The Best Coffee Shops in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"The Bean Gallery is a longtime Mid-City favorite serving Turkish coffee and specialty teas, outlasting many of the shops that have come and gone over the years. It’s open early and closes late, and there’s lots of seating indoors and out to enjoy drinks and the relatively large food menu of paninis, bagel sandwiches, avocado toast, and sweets." - Eater Staff

The coffee is wonderfully strong and very flavorful. Atmosphere is everything you want from a coffee shop. The food is delicious, fresh made and very tasty. Service is always done with a genuine smile.

Google
The matcha latte is a no. Very grainy and the color was dull/grey. The iced latte and iced chai tea latte was great! Sandwiches were also

Google
Coffee is good though slightly burnt tasting. I honestly need to go back here again to try out their Turkish coffee among other things. They do have one of the most elaborate self serve stations I have ever seen in a coffee shop - instead of your typical half and half, sugar and sweet n low, they've got the works- half n half, simple syrup, honey, shakers or cocoa, cinnamon and nutmeg, in addition to your typical sugar packets. I also really love the fact that they are open until midnight almost every day of the week- incredibly convenient for night shift workers. The barista working that night was very friendly as well.

Google
The teas here are offensively horrendous. The baked goods are kinda mid. However, the sandwiches are fantastic. This is a good choice when you want a meal that is quick and light. However, if you're not a coffee fanatic, you need to take it to go so that you can grab a drink elsewhere.

Google
We randomly picked this spot because we had our pup with us and needed a dog friendly coffee shop. Thank goodness we did because not only was it delicious & affordable, they had dog treats out on the counter for the pups so she got a snack, too! The young man who took my order was friendly and asked questions to make sure he made my coffee just right which is much appreciated. Highly recommend!

Google
Nice chill atmosphere, we decided to try them since we was in town visiting and it did not disappoint 🙌

Google
This is a cozy and spacious coffee spot with art (hence the name, The Bean Gallery) in Mid City. They feature delicious, fresh coffees and a variety of cold refreshments. Light fare and dessert are also available. They recently added traditional Turkish coffee to the menu, and it tasted smooth and deep like it should. Their cookies look amazing, and the dark chocolate/white chocolate/toffee cookie did not disappoint. Hang out and study or read, sit on the porch or inside, or have a conversation with a friend as there is plenty of space between tables. Parking is also easy; always a plus in NOLA! Updates July 2022: I love that bagel and breakfast sandwiches are still served in the afternoon. The iced coffee was also really good!

Google
I come here whenever I’m in the area. Normally, everything is really good. Today, I was a little disappointed. I ordered a hot tea-no water, a cheese danish, and a ham n’ cheese quiche. I was looking forward to this quiche, but it’s burnt on the outside, the eggs are grey, and it’s literally on the inside which means it was likely frozen a little. I would have brought it back, except there was a new lady at the register. Her trainer, the lady prepping the food, had a dry attitude when I asked for my Danish. I didn’t realize that it was in the same type of container that the quiche comes in. Either way, y’all may wanna make sure that these things are fully thawed and that the oven is at a good temp.

Yelp
I've been a few times now. The coffee is fine. I enjoy the space and atmosphere. If you're vegan they have an avocado toast or bagel. I added cucumbers to mine and quite frankly everyone should be adding cucumbers to their avocado toast. I went recently and they have this delicious vegan brownie!

Yelp
I love dropping in here for an early morning or mid afternoon pick-me-up. I prefer it quiet and sparsely filled because it can get loud when there's a full crowd. I'm never let down by their tea selection. The mocha is perfectly blended flavors of coffee and chocolate, not too overwhelming. Today they had a pistachio pastry that was divine.

Yelp
New to the New Orleans area, my friend dropped me off here as he was doing errands. So far I'm crushing on this quaint hang out spot. I ordered the frozen matcha and couldn't think of another beverage that hits the spot. I look forward trying other items in the future. Wifi and street parking available.

Yelp
I appreciate having a safe and welcoming place to study in the late hours and it seems a lot of other folks do too. Service was friendly, coffee was good, and the music was nice and not too loud.

