We had heard so much about this place, that once we finally had a day off, we decided it was time to try it out! We loved that they have call ahead seating especially with the 40 minute drive! We were sat quickly once the hostess realized we were there for dine in per the call ahead protocol and not there for a pick up order. It seemed the hostess and another woman were upset with us for the confusion. We are still confused on how they got confused, but it is what it is.
We were waited on quickly, so that was nice.
My husbands chicken fried chicken was warm, and cooked to perfection. So that was good!
My food was lukewarm at best. I had a chicken fried steak that I was unable to chew. I wish I would have taken pictures, but I didn't. I'm actually surprised that the wait staff allowed the chicken fried steak out of the kitchen, it was so obviously burnt under the breading (which was falling off). My sides, were cold. My gravy which I requested be served on the side was also cold. The bread was as tough as communion bread.
I was honestly too afraid to say anything considering our awkward first impression at the hostess stand to I paid $20 for dinner and a drink that I couldn't eat. But, that's on me, for not mentioning my issue to anyone.
We could have used refills on our drinks, but didn't get any.
On the drive home I thought, it was a holiday, they are short staffed (that's what the sign said anyway), maybe it was an off day. Then I thought regardless of what may have been going on, if you don't know your deficits you won't know how you can improve. So, while we enjoyed the drive, the atmosphere, the establishment, the clean bathrooms, the call ahead seating option, and the vibe.... we look forward to a better meal, and a friendlier interaction with the staff, next time.
We will try the barn again some day, and if the food and service has improved I'll re-review.
