The Best Restaurants at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022 | Where to Eat - Eater London

"Edinburgh has a tendency to become a bit much. The Baked Potato shop puts a stop to this, with a baked potato. A kaleidoscope of toppings are available, it’s sustaining, filling, and has been going for 36 years. For the hungry and the weary, be they performers or spectactors." - James Hansen

Found this little gem after Googling for something to eat. I love jacket potatoes so decided on a visit. It's a small location and we had ours to take away. From the outside it doesn't look the greatest and also inside looks a bit grubby but trust me don't let that fool you. Menu is very clear and the guy is very helpful. The jackets are super huge as your see and very and I mean very filling. Price is very reasonable too. Also don't be put off with the queue as this goes quick. Once we got home and tried these we was blown away with just how good the potatoes tasted and looked. We both had cheese and beans filling and my wife had a bit on salad on top of hers. Both our jackets were a Large size. If your looking for something to eat, try here you won't be disappointed.

✓ All Vegetarian with Vegan Options I was here late afternoon to try the vegan haggis! I had the small with 1 Filling of Vegan Macsween Haggis [£4.99] and loved it. It is a good portion of potato with heaps of the vegan haggis for the price. The vegan haggis had that aged, deep and savoury flavour that I thought was very reminiscent of a proper (non-vegan) haggis (well, the several that I had years ago). The texture was not as similar though, it is grainy – pretty much lentils. Despite that, I really loved it! The vegan haggis was very flavourful and went very well with the baked potato! The potato was well baked – hot and fluffy. The staff that served with was a nice and friendly even though it was quite close to closing. They also offer a good variety of other hot and cold fillings (vegetarian and vegan) from egg mayo, avocado salad & cous cous to curried rice, cheese, baked beans. The shop is more of a grab and go with only one table with benches around it in the shop. It looks unassuming and a bit run down, but a good place to grab a hearty hot snack. I do recommend making a trip here to try their lovely Baked potato with vegan Macsween Haggis!

Google
Lovely place for a tasty vegetarian or vegan baked potato. The portion is quite good, I picked Greek salad as a topping and it was very nice. The price is affordable and worth it. Also, the staff are friendly and welcoming. Very recommended it! They have a some tables to eat in, however, I decided to have it as a take out

Google
Very much worth the visit. It's affordable, the food is tasty, and you get quite big portions, which is grand. The inside has recently been renovated and there's now more seating options than there was before. The staff are also always super pleasant. Highly recommend 👍.

Google
Baked potato place without meat (vegetarian and vegan). Tried three toppings, they were all delicious (haggis, cheese/onion/pineapple and a spinach/bean salad). The potatoes could have been warmer. The place is quite small, ideal for a quick stop. The ladies were lovely.

Google
Lovely potatoes, all vegetarian or vegan. Rather pricey, but very friendly and helpful staff. Small shop so not a guarantee you'll be able to sit. Definitely recommend the chili + cheese (although slightly spicy!)

Google
A lovely little vegetarian shop to have our lunch. I brought the large potato macsween haggis. The haggis was a surprisingly tasty addition to the potato. It was a great experience, with good hospitality. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a little bite.

Yelp
This shop closed in April of 2023. Otherwise, it is a great place! My son worked there years ago and loved it.

Yelp
The Baked Potato Shop is permanently closed. We tried to eat here today but it is now It closed two weeks ago and is now a Scottish Gift Shop. It's run by the same owners.

