The Beach House - Review - Long Beach Island - Jersey Shore - The Infatuation

"If you need a respite from the squeals of children fueled by cotton candy, look no further than The Beach House. Just a few minutes from Fantasy Island, the charming Beach Haven restaurant has an expansive menu with all the Italian-meets-seafood hits. The linguine in a garlicky clam sauce and creamy penne a la vodka with scallops and shrimp are both standouts, as are the barbecue ribs (we’re just as confused as you are, but they’re delicious nonetheless). Get a table on the front porch to enjoy the breezes and people watching, with not a skeeball machine in sight." - Alison B. Kessler

Food was good! Atmosphere was great. Got the crab cocktail and zucchini planks apps. They rocked. For dinner had the tuna and prime rib. Loved sitting outside! Cons- Side of broccoli tasted like it was frozen and blue cheese dressing for salad was very thick - other than that everything was good! Staff very friendly and attentive. BYOB! Will definitely be back.

Went with a group of friends, we had never gone there before. A nice place, the employees were polite, professional and friendly. The food was excellent, everyone commented on how good their meal were. I would definitely recommend giving The Beach House Restaurant a try.

Google
This place was excellent! The food was great and the waitress was friendly and attentive. Its a great place for a date night or a family dinner. Relaxed coastal vibes. We enjoyed the vegan pasta dish, scallops, salad, zucchini appetizer. We cant wait to go back!

Google
The buffalo calamari is one of the best calamari I’ve ever had. I love how thin & lightly fried they are! The chicken was a tad dry but the mashed potatoes were 10/10. The salmon was a 10/0 as well. Shrimp scampi was not made the traditional way & I believe the broccoli was frozen, but it was delicious nonetheless. Definitely a great spot in LBI.

Google
The food was fairly good. It was a bit overpriced for the quality. I ordered the swordfish special as my main dish. The swordfish was cooked well, but the rice pilaf was dry. We also got the calamari special as an appetizer. That was very good. The bread that the serve was also a bit dry. The service was very slow. Again, I think this would be acceptable if it weren't for the fact the food was so expensive.

I have dined here before outside so this was my first inside experience. Both times I had great service and a delicious meal. They have a really good amount of dishes that can be done gluten-free which is very much appreciated. Overall a great menu!

Google
All went wll and i cant say i have a complaint, but I do have a complaint. We ate outsode and this was our first time here and we were the first guest to tje restaurant. We come to LBI every year. While everything went smoothly, for the prices, service should've been better. No bottle presentation or first pour. Wine is pre opened and food was just alright. Staff is friendly and gets the job done but doesnt make a relationship with the guest. We are from northern NJ and I work in a high end restaurant in Hoboken. I guess I had too much expectations. We eat very well when we go out and with the prices I thought we'd be in a familiar with the atmosphere and be treated as a guest. I have had a better experience where expectations are met and over all even better food at Tommy's Tap and Tavern at half the price. I again, am not upset at any thing because it was all ok. It just was mediocre food and the price didnt match.

Google
Atmosphere is phenomenal second time I’ve been there, sat outside even on a hot day at 6:30 early evening. Breeze was beautiful.

Yelp
Good - divine! bacon wrapped scallops were perfection. Salmon was delicious. Zucchini app was amazing. There were NO misses. Service - quick, attentive, and kind. Ambiance - cute and cozy inside, clean, well decorated. Can't wait to return to try more of the menu.

Yelp
The beach house is a very nice restaurant in LBI. We have come a few times to eat here for dinner for the past few years. Our waitresses have always been very attentive and kind. The food comes out relatively quick, you get bread & butter and family style salad to eat while you wait. I do love their effort to include vegan entrees, and this is hard to come by! I always get the vegan Pat's pasta with beyond sausage - broccoli, sun dried tomatoes, garlic and oil, you really can't go wrong. It's always very good and they give you a good portion. My only "gripe" is that it's pricey. BUT you are in a pricey area! So that is kind of to be expected. Overall I'd say beach house is a solid option amongst many in the southern end of the island.

Yelp
We were walk-ins at 5:30 and the only option was outside porch seating, which wasn't so bad. Service was so great, shoutout to Sophia who seemed to know exactly when we needed her. Food was delicious and perfectly portioned. Market price was to be expected but I'm on vacation and I splurge a little for good food, and this was really good food.

