After hearing so much about this restaurant, we finally made the drive. Although I had repeatedly heard about their chicken fried steak, I opted for the 2 pork chop dinner. They were very nice looking slices of boneless pork chops, about an inch thick. Unfortunately, I found them dry and lacking flavor. I chose fries and a salad for my two sides, both were good, as was the roll that came with the order. After only eating 1 pork chop, I decided to try a pie of their homemade cherry pie, a la mode of course, it fell short of my high expectations. The service was great, the atmosphere was great, definitely worth a try, there are plenty of options on the menu. I have to give them another try, probably order the chicken fried steak next time. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous.

If you're looking for a delightful dining experience in Burrton, Kansas, look no further than this charming Barn restaurant! Known for its delicious pies and friendly staff, this place truly embodies the essence of small-town dining. The menu is refreshingly simple, featuring a variety of options from burgers to salads, but the star of the show is undoubtedly the chicken fried steak. I had the pleasure of trying the chicken fried steak dinner, and it did not disappoint. The steak was perfectly cooked, boasting a golden brown, crunchy, flaky crust that was seasoned just right. Each bite was tender and moist, generously smothered in rich country gravy. It's a rare treat to find a restaurant that can master such a classic dish. The ambiance was equally enjoyable, with a spacious dining room adorned in charming country farm decor. Our lovely waitress added to the overall experience with her warm hospitality. I can't wait to return and indulge in more of their wonderful offerings, especially those famous pies! This barn restaurant is a hidden gem that deserves a visit.

Place was dead on a Friday morning so I popped in for a quick breakfast. I ordered an omelette with mushrooms and green peppers. The mushrooms were super undercooked and rubbery. The salsa was mid. I did appreciate the size of the omelette though, and the cheese on it was good. Hashbrowns were good. Coffee was decent. Service was friendly but not outstanding. Prices are reasonable. They also play nothing but Christian music in here. And not even good Christian music, but the really cringe kind. I have absolutely no problem with it personally, it's not about my own beliefs, but when you're a business open to the public, it's just completely unwelcoming and unkind to anybody who walks in that door with a different faith. So, downgrade on my rating because of that too. Be kinder, do better.

Finally got to experience The Barn today... definitely worth the short drive from Wichita! The atmosphere has the perfectly unique rustic country vibe we enjoy. The soda pop was crisp and refreshing. We ordered the Farmburger (perfectly cooked) with corn nuggets, fried pickles (pleasantly spicy), buffalo boneless wings (yay for more meat than breading) and fries, and slop bucket nachos (really good salsa, lots of topping and huge portion). Everything was satisfyingly delicious!! We will return!

Google
First time trying out The Barn and I’m so glad we finally did! We drove in from Wichita on a Saturday night without a reservation. Our wait for two was 30-40 minutes and honestly, we didn’t feel like it was that long. We waited at the bar. Bartenders were friendly! Finally got sat. We started out with chips, salsa and queso. The salsa was SO fresh and the queso was so delicious. We then ordered the chicken fried steak and the sirloin for entrees. My steak was a little overcooked, as I did request medium rare but it was still pretty good for being well. Chicken fried steak was so yummy! We were full but just had to top off the evening with a slice of the chocolate peanut butter cake and boy, am I glad we did! Soooo delicious! Our server was fantastic and so sweet! We will definitely add The Barn on our rotating list of restaurants to dine at. Highly recommend.

Google
The Barn in Burrton is a true gem, especially for being basically in the middle of nowhere. There are plenty of food options with reasonable prices all wrapped up in a very creative and visually pleasing atmosphere. After I returned home, a friend said that she particularly likes an item on the dessert menu. "Wait...what dessert menu?" Sorry I missed out on that part, but maybe next time.

Google
Decided to make the drive to Burrton ks to eat at the" Barn" the food was good. However, I didn't see anyone eating prime rib, which i heard they had, but didn't witttnes. The chicken fry was excellent. Mac n cheese was good. The rolls were so so..... overall experience was this place makes good food. The wait staff we had could have been a little better, but hey! It ended with dessert. That made for a great evening of dining with the fam!

