The Barnacle - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Aside from the closed-until-further-notice Champagne Champagne (we miss you), The Barnacle is our favorite bar on Orcas. When the lights are low, all of the reclaimed wood and ambient rope makes it feel kind of like you’re in an old ship bobbing on open water—only you’re a little tipsy from fantastic cocktails instead of seasickness. Their drinks have a ton of variety, from smoked Manhattans to mojitos with freshly-muddled blueberries, mint, peach, and Mexican mole bitters. If you’re a patio pal, they have a gravel patio with extra seating. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Adorable cocktail bar! Great for a couples night out or small group. A great menu with lots of variety for everyone, and delicious unique house cocktails. Menu is seasonal so there will always be something new and interesting, but be aware that the drinks you see in pics online may no longer be on the menu! May be a wait in the winter since the interior is small. Highly recommend!

Google
Great upscale cocktail lounge. Had a “90 days of August” which was fantastic. Love the intimacy of this small bar. We were there late so had already had dinner but their cheeseboard menu looked great. Proprietor was a snappy dresser and gave a sophisticated air to the place. Highly recommend.

Google
Almost gave this place 1 star for ruining Manhattans for me. Guess I'll just have to travel 3 hours now to get my favorite cocktail.

Google
Fantastic cocktails crafted by the owner Michael. Small and quaint space but perfect for our week night visit. You can tell this bar in a staple in the community. Lots of local knowledge was shared and really helped on our decisions for the orcas island. Highly recommend a visit here for high quality cocktails

Google
Cozy and inviting with great interior decoration and generous staff. These guys really know how to welcome folks into Eastsound, made us feel so special! Started with drinks and got to chatting with the bartender about rum- ended up workshopping and naming our own cocktail!

Had a lovely experience at The Barnacle! The ambiance was cozy and inviting, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the island vibe. The drinks were great, and the overall atmosphere felt both intimate and unique. A special shoutout to the hostess—she was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Definitely worth a stop if you’re on Orcas Island!

A fun and cozy cocktail bar for rainy nights or while waiting for your dinner reservation! Has a great atmosphere and creative cocktails - I recommend the One Love.

Google
Updating this review because fairness matters. We returned and gave this small biz a chance to get it right without introducing ourselves or expecting to be treated any differently than others. So glad we did. It gave us a chance to indulge in more of their excellent cocktails as well as enjoy their freshly made trout dip. Presentation was on point and they seemed to be back on their game. We look forward to returning frequently and adding this to our list of favorite spots one can't miss when visiting this island. Sidebar: They have Weller Bourbon on the shelf. That's not exactly a standard and makes for a killer Old Fashioned if not simply enjoyed straight up. Spell of the Sensuous was another hit. It's like a pisco sour with an upscale twist. Lackluster service at best. To sit outside waiting for service for nearly 20 minutes, then to place an order for two menu items and wait nearly 30 more minutes before my husband ventured inside for service (we weren't alone in our alarmingly long wait but the place wasn't abuzz either) is a disappointment. The cocktail prices are on the high side of the scale (they're excellent, I'll give them that) and to not be met with even the most simple acknowledgement made me wonder how this place has survived in the era of covid. How can a cute little spot downtown offer such inadequate service as visitors return to regurgitate life in this town? We couldn't even get a simple glass of water we'd requested. What a disappointment.

Yelp
Great ambience and drinks. Really fun to sit at the bar and watch the bartender do her thing. Light snacks, not heavy food items, so beware. We stopped before dinner to grab drinks and hummus plate - it was perfect!

Yelp
Such a cute spot on the island fabulous way to end the night! The menu is crafted very thoughtfully with innovative spins on old school drinks. The mixologist is super sweet and very informative of how she made our cocktails. Definitely a destination spot on orcas

Chanda M.

Yelp
The food is good. The drinks are great. Staff is fabulous. A lot of fun times lotta fun things happening at this particular establishment. If you come to Orcas Island, you must check out The Barnacle!

Moni M.

Yelp
Favorite Orcas Bar! Intimate and relaxing setting, a cocktail that benefits a local nonprofit, creative cocktails with floral touches and the most amazing nautical interior. Sweet staff and delish small bites make it a great island happy hour spot. Outdoor seating in summer months and gorgeous flowers inside and out.

Katie N.

Yelp
We stopped in for a cocktail before dinner across the street. Really fun place with a funky, eclectic vibe. Our mixologist created a 'Patricia's special' made with vodka, which was beautiful and delicious as well as a wonderful Old Fashioned.

Lauren D.

Yelp
Adorable place - went here twice in three days! The first time there was great live music

Manka M. V.

Yelp
What a fabulous cocktail bar. The drinks we ordered were really yummy and the atmosphere and service were great. We did not try the food but would def try the small eats/ appetizers another time.