Yelp
I had dinner here while on vacation, and it was an good experience. The restaurant was busy, so I was relieved we had made reservations in advance. For starters, I enjoyed the Burrata Panzanella special. The dish was very tasty, with the cucumbers adding a nice crunch and the balsamic vinegar perfectly complementing the peaches. Although it was a bit heavy on the balsamic, I enjoyed it overall. Next, I had the crab cake a la carte with a side of fries. The crab cake was delicious, and the bisque sauce that accompanied it was a standout . The fries were also excellent. However, the portion size was quite small for the price. One tip: the inside of the restaurant can get very chilly, so it's wise to bring a light jacket. Unfortunately, I didn't have one and felt quite cold throughout my meal. Despite this, the service was commendable.

Yelp
In my 58 years on this earth, I've never been charged a cancellation fee by a restaurant, let alone $80. Things happen and I know it's an inconvenience, but $80? Sad. Thankfully there are plenty of restaurants on the island to choose from.

Yelp
Food was very good. Service was very good, but it is pricey. $72.00 for lobster tails!

Yelp
Went to Beach House last nite (Saturday) and had delicious dinner -- pow pow Calamari was terrific, salad was excellent- blackened tuna cooked just right (rare) and halibut were both great entries... waitress was very friendly and professional & efficient. Thanks Terry for a great meal!

Yelp
The food was wonderful and the service was great! Highly recommend . Celebrated my daughter's birthday and we all had a fantastic time.

Yelp
I want to start by saying the food and service by the waitstaff was wonderful! I got the chowder as well as the pistachio scallops and everything was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. My waitress was also so lovely and really made the experience. On the other hand we started off very bumpy with a very rude hostess. Prior to arriving at The Beach House I looked online to see there were reservations available all night long. Because I didn't know how long getting there and parking would take I decided not to make a res and just head over to grab dinner. I showed up and I said I did not have a reservation but was looking for a table for one for dinner (I am here on a work trip). The hostess was immediately rude and standoffish - she proceeded to rudely say the earliest she could possibly take one person would be 8pm (it was currently 6:30pm). I mentioned seeing so many reservation spots available online but accepted as they might have been taken in the time it took me to get there (I also was a hostess for many years so know things can quickly change in schedules). On my way to my car I looked online again and saw that in fact all reservations were still available. I decided to go back and inquire because I was hungry and honestly wanted to try the restaurant (also being 7 months pregnant and having traveled all day, I really didn't want to get back in the car and search for another place). She again rudely told me there wasn't availability for me. So I asked if someone were to book a reservation online and show up what would happen as it says they would have a reservations and she just replied with "I don't know". Finally another hostess came over and upon the other hostess leaving the booth she helped me make a reservation for 7:30 which I gladly said I would just wait for that one. Shortly into waiting for my table another women walked up to the hostess stand and did not have a reservation but asked for a table for 2. The 'not so nice hostess' was beyond accommodating to her and told her she could also be seated by 7:30pm with no problems. Which very much rubbed me the wrong way and made me feel extremely unwelcome here since she has been so rude to me over a table for 1. At 7:05pm the sweet hostess came over and said my table was ready and took me to a perfect little spot on the deck. There were multiple other tables available on the deck at this time. The couple seated behind me also left probably 5 min into me sitting down and no one ever took their table over so clearly they were not booked and they most definitely could accommodate one person prior to 8pm. I had a lovely meal and was done eating by 8:15pm and on my way. While my food was delicious I likely wouldn't come back due to this rude hostess as it was very off putting and made me initially feel extremely unwelcome here for no reason at all.

Yelp
The beach house is an absolute staple for LBI! The server was great seating us with a toddler no problem, and offered a booth with end for him to sit which was great. The place is a classic beach Italian set up, with dining outside and plenty of room in the dining room as well. Overall very nice environment. My go to dish is the seared scallops with wasabi honey mustard! Nice seared crust on the scallops, paired with the perfectly tangy mustard sauce with a kick in the back end from the wasabi. Their pasta entrees are delicious as well, and all sauces seem to be made to order. Overall this is a must go place upon every visit to LBI, if not the first place I'm looking to go!

Yelp
Went here with a group of 7. The service was very attentive, our server was educated on the menu and made great recommendations. We tried the pow pow calamari, zucchini planks, clams on the half, I got the seafood penne vodka. Everything was delicious and the whole group was satisfied.