Yelp
One evening in Berkeley, California, out to dinner with some friends at a Korean restaurant, I shared that I was heading to Scotland in July of 2019 and asked if anybody had been and had any recommendations for places to go. Probing why I was going a little, they got out of me I am of the Gordon Clan of Aberdeenshire, a Scotland of Old clan. One of my friends exclaimed, "Gordon!" He paused, looked me directly in the eyes and said, "You know we're rivals right?!" He is Nate James Lindsey. A member of the Lindsey Clan, one of the Gordon Clan's rival clans in Scotland of Old. Once we addressed our rival ancestries, he recommended to me The Baked Potato Shop in Edinburgh, the city I was flying into/out of for my first trip not only to Scotland, but to Europe as well. Well, I might as well go I thought, how bad can a rival clan recommendation be. The night I arrived in Edinburgh, 5 July 2019, I entered The Baked Potato Shop and was greeted by a friendly worker. After looking over the menu, I went with a baked potato loaded with vegan chilli and vegan Macsween haggis. After placing my order, paying, and getting the baked potato I thought the only thing missing from my first ever evening in Scotland was bagpipe music. No sooner had I thought that than I heard the sounds of bagpipes wafting across the cobbled lane out front of the Shop. Across the cobbled lane I went, lured by the wail of the bagpipes. After listening for a bit and providing a tip I returned to the guest house I was staying the night at. The food was delicious and filled my travel-tired belly. The haggis was the first I had of any kind, vegan or non-vegan, and it was an immediate favorite. Offset from my departure time zone by 8 hours, I went to sleep soon after eating. I woke up early the next morning ready to go. Turns out the baked potato and toppings cured my jet lag in less than 24 hours, quite remarkable. What a way to end my first day in Scotland, a recommendation from a member of a rival Scotland of Old clan yields tasty food. I will however note that I am also of Irish descent, so I am still not sure what to make of the recommendation in light of the Irish Potato Famine... Ahhh, Scotland of Old lives on.

Yelp
Super bummed We were there two days before they were closing their door for good. It was one of my favorite places we ate in Edinburgh lol. Very inexpensive. Cool vibe. We had fun just standing online. And you get a whole potato and a half. And the toppings were so hard to choose from. There were so many. We only went there once, but we will miss you.

Yelp
I love all potatoes, so when I found a shop that specializes in nothing but a baked potato --I was excited! My first attempt to come here failed since they seemed to be fixing something. On the second attempt, we walked into an empty shop with nobody around. Take note to ring the bell if this happens to you too! A man eventually came from downstairs to help us out. Since we weren't too hungry, the two of us shared one potato with one filling (£6). It's an extra £1 for each additional filling. We decided to get the Corn Curry filling with butter, salt, pepper, and all the fixings. The potato was a pretty good size, which was baked soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. On top of it was a huge heaping of curry corn filling. Although they definitely give you more than enough fillings in your potato, it actually wasn't that tasty. The curry was more of a powder flavor with strong stingy and spicy flavor similar to horseradish, wasabi, or mustard. It was so overpowering that I really ended up not enjoying my potato at all --thank goodness we shared. Maybe I made a wrong choice with the filling, but this left me very disappointed.

Yelp
Not a bad place if you're shopping the Royal Mile and you want something different for lunch, this isn't a bad option. Only two sizes here. The Large is one giant potato, the XX Large is two giant potatoes. I love sour cream and was very pleased to see heaping spoonsful placed on my potatoes. In fact, it's probably the only restaurant in the world where I've actually received a satisfactory amount of sour cream! The cheddar cheese and hummus also came in epic proportions! The menu offers 28 toppings, some pretty innovative, and even my picky son found something he liked. It's not a bad stop for the family. You can even get haggis if you want to truly have the Scottish experience.

Yelp
I LOOOOVE potatoes. Especially baked potatoes. So how excited was I when I realized that there is literally a baked potato shop in Edinburgh? Very. That is, until I actually got my food. Got inside and ordered a £6 "large" potato with just sour cream. What I got could only be described as a swamp of clumpy sour cream hiding a mediocre potato. I mean, look at the picture. What. The. Heck. Is. That. I wanted to try the potato underneath, so after some excavation, I bit into a mushy, bland mess. Tossed the entire container in the trash. This place disgraces the name potato.

