"An informal eatery in the Plymouth Gin Distillery (where gin was once distilled for the Navy). Brasserie menus offer a good choice of simply cooked dishes, with classic comfort food to the fore; vegetarians are well catered for." - Michelin Inspector

A real gem in the South-West! We have visited Barbican Kitchen 3-4 times now, on our visit to see family in Plymouth, from London. We always make a point to have a date night here. It is our most favourite place to eat, even amongst the Michelin-starred restaurants we have been to. We just love the cosy, unstuffy, relaxed atmosphere of this restaurant. The ingredients are always the best quality, seasonal and fresh- this is reflected on the pleasantly ever-changing menu. We love trying different plates and love the recommendations from the staff. The prices for plates are more than fair - they reflect the quality of the cooking, the ingredients and the service. We know that if this were in London, we'd likely pay more than double our bill for the same food! The variety of options are truly exciting. Portion sizes are just perfect, if not generous. There is something for everybody and every 'food-mood' you are in. My partner has thoroughly enjoyed their beef burgers and loves their grilled steak options! I have a personal affinity for the 'catch of the day' and the other fish dishes on offer. I also often find myself dreaming about my next encounter with their sticky toffee pudding... A special mention must be made for the staff that work here (won't name names for privacy reasons). Attentive, not intrusive or pressurising and incredibly welcoming. Always vigilant of when we need a top-up of water! We love how friendly, polite and genuinely informative the staff are here. They go over and beyond to make sure that you are well looked after. They are the real gems of this place along with the exquisite food; just seriously lovely people that you want to see again. Well done, Tanner Brothers! See you soon!

Top notch, called at 7:50 and had a table booked for 8:30 on a Saturday. I didn’t a catch our servers name, however the receipt said “server John, cashier Dawid”. Top notch service, very diligent, food was fantastic, always a favourite when we dine at Barbican Kitchen. Thanks everyone.

Exquisite meal here last night, which also happened to be my first visit at The Barbican Kitchen. It is on the pricier side, however the quality of the food is amazing and very well presented which makes it worth it. I’d recommend the caramelised onion and goats cheese tart and butternut squash risotto…. both were divine. The truffle and parmesan fries are also a MUST - they’re the best I’ve had! Service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself was cosy and inviting. Highly recommend if you’re looking for somewhere just that little bit more special.

A great place in a lively part of town. Offering a great selection of food, generous portions and all perfectly cooked. We had squid and parfait to start, squid was delicious and tender. We were lucky to have the Chateaubriand, there was just one available (worth calling ahead) Definitely recommend booking ahead.

Yelp
I had dinner here last week. Arrived right when the restaurant opened and was seated right away but within 40 minutes the place was packed! I ordered the fish and chips. Very large piece of fish but it was delicious. Chips were alright but nothing special. The building itself is unique and would stop back just to see it again.

Yelp
This may be the 'smaller Tanners' but it's not as much cheaper as you might imagine. But this is excellent food for the price-Bistro based and very good. Try the burgers-they're the best we've had outside the USA-and VERY filling. because covers are limited i.e. it's small-the restaurant gets busy at the obvious times -and even during the week at lunchtime as it's a great place to go for business lunches (The served-faster business lunch is a good option). Best thing is that you can pick up a bottle of Plymouth Gin from the Gin Distillery shop downstairs on the way out, or call in at the cocktail bar across the landing! Let's push on in to the afternoon then.!!!

Yelp
*Caveat* I'm writing this whilst particularly drunk and on my own. However, without prejudice, this is without doubt the best steak I've ever eaten. Ever. I'm not sure about the turquoise decor but otherwise I can easily deal with this place. Go for the sailors strength gin - being a Brummie simpleton I assumed all gins were created equal but this one is kicking my proverbial.

Yelp
This is the second restaurant for the TV chefs the Tanner Brothers in Plymouth. The food is fantastic, the service excellent and the atmosphere comfortable. I went recently for a birthday meal after it had been recommended to me by word of mouth. My sister in Law has a Gluten food allergy and the Chef came out to talk her through the menu and what he could make for her, very impressive service. There is also a very nice cocktail lounge upstairs.

Yelp
This it the cheaper restaurant from the Tanners Bros, but will still cost you a fair amount of cash, so only go here if you want a treat. The Tanners brothers have worked up a great reputation for themselves, and this place shows why. In February there was a fire in the building, but it's now fully restored. In July our friends had their wedding ceremony here (in the gin distillery section) and the venue does a great job of catering events with tasty nibbles and beautiful non alcoholic cocktails.

Yelp
All the years I've lived in Plymouth and I've never eaten here. It certainly lived up to expectations, with great food and excellent service. We arrived on a Tuesday night and were shown to the back of the restaurant, the waitress was very apologetic about showing us to what was effectively a private table... We had starters, mains and a dessert. Seafood fettuccine, pork belly and classic crew brûlée with a chocolate cookie. All were of excellent standard with the pork belly standing out as excellent. A really good meal with great company!

Yelp
Great food since it is a side project of the Tanner brothers. Staff are excellent. Book in advance to avoid disappointment! Be warned that you do have to pay for water and bread when seated. Often use local produce. Wine list is good and pairs well with the menu, if in doubt, ask! Decor of the restaurant is very good.

Yelp
This is an amazing restaurant. It has recently been restored after a fire broke out inside the kitchen. It is set in the heart of Plymouths Barbican and is part of the old gin distillery. The restaurant is on the second floor, but they do have a lift for disabled access. The staff are friendly and will greet you at the door and offer to take your coat and take you tot your table. They have a nice menu with specials of the day. The food is served quickly and is cooked to a very high standard. They also have a very good wine menu that ranges from their affordable house wines to some more budget breaking ones. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Possibly one of the best places to eat in Plymouth. Yes the menu is a bit pricy, but that just means its so much more of a treat when we do go! the menu has a good mix of food from simple burgers, to some lovely fish dishes using locally sourced ingredients. The staff are very friendly and helpful It can get a little warm when its busy, and the loos are in the disterllry section and not that nice.

Yelp
This is a very nice resturant. I have a few complaints but it's nothing much - 1st, the tables are very close together which doesn't give customers much privacy - 2nd, they bring olives and bread to your table without asking and charge you for them which doesn't happen at most other resturants! Other than that the food is very nice, the waiters and waitresses are very welcoming and very useful. The food is delicious. 4 star!

Qype User (Janner…)

Yelp
Second local restaurant belonging to the tanner bros. Expensive. Complicated menu. Very pleased with itself. Staff can be very distant and patronising. Bouncers and a waitress with a clipboard act as discouraging sentries at the door at street level. Food not so good that its not better to look at the several other good options close by.