Yelp
After a Long Beach day this place was a blessing. Nice and cold inside. Place is spotless super clean and the nicest wait staff . Started with bacon wrapped scallops. These was so fresh and the bacon tasted like candy. Wife ordered the Conner combo. Jumbo shrimp and chicken with peppercorn brandy and cream with penne. Was def over creamed but did have a nice taste. I ordered Pats pasta dish. Jumbo shrimp sautéed with fresh tomatoes and sun dried tomatoes garlic broccoli with pasta. It was missing the sun-dried tomatoes and kinda was boring and not really flavored. Parking can be tough have to drive around a bit to find. Prices are high but they do use good ingredients. If your down this way it's a cool spot to try out.

Yelp
So glad that I took the chance and called for a last minute table. We sat outside at sunset, which was lovely. They have a big wrap around porch with ceiling fans that comfortably accommodated even our group of 6. Food was great. I always get nervous with market prices on menus but a) their seafood portion sizes are excellent and well worth the cost b) they include that day's market prices with the daily specials. Appreciated that extra touch. I had the seafood pasta dish with just scallops, no shrimp. They're happy to modify and very accommodating of allergies. There were tons of gluten free options. Would totally go back.

Yelp
Had another excellent meal at the beach house. While prices are high. I would say food is good not great. Service is excellent and they pack the dining room at 5:01 on a weeknight!

Yelp
Wow. Wow. Wow. This was our second time here this season and just...Wow. Went with family to celebrate my birthday. Started off rocky with who appeared to be an overworked waitress and ended up being so much fun. (We are a fun group and won her over.) From appetizers to salad to entrees to dessert - everything was prepared to perfection. There was ample table space to spread out and share and hold an ice bucket to chill our BYOB beverages. The staff was over-attentive and almost got stabbed with a fork for taking a plate too early. There was no way we were leaving anything! Reservations highly encouraged if not required. There is limited outdoor dining. Inside has booths and tables. Go with lower expectations and be pleasantly surprised!

Yelp
The service and food were incredible!!!! This was the second time we've ate here in the past 2 years. We absolutely enjoyed it both times!!!

Yelp
I Love this place. We always sit on the porch, so relaxing and slow paced. Great service from Tori tonight. We both had the tuna special which includes a salad, bread and a side. Good deal.

Deb K.

Yelp
Every trip to LBI, we go to The Beach House. The food is excellent - calamari is outstanding, fish is always fresh, and excellent service. We strongly recommend if you're looking for a nice atmosphere and great food, this is the place to go!
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
The Beach House Restaurant is a family owned and run restaurant on Long Beach Island. I've never had a bad meal here. Summer of '23 didn't disappoint! We shared the fried calamari appetizer which was crispy and delicious. Family style house salads were standard and came with each entrée. The scallops were local, fresh, and cooked to perfection. The tuna dinner entrée was also perfection.
google avatar

Yelp
We have eaten here many times over many years. Food and services always excellent. The stuffed shrimp is fabulous!

Lori G.

Yelp
It was just okay. We are new to LBI and thought this place looked so cute on the outside but was disappointed by the inside. It was just odd and not beachy at all. The food was okay but I will not be running back.

Emily and George T.

Yelp
Love this cute restaurant. Excellent food prepared beautifully, nice upscale, yet casual atmosphere and great service. Super convenient to Beach Haven area.

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Food is ALWAYS delicious. Specials are always terrific. Staff very friendly, welcoming and attentive. One of my favorite BYOB restaurants on the island!

Mary Ann G.

Yelp
We had a delicious meal here. The staff is so nice and the owners. After our meal we had dessert. It was great. We had a small Mishap that the owner took care of immediately. I have had a hankering for the dessert again and just ordered it take out. The owner remembered me a gave me it for no charge. That was so nice . It wasn't needed. It was an honest mistake. I appreciate it though. Thank you. Great place to give you business to and enjoy your meal and dessert!

Craig W.

Yelp
Great service, delicious scallops, ribs, clams and flounder. But brown lettuce? Check the salad before serving it

Katy R.