Yelp
Very cool unique place. My friend always raves about going here. Great cocktails and small bites. Cool place to catch up with friends, or nice date spot. The service was friendly and prompt.

Yelp
The perfect place to sip the perfect beverage. The island keeps changing and getting fancier. I appreciate this little gem is still there.

Yelp
Wow! What can I say! I consider myself a cocktail snob. A craft cocktail queen. I was sure I would find such a place on this small island but WOW, this place nails it. The atmosphere is Tres Chic Black Pearl. Everything in this place was well thought out. To the leather stools, the leather menu and check covers, the the overhead marine rope lighting, etc. Everything if softened up a bit by the wildflowers on each table. Service was amazing. Each drink meticulously hand crafted, by a bartender who clearly takes his craft seriously. Thank you Barnacle, you have given us ONE giant reason to return to Orcas! This is seriously the best place for a cocktail anywhere on the island

Shannon B.

Yelp
Can't speak to the drinks because we were never served any. Waited 30 minutes, decided to leave. We were seated outside. I went inside to get water and saw a bartender chatting it up but not really making any drinks for us or others outside. Witnessed another party (locals who arrived before us) speak to the manager because they didn't get service either. I guess they didn't need us as customers.

Yelp
Very unique beverage specialties The flavors listed as ingredients sarsaparilla, ginger etc are legit! Just snacks so if your looking for a meal other than a serious salad or top drawer charcuterie board go elsewhere first and stop off for dessert libation or night cap Inside occupancy is no joke a whopping 19 but super cute and fun

Yelp
We were glad that they were open till 11. We missed a ferry and reached quite late. So we were worried if we will get any bar open. We tried Tanya Louise - very good Mother of invention - awesome Ginger at sea - meh ( not my taste) Toasted tomato - very good It's quite expensive but liked the staff, the ambience.

Yelp
This is the best bar and bartender I've been to on Orcas Island! The drinks were so creative and made with fresh local ingredients. The bartender is truly talented. He and his sister were working and were so friendly. They made recommendations on where to eat and what to do on the island. I'm glad it was one of our first stops. I loved the drinks, the staff and the atmosphere! They should be very proud of their business.
google avatar

Kirsten F.

Yelp
I love the vibe while contemplating the flavors. Everything about how this place is put together is nautical charm. Cheerful. And the drinks so creatively crafted. The bartenders are friendly and the icing on the cake.

Yelp
The best spot in Eastsound for a cocktail, hands down. Intimate seating, 4-5 seats at the bar plus a couple larger group seating areas. Arrived Saturday after 10pm and almost every seat was full. Great for a date night nightcap although it can be a bit loud in here. The Old Nana is a beautiful take with very complex flavors that all compliment each other. Really appreciated that they are open until midnight! My husband had two rounds of these and they were divine to taste. I had the Ta Ta Tini for the cause, though the taste seemed a bit off I attribute that to the bubbles. The next one which I forget the name had lilac in it and was much more palatable! Worthy of a hangover for sure. Overall I am glad we stopped by. Service was a bit tough given the two larger (bachelorette) groups that were there. Would return if in the area.

Yelp
I remembered the Barnacle from my last visit to Orcas years ago and was happy to see that they were still open and with COVID appropriate patio options. Patio was full when I got there around 7:30 on a Wednesday but a spot opened up quickly. Cocktails were as delicious as I'd remembered. We waited some time for our food (but honestly it was not such a bad thing, as it was very pleasant to sit and chat on the patio) but when we went to pay, our bill had been reduced due to the wait which was very kind. The cheese board was very tasty! This place just has a lovely vibe.

Yelp
Super cute little spot with the most delicious creative cocktails with local ingredients!!!
google avatar

Alfonso S.

Yelp
Great place to get a drink and snacks. The snacks we had were all locally sourced. The drinks were clever. Ellie had a drink that went towards a charitable cause.

Ashley B.

Yelp
Drinks were amazing!!! Ordered a mojito which looked and tasted amazing! We really appreciated the bartender's friendly and quick service! The place was also filled with locals happy to give tips on things to do and places to eat around town.

Yelp
Wow my taste buds are remembering the food which was so divinely presented to me my stomach is growling at the thought! I absolutely love this place and the location is fantastic these islands are just glorious! The whales are really jumping at this time of year! The weather is unseasonably warm I am jumping around these islands and really enjoying myself it's so far this is one of the more superb places to eat!
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
Beautiful interior and atmosphere. I'd describe the hours as "flexible," the cocktails were more showy than flavorful, and the seating is indeed limited, especially while we all navigate COVID restrictions. But if you're able to get a seat at the Barnacle, it is a truly lovely place to enjoy a cocktail... especially in quiet Eastsound, where even the pubs can close early on a Friday or Saturday night. It was about $60 on 4 drinks.