Yelp
If your in the mood for a baked potato at a reasonable price, this place is meant for you! Located just off the Royal Mile down a tiny little street that will take you to Newtown if you keep walking down. We selected 2 medium potatoes with 2 toppings each. Both the husband and I LOVE food and can eat...our medium potatoes were so big we could only finish half each. Mind you this is a vegetarian baked potato shop so you won't find any meat products. We are not vegetarians either so don't let that sway you. You can survive one meal sans meat!! They ask if you'd like butter or garlic butter and then actually work it into the potato. They don't just drop the toppings on top and let you do the work. We were pleasantly surprised. I had the chili and avocado salad. Both were great. The chili was perfectly spicy. The avocado salad was awesome! It had gigantic hunks of cheese and tomato mixed with some red onion. They have one small table that would seat 4. We took our potatoes back to our hotel and enjoyed from our room while watching TV:-). If the weather is nice, grab your tattie and stroll to the park. The potatoes are so hot even 30 minutes after we got ours. Would be nice if they offered "traditional" broccoli and cheese but hey...who's tradition is that anyway? I'm giving this place 4 stars simply because they don't offer any real meat chooses. With that aside, the food is great and the meat wasn't really that big a deal.

Yelp
Come early so you don't miss out on the amazing toppings. I came here with a few of my coworkers because they were absolutely RAVING about this baked potato that they had on previous trips here. Well, I love potatoes... so initially I was very freaking excited. And oh my... this place did not disappoint. Right when you walk in, you can feel the heat of the ovens hit your body. The shop itself is very small. Only has one table that sits about five. Unfortunately, we arrived a little later in the day, so a lot of the toppings we wanted were all out. So all of us settled with a baked potato (you can choose small, medium, or large) with garlic butter (absolute heaven), salt and pepper, and cheese. And oh my. Sounds plain and boring right? No! Not right! This baked potato (after a minute or two of mixing so my cheese completely melted) is by far one of the best things I have ever eaten. Holy moly. It was freaking delicious. And very fulfilling. I love how quaint the shop is. And the best part is they cater to vegans and vegetarians. Big plus in my book! They even recycle. Yay! My mouth is watering just thinking of this potato I had. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
This place does exactly what it says on the tin...sells yummy baked potatoes! Located just off The Royal Mile, this is a popular spot for tourists and potato enthusiasts alike. I've never seen such an extensive potato filling menu, with all the classics and plenty of vegan friendly options. I also never thought I'd get so excited about said potato filling menu but there you go! We went for the medium size and these were honestly ginormous, I can't even imagine what the large ones are like. I opted for the classic cheese and coleslaw combo with butter and it hit all the right spots. There's only one small table here which we were lucky to get so you wouldn't be coming here with a large group for lunch but this didn't stop the constant flow of people from coming and getting their food to take away. Clearly a popular spot and I can see why!
google avatar

Molly M.

Yelp
Vegan approved. This little restaurant is an entirely vegetarian operation, with tons of delicious items to add on top of the ginormous potatoes you can order. I was a bit taken aback by how many vegan items there were to choose from. The gent behind the counter was super patient and helpful as I considered pretty much every combination before finally deciding. I got the chili and spinach salad together on a small potato and it was awesome. This is a small joint, not a lot of seating inside (if any at all). Will stop by next time I'm in town -- I think this place will become a staple lunch venue for my Edinburgh journeys.
google avatar

Sonya M.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is Delicious and they make the only good guacamole in the whole country. Unfortunately they have recently reduced the size of their portions by a significant margin and raised the prices. It is no longer worth visiting, sadly.
google avatar

Tara F.

Yelp
I feel bad giving a poor review, but this was just not good. We ordered two jackets with chili, and it tasted like spicy veggies in ketchup. The potato was mushy, and not in a good way - I didn't know it was possible for potatoes to be poorly cooked. I wish we'd tried something other than the chili - but I am guessing they'd have tasted similarly awful on such a terrible potato.
google avatar

Rachael C.