Yelp
An amazing dinner... we sat on the adorable front porch and had amazing service, incredible food, and brought our own wine to keep costs down.
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
Totally recommend this quaint little BYO. It's super packed so make sure to get a reservation ahead of time. Service was top notch. The calamari was definitely the highlight of the appetizers. We should have gotten 2. Also the lobster entrees were amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place located right in the heart of LBI, reservations are a must. We were walked in on time for our reservation greeted quickly by a friendly server who had good knowledge of the menu. I had Nanny's choice which is half rack of ribs and a crab cake. The ribs were very good and the crab was amazing. We also had penne vodka that had a bit too much sauce but it was still very good. Over all very happy and will be back

Toni G.

Yelp
The Beach House has consistent food but is pricey. The service is always excellent, and they will accept reservations. Then again, all the restaurants on LBI are expensive.

Donna F.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite dishes here. Stuffed flounder. Menu had market price, 50.00, which is fine as long as they aren't increasing price and giving you 1/2 the portion. When this came to the table I felt the piece of flounder was half ( split down center )and crab meat added to the middle. Definitely NOT stuffed flounder. Looks more like a pinwheel presentation. I definitely don't mind paying more for dishes, but then there's the feeling of taken advantage of a customer. I get we had Covid and there are price increases but don't rip off a consumer! I also had to ask for a clean wine glasses as both of our glasses weren't clean! I said something to the waitress so she could add some input to the owners. But be prepared to pay more and get less.

Ron S.

Yelp
Excellent, food was terrific as was the service and the atmosphere. Looking forward to going back.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
Shrimp cocktail- overcooked and cocktail sauce was ketchup Fish-overcooked Crab cake-meh. Salad- plain, like something I make at home Service was good. I spent 50 on an entree that was embarrassing for the price. Never again.

Sandy K.

Yelp
Our favorite place for dinner! Quaint, great quality and variety of food for everyone's tastes. The service is friendly and know most by name. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Keyla S.

Yelp
They have a very nice outdoor dining area with a large tent lights and plants. The original patio area is also very quaint. The service was friendly and attentive. Now to the important part, the food. We started with the tuna and calamari. Both were delicious. The calamari was servers over the marinara sauce and was so flavorful. I ordered Corey's Combo all was tasty, but the crab cake was the clear winner. It's mostly crabmeat with very little fillet. It was delicious. Everyone enjoyed the dinner and we topped it off with the peanut butter pie, wow it was very tasty. I failed to get a photo if a few dishes as they looked delicious and people started digging in as soon as we were served. The place is also BYOB

John S.

Yelp
The Beach House was not accommodating to our large group. They split us up on 2 tables on opposite sides of the restaurant. We are an easy going group and was willing to squeeze in to a smaller table next to the big one. NOPE! Was denied! For the money we are paying to eat here was a HUGE disappointment. We went at 5:00, before they got busy. We will not be back

John Y.

Yelp
We had the seafood vodka penne which was to die for, plus some very good and perfectly grilled medium-rare sushi-grade tuna. The salad was crispy, fresh, and they allowed us to dress with vinagrette to our own level of taste. The ambiance is very nice, especially for a LBI restaurant. We also appreciated that the resaurant is BYOB which saves money, but they were instantly at the ready with wine glasses and ice buckets. Service was excellent, not rushed, but kept a nice spacing and pace. This was our first time there based on a recommendation, but we will be back for sure.
google avatar

Melanie P.

Yelp
Go to spot every time we're down the shore! Our waitress Janine was so helpful and kind and the service was great. All the food came out perfectly cooked and right on time. Nice atmosphere, BYOB, and always go for the specials! Dessert was decadent and delicious. Definitely recommend making a reservation in advance, but make sure its for the Long Beach Island NJ location and not the Long Beach NY location. Always a favorite spot!!!'

Susan M.

Yelp
Never can leave LBI without having dinner at THE BEACH HOUSE. The ambience is inviting (inside or outside dining). Our recent visit was excellent as always. Started off with soup and clams on the half shell. The salad for two was plentiful. My go-to dish is the seared scallops and they were cooked to perfection as well as the side dish of couscous. The owner is very friendly and will stop and chat. She has very pretty and interesting plantings around the restaurant. Our server Denise was efficient and friendly. Thank you all for another wonderful dining experience.
google avatar

Stephen L.

