The Pearl District Just Got a New Sandwich Shop | Eater Portland

"A casual sandwich shop that just opened its second location in the Pearl District, I found The Baker's Mark at 307 NW 10th Avenue mirrors its SE Division deli: submarine sandwiches made on Italian rolls baked daily in-house with traditional hot and cold offerings. Cold sandwiches include turkey, roast beef, a grinder called the godfather, and ham and cheese, all piled with "the works" (mayo, mustard, Italian dressing, and the usual vegetables), while hot options feature staples like a meatball sub, hot pastrami, and a French dip. The new spot has clean, bright, grab-and-go vibes—customers can order online and swing by to pick up sandwiches—making it a likely popular quick-lunch choice for nearby workers; it's open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m." - Alex Frane

Google
9/10 on my personal scale. I think I’ve only used this rating two times or so.. but I love sandwiches so that probably plays a role. $14.50 Godfather: Dutch Crunch — perfect texture (crunchy, chewy) and full bread flavor. Mild Pepper complimented meats well. Pickles excellent — not strong, light briney flavor. Went in on Oct 8 (Wed) around 11:30. The makers seemed very kind. No seating inside but a couple benches outside I left a 1 star review at their other location 2-3 years ago because they sold out and closed early. I’m glad I finally got to try their sandwiches. I will be back whenever I’m in the city

Google
I noticed this good looking spot last year and have been wanting to try it out. My friend and I shared two sandwiches that they cut in half for us: The Godfather and French Dip. Excellent sandwiches!! Ordering is done through a monitor screen which takes a bit of perusing to get through, but you get to add optional ingredients (additional cost) and pick from the different rolls on your own. It’s a bit strange as you don’t really interact with anyone except when picking up your order in a bag. A “hello” or greeting of some sort would be nice. It feels like AI rather than a human experience. But the sandwiches are very good and I’m looking forward to coming back to try another.

Google
It's one of my favorite places to get a sandwich. I enjoy The Godfather, which is one of the tastiest cold cuts I've had. I was able to try their cheesy garlic crunch bread this time. The bread is phenomenal, making you want to enjoy every single bite. The sandwich itself is just a really good one. This location doesn't have a spot to dine in. It's mainly takeout.

Google
I really like the sandwiches but I have found hair in mine both times, other than that the taste overall is hands down amazing. The bread alone Is worth getting there early before they run out.

Google
Amazing sandwiches! The homemade bread is so good. Honestly one of the best sandwiches we’ve ever had. Super savory, tasty and high quality. The chocolate chip cookie was amazing too. We’ll definitely be back. Go here!

Google
Most phenomenal sandwich downtown! Clean fresh and quick, just how lunch is supposed to be. You just can't go wrong here. My favorite is the godfather or any of the hot sandos. All are super yummy 😋 FYI: Take out only.

Heidi O.

Google
They make their own Gluten Free bread! It's delicious and fluffy, not dense like other spots. I recommend getting it toasted but regular is good too! You get to order at a kiosk so you can customize your sandwich at will without having to feel bad and everyone is really kind if you have questions. Anytime I'm in the area I grab myself a sandwich, those cookies are massive too! (Not GF but worth it if you can get away with it) If you haven't tried it, you should!

Google
I ordered a sandwich from here with several ingredients as well as extra cheese. When i picked up my sandwich and got home, they had only made it with cheese, lettuce and mayo. I didnt choose to treat myself to a $15 sandwich for it to be dry and with half the ingredients missing. There was a slip attached to my sandwich with all the ingredients listed so it was either out of spite or negligence, people who don't care at all that someone is paying extra or treating themselves to their business.

Yelp
Solid sandwiches and service. The turkey is tasty and filling. The bread tho is life changing.