Yelp
Great spot on Carrollton Ave to grab coffee, light bites and sweets treats. On busy days it is hard to get a seat inside. Service is great and staff is friendly. Love the community board and the neighborhood vibe of the coffee shop. There's also a nice variety of books and games for visitors as well. Mixed seating is nice - sofas, rounds, high top bars as well as outside seating for those beautiful Nola days. It's on my short list of coffee shops to visit when I just want to sit & chill out, enjoy the coffee and the view.
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops in the city. I love coming here after I walk my dog. It is dog friendly and there are dog treats for our furry besties. Whether I'm having an iced coffee for my walk or an iced tea to end my day, stopping in is my favorite thing to do when in the area. It's a quiet atmosphere with people working, reading, talking low or enjoying their order. Perfect for a solo visit.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite study spot! I've been coming here for probably a year now on a daily basis. They are open until midnight and I find myself spending a minimum of 4 hours in here, sometimes ordering more than one drink. The servers are always friendly and they have a big selection of food and drinks. Get an iced oatmilk dirty chai with lavender in it... it'll change your life. Only complaint is that the tables are kind of small, so if you need a lot of room to lay out your work, try to get there early so you can get a good spot. I love the bean gallery, you guys are there anytime I need a late night study cram session.

Yelp
Great coffee, super cool venue. The service is okay, they are not overly nice but they're nice. It also stays up super late. Overall would recommend!

Amber B.

Yelp
I tries the everything salmon bagel with cream cheese NO CAPERS very delicious will get this one again they were not stingy with the lox either which is a in my book. Service was excellent friendly and fast even for the 1st timers Really nice place to chill in the am, noon, and even in the evening come on yall it's Nawlins baby we have lost of chill spots.

Yelp
This place has some of the best coffee in the city which is such a disappointment given the extreme lack of service from their baristas. If you order a frozen drink, be prepared to have the 3-4 people who ordered after you get their drink first (because they don't enjoy making the frozens so they just put them off as long as possible- maybe just don't offer them then?). OR heaven forbid their friends come in and order behind you. I've stood there morning after morning watching while my iced coffee waits on the bar just begging for someone to scoop one lowly cup of ice into it and throw on a lid. The baristas just walk by your drink and continue to help the people behind you, or take another order while leaving you waiting even longer. It's absolute insanity. I've lost count of how many times this has happened. No coffee is good enough to be treated like that first thing in the morning. Especially when you're paying $7+ per drink and then leaving a tip. What a joke!

Yelp
The Bean Gallery is a no-frills, cozy aesthetic coffee shop with a small, local vibe. It's the perfect place to cozy up and get work done or grab a quick cup of coffee to go. The food options are great and the coffee is very high quality. A real gem in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Good coffee and pastry prices. Was anticipating spending more the way inflation has been but was pleasantly surprised when being rung up for a 20oz drink and a muffin. By the way, I had the pleasure of tasting all of their muffins last year and they are phenomenal. My coworker often brings in their vegan cookies to share with us and it's a nice option for those with dietary restrictions. Lots of places to sit, work and visit both inside and out on their deck.

Yelp
Coffee is great. Chai is great. Baked goods are out of this world. I should've taken a photo of the cookies because they are crazy amazing. I got a triple chocolate cookie and it's like next level coffee shop spoiled. The service is always pretty good with quick coffee preparation and friendly cashier. The hours are great and plenty of people come here to chat or study. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

Mona H.

Yelp
Frozen matcha was amazing, very smooth. Also the barista was very friendly and welcoming!

Yelp
Takeout Order SO picked up breakfast for us this morning and it was my first time having something from The Bean Gallery. We both ended up having the bagel and lox sandwich and I got a hot latte while he got a frozen coffee. My bagel and lox sandwich came on an everything bagel and had smoked salmon, capers, cream cheese, tomatoes, and red onions and came with a side of sliced apples. The bagel was nice a crunchy and had a perfect amount of toppings without becoming sloppy. The salmon was tasty and the additions of capers and tomatoes was good. My SO said he saw a dog inside, so I look forward to going there in person with our pup for breakfast in the future.