Yelp
Baked Potatoes the size of my face and a huge selection of fillings that are all veggie or vegan and delicious. What more could you want? They have a great selection of fillings that you didn't know that you wanted until you see, seriously avocado, cheddar cheese, onion and tomato is a genius combination. Although all the fillings are vegetarian there is such a huge range that meat eaters don't really notice and they are super yummy. The portion sizes are huge, I struggle to eat a 'small' potato and a medium would easily feed two people. Also they stock cans of Arizona Ice Tea which I love. The staff are all super friendly and happy to give suggestions when you are being indecisive. There isn't much seating in the store but get take away and head to the Royal Mile to watch some street performers and you'll be more than happy.

Yelp
I wanted to go there for nearly and year and finally my dream came true.. Well, I love potatoes and I loved their potatoes.. Small, medium or big.. I could eat anything and not complain.. I had a medium and got really full.. So I guess depending on the filling you can be full with a small or medium.. Now if you are a male.. Go for a big!! I was very confused with all the available options and how they count as fillings.. But managed to get what I wanted.. (Mexican filling + cheddar = 2 fillings) cheddar rocks btw.. But next time I think I'll go for the vegetarian haggis.. Also, the prices are very reasonable for the outcome (really full belly)!! Overall, good impression but I would like an easier and less complicated menu...

Yelp
Doesn't look like much when you walk past, but be prepared to eat the largest baked potato you've ever seen! It comes out smoking hot and filled to the brim with any topping(s) one could dream of. I will most definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing idea for a food place. A friend told me about this place from her visit to Edinburgh and was raving about it so I just had to check it out. It's right off the Royal Mile. The staff working were all very helpful, fun, and witty. It was most definitely the best baked potato I've ever had and I've been thinking about them ever since!! If you are walking the Royal Mile I highly recommend stopping in for a baked potato. Their toppings are fantastic and there are tons of vegan and vegetarian options too!
google avatar

Madison B.

Yelp
Delicious vegan food! I am so glad I went here for lunch. So many plant based options and keeping me carbed up on these long hot vacation days. If I ever get the chance to come back I will be stopping here for sure.

Yelp
This is one of those of times where something is obvious, brilliant, and novel all at the same time. When it makes so much sense, so clearly meant to be, that you can't believe it's somehow happening to you for the first time. Where are all the baked potato shoppes of the world, with their steaming jackets of soft, buttery, salt-studded potato filled with the sumptuousness fillings of your choice-- creamy mushrooms?? Egg salad?? Curried tuna?? Gooey melting cheddar and sour cream is what I ended up with, but I could have gone back every day to sample all of their comfort food offerings. Except maybe the vegetarian haggis---I don't need to try that one ; ) The medium potato was SO big and SO filling, I'd like to see Michael Phelps finish one on his own! And yet as my body started to feel like it was morphing into an actual stuffed potato , I couldn't stop forking more of that salty, gooey yumminess into my mouth. The skin! the melted cheese! The love of pure, unadulterated carbohydrates! And for three pounds. Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. Such a simple, sustainable food that has been the poor man's supper for thousands of years still brings so much comfort and pleasure, that it makes you stop and ponder all those expensive nights out at posh, elitist fusion restaurants. Long live the potato shop! Please expand to the United States!
google avatar

Sophia L.

Yelp
Heard about this place especially from the vegetarian community as a must-go in Edinburgh. I stopped here for dinner to-go on a cold night and was not disappointed. I got a small baked potato (which was huge!) with baked beans and cheddar cheese. Even after taking it home in a ten-minute walk it was still hot and the cheese was wonderfully melted. A little pricey but worth it for a treat.
google avatar

Astrid S.

Yelp
I LOVE their desserts. They have the caramel shortbread. I'm american, and to me.. it tasted like Reeses Pieces, less crumbly, more caramely, slightly less sweet. And the guy recommended their Tiffin, which he described as "Christmas pudding- almost." And I tried Xmas pudding awhile back.. it's good, like fruitcake soaked in rum. I came back and bought a kilo of this stuff to take home. It's that yummy.
google avatar

Morgan S.

Yelp
Baked potatoes. Vegetarian. Cheese. Tons of toppings. Fairly priced. Heaven. That is all.
google avatar

P B.