Yelp
We had an appointment and time to kill in the Pearl so yelped for someplace we could get a quick bite. Baker's Mark was highly reviewed and close by. Yummmmmers! We did good! It is a simple, clean sandwich shop. No seating inside at all. They do have two benches in front where you can watch the dog walkers stroll by and pet some cute dogs! Place your order on the computers inside. They call you when food is ready. And it was lickety split too, no longer than 5 minutes. Or maybe it seemed short because almost continuously folks came by to get their orders and rave about their sandwiches! I had the cheese on Dutch crunch with the mild pepper salad and Italian dressing. Two kinds of cheese. I believe I got provolone and pepper jack? So fresh and good. Shredded lettuce is the way to go!! My husband had the pastrami, nice! Not salty! The rolls were superb and the fillings ample. No complaints from us. I keep fantasizing about a park, a great band and a Baker's Mark sandwich to go. Now that is a good sandwich!!!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to get a sandwich. Its always reliable and I've never had a bad experience. I like that you can also order online to pick up our at the kiosk. The only downside is that they do not have a place to sit inside to enjoy it. My go sandwich is The Godfather. You just need to try it
google avatar

Yelp
Slaps!! 1000% This is a walk up order & go place. Be aware there are no tables, only a couple public benches outside. We got there about noon on a Tuesday, there were a good amount of people waiting outside for their orders. The fall special loaf Rosemary needs to calm down Parm was out of stock I got the Godfather on the traditional loaf and my husband got the Beet Tuna on the Dutch Crunch. So so good!! The bread was perfect and flavorful, I got mine with easy mayo and the red Italian dressing it was not over sauced or overly messy but definitely a 2 hander!! Very filling!!

Yelp
Placed and online order and aim glad ai did cause the shop in NW is pretty small and has now seating just an fyi. But the sandwich was delicious! Loved the Dutch crunch bread and it was piled high with meat, cheese, sauce, and the chili jam. So yummy
google avatar

Liz S.

Yelp
They have Dutch Crunch! I repeat Dutch Crunch! 4 stars because we came in a little under 2 hours after opening on a weekday, and they were already sold out?! I'm not a local, so I'm unsure if this is typical or not. We went back a few days later, but I put in an online order before they opened this time. The order was ready on time. I love the stamp they put on the paper, it's a nice touch. Everything was fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
No dine-in seating, which I would've preferred. There are just two kiosks for ordering and someone calls out your name when it's ready. The sandwiches had lots of customization options and I went with the godfather on dutch crunch. Unfortunately, the food did not carry well in the ~20 minutes it took to get home - the bread was quite soggy on the bottom and felt dense / chewy overall. Being from SF, I maybe have higher standards for dutch crunch, but this was not meeting my expectations. The fillings were pretty good though, and the portion to price ratio is reasonable for the area.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches on good gluten free bread! There's really not much else you need to know

Yelp
best sandwich place in portland, i wish it was open every day. i am dying on a sunday right now just staring at a picture of my favorite sandwich
google avatar

Marty M.

Yelp
No restroom or tables. Just a place for take-out. Tried this famous beet tuna sandwich on Dutch Crunch. Bread was superb. Couldn't taste the beets at all. It was a good sandwich, but nothing crazy special here. Godfather on Rosemary Parm - this was incredible. Highly recommend!! Much smaller than older reviews show it to be. They definitely only put 10% of the meat they used to. Quite pricey for the amount you get
google avatar

Yelp
1st timer here and omgggg the godfather sammy was delicious, i got basically everything on it lol & it was by far one of the best sandwiches ive ever had !! the staff was also super nice & gave me a free cookie :) which was also really good as well (white chocolate macadamia nut) the only thing i wish they had was a lil more outdoor seating, but i still give it 5 stars 100%
google avatar

Gabriella R.

Yelp
Offers great and hearty sandwiches. Ordering happens at a kiosk, so heads up there. There is some seating there but that ambiance is just okay. For a quick bite and taking sandwiches elsewhere though, this is hard to beat!

Yelp
Meh. Honestly I was pretty disappointed. I had my hopes up especially when I walked in and you could smell the fresh bread which made my mouth water. I ordered two sandwiches for my friend and I ahead online. It says it would be ready in 10-15 mins. Ended up being about 27 mins. Which was frustrating because I was on a lunch break. Whatever, that can be forgiven. The disappointment really started when I sat down to eat my sandwich. It looked amazing and packed with meat and cheese. Unfortunately it was just the part in the middle packed. The meat and cheese didn't reach to the ends of the bread. Just one pile in the center so it looked packed when you cut into full. I ended up reorganizing the entire thing because the bread would slip off and the first 3-4 bites just had bread and toppings. Little did I know the bread and toppings were the best part. The cheese was super thick and lackluster. Probably a good 1/4" thick which wasn't very appealing. The pepper salad topping was excellent I would go for the spicy choice next time. The bread was absolutely a 10/10. Great portion definitely filling.

