egg, Cheddar cheese on everything bagel 😭🤍

Yelp
Ohh la la, this may be my favorite version of a Nova Lox yet! As expected, a great Nova Lox sandwich should be a dollop of evenly spread cream cheese, a blanket of sliced salmon covering said cream cheese, plenty of capers distributed throughout, and we can't miss out on some strategically placed red onions for zing (the lettuce isn't optional but luckily it's more for color and texture than for taste). It is indeed a big bite but a flavorful mouthful in every single bite. I love that the cream cheese isn't the only ingredient I taste and more than enough capers were available to help with the potent taste of red onions. And don't fret, those rainbows in the bagels didn't alter the plumpness nor taste of this amazing sandwich. If you're looking for anything else squashed between a freshly made pillowy bagel, you must check out Bagelry here in Colesville!

Yelp
The bagels are excellent, but the prices are absolutely outrageous. If you just stop in for a half dozen or dozen bagels, it's about $2 per bagel which I think is on the high side. Their bagels are on the smaller side but they are pretty tasty so I'm willing to pay up. The bagel sandwiches, on the other hand, are outrageously expensive. The "Nova on the Run," with cream cheese, lox, tomato, lettuce, onion, and capers now costs $15!! I can buy two pounds of lox alone at Giant for that price. And a bagel with cream cheese costs between $6-8. That is just not worth the extra effort to put cream cheese on a bagel yourself.

Yelp
The Bagelry was a pleasant surprise - they make their bagels in shop, and you can see the oven where they are being baked! The menu offers various types of bagels and shmears, made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, deli sandwiches, salad sandwiches, and even combos. We came here around brunch time, and the place was pretty packed; there were many who had already placed an order and were waiting for them. We ordered: +the Egg on a Bagel with Sausage breakfast sandwich - opted for a jalapeno bagel; this came out piping out, and the folded egg was of generous portions; the jalapeno bagel was just okay - we prefer the ones that are sliced and baked on the surface of the bagel, whereas the Bagelry's version has diced jalapenos mixed in +Nova on the Run - sliced lox on a bagel of one's choosing, with cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, and capers; I went for the everything bagel, opting out of lettuce, substituted the plain cream cheese for scallion cream cheese, and requested extra red onions and extra capers; the cream cheese was okay, as it was just 'hard'; the sandwich itself was generously filled, and all the ingredients were super fresh The bagel themselves were still soft with a slight crisp exterior; we were worried that the bagel would have been more chewy and slightly stale since we came later in the morning, but we were glad that this was not the case. The bagel size itself is slightly small, but depending on what you order, you'd still be filled up. Staff were kind, friendly, and welcoming! There is also a rack of day-old bagels at a discounted price. I'd love to return to try out their deli sandwiches during lunch! Parking is available in the shared strip plaza lot. +good fresh bagels +fresh ingredients +friendly service +free parking in shared strip plaza lot

Jay S.

Yelp
Good bagel and cream cheese selection. Coffee was good, too. It's been a Colesville staple for years.

Charles M.

Yelp
When only the best will do! I can't tell you how long I have been going to this establishment. The staff is quick and the product is amazing. These bagels are authentic and fresh. Things inside are a little dated. But it's old school and I like the old school vibe. Get you some of these bagels

Dago B.

Yelp
Good bagels. One of the few independent places in this part of the DMV. Standard saturday morning ritual.

Zack N.

Yelp
I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese on everything bagel. Will not be returning. The food is not fresh, all frozen or pre made from a supplier. Nothing is coming fresh from a kitchen besides the bagels. I watched the cook and the eggs are poured out of a carton into a plastic container, then microwaved to cook (gross). Hopefully the plastic can withstand heat. The bacon is also underwhelming. It is not fresh sliced bacon butcher cut. They use precooked bacon circles from a food supplier which are microwaved. I recommend Bethesda bagels or Uber bagel... they know how to make a Sammy!

Lakshmi S.

Yelp
supee crispy and great clean and courtious servjce. the choices are Huge will highly recommend though there are no cha

Michael H.

Yelp
Very good bagels, friendly, efficient service. Fair prices. Legit NY style bagel's including salt and garlic bagels.

Stanley M.

Yelp
Out of bagels except for plain and banana by 1:30 pm on a Saturday. Went to an Italian Club instead. Spicy (surprising), and flavorful, on multi-grain bread. I guess if I really want a bagel sandwich for lunch, I have to get it for breakfast.

