Anthony Bourdain Balvenie Scotch Ad Sparks Emmy Night Outrage on Twitter | Eater

"Shortly after the Emmys’ in memoriam segment, a scotch maker aired a commercial that repurposed footage of Anthony Bourdain discussing when (and when not) to follow your passion — including his line that it’s “not always a great idea to follow your passion if you’re passionate about something you’ll never be good at,” and his exhortation to pursue endeavors that can “shock and astound and terrify and bewitch.” The spot ends with a title card reading “And so you did. We’re proud to have shared your journey,” but its timing prompted heavy backlash on social media as a tone‑deaf attempt to capitalize on national mourning. The ad was reportedly cobbled together from earlier “Raw Craft” videos Bourdain helped create while serving as the brand’s spokesperson, content that originally featured minimal brand call‑outs." - Greg Morabito

Specifically chose to tour Balvenie as I’m a big enjoyer of their whisky and what a great decision it was! This was the best distillery tour we did in Scotland and the tasting session was great. Came away with a few bottles to fill the suitcase up.

The Balvenie Tour is probably one of the best distillery tours you could take. What sets it apart is that Balvenie is one of the few distilleries that is fully self-sufficient, handling everything from malting to mashing, distilling, and coopering their own casks. Our guide, Brian, was hilarious and kept the tour engaging with his great sense of humor and wealth of knowledge. He made the entire experience not only informative but also incredibly fun. If you’re a whisky lover, this tour is an absolute must!

This might have been my favorite distillery tour ever! The guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the whisky. And a very cool location. Would visit again!

Outstanding 3 hour tour and tasting. A must do if you can book early enough to get a ticket. I remember this forever.

This is one of the best tours I have ever been on. Morag made this such a fun experience. She was clearly knowledgeable but what was most appealing was her obvious admiration and loyalty to her company. This family run business makes you feel right at home by welcoming you with refreshments and comfy leather couches before a very extensive tour of the grounds. So much informative and fun facts, she had us laughing and having a lovely time. Then finish off with a great tasting that was not skimpy. We left with some scotch and other fun things from the gift shop. Overall a fantastic experience. If you are looking for a great tour in Speyside, don’t skip Balvenie.

We are no whisky connoisseur but happened to be in the area so dropped in to check out the distillery. There were some last minute cancellations and we got on a tour! Tour was more expensive (£75) than some distillery but was comprehensive and we got a good understanding of their cooperage which is great since we did not manage to join a tour at the Speyside Cooperage. Guide was patient and did not rush through the tour, allowing for questions. No photos on most part of the tour though. However, tasting room which was the finale of the tour was small (a bit like a break room for staff) and a bit letdown in terms of overall experience compared to other distilleries. The drivers pack was just clear bottles and one has to write and put on own labels.

Excellent tour experience presented by the guide Tino. He distilled knowledge about the whisky-making process and motivation towards whisky. Plenty of time for questions, which were precisely and entertainingly answered. He was kind enough to swap one of the tasting bottles to accommodate my interests. The whole 2.5 hours tour sparked motivation and curiosity about The Balvenie and whisky in general. The distillery is great, with some unique features such as their own cooperage and malting floors (all reachable through the tour). Good tour for learning and tasting nice drams whether you are a novice or an expert on whisky.

We checked the reviews and thankfully we made the choice to do this tour. We had a great time, Brian was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic! I can’t say enough about this tour. Three hours long, never bored. Loved it!

Yelp
We unfortunately visited during the silent season and with heavy maintenance so our tour was limited to the visitor center, cooperage, and tasting. As other reviewers stated you should definitely sign up for Warehouse 24 club before touring for a nice additional sample of whisky. The tour guide was great and the tour was as good as it could have been given the limitations of the maintenance. I wish our visit wasn't during the silent season but oh well. It is one of my favorite whiskies. The parking and signage is as difficult to discern as described. If you are looking for food you should visit glenfiddich next door (also owned by William grant and sons). That is the closest restaurant.