Yelp
The Baker's Mark is located along a surprising block that, to me, had been hidden by the large ice cream franchise next door. Finally, I found them after several months looking for a new sandwich shop. The interior is quaint but works perfectly for the design as a local bakery fused with a submarine sandwich joint. You can either order ahead of time or use one of the well-designed electronic kiosks to order in-store. There is no indoor or outdoor seating, which is fine for most Pearl people who are always on the go. However, I would love to see a few cute bistro tables outdoors, especially if they could be shared for a value prop with the next-door businesses. Their menu is not large, which is ideal in my opinion. You can, of course, peruse hot and cold submarine menus, but do not miss out on the seasonal specials that highlight change and unique flavors. I was blown away at how fast my order was made and called, especially compared to Break Bread, which can require waiting as long as twenty minutes during the lunch hour. I will definitely be back. The buns are SO GOOD. I would, however, recommend eating your meal as soon as possible, since the soft bread has a tendency to get quite soggy and soaked after several minutes.

Yelp
Omg probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. A self-order kiosk which makes it easy to customize your order, and a speaker system to call your name when it's finished! I got the borgata and it was sooo yummy, from the crispy toasted bread, to the flavorful peppers. I think about this sandwich a lot and I love the stamp touch on the wrapping of each sandwich. 1000/10
google avatar

Yelp
Dutch crunch bread was fantastic (both regular and special rosemary)! The ItItalian sandwich was spot on, added the beer mustard that was a special. The TBLT could have used the pepperoncini but it didn't seem worth $1 to add at the time. Service was super quick and easy as you order at a kiosk and they make the sandwich right away. There were a number of to go orders but that didn't seem to slow down the process.
google avatar

Nate P.

Yelp
Nice little spot downtown and there's an ice cream shop right around the corner! Small place with no seating but they are quick and efficient. You order on the two kiosks to the right and they crank it out for ya. I got a turkey but what most attracted me to this place was the Dutch crunch bread. If you've never had it definitely give it a go. It's sweet and crunchy. Although I would recommend maybe eating it upside down cause the crunch can tear up your mouth like captain crunch ha. Sandwich was tasty and price wasn't too bad. They also have glass cokes which is the best. If you can find some parking give it a go!

Sarah M.

Yelp
I am giving two stars simply for the fact I think this location should be open on the weekends. I love baker's mark and never have the time during the week to grab one. I do already go to the se location but I long for the day to be able to walk and get the perfect Saturday sandwich. That's all... I am sure there's a reason for it but dang.
google avatar

Rhianna S.

Yelp
Go early! I went and they had been open maybe an hour and a half and had already sold out of the Dutch crunch bread. Still a great sandwich with great flavor. Staff was nice too! Cute little shop as well.
google avatar

Dawn M.

Yelp
Amazing sandwich! Fresh baked bread and quality ingredients. I will definitely come back the next time I visit Portland.
google avatar

Adam Z.

Yelp
Pretty solid place to get a sandwich. From the looks of it, they don't cut any corners. Fresh bread, house made mustards, high quality meats and cheeses behind a glass thing on display. I got The Godfather. It had salami, prosciutto, capocollo, ham, mortadella, and provolone. It was good. The meats all seemed to be good quality. I thought the bread could have been better though. It wasn't as fresh as I was expecting. Still, a solid sandwich.

Yelp
Working downtown I wanted a delicious sandwich and this place did not disappoint! Located in the Pearl District, you'll want to order online (unless a larger order then 4 sandwiches). I got to enjoy the T.B.L.T on a Dutch Crunch roll, YUM! So fresh and delightful-They make their bread daily and when they're out, they are closed till the next day- pretty limited. I ordered an early lunch and it satisfied my afternoon completely. Next time I want to get extra bacon, and maybe a roll or three to enjoy later. Pretty decent price for the sandwich- comes warm. Limited menu. They have an Italian roll as well and it's going to be a tough decision next time.
google avatar

Darren Y.