Google
I had the pork fritter sandwich which was great! Thick cut with crispy flavorful breading. My wife had chicken fried steak which was really good. The steak was tender and the breading was tasty.

Yelp
Amazing food, wait staff was very attentive and with 15 people we never had to ask for anything, drinks were filled quickly and all our food came out correct. You will not find a better place to eat for the money for sure. Dobt forget to take in all the decor it is so fun to look at all the things they have. Wait time is a little longer on Friday and Saturday night but totally worth it.

Maryanne F.

Yelp
We wanted to try this restaurant after reading an article about it, which really hyped it up. We went on a Saturday night at about 6 PM and only waited about 10 minutes for a table. The bar service was good and the beer was cold. Table service was good not great. I had the chicken fried chicken, which was very good. The homemade rolls were very dry. I chose string beans and hush puppies for my sides. The hush puppies were good, but overcooked. The string beans were served with pieces of nearly raw bacon which added flavor, but was kind of a turn off for me. My husband had the ribeye which was cooked as he requested, but he said it was mediocre at best. He had corn and onion rings as his sides. He said the corn had no flavor. The onion rings were just OK. We did not have dessert. The pricing is reasonable. The ambience is authentic to its theme, which was fun. Perhaps the article we read prior to going set false expectations. I don't think we'll be returning.

Richard G.

Yelp
Everything they offer is fantastic, I wish I could rate higher than 5 stars. I just read that it's for sale. It is my hope that under new ownership, nothing changes.

Buffi B.

Yelp
The food at The Barn is amazing! Great steaks, shrimp, salads, apps, it's all good! Wait staff is super friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is rustic. They have a grain bin for their bar. Great food great prices. Call ahead for seating or be prepared to have a long wait.

Yelp
Waited an hour and a half for food. Didn't complain, only to hear next table that had same crappy service get comped. NEVER going back.

Yelp
We had heard so much about this place, that once we finally had a day off, we decided it was time to try it out! We loved that they have call ahead seating especially with the 40 minute drive! We were sat quickly once the hostess realized we were there for dine in per the call ahead protocol and not there for a pick up order. It seemed the hostess and another woman were upset with us for the confusion. We are still confused on how they got confused, but it is what it is. We were waited on quickly, so that was nice. My husbands chicken fried chicken was warm, and cooked to perfection. So that was good! My food was lukewarm at best. I had a chicken fried steak that I was unable to chew. I wish I would have taken pictures, but I didn't. I'm actually surprised that the wait staff allowed the chicken fried steak out of the kitchen, it was so obviously burnt under the breading (which was falling off). My sides, were cold. My gravy which I requested be served on the side was also cold. The bread was as tough as communion bread. I was honestly too afraid to say anything considering our awkward first impression at the hostess stand to I paid $20 for dinner and a drink that I couldn't eat. But, that's on me, for not mentioning my issue to anyone. We could have used refills on our drinks, but didn't get any. On the drive home I thought, it was a holiday, they are short staffed (that's what the sign said anyway), maybe it was an off day. Then I thought regardless of what may have been going on, if you don't know your deficits you won't know how you can improve. So, while we enjoyed the drive, the atmosphere, the establishment, the clean bathrooms, the call ahead seating option, and the vibe.... we look forward to a better meal, and a friendlier interaction with the staff, next time. We will try the barn again some day, and if the food and service has improved I'll re-review.

Yelp
Best chicken fried steak in Kansas. Their catfish basket is also fantastic. We always have great service and amazing food!!

Austin R.

Yelp
The food was good. The service was great. The wait was long, but that just shows the demand for good food is high.

Josie P.

Yelp
If you plan on spending an hour and a half with no food and no drinks then this is the perfect place for you. Service and management did nothing to make it better and we had to listen to the table next to us get their meal comped while we paid full price. NEVER WILL BE BACK.

