The 38 Best Restaurants in Singapore | Eater

"At Kakure, former Waku Ghin head bartender Kazuhiro Chii quietly doles out delicious swizzles with a touch of omotenashi (hospitality). The bijou bar, housed on the second story of a colonial bungalow on Scotts Road, stands out in the city’s buzzy bar scene for many reasons, chief amongst them is Chii-san’s near-perfect cocktails crafted with fresh, in-season Japanese fruits. This is a must for cocktail lovers." - Evelyn Chen

Came here with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday after seeing all the great reviews. The view and vibe? Absolutely 10/10. Super classy and lovely view - a great place if you’re after atmosphere. Food-wise, it’s not really a dinner spot—more light bites like cheese platters, which we were fine with. I had pre-arranged a birthday dessert through them (either a melon tart or Basque cheesecake, from Amis Patisserie I think). I went with the melon tart and paid $88 in advance to lock it in. It tasted great—but they didn’t give us any pastry cutlery so we had to awkwardly eat it with bar mini cheese forks. For a place charging $30–40+ per cocktail, you kind of expect the basics to be covered. Also, don’t expect overly friendly bartenders. They’re more on the cool, professional side—reminds me of the vibe at D.Bespoke. Not rude or anything, just not the warm, chatty type. All in, still a nice experience. Just know what you’re walking into, and you’ll enjoy it.

A beautifully refined bar with an exceptionally polished Japanese bartender. The cocktails are superb, and the bartender’s whiskey expertise is truly professional. The atmosphere and service were nothing short of outstanding.

Seems like an afterthought add-on to the restaurant downstairs. Staff are efficient but not very friendly. The drinks were just okay nothing spectacular. Perhaps I'm used to a more western style preparation but none of the drinks seem to contain much alcohol and they just weren't very tasty. If it weren't so expensive this might be a nice place to stop in for a quick drink before you went out for dinner. As a standalone bar it's not great.

Interesting small speakeasy on the top floor of a Japanese restaurant - hidden behind an unassuming door that requires a code to be open. There are about 12 seats at the bar and a couple of small tables. It’s a one-man show - one skilled bartender looking after everyone. The drink list includes classics, unique cocktails and rare spirits. We tried one polar bear ($28) and Moscow Mule ($28) both excellent and well balanced. The chocolate soufflé cake ($28) was very disappointing (hence why 4 stars) - it did not seem like a soufflé and was just ok in terms of taste. It was rich, so definitely enough for two people as stated on the menu, but not very good and too expensive. I’d come back for drinks and perhaps to try the savoury food options, but I recommend skipping desserts.

Lunch here was a stunner! The ingredients were fresh and generous, I had such a great time. The star dish for me was the aburi otoro. Gentled charred under the perfected heated charcoal, topped with snow sea salt. I'll definitely be back for more.