Sylvia M.

Yelp
Great bagel sandwiches and fast friendly service. We had the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, capers tomatoes and lettuce and my friend had the garlic bagel with jalapeño cream cheese and the same! Both were toasted and delicious!

Tyler C.

Yelp
Fresh quality bagels. Come at the right time And they are warm and mildly chewy. Lox spread was great. Hours vary. Open at 730 now.

Melissa L.

Yelp
Honestly, I've been coming here for years even though there are multiple bagel shops between my house and here. So yummy, definitely feels like a NY type of bagel (lived in NY for several years so I have credibility there lol) I loveeeeee love loveeeee the bag of bagel chips because who doesn't love a nice crispy treat through out the day without eating a whole bagel lol. My fam loves when I come home with bagels from here which has usually been every Sunday lol! They last us all week and they always have their own favorite one. #foreverafan

Cheryl W.

Yelp
Guys the bagel nova lox was one of my go to's However the amount of lox on the bagel today is shameful, Shameful. For the $$$ + tip. Wow. Come on owner aka the Silver Fox. Come on!

Ron D.

Yelp
Really good neighborhood bagel shop that gets it right. Time after time. From a great selection of freshly made bagels to a deli stocked with yummy selections.

Jessica A.

Yelp
Great bagels, staff is personable and have urgency for your time. Thank you for being here and for years to come!

George H.

Yelp
Always great bagels. Friendly and clean. Service is fast and checkout easy. Would highly recommend.

Amanda W.

Yelp
The best bagels hands down. Order online to avoid waiting. Always good customer service.

Richard G.

Yelp
Nice fresh bagels. About the same size as commonly found in freezer sections of groceries. But better flavor and chew than grocery store ones.

Alex G.

Yelp
Phenomenal place for a quality bagel that also has numerous creative cream cheeses never seen other places (cookies and cream!). Had the breakfast sandwhich that I ordered come with fresh cooked bacon versus that thin microwaveable stuff- the sandwich would've been 5 stars. Definitely not enough to keep me away from this place but will stay away from the back.

Christos M.

Yelp
Hands down the best bagels in the area. Honestly, you may not find better bagels, even in NYC! Friendly and fast service. Their smears and deli meats are great too.

Dave F.

Yelp
Great service and good unique bagel options. Was down in the area and wanted to try this bagel spot that I saw rated well. Turned out the reviews were good for a reason. The remaining options were limited when I got there, so yes, get there early. They have a very large variety of bagels and spreads. The cash register was manned by a very friendly young man. I ended up getting: A Cheese Bagel ($1.35) Lox Spread on a PumperThing ($4.89) Hot Peppa Cream Cheese on a Spinach Parmesan ($3.89) Blueberry Muffin ($2.29) The cheese bagel was rather nice. Be sure to get a few napkins as its a little oily. The lox spread wasn't my favorite. The fish too fine-ground into the cream cheese, but the bagel was fresh and good. The hot peppa spread was a nice find. It went very well with the rather unique spinach parm bagel. The blueberry muffin was soft and good as expected. If I ventured over this way again, I'd surely try to stop in again earlier when there are more options available.

Faustinoski A.

Yelp
Love this joint. The staff is friendly and the bagels are top notch. I am the biggest fan of their challah bagel, can't describe how nice and delicate that bagel is. Coffee is good too. Can't get enough of this place, I've been a patron for so long that I don't even know why I didn't reviewed them since the very first time I tried it. More than 5 years, shame on me. lol love this place.

Chris B.

Yelp
The egg & cheese bagels were a bit bland. The bagel itself added to the flavor a bit but it just didn't seem that worth it in the end. Good customer service though.

Christine T.

Yelp
The Bagelry makes my very favorite bagel in the world: a sourdough bagel. This should be impossible to make because sourdough is yeast based and you should not be able to boil it like a bagel must be cooked,, but somehow they do! It is addictive! Anyway I have been coming here for more than 30 years and they have always made consistently excellent and delicious bagels. Their sandwiches are generous their prices are not unreasonable compared to Panera and other bagel places. It's a place you run in, pick up your order and run out, so I won't comment on the decor except to say it has always been very clean whenever I've stopped in. Bottom line, they make great chewy bagels and do them well. Theyarechewy with good body but not jaw breaking. I've loved every flavor I've tried and they put plenty of cream cheese on if you order one toasted. Give it a try, you'll be delighted.

Chris D.