Yelp
Was strolling in the pearl and this new show caught my eye. Located right next to Ben and Jerry's - follow the smells of the fresh baked bread This place is what you'd expect from a pearl district sub shop. Minimalist interior. Yummy menu and a model of their two different breads. I opted for the Italian sub on their crunch bread and it was superb. Bread was great and the fillings even better. A bit pricey - 10 bucks but is a good sandwich. Will come here again

Yelp
I ate the best French dip in Portland I've ever had in my life and that dipping sausage came with was delectable. The bread, that cheese, and the meat went so well together it was like an orgasm in the mouth. I couldn't get enough, and I just ate the damn sandwich too fast... I highly recommend getting that one, but I haven't tried the others but I'm sure they're all amazingly delicious as this is a high rated place to get some food. If you work around the area I recommend going down there and if you know of this place, God bless you.

Yelp
A quick grab-and-go spot with no seatings, perfect for the lunch crowd. Their menu is pretty meat forward witht one vegetarian and one vegan options. Service was fast and efficient. Order from the kiosk or online and come grab your food. They're pretty busy during lunch but the wait wasn't bad. Tried their Beet Tuna Salad and it's pretty solid! Not overly heavy on the mayo and the fish was fresh. Lots of filling of quality veggies, cheese, and sauce. So much so that eating it was a bit of a mess but totally worth it. Gotta get the Dutch Crunch bread. Crunchy, of course, on the outside and nicely fluffy on the inside. Would like to try their hot sandwiches next or ask for the cold one to be toasted.
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Best sammies in PDX! So good they sell out before closing time, regularly. The crunch of the bread is only the beginning of this great experience. Super fresh toppings and fun humans preparing the food as well. One day I wasn't in the best of mood and a team member in the kitchen clocked it and brought me a pickle with a smile. That small gesture in turn made me smile.

Lemmy G.

Yelp
Okay 3.75 stars. This is not a great sandwich town-there I said it. It's mostly a bread thing and they do bread very well. The pepper relish is good. The rest is just average. Still one of the best subs in town. Annoying thing is that they act like they are doing you a favor making you a sandwich and they run out of bread sometimes by 12:30. Freaking bake more sub rolls. I mean y'all got one job.
google avatar

Gia M.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in town! You need to make sure to order ahead of time online to get the Dutch bread..Especially the "limited specials". Right now they're offering a Spicy Dutch Crunch bread with Serrano chiles and a limited hot sweet mustard. Both are fantastic! This is my go to place whenever I am in town!
google avatar

Travis T.

Yelp
This is their 2nd location (original is on SE Division). This location is smaller with no seating, perfect for a grab & go lunch. I got my usual hot pastrami with spicy mustard and Swiss cheese on Dutch Crunch. My gf got the BBQ roast beef. Both were fantastic, I think my new favorite is the BBQ roast beef. This is my favorite sandwich shop in Portland. I'm happy they opened this new location close to my office!
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Awesome sandwiches, great service and amazing Gluten Free bread. My new weekly obsession!. Don't skip the Italian dressing and pepper salad
google avatar

Beth F.

Yelp
OK I just ordered a sandwich from this shop as well as a couple salads and all were fantastic! Someone from Travel Oregon had put three top sandwich shops in Portland and I gave this one to try and it was such a good sandwich! I am now going to become a regular!

Karen O.

Yelp
The sandwich was amazing. No tables inside or out - so best to order online, pick up, and find a nice park bench around the neighborhood.
google avatar

Alissa M.

Yelp
I was working at a coworking place down the street and found The Baker's Mark when looking for lunch. I'm not exaggerating when I say I think this is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I went with the turkey option. The bread was the perfect thickness. Not so thin that the sandwich got soggy but also not so thick where it feels like you have to chew your way through a layer of bread to get to the actual sandwich. I also added their hot pepper mix, and it was fantastic. Definitely has a nice kick to it but was also very flavorful and tangy. I'm not usually a huge sandwich person, but I'd come here regularly if I lived or worked nearby.

Jon C.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and consistent - easily my favorite deli in the city. The Dutch Crunch will change the way you think about how a bread compliments a sandwich overall. A little pricey but well worth it; a lunchtime delight.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
TL;DR: How could you not love it here? Fresh bread, quality ingredients, friendly staff! Was walking around the Pearl and stumbled upon this small shop - so glad that I did!! The ordering is simple and easy. The bread is baked fresh in store and the ingredients are all high quality! The staff was super friendly and the sandwiches were SO yummy. I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Lanny L.