Chris W.

Yelp
Service was excellent, but the chicken fried steak was very tough. I'll never have the steak again

Yelp
We have been here several times! Last time for a Class Reunion dinner (around 35 people), but today, just 8 folks. So, when I say they do a consistently great job, it's from many visits! The atmosphere is (logically) like being in a barn, but with a grain silo inside (not outside)... see pictures! Very clean and maintained, rustic appearance. We got Amy as our waitperson. Super friendly and helpful. So far, all their staff has always been above average. Price is a little on the higher end, but compared against quality, taste and portion size, reasonable. The Chicken Fried Steak is outstanding with excellent gravy (everyone ordered it), Homemade rolls with Honey Butter (if you want). The Fried Okra, Sweet Potato Fries, Onion-rings and the Mashed Potatoes are excellent! Strongly recommend it... If you're anywhere near (Burton Kansas), it's definitely worth the drive.

Christa E.

Yelp
The service is so good, best we have had in a long time! The food is very good! The ambulance is perfect for the location and food style.

Yelp
Loved everything about this restaurant. Our server, Destiny, was delightful. You will not leave hungry!
google avatar

Dean R.

Yelp
Great food and service. It can be busier at times that are popular especially on the weekends but it's well worth the wait of 30 minutes or so.
google avatar

Ginger B.

Yelp
Awesome food. Great decor. Very friendly staff Love the chicken strips and baked potatoes

Elana S.

Yelp
The food had good flavor and good portions, but we waited an entire hour for our food from when we ordered. I felt bad for our server because he did his best with keeping our drinks refilled and being friendly.

Sally B.

Yelp
Great restaurant! Great service... super friendly. It is important, though, to call ahead, &/or put your name on the waitlist...you will still have to wait for a table, but it keeps things moving & makes your experience that much better!! Food is super tasty. The Barn is clean, well kept and delicious!

Carissa Y.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the service was great. Everyone was friendly. I got the Sirloin and it was cook just the way I like it. The mashed potatoes were also great. My boyfriend got the barn bowl and he said it was great.

Greg M.

Yelp
Good food and service. Use the call ahead on Yelp for faster seating. Menu has lots of options too.

Jordan V.

Yelp
Food was great. Waitress made sure everything we had came out the way it was supposed to. Good atmosphere

Matt W.

Yelp
Stopped in with a group from St. Louis on a hunting trip. The atmosphere is fantastic, service top notch, and food was insanely good. My brother and I consider ourselves connoisseur's of country fried steak and this one now tops the charts! Chicken fingers were equally amazing. On top of that, the staff was really friendly and fun. Will definitely be back any time we're anywhere near the area!

Lindsay W.

Yelp
Amazing food! Great environment! Wonderful service! Their steak and chicken fried steak are amazing. Also love their pork chops and slop buckets nachos.

Sara B.

Yelp
Super good food and service. They're always busy so that's a good sign! I love all their food!

Michael M.

Yelp
Willow was a great server. Cannot get over this amazing gal! We have her most times we come in and it just makes everything so much better!! The food is always great that's a given, but willow makes it better! She gets a 6/5 star review from the whole family!!!

Donny H.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. It was busy, but organized for seating and clearing tables. Service was lousy, saw the waitress one time, and waited an hour before we left, never got our food even after asking for an update. Others seated left as well. Going to be a while before we give them our business again. Very sad, used to be a good place.

Yelp
Chicken fried steak. Peanut butter pie. You can get other stuff. But you gotta get that stuff. Go on a diet some other day. You're welcome.

Yelp
Food is good. Service is good! Highly recommend any day of the week they are open! One of the better places around Hutchinson, McPherson area

Chip S.

Yelp
The food the service and the ambiance was outstanding! I got the spicy Ruben and it was a real Ruben piled with sliced pastrami and fresh marbled rye bread it was awesome. I'll be back ...this may be my new hang out.

Katy C.