Yelp
I. Overall: Cute little place with cozy ambience and good spot to chill. II. Disclaimer: I have not been paid or compensated to write or share this review by anyone in any way shape or form whatsoever III. Drinks and Food: This was a spot we decided to go after dinner to hang out and relax. We ordered... - A hibiscus based cocktail which was decent - A bunch of Rum-n-Cokes which used a classy old aged Rum - Carrots with Hummus which were very tasty IV. Service and Charges: There were two hostesses there at the Bar and they were courteous and kind. For all the above we spent $110 with a 20% tip

Yelp
Such a cozy bar but you can stand near the bar if there aren't any seats. They are open during the day on Fridays :) The cocktails are great! I was able to offer the menu and went back the same weekend to get it again because it was so good. The service was worth going back for as well. I do not enjoy sugary cocktails so the bartender adjusted some recipes so it would be less sweet. I ordered off the menu and got a ginger mojito. The ginger was fresh pressed. It was really refreshing. If you are in town I would highly recommend going for at least one cocktail but I am sure you will want a few. There is also some light snacks if you are looking for a small bite.

Jeremy M.

Yelp
Best bar on Orcas Island hands down! The craft cocktails are great and the ambience is casual and relaxing with a rustic styling vibe.

Natalie W.

Yelp
The place is super cute and the bartenders are really nice. The drinks however are just oddly put together.

Yelp
Fantastic drinks with the sweetest ambiance! The cocktails are stiff yet smooth and tasty!!

Yelp
Barnacle is a very popular location for craft cocktails. The bartender took his job very seriously and spent time on each drink making sure they were of the highest quality. There was an extensive cocktail list, special of the day, as well as the, "say what you like and we'll make something for you." This is definitely a trendy spot, and well laid out. The drinks are $10-$13, but we're cheaper during their happy hour. There are many beers on tap as well. This is a place women would like to go to.

Megan P.

Yelp
This was our favorite spot on Orcas Island! The service was amazing, the friendliest staff! We tried 4 different cocktails and 2 toasts, all wonderful! We went back a second night to try more and we're not disappointed. The atmosphere was so cozy, this is a must stop!
google avatar

Rhonda P.

Yelp
We stopped in after a day of exploring Orcas Island. It's a very cozy spot and I was thrilled the server asked a couple at the bar if they wouldn't mind scooting over a chair to make room for us. It's a very friendly, casual atmosphere and it's entertaining to watch as your drinks and beverages are being created. I don't think this is a place to come to if you're wanting "fast" service - it feels more like a place to hang out and enjoy your time. We'll be back!

Yelp
Good news, this bar is my new favorite! Sad news, I live 3 hours away in Seattle and can't easily come on a regular basis. Let's start with the cocktails themselves. Delicious. First I ordered the Ginger Root (ginger elixir paired with organic vodka, infusion of rhubarb, black strap molasses and herbs, plus muddle of lime and a little sparkle). Wow! Spicy and savory with a little fiz? Anyway I couldn't stop sipping, which led me to order a second cocktail... I went with the apple slice because variety is always nice. Even better! This cocktail is composed of apple pie moonshine (not exactly sure what that is but it's damn good), fresh lemon and splash of apple. I'll have another! Just kidding I did have to drive. The decor is cozy and has a clean nautical theme, which is fitting. There are about 20ish seats--a mixture of seats at the actual bar, high tables and low tables, so it is pretty tiny. It did get reasonably full on a Wednesday around 8-9 in September. Umm and the music? On point. It was a little jazzy, a little funky and a little hip-hoppy even. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the volume was just right. Everyone working there was friendly and helpful, and the prices are fitting. I can't wait to return when I visit Orcas again.

Yelp
I love coming here. The vibe is always incredibly chill and cozy. Sit at the bar or against the wall. They have many great drinks, but if you tell them something you'd like, they will make anything for you. Also, their cheese, meat etc boards are incredibly great! The detail on the presentation and flavor is lovely! Stevie is one of the best bartenders I've met...so is Evan. Great people. Delicious drinks. Come here ASAP!

Yelp
Quint little place with a kick ass bar setting. The place serves a variety of cocktails and beer, but more emphasis on cocktails for sure. They also have an offering of food despite not having a kitchen, so most of the food are premade, but still good. Really like the smoke mussels/seafood platter. Food price is a little on the higher side but the ambiance makes it all up.
google avatar

Lee K.

Yelp
This is a very cool bar with great Decor and friendly staff. It's always fun to stop in for a designer cocktail and unwind. We think their martinis are great and they will make them anywhere you want. Definitely a place you should try if you're visiting or a resident.