Yelp
The potato itself is cooked well, nice and crispy. Some of the topping options were just odd (avocado with chunks of cheese in it?!) Extremely quick service.
google avatar

Sarah D.

Yelp
I freaking love the baked potato shop. If your a tourist come here just to get cheap and filling food, and if your not just come here because the baked potatoes are BOMB!!!! During the festival in the summer this place is ALWAYS PACKED!!! My favourite is the baked potato with curry and Greek salad. I cannot count the amount of time I have come here hung-over/still drunk and have not been disappointed! GOD I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS PLACE. Just a couple of months ago I was showing some friends around Edinburgh. They all demanded to stop at the subway near this place but I knew this place was better and then I had to hear them bitch for and hour about how I got more food for less money! HAHAH SUCKA'S!!! ****** but seriously....LOVE IT***************
google avatar

S M.

Yelp
We stopped in here to grab a potato to go. Their hours on the website said closed at 5 or 6, but since is was the festival month of August, we decided to stop by to see if they stayed open late this month. Our luck, they did! We stood in a decent line to get our potatoes. I was bummed that they were out of the avocado one, but switched to just a medium cheddar cheese and garlic butter that I shared with my 8 year old. That was plenty for both of us. My two teenagers each got their own small and did the deal for purchasing . The potato was so creamy, almost like creamed potatoes inside a baked potato. We all enjoyed it and I highly recommend. Very conveniently located and cost us about 16 pounds for 4 people, which included 2 small potatoes, 1 medium potato, and 2 drinks. One of the better priced meals we had in Edinburgh.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
They use some seriously BIG potatoes so the "small" is enough to fill anyone. A "medium" is 1.5 potatoes and the large is 2 potatoes. The fillings are great and a few you'd only find in Scotland, just don't be tempted to add too many fillings like I did. This place defines small. There's one table so plan on take out unless you have great timing. The service was great and they load on the toppings.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
I loved our visit to The Baked Potato Shop! Not only did I get a huge baked potato meal, but, got to have it just the way I wanted it. We actually ended up sitting at a table with a young woman from United States who was studying at Edinburgh Uni. Great place to drop in and enjoy a good meal.
google avatar

Natasha J.

Yelp
This place was recommended by some online list of "must see places in Edinburgh!" and it was a total let down. It was mostly just a soggy old potato with about 3 cups of sour cream and 4 cups of cheese on it. Yuk. I couldn't even finish it. My advice is to put a little love into this. Add ingredients that taste good. Put thought into the recipes. It could be sooo good! Bleh. How about some pesto aioli? Or, fresh roasted Mediterranean vegetables? How about a Greek potato with sundried tomatoes, feta, olives and spnach with an italian dressing? How about a Mexican Potato with chipotle sauce, corn, beans etc?
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
Awesome experience! Kind, fast service. Delicious food. Great vegan and vegetarian options. The only drawback would be seating area (very limited) but the food is easy to take away. We were able to sit down and eat, but we felt like we got lucky. Would love to return!
google avatar

Ayelet R.

Yelp
This place had so many options, it makes me sad that we were only in Edinburgh for such a limited time and that I couldn't try more of them. Before coming here I definitely didn't think of Scottish or British food as being synonymous with vegetarian friendly but after visiting this place I definitely had to reevaluate that. I took a medium potato with sour cream and mushroom. I kind of figured that the mushrooms would be cooked so I was surprised to find that they were raw. While I think I might have preferred them to be cooked, with the sour cream they did go quite well. I also had garlic butter on my potato which was awesome! There are few comforts greater than a garlicky perfectly baked potato. The place is tiny and only had one table, so we took our potatoes to eat at Princes Street Gardens about a block down. While there are many reasons to return to Edinburgh, Baked Potato Shop might just be on the top of that list.
google avatar

Alexandra M.

Yelp
I actually did not get a baked potato--I got the samosa and a mango kiwi cake. The samosa was really good--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. However, the mango kiwi cake was quite different. The cake did not taste like anything nor did the frosting except where a piece of kiwi had been sitting on the frosting--It was very moist though! Be warned, there is only one booth.
google avatar

Parker T.