Yelp
Two words: Dutch Crunch. Been exploring the sandwich shop lunch options in NW Portland recently and came across The Baker's Mark. This place did not disappoint. Service was quick. I tried the TBLT on Dutch Crunch - the bread/ingredients were fresh. My photo doesn't do it justice but it was a stacked sandwich and I basically inhaled it. Happy to come across this spot + will be back for more.

Alan L.

Yelp
4 1/2 stars really. Excellent subs Really starts with their bread which is excellent. High quality ingredients.
google avatar

Cindy G.

Yelp
Had the hot pastrami and it was worth standing in the hail/rain for a few minutes outside waiting for them to make. The Italian bread was freshly baked and had a wonderful chewy texture. It served as a great foil for lean, moist, and thinly sliced pastrami. The sandwich is served simply with mayo , mustard, pickle, and swiss cheese (all customizable). Delicious!

Michael C.

Yelp
Picked up a turkey Dutch crunch. Great bread really good sandwich. 4.5 stars. Would definitely come back and try some other stuff.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
This is not your normal sandwich shop! This is created sandwiches that are made with skills!! I mean "com'on man"!! Their French dip is off the hook!!! The bread! The perfect amount of horseradish! The DIP!!! It was so good I had to drink the rest of it. Yup I'm that guy. Ahhhh I have to come back and have one of everything! I also got their Bakers salad. Fresh ingredients, fabulous service and delicious food. I will return to have more of your amazing creations.
google avatar

Bernard W.

Yelp
I give this 6 stars, however it loses one star due to it being only open during the week during lunch hours. The bread is made fresh daily, and you can tell. The portion size is fantastic, I'm always full when I'm done, and I almost immediately want it again.
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
I got the French dip. Decent. Good flavor. However, not 1, not 2 but 3 full peppercini stems? The cup of au jus was less than a 1/4 cup. With the new sandwich shops In the area that are on point (Break Bread, Charlie's Deli) little things like this matter to someone who works, lives and often eats in the area. The bread is very delicious. The staff is friendly. Attention to detail is lacking.
google avatar

Jeanie N.

Yelp
The Dutch crunch is literally what's I run in here for. It's their homemade bread and once they are out for the day, they are out! Do not even risk craving a Sammy at 1:45pm because you could get sad. I've only eaten The Godfather sandwich with the works. I'm not a mustard gal but I heard it's scratchmade for you enthusiasts. Godfather is all cold cuts and salami's topped with provolone. No substitutes on the meat (duh that's why it's The Godfather, you don't question the Don!) It's so delicious and while I'd like to try the rest of the menu, I can't...when the craving hits you don't split!
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
This is the best sandwich I've had in this town. Bunk and the other fancy sandwich spots are fine, but not memorable. This place is legit. And you really can't go wrong here with whatever you get. The bread is fantastic (dutch crunch, and baked in-house!!) and all fillings look amazing. There is a very good looking vegan sandwich. I was a fan of the tuna salad/beet with the works, and my buddy got the turkey, which he said was fantastic. There is a gluten-free bread option too. Clearly, you need to come here :) and bring your veggie, meat, and gluten-free eaters! This is going to be my go-to sammie spot. Thank you, Baker's Mark!
google avatar

Lauren A.

Yelp
One of the best subs we've ever had if not the best, really. The Dutch crunch bread is worth coming here for alone, but everything else is also incredible. As pictured, both our sandwiches came fully loaded and the perfect balance of every ingredient, there's no shortage on portions here. Highly recommend the TBLT (hot) and godfather + avocado.
google avatar

Carlee M.

Yelp
It was fine. The reason why I gave three out of five stars, is because the bread was super chewy and the meat lacked flavor. I ordered the hot pastrami so maybe they popped it into the microwave to warm it up, which is why the bread got chewy? Not sure.

Henry C.

Yelp
Kind of disappointed given the good reviews on here. I got the TBLT sandwich to go, which was just ok. Nothing special about it. Biggest disappointment was the "Dutch crunch" bread which was extremely soggy and not crunchy. Won't be coming back.
google avatar

Gabby K.

Yelp
We got really lucky coming here, they were almost sold out of bread, we were one of the last orders for the day. French dip was tasty and TBLT was good too, the dutch crunch bread was amazing!
google avatar

M C.

Yelp
The Dutch crunch bread is super fun! The pepper jack has just the right amount of spice and the ham was tasty! The employees were kind and made my sandwich fast and correct!