Yelp
Always get the Nova or Lox on the Run... ALWAYS.... it's D-LOX son! D-LOX DELUXE... Deluxely Delicious. Deliciously Deluxe... Deliciously D-LOX... I swear I'm not drinking and yelping again. You know how if you say a word repeatedly enough... it sounds weird and loses its meaning... But you know what I'll never get tired of... their deliciously lox or nova on the run sand which. It's awesome. Not just that... all their bagels are great. I love their blueberry bagel with their strawberry cream cheese.

Laura F.

Yelp
Wasn't wrong store. Lived off of Kemp Mill , Springbrook Forest in Silver Spring at the time I ordered.

Tommy V.

Yelp
These bagels are DELICIOUS. I make my own custom breakfast bagel and i load it up with home fries bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel, and it is so so good. Reminds me of NY bagels and definitely would recommend checking this place out! They are quick and the ordering system makes it easy.

Clixter C.

Yelp
I've visited here several times and am always impressed. Love their breakfast wraps and bagels.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Bagels are amazing. Service is friendly and efficient. The bacon is awful. It's like tiny broken pieces of flavorless plastic. My search for a daily bagel shop continues...

Russell B.

Yelp
Excellent bagels and awesome service! We also like their lox and cream cheeses! It's the best

Julee W.

Yelp
Ordered four bagels Togo here today $18 The Whitefish is smoked and delicious I had a blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese. It was really good, not too overwhelming sweet just right, would have been phenomenal with some sliced fresh strawberries and blueberries . The everything bagel was fully top loaded with garlic, poppy, onion, and sesame. All the bagels came stacked full with fillings. One of the best things about The Bagelry is the multiple flavors of cream cheese, all of them are so soft & creamy and quite wonderful. The bagel's themselves are chewy and the texture is dense. Not the biggest sized bagels you will find but certainly the most variety you will find in the area.

Thomas A.

Yelp
Top notch bagels and cream cheese. Great service. The muffins were good too. I love the Maven bagel sandwich. A1 spot!

Katelyn K.

Yelp
I am a bagel snob. I grew up in the New York area, so bagels are a way of life. I have hunted down here for fresh bagels that could hold a candle to the ones I grew up with. Lo and Behold! The Bagelry. This is how bagels were meant to be made. You walk in and the first thing you will notice is the large oven in which the magic happens. There are many flavors of bagels regularly available from onion and garlic to plain, egg, and everything. Their cream cheeses are also a thing to behold - from strawberry to scallion to veggie. You could probably come in every day for 4 months and never have to have the same combination of bagel and cream cheese. AND if you some how get tired of bagels and shmear (how I will never understand, but alas) they have great deli sandwiches. This is place is a gem!

Leo T.

Yelp
10/10 breakfast spot ngl I don't tell people about this one I'm gatekeeping cause it's good

Austin G.

Yelp
The Bagelry has all the makings of an epic bagel shop. It's in a random strip mall in Silver Spring. The owner/manager has a big personality that make you want to return. The space is no frills and you can watch staff make fresh bagels. They have over two dozen types of bagels including an oat bagel. They have many cream cheese options including a cookies and cream one. Their menu is large from plan bagels to breakfast sandwiches. However, the bagels were just okay. They were chewy, but not as tasty as Bagels Etc. or Pearl's Bagels in Washington, D.C. My sesame bagel with strawberry cream cheese was decent, but not worthy of frequent return trips.

T. C.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot! Wish they sold more mini bagels like the used to. Good salads, sandwiches, baked goods and bagels of course!

Sagarika D.

Yelp
My go to for bagels in the DC Metro area. You really can't go wrong here! They even have vegan schmear.

Dave B.

Yelp
Called on a Sunday morning to place a small, simple order, was told they are too busy and to use the app. Whoever answered my call was rude and wanted me off the phone. Why pick up the phone in the first place? The app charges a $2 "convenience fee," regardless of order total, which I refuse to pay as why should I be paying for a service which makes it more convenient for them to receive my order? Calling is actually more convenient for me, I don't have to navigate their cumbersome app. Shouldn't I be getting a small discount for using the app since it helps them receive orders more efficiently? Never in my 10+ years of using apps have I needed to pay a convenience fee for using one for any kind of service or product. Needless to say I don't have time for this nonsense and will be taking my business elsewhere.

Liz M.

Yelp
Great and quick service! It's a cute little shop and they're very good to those with allergies in taking precaution. They have a variety of bagels and cream cheese options!