Yelp
This was a really cool find with tonnes of vegan options! I had a small potato with vegan haggis and found it delicious. The price is also great - definitely one of the cheapest whole food meals in town. The staff were also very friendly despite the place being really busy.
google avatar

Faith B.

Yelp
Love this place! Come here all the time for a small or medium potato.. Even the small is huge! I like to alternate toppings but the garlic butter is always a must small shop with just a table that sits about 5 but doesn't detract from the awesomeness of this place.
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
'Aaah, so this is the Baked Potato Shop that is so highly recommended on Yelp', I found myself wondering as I turned onto Cockburn street and entered the shop. Firstly, the smell of the shop is worth one star alone - the delicious smell of baking potatoes is simply mouthwatering, and thats just a prelude to how the potatoes taste.Soft, crispy skinned and delicious. Lots of toppings/fillings to choose from - certainly some odd ones, but generally all amazing. Prices are decent for Cockburn Street, and staff are great. Gets a little busy, but with a smell like that drawing people in, its understandable.
google avatar

Em C.

Yelp
A popular one with the tourists (as the rave reviews suggest), I guess the Baked Potato Shop is seen as somewhat of a novelty to people visiting Edinburgh for the first time. It serves up fresh and hearty baked potatoes (no, really?) for a reasonable enough price - although it has the traditional, additional Cockburn St tax. So if you're stopping by for a bit of a stodgy meal, be prepared to empty your wallet of an extra couple of pounds! Saying that, the portions are generous and well made so you don't begrudge paying the extra money. Cockburn St is a nice location to grab some food, and if it's a nice day you can always sit out on the Royal Mile to savour the fresh air as well as lunch. It's always packed and it's vegetarian friendly. There are a ton of other pubs and diners in the area which serve up similar potato options, but the homely exterior, great cooking and good service of the Baked Potato Shop keeps the customers coming through the door in their flocks.
google avatar

Kylie J.

Yelp
VEGAN OPTIONS. The potatoes were absolutely covered in oil. Didn't even taste of potato. I got a small baked potato with corn on top and generally didn't like it. But, the other two people I was with got Mexican toppings and curried corn and they both enjoyed there's.... Extremely busy place, no place to sit.
google avatar

Nadia G.

Yelp
Baked potato shop how I love thee! Please never stop selling your warm delicious fluffy on the inside crispy on the outside dreamboat potatoes. We love your portion sizes, which are huge, like our hearts are for your delicious toppings. I especially keep retuning for your divine garlic butter, which melts oh so perfectly. Yes your store is small, but it's friendly and cute as are all of your staff. My hangovers love you and so do I.
google avatar

Tibs C.

Yelp
Hubby and I got a large with two fillings - overestimated our stomach capacities...couldn't finish! We picked avocado salad and chili (thanks Yelpers!) and would recommend both. Great price, another shop I would like to bring back with me.
google avatar

Sabrina A.

Yelp
Solid food, and a great deal. The name is pretty self explanatory- it's a baked potato with a topping of choice. In expensive Edinburgh, this is a good choice on a budget, as you get a pretty large portion. There's really nowhere to sit inside though, so best to take the food out for a picnic or something like that.
google avatar

Shae M.

Yelp
Friend was visiting and I declared we had to have a baked potato since it is the British way. We grabbed a small potato with chili (vegan, the only option) and cheese, and a diet Irn Bru on the side. One small table means most potatoes are eaten out of doors. It was delicious and I will certainly be back to satisfy my once a week jacket potato craving. Oh and a small was more than enough for me!
google avatar

Heather G.

