"Sample local ales in the open-fired bar or on the delightful terrace of this stylishly updated 18th-century country inn on the Longleat Estate, then head for one of the numerous cosy, well-appointed dining rooms. There’s a relaxed air throughout, making the cooking all the more enjoyable, whether it be haddock and chips, chargrilled steaks or whole plaice. Local producers are pushed to the fore, as are meat and game from Longleat. Make a night of it and stay over in one of the modern, country house-esque bedrooms." - Michelin Inspector

The Bath Arms, Near Frome, Wiltshire - Explore & Book

"The quaint Wiltshire village of Horningsham forms part of the leafy Longleat Estate, with patchwork hills and forests all around, a small green with a telephone box, a 1500s church, and this handsome pub at the heart. The Bath Arms has been here since the 17th Century, and it's chocka with olde worlde charm. Enter through a small, flagged hall to find a warren of snugs and lamp-lit salons with crinkly leather sofas, mis-matched chairs, chunky wooden tables and grandfather clocks. Dogs doze by the fire, guests chat over a pint of local ale or an elegant meal, and on sunny days, everyone spills out onto the terrace and flower-filled gardens. Staff are friendly, and service is spot on - this pub is part of the excellent Beckford Group (The Beckford Arms, The Lord Poulett Arms, The Talbot Inn), so you'd expect nothing less. Up a maze of carpeted stairs are 9 super-comfy bedrooms; a further 7 sit in a separate Stable Block. Expect huge beds with duck down duvets, organic Bramley bath products, and a locally sourced breakfast to set you up for the day. Then head out to Longleat house and its attractive gardens, or the Safari Park, or the lovely market town of Frome, or the artsy enclave of Bruton. Return for a relaxing spa treatment at the cabin in the garden, then hit the pub for drinks and dinner. This is a lovely area for a little escape to classic British countryside. Highs The food is seriously good: a mix of pub classics and exquisite fine-dining dishes We loved the fact that the bar is full of locals as well as visitors, and the atmosphere is convivial and laid-back The close proximity to Longleat's mansion, gardens, railway and safari park Staff are attentive and good-humoured Great for all; couples, friends, families and dogs are all made very welcome in both the pub and the rooms Lows It's an old building with thin walls, so be prepared for some worn furnishings and a bit of noise drifting up to rooms above the pub Though full of character, the attic rooms have low ceilings, and their bathrooms have baths rather than showers because you can't stand up in them! You can't actually walk to Longleat house from here as it's up a private road, but it's only a short drive away Be sure not to confuse this for the Bath Arms at Crockerton, also on the Longleat Estate!" - Lucy Richardson

We’ve just got back from a lovely 2 night stay at the Bath Arms at Longleat. What an amazing place. The decor and garden areas were lovely and the staff who are mainly young people were absolutely fantastic. A big thanks to Caitlin who run the restaurant and lovely Rory who served us dinner. Everyone is so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We ate there both nights and the food was really good made more enjoyable in the outside dining area. The 2 nights we we stayed happened to be incredibly hot but we slept so well as the rooms are lovely and cool thanks to the old stone walls and having the windows open as you could hear a pin drop at night. The bed was very comfy as well and there are great little touches like the radio and fresh milk left outside your bedroom door at 7am. The shower was great and the icing on the cake was the fabulous Bramley toiletries provided. We were visiting Longleat which was literally an 5 minute drive away and the beautiful view from our window was over the Longleat estate. Overall a really wonderful stay, I highly recommend.

We had a great Sunday lunch here. Roast beef was delicious and cooked just right. Vegetarian wellington was delicious and nice to have something different to what you normally get for a vegetarian offering. It is a lovely old country pub. Service was decent.

We have just had a 2 night stay at The Bath Arms because we were visiting Longleat. Our stay was great and the food and service was brilliant. We just wanted to say a special thank you to James who was in charge of the bar for going out of his way to help us get into the Park by dropping us off as we had no transport he went out of his way to help. So many thanks and a great stay.

We stayed the night and ate dinner here. Fabulous location and wonderful decor, lots of quirky features and things to look at. The room was very comfortable and had good extras like local biscuits and quality tea and coffee. The staff were very welcoming and offered a great service in sll areas. Dinner was delicious, we ate in the garden which was beautiful. We are recommending the Bath Arms to all our friends and family!

The Bath Arms is a really special place I have just come back from a 2 night stay with friends. The staff are so friendly attentive and welcoming. The bedrooms are lovely with really comfy beds. The food was delicious we had dinner there both nights and great well cooked breakfast. Although in a quiet hamlet on the edge of longleat the pub was busy with dinners therefore had a lovely buzzy atmosphere. Will definitely be back

Welcoming staff. Lovely setting on a perfect summer evening. An important rare family get together. I chose the Bath Arms having not visited for ages despite living locally as it always was a bit hot and miss. A miss this evening. Overcooked fish and chips and burger. Even the condiments were dried up. Someone in the kitchen cannot cook.or had the food been reheated? Endless interruptions to ask us about the food so perhaps it was obvious it was awlful and then ages to take a dessert order. Shame I wish I had complained but who wants to cause upset to fellow diners? We just wont go back and wont recommend. Hospitality in this country is just not good enough

Can't comment on the rooms because we just went for a meal but the food is gorgeous and reasonably priced for the quality. Pigeon breast was the choice of our party for starters, with the mains being guinea fowl and sea bream. Service was very friendly, a little slow at times but they were busy so it's to be expected. Staff made a fuss of our dogs and brought them little treats and water. We will return when we are down that way again and would thoroughly recommend it.
