This place has been on my list for awhile now. I'm so glad I finally got to stop by for lunch with my husband. We both ordered off the "Wegan Wednesday" menu. That's their vegan menu, but on Wednesdays it's $2 off each item, so they call it "Wegan Wednesday". Items are reasonably priced to begin with, but once you take advantage of that special you can't go wrong. With beer, our total was around $22 before tip. We both left feeling full, so the portions aren't skimpy. Their vegan menu has several options to pick from. They aren't your standard sad salad either! They've got fish sticks, burgers, grilled cheese, etc. All those foods you can't get vegan versions of at most restaurants.
I ordered the fish sticks. It's battered and fried tofu sticks done up to look like fish sticks. They were fried perfectly. The crispy coating was just like fried fish I remember eating before going vegan. The tofu had a good texture too. The only thing mildly disappointing was I don't think the tofu had been seasoned. I happen to adore plain tofu, so I happily inhaled the sticks, but I know most people prefer seasoned or marinated tofu, so they might not like them as much. My husband did not care for them. He thought the only flavor came from the coating. The fish sticks are served with a vegan mayo based dipping sauce. Not really a tartar sauce knock off, but it was a great addition to the meal.
My husband got the portobello sliders. I didn't even get a chance to try one because he ate them too fast. They were very appealing looking. Lots of toppings and the mushrooms look like they had been marinated and grilled perfectly. He must have liked them a lot because his plate was clean.
The staff was great! We got there for a late lunch, so the place was quiet. Both guys behind the bar took care of us and were super friendly. They were both excited to talk about the vegan menu. One mentioned they normally carry the Impossible Burger, but they were exploring other options since the Impossible Burger is hard to keep in stock for smaller, local restaurants. That day they were serving burgers from LightLife. Also a very tasty plant based option.
The whole place looked well cared for. High tin ceilings, dark wood, and large windows everywhere. It didn't feel dark and cramped like some sports bars do. The bathrooms were some of the cleanest bathrooms I've been in at a bar. If I was more into sports, I'd definitely stop by on game nights. TVs are at the end of every booth and they have large flat screens visible from the other tables.
I love that this bar has taken the time to go all out in plant based vegan options. It means a lot to us to be able to have multiple choices at a restaurant. It's even more exciting that they really seem to be excited about plant based food! A million thank yous from the vegan community! :)