Yelp
Baked potato with haggis and cheese was delicious. Many vegan options for some of my family. Small potato was huge and too much to finish. Don't bother ordering a large. Everyone in our group ordered a different size and they all looked relative. As a former restaurant manager, this was my lasting impression: Young employee was sitting outside door smoking when we entered. She came in to help, removed her sweater, replaced her apron, and NEVER washed her hands (or even put on gloves) before handling our food. I wasn't the only one who noticed.
google avatar

Yelp
I went here during a recent stay in Edinburgh, and I really hope I'll have the opportunity to go back. I realize it's just a baked potato shop, but it was so nice to have such a quick and simple fast food meal. Coming from the US where a fast meal = 1500+ calories of greasy death and digestive upset, it was refreshing to get an actual plant and have numerous vegetarian options for toppings. The shop was relatively crowded when I went, but the staff was friendly and patient with everyone (while still keeping things moving along nicely). Prices were reasonable, and though there was no seating, it was easy to find a place outside to eat and enjoy the sounds of a random guy with his bagpipe. After my visit here, I find I've gotten a lot more creative with my baked potatoes. I can't wait to get back to Edinburgh next summer.
google avatar

Alexa G.

Yelp
Pretty good potatoes! The vegan haggis was pretty gross though. I think the texture was very mushy and weird...... I mean I'm vegan to not eat animal products and the haggis really had the consistency of the guts of an animal. So I guess they did their job then with the haggis! Other than that the potatoes are HUGE and so filling! Definitely will return but just not for the haggis :)
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
Great food! I'm no vegetarian, but the "chili", cheese , sour cream potato was the bomb!
google avatar

Melody B.

Yelp
Definitely an Edinburgh staple. I'm not really that big a fan of jacket potatoes to begin with, but on top of that I thought the toppings were a little bland, even the seasoned veggies and salads. Service was fast and friendly enough.

If you're looking a very simple but delicious meal try this. The wide selection of choices can leave you confused and dawdling as you pick exactly what you'd like. For instance, having decided you fancy curry in your spud there are then about 5 options you could take from there. Be sure to take your time as you eat at the solitary table as hurrying along ruins the experience. Fellow tatty lovers join you as you dine, imparting their philosophy on what should and shouldn't fill a potato. Gig and exhibition posters dress the room and give an alternative air to proceedings. The staff are friendly and knowlegeable, often throwing in suggestions on what to try next. The glaringly tasteless tip cup is rarely less than full as a result.

Yelp
I've never seen and eaten such a big potato like this:) You can choose topping and size and there're many side dishes. In my case I could eat big size for lunch and dinner! I really stuffed myself:D I recommened this to my friends who went to edinburgh. When I go to glasgow next time, I'll drop by there:p You should go there and try:)))@

Yelp
Oh the things to say about this place. We went with the expectation that this potato was going to be best we ever had. Well- it was not. I mean.... I KNOW I can make a better baked potato at home, but it wasn't just that.. it was the fact that we got two potatoes but when we asked for a separate container to put the other potato, since we were sharing, we were told that it would be the cost of another potato. What? It was also that there was one table in there. Just one. So I guess it's a takeaway place.. but as a tourist, eating a potato outside in the rain is just not appealing. We waited like 20 minutes for a couple to get up after their potato and then sat next to a random girl who stayed while finishing hers. They were out of guac the day we went, could not taste any butter, had to add salt on top, and then there was just potato left with no toppings. Also the girl was very flaky and you had to repeat things a few times for her to understand.. We were all very disappointed and do not recommend and will not return.

Yelp
Very good, very fast, very vegan friendly. They were out of the first couple sides we asked for but the veggie samosas we got instead were great!

Yelp
Erm. It's the Baked Potato Shop. An Edinburgh institution! It does baked potatoes and they are absolutely amaaaazing. They only do veggie and vegan fillings, which means a rainbow assortment of toppings for your tattie, and they do not scrimp on size. The tatties provided are monster portions, so be aware of this when ordering. I remember I once saw a family of Spanish tourists order four large servings - they could have had one between the family! They were swimming in baked potatoes. One small baked potato with one filling is all you need to feel full as you like. There is one tiny table to sit in with - the place does well for tourists and folk on the go. Love, love, love the Baked Potato Shop!