Elias M.

Yelp
Good bagels! Home made taste and they have lots of options for cream cheese and bagels. They also serve breakfast sandwiches and other deli items! The doggy bagel is great! my dog loves it!

Scott E.

Yelp
"Unicorns, I love them; Unicorns, I love them," Agnes, the youngest of Gru's recently adopted daughters, sings at the top of her lungs before drifting off to sleep, unaware that Edith, one of her sisters, would soon accidentally disintegrate her favorite toy, causing her to hold her breath to the point of passing out. But what if, instead of getting Gru to promise to buy a replacement unicorn, Margo had offered Agnes a perfectly toasted, light and fluffy, piping hot sausage and egg sandwich on cheese bagel from The Bagelry? Startling as it may be, Despicable Me might have been an entirely different movie, with Agnes having an entirely different object of fascination, one that she could consume any time she or one of her sisters or "cousins" visited this oasis on 36 Vital Way in Silver Spring, Maryland to purchase her a delicious and decadent breakfast sandwich on the bagel of her choice. Gru's minions might have completely forgotten their quest to serve Gru in his own soon forgotten quest to rule the world!

Kristin G.

Yelp
Ever since Bagel City went downhill and then closed I've been looking for a place that makes delicious bagels that aren't just glorified bread in a bagel shape. This Bagelry makes the best bagels I've had outside of NYC. My favorite is the "pumperthing" which is a pumpernickel bagel with everything seasoning. It's absolutely amazing. And the service is friendly too!

Mr. B.

Yelp
I truly enjoy their Bagels. They are fresh and there is a good selection. The service is always friendly and the prices are reasonable.

Candy Y.

Yelp
Very good service, the people here are very friendly. But it's so sad, the bagel is really bad, it's hard and chewy

Hillary H.

Yelp
Ever since moving to MD from NY, I've been on the hunt for a good bagel. Let me tell you, The Bagelry does not disappoint. They have a large variety of bagel flavors that include sweet options like blueberry and cinnamon raisin to savory options like everything and garlic. I've enjoyed every single one I've had so far. Their cream cheese selection is pretty good too; the texture and flavor seems to be on the lighter side. I personally prefer thicker and stronger flavors in my cream cheese, but the bagels are so good, I don't even mind. I think ordering pick-up from The Bagelry has helped me keep my sanity in the midst of this quarantine! You can place a phone order ahead of time to avoid waiting in your car for too long.

Ronald B.

Yelp
The Everything Bagel with Egg and Cheese was satisfyingly delicious. The bagel tasted like it came right out of the oven and the egg just out of the pan. Also, the Onion Bagel with Strawberry Cream Cheese. The cream was so richly soft and savory smooth. And I can't forget about their excellent service. As soon as I place my order, it was ready within 2-5 minutes. So, don't worry too much about the small and tight parking they offer as patrons usually come in and out of this place.

Joshua W.

Yelp
My fiancee and I stop by the Bagelry every chance we can -- it is one of our favourite breakfast spots. As a New Yorker, I demand good bagels, and the Bagelry delivers on it. I'm a fairly simple bagel guy, I'll typically order a plain bagel, with plain cream cheese, and because I'm not actually that simple, top it with lox, capers, and the whole nine. The Bagelry has great lox, as well as a good spread for those not wanting actual lox. My fiancee is a bit more complicated (in her food order! That's all I meant, jeeez). She seems to pick her bagel and cream cheese orders using a dart board, and just when I think I've got it figured out, she'll get a sandwich. The Bagelry never fails to deliver something new and delicious -- they have an incredible selection of cream cheese. They got your plain, they got your veggie, they got your bacon, they got your strawberry, they got your birthday cake flavoured -- and I may or may not be kidding about that last one. There are some incredible flavours, and I admit I haven't been brave enough to try them yet. Craving a little variety, or just something homesome and comforting? They've got you covered.

Kim P.

Yelp
My go to bagel place in the DMV. They have a great assortment of flavors made fresh every day. They have cream cheese to go, or you can have them make your favorite bagel on the spot (everything, toasted with scallion cream cheese for me). They have a few pub style tables, but no chairs. They make sandwiches here and meat and cheese platters, though I've never had them, so I can't speak to their quality. As you're checking out, don't forget to grab a container of their delicious rugelach! Bottom line: I've tried others, but will continue to come back to the Bagelry because they're fast, affordable and delicious!