Yelp
WTF. Finally a coffee shop in the city I now know of that is not only open late but serves coffee and sandwiches into the night. This has been one of my gripes moving to New Orleans as I missed coffee spots that were open beyond 8pm. Sometimes you need to work, work, work, work, work as RiRi would belt out. The cold brew is superb and I love how there's outdoor and indoor seating. Prices are super reasonable and if the weather permits make sure to sit outside!
google avatar

Blaire B.

Yelp
Great place to work! TBG has it all - comfortable varied seating, wi-fi, outlets, great coffee, delicious food. The vibe is friendly and welcoming, like you went to your friends house to study. The music is low, and they have a variety of seating both indoors and out. I enjoyed a latte and a bagel sandwich, also tried some of my friend's panini. It was all very tasty and made for a super enjoyable afternoon of remote work.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
The ice latte was really good. I ordered the avocado toast on an everything bagel and a ham and cheese panini. Both items were good. There is lots of room to read a book which they offer many to read from.
google avatar

Yelp
Day 4 of NOLA Coffee Crawl: Comfortable spot with ample space for reading or writing your next novel. Try the frozen coffee with the flavor of your choice...mocha is my favorite- makes the entire drink taste like a chocolate-covered espresso bean. Tasty food options too, mostly bagel and panini related. Scenic outdoor seating as well.

Torrin W.

Yelp
Walking in today to grab a bite and drink for some study time. I was listening to voicemail on my phone and was completely ignored by the guy taking orders. Multiple times looked at me directly and turned around and sipped his drink ....someone walked up minutes after me and was asked "how can I help you?". Of the 100's of time I've been to Bean Gallery and recommended it, it has taken this one blatant disrespectful moment to help me understand that this place is business is not for me anymore. I'll find somewhere else to go

Yelp
I recently visited The Bean Gallery to change my work scenery for the day. The cashier wasn't friendly or attentive. I waited a good minute or two as she was flirting with the customer before me or either talking to her boyfriend. I paid close to $4 for ONE twist doughnut that wasn't fresh. Overall, I was able to get my work done. There's indoor and outdoor seating. I was lucky to snag a seat near the wall socket.

L B.

Yelp
I was visiting NOLA and only popped in for coffee because it was close to our airbnb. The atmosphere was great. Lots of people hanging out visiting or working. Staff was welcoming and nice. Coffee was great too!

Ronnie M.

Yelp
I've been several times over the past few years and it is in a great part of town with a great atmosphere. A few year an ago I steered away because I kept getting bad coffee drinks. I gave it a chance again twice recently and both times the coffee drink was ..... almost undrinkable. There are two close by coffee shops with superior coffee, I can't recommend the drinks here but the atmosphere is hard to beat.

Yelp
First time here and will never return. The lady at the counter was super rude. I thought it was just my interaction but after my friend placed her order she agreed the lady was rude. Coffee wasn't all that either, tasted bitter.
google avatar

Cheri C.

Yelp
Ordered black coffee and pastries to go: They have a great variety of fresh pastries & two fresh brewed coffees to choose from. The service was quick and efficient- it's a great place to run in to grab something early in the morning - they open at 6:30 even on the weekends! There were a lot of seating options inside and out with quiet nooks for working or conversation. The staff was "all business" which we appreciated because we were in a bit of a hurry ourselves. There are plenty of spots in NOLA that you'll be called "honey" (which we LOVE), this isn't one of them but it's ok because what they do they do very well! Tip: If you're looking for pastries, get the almond croissant because they're excellent!

Margaret C.

Yelp
The least friendliest staff in all of New Orleans coffee shops, it's almost like a theme they're committed to, I've never once gotten a smile from any of the myriad of people working there, and there's an air of contempt for the customers, like we're bothering them. But the coffee and snacks are good if you're not looking for any nice human engagement.
google avatar

Camly T.

Yelp
I like this cozy coffee shop to do work. It seems like it was an old home before that. There is a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. I've only had the iced tea and enjoyed that. I appreciate that they give you drinks in glasses and mugs (protect the environment!) There are books and games to play too (I think). It's usually busy and there is chatter, but I found it an enjoyable place to do work. If you need silence to do work, this is probably not for you. There are enough tables with outlets and some bar seating too.

