Experience breezy day drinking and pub bites on this spacious Vietnam-era warship docked at West Harlem Piers, where city views steal the show.
"Aircraft carriers are very large. While that’s both obvious and seemingly irrelevant, it’s worth mentioning here because it explains how this outdoor bar at the West Harlem Piers has 4,000 square feet of outdoor space spread across multiple decks. With views of the west side of Manhattan, Jersey, and the Hudson River up to the GW Bridge, it’s a great spot to day drink well into the evening. But make sure to try some bar food while you’re here, especially the peppery, charred $14 cheeseburger, and some crinkle-cut fries." - the curious uptowner, sonal shah
"A former navy vessel docked at the West Harlem Piers near 125th Street, The Baylander is a supremely pleasant place to catch a breeze and drink a margarita. Even on weekends it doesn’t seem to get too busy, and there’s plenty of room for big groups across the multiple decks. Also, the view isn’t bad. You can see New Jersey and the George Washington Bridge, and if you look toward land, you can take in a few billboards for places like Columbia Medical School and Manhattan Mini Storage. Have a summer birthday here, and eat a burger." - bryan kim
"OK this is slightly north of the UWS but it’s noteworthy enough to mention to anyone in the neighborhood. This new restaurant on an aircraft carrier near the West Harlem Piers is run by the same team behind the UWS neighborhood bar, Prohibition. And since it’s an aircraft carrier, you can drink cocktails on its massive top deck while eating lobster rolls and wondering when the engineers working on the simulation you call your life will fix all of the glitches. You can bring your dog or your bike on-board, and make a reservation ahead of time on their website here." - hannah albertine
