The Bailiwick - Free House

I made a reservation for my wife’s birthday and as soon as we entered the restaurant we were made to feel very welcome and my wife was wished happy birthday by the front of house staff. The service was superb throughout the evening. The food was excellently prepared too. For starters we had Shellfish Rarebit that was on a shell on a box full of pebbles. My wife for main course had Windsor Great Park Game Bird with a choice of pheasant, partridge or wood pigeon. My wife chose the pheasant and she said it was delicious. For my main course I had Cut of the Day" 48 Day Dry Aged Steak. I had it cooked medium rare and it was the most tender piece of steak I have had in years. We had sides of Chantenay Carrots and Buttered Greens too. For desert my wife had Spiced Pear Parfait and I had Caramelised Apple Terrine. This was an exceptional meal and I would not hesitate to recommend and return again.

Wonderful meal in this cute little pub. The food was incredible and the staff were amazing and very friendly with little kids, a special shout out to Johnny who gave us great service. On top the great food we also got to pick our own deer antler knifes to have our main meals with and we were right by the fireplace which was very cozy.

Really gorgeous pub, tucked away, fantastic food but very pricey. Would out perfectly with a long walk around Virginia Water and the dogs were welcome (if not offered treats or water). Lovely staff and outstanding food - refined and elegant dishes. But if you’re looking for a big festive roast this is not the place: and at these prices it will be a while before we return.

I had a wonderful birthday Sunday lunch here, the food was perfect, the staff were wonderful I can't fault the place. The general vibe was that everyone was happy to be there, can't wait for my next visit.

Absolutely fantastic dinner, very festive and delicious. Always delivers on quality of ingredients and excellent cooking. Lewis who runs front of house is charming and dose a great job.

We've had Sunday lunch here a few times, always impressed. A weekday lunch this time, so we ate a la carte rather than the standard roasts. Stunning presentation and flavours. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Probably not a great menu if you don't eat meat, but we we ate rabbit, pork, beef and deer and they were excellent. The game charcuterie board was a standout but it's all great. NB there's virtually no parking here, we always park in the south car park and enjoy the 90 minute walk all the way around Virginia Water.

Outstanding from start to finish. The Bailiwick is exactly what a great gastropub should be — confident, seasonal cooking executed with real skill. We started with the venison bon bons and mushroom arancini, both excellent. The bon bons were rich and beautifully balanced, delivering deep game flavour without heaviness, while the arancini were crisp, earthy and indulgent with a perfectly judged truffle note. For my main, the Windsor Great Park game bird was exceptional: a superbly thought-out dish featuring a confit leg croquette, red-wine-poached quince, bread sauce, hedgerow ketchup and a deeply comforting game cottage pie. Each element stood on its own while working together seamlessly — refined, seasonal cooking with real confidence and restraint. Warm, knowledgeable service and a relaxed yet special atmosphere complete the experience. One of the best meals in the Windsor area — highly recommended.

This really feels like an out of the way pub, well sort of namely because it happens to be near one of the entrances to Windsor Great Park. It's sort of tucked away on the side of the road. Anyway, it really did have quite a bit of charm about it. The service was good, and the terrace area at the front was quite nice as well, especially when it is a warm summers day.

Avoid. Starters - 5 out of seven acceptable. Mains - 2 out of seven acceptable - 1 had to be returned twice as unedible and was then replaced with a different dish. Management clearly unhappy at being challenged. Sweets - 2 unedible - 5 acceptable. Wine was not as ordered - a long storey. It is just like trying to eat in the middle of Crufts show ring - dogs everywhere!

The service is decent. I have been there about 3 or 4 times and one time the service was very poor, but this was a standout case. The food is decent and the prices are alright. Just a solid restaurant from taking out your friends, nothing particularly special about it though!

Decent but not great. We came at the tail end of the Sunday Roast serving and paid for it with potatoes that you couldn't slice into. Lamb portion was huge though, and the beef tasted fine. Sticky Toffee Pud was a bit dry, so they lay tons of toffee sauce on it. Best thing was the waffle dessert. Yummy!