Yelp
Was always one of our favorites. I understand food prices have gone up but that was ridiculous. Actually felt ripped off and we've been going there for years. Side Caesar substitute 8.00 c'mon, really?
google avatar

Marykate F.

Yelp
I came here with my family of 6 and the inside is so cute! The waiters were so kind. As a bread lover the bread was kinda bad. But thankfully the food came 15 minutes later!! I go the salmon with fries....wow..... that was a pretty dark good salmon. And the fries were PERFECT!! Also the pink lemonade was so sweet!! Totally coming here next year!!

Jj V.

Yelp
Ugh the meal tasted like everything came off the Sysco truck. If I wanted overcooked rice pilaf made with wrinkled frozen peas and powdered chicken broth I'd eat at home. The pistachio scallops were a nightmare. The scallops themselves were fine, but instead of a dusting of ground pistachios on top there was a dumping of about 1/3 cup of whole pistachios. The texture of whole pistachios that have been broiled in citrus broth is not appealing, let me assure you. Scallops are very delicate in texture and flavor and this was as earnest an attempt to ruin good ingredients as I've ever seen. We wondered if the chef read the recipe card wrong, honestly. The ribs were well cooked but Not special and worse off , they used bottled BBq sauce on them. So, ugh. And if I hear one more wait person ask me if I'm still "working on" my meal, I'm going to scream. Or ask for a shovel so I can continue "working on" my food. I worked in the restaurant industry for 14 years--you're supposed to say, "may I take your plate?" And you're not supposed to ask that when other diners at the same table are eating. This public service announcement has been brought to you by former waiters of America :)
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Food was ok but server was not good. She made us feel like we were bothering her and always had an excuse on why she had to help somebody else first. Like we were bothering her when we asked for another soda. Also besides a tip line, there is a "kitchen tip" line. Had never seen that before and thought kitchen staff made a salary and didn't rely on tips. Not sure if I'll go back.

Tricia L.

Yelp
Agree with a previous review... very very small portions, high prices. This was a go-to for us on our week in LBI - but no more. I ordered the crab cake entree, which was delicious but small. It was $50 for two tiny crab cakes and some zucchini. Additionally, my daughters asked for a caesar salad sub instead of the garden salad - at a charge of $16 for the two upgrades. We should have been informed when ordering. Our family of five cost $250 before the tip. A little outrageous for a BYOB joint. Sadly, we will not be back to The Beach House.
google avatar

A G.

Yelp
Cute spot. Great staff. So-so food. Pricey for mediocre. There was nothing special. Also didn't like making a res 3 weeks in advance to be inside looking out at an empty spot in the atmospheric patio outside.
google avatar

Cristina P.

Yelp
Really convenient location from the house we stayed in. Super nice staff-- our party accidentally made a reservation for the Beach House in Long Beach, NY instead of the Beach House on LBI NJ-- it happens super often from open table so make sure you double check! I had a fried goat cheese salad and a chicken dish from the specials menu and both were delicious! Ambiance is very nice, staff was extremely attentive. I would definitely recommend!!
google avatar

Donna S.

Yelp
The food and service were very good as usual. I was a bit taken back by a "kitchen service tip" on our bill. I did "Google it" and gave the appropriate recommendation bc our food was prepped and presented well. I guess I didn't realize tips were not split or shared with kitchen workers when tipping a server. Hmmm?
google avatar

Shauna O.

Yelp
Amazing service, great food and atmosphere. A new place to add to the list every time we come down to the island!
google avatar

Danielle S.

Yelp
Everything we had was phenomenal. Great service, even better entrees. It is byob but they do have bottles of wine for sale too. Definitely recommend checking this spot out.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious dinner for our foursome. I would have given them 5 star except our shared appetizer ( calamari) was not crispy and a tad undercooked. But excellent service with an outstanding waitress who gave great and clear recommendations. She knew the dishes well and was very prompt. They have busboys to clear the plates- unheard of these days. Kudos Now to our entrees: my husband had the French roasted chicken which he said was flavorful and delicious, our Maryland friends had crab cakes and the stuffed flounder which were deemed great. I had the seared local scallops which were fresh, perfectly cooked and amazing. Salad was fresh and dressings we're very good. The quinoa with the scallops was terrific and the baked potatoes were large and very popular. Four out of four hits w entrees! Great for a summer beach restaurant. Prices were high er than average but we felt it was a good time.