Cristopher G.

Yelp
Very chill spot right under city park. The service is great whenever I stop by, the barista Mikkel in particular is very kind and a great conversationalist. Definitely recommend this place especially for the night owls.
google avatar

Yelp
COVID-19 update: I'm updating my review bc I visited his coffee shop last week and I was very impressed! They have about 8 tables out front and inside they've removed tables so that's everything Is socially distant. They also have tape on the floor showing you which direction to walk in to minimize people walking too close. They also have a table saying where you should wait until the barista calls you. And the staff are so lovely and wearing masks! First I have to say they have upped their food options! I saw the pictures of their latest offerings and had to get the spinach and goat cheese croissant sandwich! It was delicious! And I also got their almost croissant (what can I say, I'm a creator of habit and they didn't have their chocolate chip cookie available). But the best part was their iced chai with oat milk! It really is one of the best chai's in the city! The two baristas were super nice and efficient! Plus I loved the guy's LSU mask! Woohoo Geaux Tigers! They also have two unisex bathrooms! Fyi, the closest one is smaller and the one further back is huge! My only complaint is that I wish they had outlets outside so I could plug in my laptop ‍ but overall they're pretty awesome! Happy coffee shop hopping!
google avatar

Portia W.

Yelp
Great coffee atmosphere with free WiFi so this place is open until late hours! Serving up pastries coffees and cool chill atmosphere...tip and ask for a smile from the workers they're always preoccupied, never a messed up Order!
google avatar

Ioanna K.

Yelp
Great coffee and croissants! The service and wifi are exactly what you need at a cafe, and the outdoor seating really makes this place the perfect little pick me up.
google avatar

Anagha N.

Yelp
When my friends and I were trying to find a place to do some work past three pm, we were surprisingly low on options. The Bean Gallery is one of the few spots in New Orleans that offers this necessary service! I got the chai latte. The weather has been getting colder recently, and this was the perfect drink to warm me up and keep me going. It was delicious, and next time I'll size up to the large, since the small ended up being insufficient. If I have a gripe it's this: I really want the tables to be slightly bigger. There was a noticeable competition for the bigger tables: any time someone left, other people who were forced to sit in little chairs or at the "bar" style seating would swoop in and snag the big table. Not to mention the outlet issues! I don't know how possible this is, but one or two well placed surge protected power strips may solve this for large sections of the space. Definitely will be back regardless! Good drinks, good hours, friendly service.

Chris S.

Yelp
The food is nice, but it's a shame the barista with green hair seems perpetually miserable about idk what. Being overtly blunt & condescending isn't a good look on anybody.

Veronica R.

Yelp
Unfriendly and unpleasant cashier/barista man. He seemed to not like customers at all. Based on other reviews this mediocre service seems to be what the strive for.
google avatar

Charles H.

Yelp
SUPER COZY I was on along summer run and stopped here for an iced coffee. The brew and pastry were palatable. But it was the friendliness of the staff at the crack of dawn on a Sunday that won me over. JELLY! (See pic) Not only do they have strawberry but grape too! Starbuck's no longer offers jelly as a side. CC's only has blackberry and sometimes strawberry. But The Bean Gallery overflows with Smuckers hospitality!
google avatar

Zabrina R.

Yelp
The latte I had tasted a bit burnt but I do like their late-night study options. Worth a visit if you need a spot to study!
google avatar

Kee M.

Yelp
The food was pretty good and the atmosphere was amazing. Everything was super fresh. Outside and inside sitting areas
google avatar

Marigny L.

Yelp
This has to be one of my new favorite places to get a good sandwich & some coffee! All of their sandwiches sounded so good, it was hard for me to pick which one I wanted to order! If you like cafés with quality food, definitely come to The Bean Gallery. They have such a cute set-up inside with board games and also a nice outside area--all socially distances of course. Will for sure be coming here again!
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
I have had almost universally good experiences at the Bean Gallery. They staff is always friendly and helpful, the food and coffee is excellent, and I always enjoy the people (and dogs) I meet there.
google avatar

Bill W.