Yelp
This place was great. We came here on St Paddys day shortly after they opened. We found a seat at the bar and was handed menus right away. The first thing I noticed was the music it was some mellow trip hop that really set the mood. The bartender, I believe his name was christian, at least thats what some girl was calling him, started making a drink looks at me and says, " want to try something interesting" I say absolutly. Next thing I know he is cracking an egg and seperating the whites for the drink. He then puts in some green liquid that came out of a potion looking bottle. He finishes the drink by adding some more liqour shaking it for what seemed like 5 minutes spraying the glass with some other magical tincture and pours in the froth green concoction. This drink which was a variation of the nights special Irish dream was by far the most interesting drink I have ever had. This bar is small but the ambience is great. The bar tender was an artist at work who appeared ti really enjoy what he does. My wife and I will definatly be back next time we make it ti the island.

Yelp
Best ambience! The Prescription is a delicious drink. Everyone who comes to Orcas should experience this high end bar at least once.

Breck M.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Unfortunately not service trained? Cocktails were delicious, wine was sub-par (at best)... food: mediocre (read- the only source of heat is a microwave). No food is crafted, it's all assembled. It's a tapas bar, so that wasn't far from expectation I suppose. Pastrami toast was the best dish we had there, but lacked finesse/was clunky. No flatware delivered to eat our greens (despite a few promises). A bit awkward to shovel salad leaves in with your hands. Outward appearances don't meet inward expectations on delivery of goods, outside of the craft cocktails. THOSE? Amazing.

Mary Ann R.

Yelp
Creative cocktails, amazing service, beautiful patio--stellar experience in dreamy Orcas!

tim w.

Yelp
They will take your money as long as you sit down and shut up. Try not to be too BLACK or it's a problem. I've been going to this place since it first opened and never had an issue. The new bartenders seem to always find a reason to call you an asshole even after engaging with you throughout the evening. I spent almost $200 just to be insulted and assaulted at the end of the evening. Shame on you barnacle

rossnyev a.

Yelp
Pleasant and inventive cocktails in a small, cozy establishment central to Eastsound. Pleasant service from a skilled bartender -- strong recommend if you are looking for something stiff.
google avatar

Jess M.

Yelp
Ahh! The aesthetic here is dreamy!! Adorable, cozy, dimly light bar making delicious craft cocktails. Was perfect for a pre dinner drink before our reservations.
google avatar

Linda L.

Yelp
Probably the best place for cocktails on Orcas. Very nice atmosphere and I enjoy the music that they play there. It's a very small place with pretty limited indoor and outdoor seating, so I would definitely recommend a reservation. Their cheese board was enjoyable, but could have been more balanced imo. I would love to see more options for snacks to have alongside drinks. Love their shrubs! Be sure to ask about that.

Katelynne M.

Yelp
We took the ferry into Orca's island and arrived late. Every restaurant and bar were either closed or soon to be closing. We quickly drove over to the The Barnacle and asked if kitchen was still open. It appeared to be closed but host informed us she would be willing to make us anything. On top of that, the bartender and host were very personable and the food/drinks were perfect! The Barnacle made the start to our mini vacation a million times better!! Thank you!!
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
T a k e m y m o n e y .. this place is amazing. Cocktails are inspired. Food is fantastic and just so. The seating are is small, but I'd consider that at asset because it means if you get a seat you won't be crowded or have many people around you. Very relaxed and professional staff. Loved it all around. Went twice in two days. 10/10. Somewhat pricy, but worth it.
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
We stopped and got take-out on the way to our rental after a long day of driving. The wait for our order was a little bit. But holy cow it was so worth it! I ordered the mushroom tart. The side salad was delicious as well, right down to the pickled onions. The flavors were balanced perfect. When on Orcas Island again I'll be back. I have to try all the stuffs!

Heidi L.

Yelp
The barnacle captures a bit of the oddity of Orcas. Delicious cocktails in a small, funky shed with seating outside in the summer.
google avatar

Jeanette R.

Yelp
Perfect late night spot with an excellent bar staff that creates craft cocktails spot on and creative. Very friendly and welcoming, while working their asses off to get everyone accommodated in this tiny place that rocks delicious bites and beverages. Return? yes. no doubt.
google avatar

Felicia K.

Yelp
This place is so cute- it's a little bar with amazing drinks ( order the Paloma if you like grapefruit) and different charcuterie platters ( smoked one is awesome! ) , our waitress/bartender was Tiffany! Her service was excellent as well as drinks made with fresh squeezed juice ( omg to die for!!) - if your looking for a place to cool off during a hot day or just relax and unwind before dinner I recommend this spot! For us we finished hiking and wanted to grab a lite snack and drinks before more activities. 5 stars this place we will be coming back to for sure
google avatar

April H.

Yelp
Very fun drink menu. The drinks are eye catching. Cute small venu with some beautiful art around. Cool place to check out if you're looking for a drink before dinner.
