London’s Best-Value Restaurants | Where to Eat Cheap But Not Cheap Eats | Eater London

"West Green Road’s The Bash may be the best Congolese restaurant in London by virtue of being the only one, but it’s still right up there with London’s essential West and East African joints. Most of the dishes that make it worth travelling to Tottenham are off menu and have to be requested, so just ask. Pondu, for example — cassava leaf, stewed greens chock full of chlorophyll and lifted by pieces of smoked fish. Ntaba/taba is Congolese barbecue, infused with smoke and paired with a scalp-sweating hot sauce. But it’s the fish here that shines the most: a whole malangwa (pangasius) full of meaty flesh without any dryness, with aromatic ginger enlivening an onion and tomato sauce." - Jonathan Nunn

Best-Value Restaurants North London Are Cheap, but Not ‘Cheap Eats’ | Eater London

"Since the closure of Okapi down the road, it’s possible that The Bash is simultaneously the best and the only Congolese restaurant in London. If familiar with Nigerian or Ghanaian food, Congolese cuisine shares some ingredients and techniques, but it is its own proposition: here many of the more specialist dishes are off menu and have to be asked for, like pondu, cassava leaf, stewed greens chock full of chlorophyll and lifted by pieces of smoked fish. Ntaba/taba is Congolese barbecue, infused with smoke and paired with an absolutely searing hot sauce that provokes scalp sweats. But it’s the fish here that shines the most: a whole malangwa (pangasius) big enough to feed three or four people, full of meaty flesh without any dryness, ginger enlivening the onions and tomatoes it comes with." - Jonathan Nunn

I had never tried Congolese food before but I was adamant to try this new cuisine. Unfortunately I don't live in London so I never had the opportunity. So i decided to travel all the way to London to try out congolese food for the very first time. From the very first bite of cassava leaves in rich peanut butter with spices and steamed cassava wrapped in leaves it hit me, why I had never tried this before but I am glad that i did. The food was was scrumptious and the staff where very kind. I will definitely be travelling to back to The Bash to try out Congolese dishes.

The owner is a lovely and welcoming women the atmosphere makes you feel like you are at home. You feel comfortable and welcomed. Food presentation is good and the food is absolutely wonderful and full of flavour the meat are good quality and the food does take a bit of time to make to make sure the food is on point and properly prepared.

Was very excited to had found a Congolese restaurant that was open only to be met with such disappointment. Stood there for 5mins whilst staff gossiped and the only person that was actually trying to serve me (Turkish man) was ignored and looked down on by his colleagues!! Staff seemed more interested in talking amongst each other(even saw one picking food and eating) may I also add that there’s at least 8+ Staff and all were to busy talking. All this put me off I ended up walking out without even ordering!! Do better

The food as promised was freshly made and the decor and ambiance was certainly nice. The food however did take nearly an hour to make. If you are looking for meat stew which falls of the bone, this is not the place to be. However, if the flavours are lovely.

I will be back again it felt like going to an aunty house and being loved with food which was what i needed. Thank you

Superb Meal, lovely tasting food well worth the wait. We are Nigerian and came all the way from west London and would do it again. The presentation was first class and the food was immaculately seasoned. Thank you

I've been there two days ago with a friend of mine. Had some diced mutton, Cassava leaves, Cassava and plantain. It was my first time, every bite was incredibly good. I definitely recommend!!
