"Reopened on Oct. 9 as a seven-nights-a-week karaoke bar, this newly renovated 353 King Street spot, run by Chris “Boston” DiMattia, emphasizes nightly singing, dancing, and tropical-style drinks. Recovery Room Owner Purchases Former Upper Deck Tavern Space | Eater Carolinas

"Purchased by local owner Chris “Boston” DiMattia from Brian Wolter, this King Street bar will be rebranded as a seven-nights-a-week karaoke lounge with different nightly themes — think country western, ’80s, and show tunes — and a small back room for private karaoke groups. The owner plans to invite local drag queens to MC several nights with opportunities for duets, and has enlisted bartenders Matt Lane (Dudley’s) and Cullen Baney (formerly of Upper Deck) along with Recovery Room staff to run the bar. The concept will include four frozen drink machines, a signature punch on tap, and a simple hot-dog-focused menu, all designed to create a fun, safe, and inclusive spot for birthdays, bachelorettes, and other celebrations; opening is slated for October. The new venture replaces an earlier attempt at 353 King St. that never fully recaptured the former dive bar’s crowd." - Erin Perkins

Order the mango slush with vodka! This was truly one of the best places we visited for entertainment in Charleston. The vibes were great. The people were kind. Karaoke was amazing. There were no private rooms, but singing in front of a bunch of people you don't know cannot be beat. Got pizza afterwards at the pizza shop just a short walk from here. Came back and sang a little more.

Hagan, Walker, Cullen and “Matty on floor two” made this the best weekend ever! Best bartenders I’ve ever seen. Always found me my pineapple high noons. Can’t wait to visit again. The only thing that would make it better is if Big Max were still slinging drinks behind the bar.

this is the place you want to be if you love karaoke and having a good time!! it’s not your typical karaoke place. no need to rent a room or call all of your people. go alone and make a bunch of friends or bring your friends too! but get ready to sing to a crowd!! they have frozen drinks which i loveeee, you can add liquor or just enjoy as is! (non alcoholic) not to mention DJ Red makes sure to maintain the vibes every time and NEVER disappoints! feeling shy? she will hop on the mic with you! need a hype girl? she’s right behind or next to you (depending on where you’re standing and singing!) truly the best place EVER. i take all my friends and family when they visit and they always can’t wait to come back to go back!!

Was here for a bachelorette party. My friends and I (group of 10) put in probably 20 songs requests over the course of 2.5 hours and not ONE was played. What a waste of time for us. How were others able to sing 2-3x and we couldn’t even get on once? Basically, the red head DJ girl just used it as an opportunity to audition for American idol. Let the patrons sing, you’re working there. She literally stopped a song midway to rewind it and start over so she could resing her verse…….what the heck?? lol

Came here towards the very end of my night and wanted to pop in and see how it was. I signed up but there was a handful of people in front of me so I didn’t know if I would get to sing. I’m sure the vibes change from day to day with the crowds but I’d say there was a variety of people there, older, college kids, bachelorette party, wedding party. It definitely gives dive bar energy and drinks are affordable which was nice. Everyone was quite friendly there and it’s a great place to just be a spectator if you don’t like to sing. lol I actually got called up to sing just before they shut down and everyone was really vibin! I’ll need to come back because I didn’t get to spend much time there but all in all it was a fun time even going solo.

DJ Red is a queen. The best karaoke in Charleston. She brings so much fun to every night. It’s insane. And (against the other review), she would never bring bad blood to her karaoke scene. She keeps everything positive and fun!

We came here on our last night in Charleston to get some drinks and do some karaoke. It was a Monday night so the bar was empty but the staff was so much fun and did karaoke with us. Drinks were reasonably priced and had some great happy hour deals. Perfect send off to our Charleston trip

Literally the most phenomenal experience I’ve ever had at a bar! DJ Red made us feel comfortable enough to sing the best(worst) songs, enjoy our time, and amazing drinks! My second time here, definitely won’t be the last!!!