Yelp
Went for breakfast on Saturday morning. We were quickly seated and allowed plenty of time to drink coffee, chat and peruse the menu. When we ordered, the food arrived quickly and was delish! Kudos to the wait staff and management. It was a great way to start our Saturday!

Martha D.

Yelp
Made a quick stop while passing through on a long day of driving. We had heard so much about this place from family and we wanted to check it out. Unfortunately we had had a heavy late lunch so had no appetite for the delicious dinner offerings (Next time!!) but did split the starter sampler. Friendly and efficient staff. Ambiance and decor -- LOVE IT!! I'm a Kansas farm girl so of course I love the decor! Looking forward to stopping again when I can try the notorious chicken fried steak.

Yelp
The wait app is SO worth it! When I tagged it there was a 20 minutes wait with 6 in front of us. We were 10 minutes out. We arrived and checked in with 3 minutes to spare. The lady said just stand right there. A waitress seated uus with no waiting! I ordered the chicken fried steak with onion rings and a salad. The waitress went to see if the Saturday special was still on ( nope) so he ordered the chicken fried steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. Mine beat his to the table even though I had a fried item! We didn't even wait 10 minutes for our dinner. The place was packed and because of the wait app, we felt like VIP line jumpers! All of our food was hot, tasty and delectable. The roll could have fed both of us and the chicken fried steak took up most of the platter! We plan to go back again with the help of the wait app!

Phil H.

Yelp
Traveling through the area and stopped to visit friends. They picked the place. Order fried pickles and salmon salad. Food was fresh and hot, came out in a reasonably amount of time. Waitress was friendly and fast.

Deavin D.

Yelp
I love love love this place was very skeptical after years of knowing they were in business. Better than anything you're gonna find within 30 miles.

Richard W.

Yelp
We went on a Friday night it was busy as are most restaurants on Friday. We didn't have to wait long for a seat we got on the waitlist before we arrived. Wait staff was friendly and helpful. I was undecided about what I wanted to eat they made a couple of recommendations. I had the CFS with white gravy green beans and double order of mashed potatoes it came with a huge dinner roll. I ordered their very popular coconut cake and a piece of carrot cake to go. I was very full by the end of the meal. Bring a jacket it was pretty cool sitting there.

Alyssa M.

Yelp
One of our favorite restaurants! Food is great. Ambiance is incredible. Service is down to earth. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My wife took me there for breakfast. I had their legendary chicken fried steak breakfast, don't waste your time and money not worth it would rather go to Stearman's, my wife had their garden Burrito with egg, No eggs in their garden and egg burrito, they didn't want to fix it. And did not even try to make it right. 45 minute drive on a Sunday morning time wasted.
google avatar

Celeste P.

Yelp
Wonderful setting, staff are pleasant, & good is yummy comfort food. Food prep time is a bit long, especially when you see others getting their food before you when they arrived 30 minutes after you.

Madison F.

Yelp
The food is INCREDIBLE. The waitstaff is super kind and they make sure you always have your drink full. The restaurant is so fun and has a very cool bar in the back making for an awesome atmosphere.
google avatar

Misty F.

Yelp
If my chicken fry would not have been so tough, everything would have been perfect. Will definitely try something else next time.
google avatar

Rene D.

Yelp
Stopped on the side of the road here to eat. It was actually pretty decent. We just missed half price apps but ordered one anyway. Had the homemade chips. The creme cheese dill pickle dip stuff was pretty tasty! Then I had a patty melt with okra and he a burger.

Melissa M.

Yelp
The barn is a fun and relaxing place to eat with family or friends. We enjoy the laid back atmosphere and rustic decor. They have great service and wonderful food. We would recommend the slop bucket nachos.

Yelp
The Barn is one of our *favorite* area restaurants. The chicken fried steak is super popular and always delicious; it's giant, so be forewarned! I went with my usual on this visit, the out-of-this-world chicken strips. You can't go wrong! If you're passing through or have guests, this is the place to take them. It's quintessential Midwest, with classic Kansas food and a great atmosphere!
