"Sample local ales in the open-fired bar or on the delightful terrace of this stylishly updated 18th-century country inn on the Longleat Estate, then head for one of the numerous cosy, well-appointed dining rooms. There’s a relaxed air throughout, making the cooking all the more enjoyable, whether it be haddock and chips, chargrilled steaks or whole plaice. Local producers are pushed to the fore, as are meat and game from Longleat. Make a night of it and stay over in one of the modern, country house-esque bedrooms." - Michelin Inspector

The Bath Arms, Near Frome, Wiltshire - Explore & Book

"The quaint Wiltshire village of Horningsham forms part of the leafy Longleat Estate, with patchwork hills and forests all around, a small green with a telephone box, a 1500s church, and this handsome pub at the heart. The Bath Arms has been here since the 17th Century, and it's chocka with olde worlde charm. Enter through a small, flagged hall to find a warren of snugs and lamp-lit salons with crinkly leather sofas, mis-matched chairs, chunky wooden tables and grandfather clocks. Dogs doze by the fire, guests chat over a pint of local ale or an elegant meal, and on sunny days, everyone spills out onto the terrace and flower-filled gardens. Staff are friendly, and service is spot on - this pub is part of the excellent Beckford Group (The Beckford Arms, The Lord Poulett Arms, The Talbot Inn), so you'd expect nothing less. Up a maze of carpeted stairs are 9 super-comfy bedrooms; a further 7 sit in a separate Stable Block. Expect huge beds with duck down duvets, organic Bramley bath products, and a locally sourced breakfast to set you up for the day. Then head out to Longleat house and its attractive gardens, or the Safari Park, or the lovely market town of Frome, or the artsy enclave of Bruton. Return for a relaxing spa treatment at the cabin in the garden, then hit the pub for drinks and dinner. This is a lovely area for a little escape to classic British countryside. Highs The food is seriously good: a mix of pub classics and exquisite fine-dining dishes We loved the fact that the bar is full of locals as well as visitors, and the atmosphere is convivial and laid-back The close proximity to Longleat's mansion, gardens, railway and safari park Staff are attentive and good-humoured Great for all; couples, friends, families and dogs are all made very welcome in both the pub and the rooms Lows It's an old building with thin walls, so be prepared for some worn furnishings and a bit of noise drifting up to rooms above the pub Though full of character, the attic rooms have low ceilings, and their bathrooms have baths rather than showers because you can't stand up in them! You can't actually walk to Longleat house from here as it's up a private road, but it's only a short drive away Be sure not to confuse this for the Bath Arms at Crockerton, also on the Longleat Estate!" - Lucy Richardson

Staff really genuinely friendly and helpful - it’s nice when they all say hello in the morning when you see them. Breakfast was fabulous. Room was ok, I specifically asked for a bath and they kindly ensured I had one. The top floor loft rooms do get a little warm and they only have tiny windows to help regulate. Large room, but a desk would have been helpful as I had some work to do. Fresh milk delivered in morning for tea/coffee was very welcome. Pub/restaurant was bustling and had a nice vibe. Service was a little slow when busy, but know they were training up new staff. Roast duck leg was tasty and good portion size. Good area for a walk - you can get a sneaky view of Longleat house if you go up the restricted road (if you take your bike you’re allowed to cycle all the way as National Cycle Network). Parking is mostly on road around the small green, and it can get busy. I’d stay again.

We've stayed at the Bath Arms on numerous occasions. The staff are always friendly, helpful & welcoming. The rooms are luxurious & have everything you could need. Lovely touch of fresh milk delivered to your room in the morning for your tea/coffee. You'll get a good nights sleep as the bed is super comfy and it's really quiet. Food is excellent for both evening meal and the breakfast. We love it here and wouldn't stay anywhere else when we visit Longleat

Fabulous building… Wonderful village… Overall, a great pub, but we did feel it needed a good clean to be honest. Bar area looks and feels filthy dirty… and not in a good honest country pub way.||I think it was the bar manager was there when we walked in… He just carried on talking to some bloke sitting at the bar, and made absolutely no eye contact whatsoever… We were left waiting there for about three minutes with not a single, “hello I’ll be with you shortly.“ I realise he was busy doing something else but I was trained at top hotels in New York and London and you must always acknowledge new customers who walk-in. When he eventually did acknowledge me, he simply said, “are you okay?” Errr… yes. But I need a drink not a doctor, was what I wanted to reply! ||The correct greeting would have been, “Hello Madam, sorry to keep you waiting, what can I get you?”||Music was really loud and generally that trendy “acoustic version of an old hit” stuff… wherever we sat we couldn’t get away from it. ||Food was great… Branded greaseprof paper was a nice touch, we had bar snacks, then dinner later on there and both were excellent and came out very quickly.||Overall, a nice place, but it just feels like it’s run by kids and they are running it for themselves and not the customers…, Kind of like a place for them to hang out but if customers come in that’s a bonus.||All a bit too London trendy for us, so we are going back to the Welsh border for our breaks which has a lot less people from Shoreditch.

I had a wonderful experience at the Bath Arms Inn, I went on a Thursday lunch time with a group of friends. Staff were welcoming and very friendly. I’m gluten free and dairy free, I find many places struggle to accommodate this. However the Bath Arms were amazing. I had the fish & chips which was outstanding, another guest in our party was also celiac and vegetarian, our waitress was very helpful and accommodating in annotating the menu to show and explain what she could have and what other guests had enjoyed, she had the cabbage with a side of truffle fries. Will definitely be visiting again soon as it is a beautiful location and nothing seems to much for the wonderful team there.

This was our first time at the Bath Arms and will definitely be back! Where to start... We only had time for a 1 night stay but wish it had been longer. Our room was beautifully simple with the comfiest bed. Katie, Brianna and their team couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. And the food was amazing, both dinner and breakfast. I am trying to keep this short, which is hard! A fabulous, quiet and peaceful setting with loads of character and delicious food. Thank you.

We returned for a one Saturday night having stayed previously in 2019. The hotel/pub is clearly doing well so full credit to the team. The food for both dinner and breakfast was delicious being sourced from the local area as much as possible. Service was charming and genuine. I did think it could have been quicker but I know the hotel was very busy. Since we last stayed the capacity has increased and it felt that every space has been utilised which in our example a little like being in a corridor when eating. We had a spacious, comfortable room that I think in the near future it might need a little TLC.

What a lovely place! The staff are charming, helpful and efficient and the food is very good indeed. It is very well situated for Longleat, Stourhead, Frome and Bath, and the local countryside is beautiful. The room we were in was one of the small ones, but it was well equipped, and the shower was excellent - which isn't always a given in 18th century buildings. The bar area, snug and dining room are cosy and welcoming. We'll certainly be back.

We went for an evening meal. I had the Ploughman's and my wife had the Pork belly. Phenomenal choices and very generous portion sizes, blooming loads of food!. We tried the Truffle chips for the first time and they were first class. Great table service and a roaring fire adds to the splendid food, thanks to all the team. One thing we found. We won't leave it so long next time.