Yelp
Great lox bagel and lots of coffee choices. Great place for anyone of any persuasion. Fast and delicious. Easy walk to the park for a wonderful morning.
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
I got a Carmel iced latte with soy milk. It was so good! They have plenty of seating so I enjoyed my coffee on the porch. It's a great local spot to come alone or with a friend!
google avatar

Nichelle T.

Yelp
I have been coming this place for over a decade. I'll come for studying, meeting up with friends, or just to hold a brief small networking meeting. They also put up artwork from randomly different local artist to help them sell their artwork. Plus I love their communication board with job post, local activities, help wanted ads, and business sales. This place never lets me down and is a year round gem!! P.S. they also do punch cards (digitally and hardcopy) so that you can get a free coffee after 10 punches!
google avatar

Bello X.

Yelp
Great environment to study! Coffee is always on point! And G makes the best veggie panini there is!

Alvatina P.

Yelp
It's cozy, spacious (for a corner cafe), the food is good and fast. The outdoor seating is appealing. The seats are not so comfy. The staff was all female, very pleasant, and prompt. It's on my list when I return to New Orleans!
google avatar

Teneha B.

Yelp
This is my go-to-hide-away place to get my knowledge on. I love the feel of the area & this coffee shop takes on the same vibe. The flow of people in and out is just as 'easy breezy'. Sit indoors for ac air or journey outside for a killer incognito view & natural air; either way it's all good. The food here, especially the Caprese sandwich is the bomb!!! And it's just what the doctor ordered when you're in study-mode & fear stopping for a bite to eat will break your mojo. The dirty chai is killer here. I mean, no you won't die, but it's truly one of the best I've had. They get it right each & every time. Other offerings of coffee based libations are good too, but the dirty chai hails as my favorite. Flavored teas, hot or cold. Water juices, whatever your pleasure of the non-alcoholic sort, they can accommodate you. Eco-friendly, pet friendly & baby friendly... It's just all around friendly. In the heart of mid-city, this place is a truly gem!!!!

Marley M.

Yelp
They got too many people back there, 3 or 4 baristas at a time and they get your order confused and then talk shit about you after handing you some old expired food.

Alicent H.

Yelp
you can do better. bean gallery gets away with a lot since they're such an "establishment." their food is good, but their drinks are totally mediocre. their lemonade is store bought (and you can taste it) and alternative milks are from costco (again, you can taste it). there is so much better coffee in new orleans, especially with french truck and the station both being less than a mile away. their teas taste vastly different every time, and quite a few times they have tasted like.. coffee water? not sure how to explain it. they don't have mugs either, everything is in single use cups. i must say though, bean gallery is one of my go-tos for studying. their sandwiches are great and their long hours are perfect for exam season. it is because of this that i overlook their (dare i say bad?) drinks. it all boils down to convenience. lastly-- there is one barista that is *always* extremely rude to customers. in the past year, i can think of multiple instances where she has outright fussed at people for no reason. i do not understand how she is still on staff. anyways, yeah. convenience is key at bean gallery. its not the best, but its not the worst.

Kim D.

Yelp
A customer walks in for a meeting & decides to get some hot tea. The customer walks up to the counter. The barista just stares at her. The customer stares back, waiting for a greeting. The barista looks and says "you need to order something?" As if she's annoyed. The CUSTOMER says "Well Hello How Are You?" The barista mumbles something that cannot be made out but basically "yea whatever". The customer orders, pays, leaves no tip. The barista sits the Tea on the counter & quickly walks away. No greeting, no thank you, absolutely no appreciation. This type of service didn't even deserve the order tbh.

Caitlin M.

Yelp
Called The Bean Gallery to get directions and the young lady who answered the phone was very smart elicit and condescending to me as I was lost and it was my first time checking out the shop. She acted as if I had no sense of direction or common sense. Not going to lie, it hurt my feelings. I finally found the shop on my own and walked inside with my friend to order and the young girl with the colored hair who answered the phone was the only one working and immediately has a nasty attitude. She didn't want to answer any questions we had and was very rude and degrading. Very sarcastic. Will not be returning. Awful first impression and experience. :(
